You've had an aquarium, a dolphin and a zoo in your Wii so far, but how about something even more sedate? How about... a fireplace?
That seems to be the thinking over at Korner Entertainment as it's just sent over the press release and first screenshot of My Fireplace, and what a screenshot it is too. Can you see all that virtual wood, virtually burning away into virtual smoke? It's enough to bring a virtual tear to your eye.
Here's the press release to read whilst pondering exactly how much better your life would be with a virtual fireplace on your TV.
Korner Entertainment S.L. and Continental Producciones S.L. proudly announce the release of ‘My Fireplace’ for WiiWare. Now users will be able to turn their television into a fireplace, equipped with realistic graphics… and a fire that will almost burn them!
But… what is ‘My Fireplace’? The answer is very simple: ‘My Fireplace’ is exactly what it seems. So you are about to try the first hyper-realistic fireplace simulator for WiiWare. Because… how many times have you wished you had a fireplace at home? Now, for the first time with the Wii, you can turn your television into a fireplace. And what’s more, it’s not going to be just any old fireplace. It comes equipped with realistic graphics and a fire that will surprise you.
Prepare the wood, light the fire and stoke it. Or, if you prefer, choose the ‘automatic’ option to have the fireplace on your screen while you eat with your family, celebrate a party with friends or dine with your partner. There are fireplaces for every occasion because ‘My Fireplace’ is going to be completely configurable by every kind of user. That means you’re going to be able to do all of the necessary steps but, if you prefer, you’re also going to have the option of choosing the ‘automatic’ mode to have the fireplace on your screen like a latest-generation decoration.
Besides, you can find the right fireplace for every moment, as it will be possible to choose between some different designs including ‘’Christmas’ or ‘Love’ style.
Who wouldn’t like to have a fireplace at home?
The countdown starts now.

"Now users will be able to turn their television into a fireplace, equipped with realistic graphics… and a fire that will almost burn them!" Yeah I am not "burning" my nintendo points on this
Sounds like a dud to me.
I Fell Into A Burning Ring Of Fire
I Went Down, Down, Down
And The Flames Went Higher
And It Burns, Burns, Burns
The Ring Of Fire
The Ring Of Fire
This looks even worse than my aquarium and my zoo and nearly as bad as flashlight.
Is this for real? Who would buy this piece of ****? This is just as bad as those stupid Happy Holidays gift cards. Why don't you get a real fireplace? Also, if you don't want an actual fire in your fireplace you can get one of those decoration logs at stores which has a switch that you turn on that makes the illusion of having a real fire.
Omg, who's going to spend his/her precious points on something like that?
"Why don't you get a real fireplace?"
Well, you can't really go to the store and buy a fireplace...
But still, who would buy this? Plus, I bet this is gonna cost 500 points.
what a waste...
easier just to chuck your wii on the fire.
I am going to spend my precious points on this as soon as it is available for download. Really. One only has to imagine what role this application (cause it certainly is not a game) can play in setting a very important mood when spending very important alone time with that very important her/him. I commend Korner Entertainment S.L. and Continental Producciones S.L. for helping us all turn down the lights baby...
More **** this week. JV games is back to making **** by apparently making a sequel to their FratParty Games:Pong Toss called Pong Toss Pro and no this is not a joke. Can't wait to see how this will turn out since the first game sucked so bad and got a 1/10. Here's the trailer if anyone's interested: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/debut-trailer-pong-toss/100036. The GT community is not too pleased with this bit of news.
The only flaw is that people like me have a digital TV channel called the Fireplace Channel, even in HD mode running from November until April. So I don't know if this will work, since I have the Fireplace Channel myself during that time period.
Lolwhat. A Wiiware contender for the Flashlight crown right here.
In the press release they sound so sincerely excited about releasing this to the public...Like they think families will sit together and use this as background filler. Do they really think there's a demand for this sort of thing??
what. the. heck. seriously. this is by far the stupidest thing i have ever seen in my life. flashlit could at least be somewhat useful for an sos or something, but WTF is this!?!?!?!? this is why nintendo's wifi network is failing. its kinka sad to watch actually....
Huh, huh. ... He said "wood."
Looks great, but I'm saving my points for My Paint Drying.
@RocketBird - You've just unearthed the Nintendo Life review philosophy for this game. Must make sure I put my name down for this beaut.
I don't know what you guys are talking about, this game looks awesome!
Hey Prosody, are you reviewing this app too?
i heard that their next project is "how to boil an egg"
@RocketBird: What, like playing checkers or something?
I realize this is ridiculous... but if it was 100 points, I'd consider it just for the kitsch value. "Excuse me honey, gotta stack the logs."
"Looks great, but I'm saving my points for My Paint Drying."
QFT.
@Prosody - Exactly, you've got game of the year potential here.
@LittleIrves - Hey man, call it what you will...
Next up - "My Blade of Grass". Water it and watch it grow, from the comfort of your living room!
The fireplace seems strangely fitting....
.....because I can just see people burning up Wii points on this, and they can just as well burn some of their dud virtual games in it as well!
Well seriously I would buy this, if, and this is a very big IF, they were telling the truth about the "realistic" graphics. I bought My Aquarium hoping it would look like a 5y r. old Windows screen saver but instead just got a bunch of pixels moving about. Not even close to looking real. I mean, if it would've been cell shaded or cartoony like Mario Galaxy I would've been happy, but the graphics just suck. I can't even look at it. So I'm not expecting this to look anything remotely close to real.
On the bright side, if it has the usual 55 second Nintendo Channel video I can just loop that
It's gonna overheat our wii's....
Wow...just...wow.
I hope the follow-up will be "My Window", where you can choose a variety of views to look out on. Such idyllic environments like a dirty field, or an empty carpark can be yours. Or if you prefer to look out of a real window instead; and see the neighbour you hate turn their nose up at your untidy front garden... you can do that as well.
I'll buy it. Been wondering why no one released something like this before. Sure, the log stacking sounds a bit corny, but it can be ignored.
It's also quite tacky to criticize something like this, when My Aquarium was quite well recieved, and even got an 8/10 review here. I'll take an atmospheric fireplace over boring fish any day.
Oh god how many of these stupid games are we gonna get?
@Adamant post 31:
"It's also quite tacky to criticize something like this, when My Aquarium was quite well recieved, and even got an 8/10 review here."
How can it be tacky to criticize this when one reviewer here liked My Aquarium? I don't think NL is a hive mind.
Although if the mods start referring to themselves as "we" and informing us that resistance is futile we might have a problem.
Why don't they just cal these games, "My Completely Non-interactive, But Passive Experience On A System That Was, & Is Meant For Playing Game Which Are Generally Considered An Interactive Experience"?
That ridiculously long name wouldn't be a stretch, if you consider what it is that is trying to be sold here.
Btw, I do hope that those who d/l this do indeed find worthwhile enjoyment out of it.
@The Fox: As for your comment (#33), that would be the Borg, from Star Trek. & I think each reviewer here does have their own opinions, as you do.
I think we need to rename these type of release's as lol-ware!
Next-gen gameplay right there.
They do no wiiware is for games, not this. I hope no one buys this.
@jhuhn (#11): Exactly.
@The Fox: No, but they're still speaking on behalf of "Nintendolife" rather than solely for themselves. Personal opinions is one thing, but "Nintendolife" is still saying "we're recommending (My Aquarium) highly; it really is a unique experience that will provide enjoyment for people of all ages and backgrounds.". Note the "we". My Fireplace HAS to be reviewed in a similar fashion (ie, not as a game, not criticized for "just being a screensaver"), otherwise neither review will have any meaning.
But i trust they will. It's not like they're IGN or anything.
This reminds me of a Sabrina the Teenage Witch episode where they watched a video of a Yule Log on Christmas Eve.
at least My Acuarium has more....uhm, "action" <_<
I will buy this just to make everyone here go "WTF!? Why did you do that!?!?!?"
I present my thoughts in the form of haiku:
$%#&ing useless tripe
seems to be the norm these days
WiiWare fails again
Apparently this made Hard News today on Screwattack. Congratulations Korner Entertainment, you have officially become the laughing stock of Wiiware.
Wow, even the press release seemed sarcastic. Did you notice that? Maybe it's a joke.
Pfft, yeah right. Of course this is real. It's too dumb an idea not to be.
Oh wow, this is like the Flashlight of WiiWare.
@Adamant
Ah, I think I see what you're saying there.
HAhaahAHahaa... WTF?!?!?! And I thought the 360's "massage apps" were lame!!! This takes the cake! How the hell did this pass Ninty's "quality control"?!?! LMFAO!!!
i´m sure that crap will cost 500 points, nintendo must give it free or 100 points.
"if you prefer, choose the ‘automatic’ option to have the fireplace on your screen while you eat with your family, celebrate a party with friends or dine with your partner."
Yeah cue the break up and strange looks given to you when you buy this, lol.
Interestingly, I'm not totally against it. I don't see it having the same success as Hudson's My Aquarium though. This is way more WTF? than watching fish swim around.
I did happen to read on gonintendo that this is primarily used to fund a bigger WiiWare project they're working on so best of luck to them. Hopefully it will find a wide enough audience for their dream game to become a reality.
Dude, why spend points on this when you can just load up the screenshot on this site?
Sure seems like you should be charging people to read this article with the picture enabled.
I hope someone can make a walkthrough for this, because my Wii points say the final boss will be TOUGH.
People are forgetting (including the devs) that you can already do this to your TV, they released a fireplace on DVD. Saw it on Drew Carey. It would appeal to people well, who don't have a fireplace, and are inviting a lady friend over, lol.
I'll get this if I find myself another lady friend who's impressed by fire, lol.
I've used TV channels like this before (at Christmas especially). I doubt I'd pay for it, but this isn't as silly as it seems.
Going by the 'My Aquarium' review, I expect this to get at least a 7.
You have got to be kidding me!! The stupidity with this is second only to the DVDs and VHS tapes I've seen that also have fire footage. At least this is interactive, but it could easily be an even bigger waste of money than Pop.
Actually, if I didn't already have the "Fireplace Channel" on cable, I would seriously consider this. I had my tv set to the fireplace channel during the whole Christmas holidays, and it also played Christmas carols. It was the perfect background to many a Christmas party. But for the other 50 weeks of the year? Hmm...
@BlueFlameBat: I liked POP! I'm starting to see a pattern form regarding you and I. Ha!
I'll buy it for 100 points. That's my last offer!
I wish My Grass Lawn would be made. Summer is too hot to watch it grow for too long.
Face Plam*
Theres no need for Words
Just in time for Summer 2010! I smell a blockbuster.
I will save my points for Wii start-up the game
