I'm a huge Nintendo fan, but I'm a bigger footy fan... So I'm sorry to say I simply can't bring myself to playing FIFA on my Wii. Compared to the Xbox 360 versions, there's really just no comparison in my opinion.
You don't need a computer to get online with the Wii, you just need Wifi. Some people get it just for their Wii. Some people just leech off neighbours.
@ Everyone who is asking why they'd release this on Wiiware:
The game is a little different. There are a few different features. There may be people who prefer the Wii controls. Some people may not have a PC, or may not have a PC good enough to play with shaders on (the Wii version has shaders on).
I've had the PC version for a long time and have been a fan waiting for the Wii version for just about as long. I'm glad it's finally out, I picked it up almost right away. My biggest disappointment, by far, is the lack of pointer control as I use the mouse in the PC version. If it had pointer control, I'd personally give it a 9 but as is I agree with the 8.
For those of you putting it off: try the PC version first It is completely free, so what do you have to lose?
It really is a fantastic game. Nearly infinite replay value, well worth 1000 points in my opinion.
I really wish EA would stop treating the Wii like a kid's toy and give us a real football game not this arcade-y stuff. The Wii version and Xbox 360 version of this game do not even compare.
@23 Agreed. I was pretty awful at the start too but I loved the idea so much that I refused to give up. It's pretty easy to learn if people are willing to use the tools available to them: The online community for TB is always willing to help people who are new get used to how the game operates and generally what are good ideas and what are bad ones. Once you start thinking of it like "Well, if I was doing this, what would I be bending or not bending?" then you kind of get comfortable with it.
I also tend to find that one of the biggest problems new players have is that they don't know when to use hold or relax, the latter of the two being one of the most important options in the game. Most new players just extend or contract and that's not always a good idea at all.
@21 To be honest, a lot of silly nonsense. Those aren't really good examples of quality TB replays which is surprising because the person who recorded them, Hampa, is one of the developers and he's very good. The game can be quite silly at times, but when you're playing against someone of equal skill it can be pretty nail-bitingly intense.
Here is a pretty good video displaying the capabilities of the game (Granted, this video is taken from the PC version). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SjXz8gXgW6I The video is also quite a bit clearer and easier to tell that is going on. It's worth mentioning for those of you who don't know it that (in the video) the blue and white ragdoll is named Uke, and he is completely lifeless unless you tell him what to move. Later in the video I posted, you'll see the player facing some people who are differently coloured. Those are real players in multiplayer.
This game is really amazing. Honestly, I give the PC version a 10/10. It is free, in-depth, and has so many possibilities that the replayability is honestly near infinite. If you haven't played it yet, or have and were scared away by it's complexity, I seriously urge you to try it (or try it again). With patience and practice, it is not as difficult as you think and can really be one of the most fun games you've ever played. It's not just a fighting game on the PC, you can do so, so much. You have to remember that it is essentially just a giant physics emulator.
Now, having said all that... I still am skeptical about how this will turn out on the Wii. With the PC, you use your mouse to hover over joints and either click or use the keyboard (I use the keyboard) to tell your joints what to do, and I am afraid that the wiimote may lead to several misclicks. Secondly, I am afraid that multiplayer in the Wii version may be seriously numbed down from the PC version. Lastly, the PC version has a massive online community with thousands of mods for the game, and tens of thousands of replays for you to study, watch and chat about.
All-in-all, like I said, I am just not sure about the Wii version. If it comes to North America, I may still try it but... I really think I'm just going to stay with my PC version.
EDIT: I just read that the US release date is set to be right after Europe's release, on the following Monday.
@19 Psh well obviously no one's going to prefer this game over blockbuster titles like Uncharted 2 and Mass Effect 2, that'd be just downright silly. But it must be said that there really are some full retail release games out there that are worse than these games.
And I actually prefer having a disc too. I'm vain in the fact that I love to have a collection to look at. Nothing beats looking at a bookcase of games and stroking my beard as I contemplate, "Which one now?"
I was just trying to be the objectionable third party.
@17 Quite simply, because Nintendo wanted to milk the Pokemon name. They knew that a lot of children play Wii - or families with younger children - and they knew that a lot of children like pokemon. Pokemon Rumble had TV spots, one of the first Wiiware games that I personally know of to do so. They knew that even at 1,500 points, people would pay up for the Pokemon name.
@17 I disagree. I think they're increasing in price because gaming companies realized "Man, we're kind of getting screwed over on this whole DLC-fad."
I still don't think they're asking for anything outrageous, especially for a game with DLC like this game has. You pay ten dollars for the game. That's already one sixth of the price of a game you'd buy, new, at a store. Then you pay another twenty dollars optionally to extend the length of the game and usually give you new play options, meaning overall you still payed less than half what a new game costs at the store and with a game like this you're nearly getting the same value out of it.
So for sixty dollars I can get both of these games, with all DLC, without even leaving my home, and don't have to worry about a disk getting ruined, or stolen, or damaged.
As much as I love Back To The Future, and I truly do, I think I'll keep my excitement bottled up till I see some screens or at least some gameplay ideas.
Really excited for this title, looks like a quality release. Solid graphics, simple but challenging gameplay, and from the trailer it looks like it's a decently long game. I hope I'm right, cause I may be shelling out the 1,000 points on day one!
I have to be honest, this wasn't one of the titles I was very interested in. But now that I've seen a gameplay video I actually kind of can't wait for it.
Bah I still wouldn't call FFCC:MLAADL a tower-defence game. It's a strategy game yes, but Crystal Defenders is a much better example of a tower-defence game. I'm sorry I don't really mean to make it seem like I'm arguing, I mean to each his own - I just personally think that just cause the game takes place IN a tower, and yes you admittedly DEFEND it, doesn't make it tower-defence in the sense this game is. xD
Other than that, lol @21 Some of us Americans are unaware we didn't invent the language.
I agree with the score completely but feel obligated to point out that the screenshots are NOT from the Wiiware version of this game. The hud is different.
@12 Japanese culture is very different than... well, most of the world actually. For instance, they sell panties in vending machines. It's not right to judge them, though. Because they look at us and laugh at some of the things we do, and the world is a very diverse place.
I'm still super excited for this one. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, my only concern is that all this hype and all this effort is going to end up amounting to just a few hours of gameplay. Ideally, I'd really like to be able to punch out 5+ hours of challenging, interesting gameplay.
This game would be one of my top three favourite Wiiware games ever if they had AT LEAST online scoreboards. This game could have been so much better. Online multiplayer, LOCAL multiplayer at least... But still, it's fun. (Would have MILLIONS more replay value if they added the features I mentioned)
This game would be one of my top three favourite Wiiware games ever if they had AT LEAST online scoreboards. This game could have been so much better. Online multiplayer, LOCAL multiplayer at least... But still, it's fun. (Would have MILLIONS more replay value if they added the features I mentioned)
I personally object to this score. I would give it an 8 or a 9 based solely on the fact that only one other Wiiware game has ever gotten a 10 and there have been other 10-worthy games since then that did not get it.
You can check out "Valentine Final" and "Galaxy Tonite" to get a little sampling of the sound track and see what it's going to be like. In my opinion, it's quite a bit different than the previous games and hold much more melody.
I hope two things for this title which will lead me to buying it: The video reveals the graphics to be a little better than they look in the screenies (maybe they are early development screenies, after all), and secondly it supports online play. I'm sorry, but a racing game - especially for Wiiware - is only fun for so long single-player or even local multiplayer.
With releases this bad it simply must be a marketing ploy... Get all our hopes down with crap like this before the likes of Jett Rocket, Pearl Habour Trilogy, Heavy Fire, etc etc.
The fact that it's an on rail shooter is an instant turn off for me personally, but I may end up getting this one a few weeks after its release anyway just to support the hard work that must have gone into it. If the review reveals anything shockingly good about the game (like some replayability), I may get it sooner.
Please, please, please offer online support. crosses fingers EVEN if that just means some bloody online scoreboards! Online features simply offer more replayability!
That. Game. Looks. Fantastic. No doubt, I will be buying this one just to support the developers. I may gift it to a few people, if it's not 1500. I seriously hope gameplay length did not take a beating to make room for those graphics though. I would pay 1500 for a ten hour game with graphics like that on Wiiware.
The argument over which this is an actual platformer aside, I think I'll be getting this one. Six hours of gameplay for a Wiiware game isn't too shabby these days.
Man, how did this not get a ten? I mean, honestly? I'll take the nine but... You said it yourself, it has arguably the best graphics for the Wii and without a doubt the most complete and seamless online experience for the Wii -- SOMETHING WE HAVE BEEN MISSING FOR FAR TOO LONG.
Such.A.Good.Game. Me, personally, I give it an eleven. But that's me.
I maintain the belief that this game would be in the top five best Wiiware games if they had included one single thing: Online. I probably would never stop playing...
