I know I'm late to the party - but this is an excellent feature. Always really like it when you guys go in-depth on devs and artists. Keep up the good work NL
Oddly, Knuckles Chaotix actually did see one rerelease, on a now-defunct service called GameTap. And even then, Sega pulled it off the service rather quickly. My pet theory is that Sega is just embarrassed that the game exists at all
@nessisonett Clearly it isn't, and your loaded discourse isn't helping anybody, much less the trans community. I would suggest you put aside the resentment you're so clearly carrying around - then you might be able to construct a reasoned argument that people will hear. Until then, discourse with you is utterly pointless.
People in this comment section (and on the internet in general) need to realize that disagreement is not violence. Anybody who has ever been in a fight knows the difference between words and violence. Not everybody has to agree and disagreeing does not automatically equal bigotry. Losing our ability to amicably disagree with one another is a big part of the reason why the world is in such poor shape today. If you believe deadnaming is such a sign of disrespect, you can convey that message without resorting to petty namecalling, or worse, attempting to "cancel" them for being wrong in your eyes. And on the other hand, some may not get the concept of deadnaming or why some percieve it as hurtful, as many people have never even met a transperson and not all transpeople find that offensive (I personally know at least one transperson who finds this business very tiresome) - but you do still need to treat all people with basic levels of respect no matter who they are or how they differ from you. It's not justifiable to belittle transpeople or their plight just because you disagree with Swery's decision to rewrite this character, and joking about this is only going to degrade the discourse surrounding this issue.
@nessisonett I see you in particular taking to the comment section to shame anybody who thinks differently than you on a regular basis. I agree the suicide rate in the trans community is a big problem - but do you really think you are changing any minds by rushing in here and throwing emotionally charged rhetoric around? Is this the place to have that discussion properly? Or is this the comment section of a Nintendo news website? Regardless, you can criticize constructively without alienating everybody you disagree with. You can try to educate instead of tearing down anybody who doesn't see it the way you do. Telling someone they're going to "die out" will only make them close their ears to what you're saying.
Tl;dr: Maybe it's for the best that Swery learned this lesson before he inadvertently hurt anybody with his portrayal of a trans character - but let's not pretend there isn't a ton of confusion surrounding this issue even for well-meaning people, and I hardly think Swery's ignorance of the subject equates to bigotry. There has to be some level of understanding of the artist's intent before we condemn them to the court of public opinion. Clearly he felt guilty once people let him know what deadnaming is and why it's controversial.
Edit: Apologies for this long post, but it really is the sort of issue that shouldn't be relegated to a short, careless response.
@FX102A Seems they may have been going for more of a Fleischer Studios inspired aesthetic with this cartoon, as the noodly arms and squash-and-stretch animation suggest something closer to Koko the Clown or Merrie Melodies than the Looney Tunes comparison offered in the article. I think it's very well done and captures the look and feel of the period rather successfully
I'm down to just a few hours a day, but I'm still having fun with it. I'm sure I'll get more into it when new content drops. Still waiting on the return of brewster's café, gyroids, the post office, police station, blanca and pascal, etc. I don't think it's a stretch to expect a lot of that missing content to show up by year's end
Under any other circumstance I would be excited to see these two join the MK roster, but this "game" is just too predatory for my liking. What a waste of underutilized characters
I don't want to be too negative before we really know anything, but right out the gate I'm noticing two things I don't like: no traditional partner characters and no unique npcs. I was hoping Nintendo would take this series back to its roots as they've recently done with 3D Mario and Zelda. If there really is no RPG battle system then this might as well be Color Splash 2
Makes me wonder if this is all to do with that rumored SM64 remake. Nintendo pulled something similar when that fan-created remake of Metroid 2 just happened to launch weeks before the reveal of Samus Returns. Could be the same scenario here
I'm just going to say it. Next to the rumor reporting and hacking/emulation news (which always sets off the community) these are my least favorite news items that you run. Tumblr fan art isn't a new or unique phenomenon and there is nothing newsworthy in this article. Just my opinion. Sorry to be blunt
I've played this. It's fun but very short. You can beat the whole game in less than twenty minutes. Seems like an odd title to tease when Knuckles Chaotix remains unported.
@MaciejKuczynski That would be true if winning industry awards were an objective measure of greatness, but anybody who's seen the Oscars or the Grammy's (or the Game Awards) knows it's not.
Not that I personally care what music people like. An opinion can't be "objectively wrong"... but people are allowed to disagree with it.
For me, Ultimate came very close to being the perfect Smash experience. The only thing it lacks imo is a more fleshed out campaign, closer to Brawl's or Melee's. Yeah WoL was a lot of fun and a decent replacement, but imagine how cool it would have been to explore side-scrolling recreations of the most memorable locations in Mario, Sonic, Metroid, MGS, Mother, etc. with Ultimate's huge roster. It's a shame there isn't more to do with these incredibly realized characters and move sets besides just smashing. Still looking forward to seeing who else gets announced for wave 2 DLC though
I'm going to echo what everybody else has said and pass on this offer. My Nintendo points are basically useless for anything except putting towards that meager discount on digital titles. Club Nintendo wasn't perfect but at least you were getting something tangible and unique for your trouble. Very disappointed that this is how Nintendo chooses to honor their diehard consumer base.
No really though, Banjo killed it this year. Hard to top a fan favorite literally rising from the dead. Here's hoping 2020 brings more nice surprises like that.
I'm glad things worked out the way they did. Both companies bring something unique and vital to the industry. Case in point, the mid-90s creative wellspring of game development that resulted from Sony going solo and needing to scrap for IP would have likely been impossible to replicate under different circumstances. I also would hate to think what Sony would have done with unfettered access to Nintendo's IP. Those CDi games were punishment enough.

Woof, that Post Malone model looks awkward next to those Pokémon. I'm coining a term here: aesthetic whiplash. Whose idea was this?
