Played a demo of this game and I loved it. The soundtrack was great and tight controls. looking forward to the rest of the game. Any Metroid fan should keep an eye on this one. Glad to here its coming out this month, been waiting since Christmas when I got PS4. Hope it comes to Wii U too along with Oddworld New N Tasty.
Why is there such animosity to the "Amiibo". They are cool figurines that may have some interesting content (Smash) or costumes (Mario Kart). To me, the collectable pays for itself, but if you are upset about the "locked content" then purchase an Amiibo like any other DLC. And for the Mario Kart argument about it now being Nintendo Kart. Donkey Kong has been in it from the start. He is not a Mario character. Lets just take a deep breath.
@ULTRA-64 My understanding was the multi screen technology isn't as long lasting and reliable. Not sure if this is true but I have had trouble with my DROID phones losing their "touch".
Besides online communities, I've never heard anyone say they wouldn't buy the Wii U because of the Gamepad. Most are underwhelmed by the specs, compare them to PS4's and XboxOne's, and never look back. I understand but don't agree with this behavior.
Seems like Nintendo missed out some extra money. But they usually make decisions for long term. For how many more years do you think Skylanders will be popular? I don't feel like there will be an attachment to that IP, but more so the concept.
@4CornerGames Thanks for responding to my thought! Based on how you described the level being built randomly but in advanced, so would the garbage. The "garbage" player wouldn't be physically controlling the placement. The garbage doesn't necessarily have to be things falling but just more obstacles built in to the level. So each time Roy (player 1) clears let's say 10 consecutive obstacles, Roy's Nemesis (player 2) will have an extra obstacle (garbage) to clear. And vice versa. So it would be a contest of who can last the longest and clear the most obstacles. I look forward to checking out your game and future projects.
I will support this dev. Good luck to you. I have an interesting idea for an extra mode. A competitive multiplayer where the better Player 1 does it "dumps" garbage on the paths of Player 2 and vice versa. (Local or Online) Example: Tetris. Would this be a possibility?
The original Oddworld for PS was a high quality piece of art and gameplay. New N Tasty isn't just an Up-res. Anyone who played the original one should be able to see that clear as day. This $30 price tag is completely reasonable if only comparing it to some of the full price $60 garbage that people pay for. This is a very unique game. Highly recommend it, assuming it plays as well as the original.
One way this could be solved is actually by using the strengths of the Internet. When servers are at consideration to be shut down, the developers should keep in close contact with that particular community. Give them a chance to run their own servers officially. I certainly don't understand the full logistics concerned here, but there are many talented and passionate fans who have these abilities and skills. As much as I am a full believer in local play, I would hate to see "oline-only" games fade away. Take "Rust" as a proven example of how great an online experience can be. In this case meeting people in the servers is part of the fun. Not knowing if you can trust that man with the bolt action rifle who insists he's friendly. I enjoyed your article!
I think the point is that he is taking responsibility. And instead of hurting the staff, he takes the paycut. It doesn't mean he has to struggle to make a meaningful gesture. Nobody has to struggle. Get it?
@Kaze_Memaryu To be fair I wasn't referring to any individual person. I'm also fine with people who don't like it. However they have the pro controller as a solution, save a few games where the gamepad is essential. Which is the cases where it shines most. I fail to understand the ultimate turn off imposed by the controller.
I really don't understand why people would want the Wii U to ditch the gamepad. Although it's not always implemented perfectly in each game, the potential is there. It is not the same as smart glass at all. The Vita/PS4 connection is the only comparable option because it is not a third device. But that assumes you have a Vita. Off TV play and NintendoLand justifies the controller. And since Sony and Microsoft are both taking a similar approach, why would you want Nintendo to be the only one to ditch it.
Even though there are trolls, a lot of people are honestly misinformed so I thought I should point it out. cause I think the small screen looks great. Loving the off-TV play and other games that have used it for gameplay. Looking forward to see what comes of it. I don't see how the gamepad hurts any games though if it doesn't use it. To each (developer) his own.
I see a lot of people complaining about lag in here. Most of the time that has to do with your or your opponents internet connections. This happens on all systems and all games. If Microsoft has done one thing right, it was introducing high speed only online gaming with the original Xbox. That's a big step. Let's not blame Wii Sports Club for bad connections.
I personally don't believe online would 'ruin' anything. But I can also see their side. if they design a game around everybody's personal situation like, (I dont have time, or I have no friends that play) then you get the cheap phone games.
I think the outcry for online multiplayer is a little overblown. Not to say I think its wrong to want it. But the developers designed this way on purpose. So if online multiplayer is the only thing you buy games for, this game is not for you. I see no reason to be so sour about it. To put into perspective, I thought Super Mario 3D Land was great. It also could have had any multiplayer, but it didn't. I don't remember the complaints on that.
I think Nintendo selling to Disney would be a terrible decision per gaming. I don't see how this would make the games better in any way. Even the best advertising campaign in the world wouldn't magically make the games better.
@citizenerased I think your missing the point about the lack of blockbusters in February. Especially for Wii U. I was very excited to buy it and then after delay I bought other games instead. Not just for Wii U. Anyway many more people would have bought it. Unlike me, others were absolutely desperate for a new Wii U game and would have bought it. That game caters to people that love Nintendo games. We all grew up on Nintendo platformers in the 90's. Easy sell. Don't compare to the profits of w101 that is a harder sell to Legends. Can't wait to buy both of these games actually.
@Doma But that's the point right? They are great at what they do. Make great games. And they are very successful. There has been a very slow start to Wii U mainly cause of poor advertising. As for 3d and gamepad, its success or failure doesn't make them gimmicks. If they had no intention on supporting these features and just used them to get sales I would agree. However I believe the intention is to create different experiences. The most simplistic thing like off TV play is something I never knew I wanted. And innovatiin comes in many forms. We've seen tablets before. But making it a controller is a new take on that.
@Doma That doesn't even make sense. Being compentant is not directly related to competetion.
It means you do well on your intentions. Being successful at something is a branch off that. They are not gimmicks, you just say that because they don't appeal to you.
Edit: Reading this back sounds rude. Not my intention.
@OliverAdam I know many people who have never heard of a Wii U and I know many who do but haven't bought one. The Wii branding was a smart move save the fact that they only added a "U". But I never had anyone tell me that they weren't buying it because of the 2nd screen. Ever. Love my Wii U.
I enjoy digging deep into content and revealing underlying themes and possibly overanalyzing. Having these discussions is healthy as others have said. However in this case, Ocarina of Time, has probably been underanalyzed and generalized at every turn. The main argument he tries to make is Zelda being portrayed as a useless damsel in distress and Ganon being a dark skinned villian. Zelda was far from a "useless". Sheik is more capable then Link in many ways. When it is revealed to be Zelda, it actually flies in the face of sexism. Don't under estimate women. She's kidnapped because of her connection with Triforce, not because she is a women. And as for dark skinned Ganon, black vs white, light vs dark, it is sybolism at the most. It visually shows an oppostion. It is used to compare Link and Ganom. Make them appear as opposites. It doesn't imply everyone with dark skin is in anyway evil. The problem is generalization. For example, if Zelda was just a damsel in distress, that doesn't mean all women are weak. Just the character. Eh, just my two cents.
I've been waiting for more news on this. I'm a huge fan of Nintendo exclusives and Sony exclusives. Was a big fan of Halo but to me it has lost its appeal. (still do Halo: Combat Evolved LAN parties.) Always loved PC gaming back in the day including unreal, half life, counterstrike, myst series. Haven't been able to keep up with a nice machine. If they make an afforable option that can play all the downloadable content, I will be enjoying my new steamboxmachine. Theres only room for one box. I predict Nin, Sony, Valve will be this generations big 3.
@ricklongo Ha. I also bought Pikmin 3 but haven't made it far because me and my wife play it together but she can't pull long stretches of gaming like me. May I suggest (if you haven't already) play online. Its such fun with a group and most are willing to help you with details you may not understand.
My only problem with gta is its extreme popularity because its view ed as mature. when its anything but. It detracts the target audience away from other great experiences. Not just Nintendo games though. That being said I've always enjoyed gta from flying the dodo plane to wrecking havoc. It is a great sandbox experience. Violence is everywhere in games. While gta can be viewed as "more" violent, drawing the line here seems arbitrary.
