Whichever way you slice it, Icon Games' next project Soccer Bashi combines the skill and satisfaction of breaking bricks with the showmanship and balls of soccer and is closing in on the WiiWare goal as we speak.
With 90 levels spread over different game modes there should be plenty of variety, but Icon is also throwing in a level editor to allow players to create and store up to 100 of their own levels. Apparently it's the same tool as the designers used when crafting the built-in levels, which is hopefully an indication of its power.
Here's Icon's own description followed by some freshly mown screenshots.
Soccer of the future; destroy the defender blocks and smash the ball into the goal to win, but watch out for the enemy defenders out to destroy you!
A built-in game editor offers unlimited level design possibilities, or play through the 90 game levels over several different play modes, including Arcade and Customisable Tournaments.
KEY FEATURES:
90 Levels of goal scoring, block breaking fun. With special level features including animated blocks, exploding blocks, shield blocks, invisible blocks and deadly 3D defender enemies
9 challenging end of zone Bosses to defeat
Level Editor to build your own levels. Up to 100 user created levels can be stored
Tournament mode allows you to create your own unique tournaments using game levels or your own levels
Loads of special Power-Ups & Super Power-Ups to help (or hinder) you on the way to the goal, including lasers, bombs, flaming power balls and multiple balls and bats
A wealth of special achievements and secrets to unlock, including secret level backgrounds and game block sets

This would be good without the soccer theme. I'll just stick with Arkanoid Plus, unless the level editor can share levels across wifi.
What, I say, what were they thinking?
Hmmm, could be good.Could be bloody awful too. I await the review with ,not quite, baited breath.
Disappointing to a person with my user name.
I think it has potential.
I am personally interested.
I love arkanoid style games, i'll give it a chance.
I too like a good game of Breakout, so I'll be interested to see how this turns out. Sounds sufficiently different from Arkanoid that it could be fun.
I'll probably get this.
I'm not interested. There are far too many breakout clones out there. Most of them freeware. What possessed them to do another?
I'm only aware of two breakout games on WiiWare, so that might be why...
'ello. It was a tough crowd at the start of the thread
We've now submitted the first 'pre-submission' build to Nintendo.
What price point would you guys think reasonable for Bashi? We're mulling this over at the moment and would welcome feedback.
EDIT: Were going for a 600 point price point.
