Re: Dead Space: Extraction

edofthe209

I had a blast with this game. This is one of the few times the "interactive movie" type of game worked for me. Plus after each level a challenge level is unlocked that has tons of action, if you are more of a HOTD:Overkill shooter fan. I actually really dug the story of the game and the unlockable comics too, but im a big fan of the whole Dead Space universe, so I can see that not appealing to everybody. The highlight for me was playing the hacking puzzles while fighting off a sick amount of necromorphs.

Re: Tron: Evolution Battle Grids

edofthe209

After watching the vids for this and for the HD version, I honestly think this looks a lot more fun. The light cycles in this look spot on, whereas the HD ones look sluggish and, well, boring. Battle Grids seems to have more of the old school TRON feel to it, which I'm really digging.

Re: Review: Soul of Darkness (DSiWare)

edofthe209

Wow. I got this for my Blackberry a couple years back and thought it was pretty fun until I beat it 45 minutes later. It sounds like they went back to it and actually made it fulfill all of it's promise. Cool. Now, do I buy it again?

Re: Blood Beach

edofthe209

Aww, I was hoping this would have something to do with the Groovy Ghoulies song of the same name. Sad story. Anyway, I wonder what this game has to offer that Beachhead didn't already do 10 years ago.

Re: Teyon Releases Teaser for Heavy Fire: Special Operations

edofthe209

I've always enjoyed the genre. It's best in the arcade, I'll admit, but I'm having a blast with RE:UC(just picked up for $12.99 at Gamestop) and I still throw in Samurai Warriors: KATANA on a regular basis. I think the trick to a good home light gun gam,e is to do things that you can't do at the arcade. SW:K allows for the motion controls on the crazy weapons, has an epic length, and a lot of levels that control differently, RE:UC has the cool left to right look feature and extensive length, Ghost Squad has a 4 player party mode, and Dead Space: Extraction has a host of nifty ideas that I would like to experiance(have yet to play it). If this is just a basic light gun shooter that brings nothing original to the table then I don't see a need for me to buy it.

I will have to agree with the early posts on how it does feel just not quite right to have a it done with real war. I honestly have had issues with even WW2 games. Something seems a little off about using real world violence as a game. At the same time, I see our troops having a blast playing Call of Duty: MW, and they're living through it, so it's an interesting topic to discuss.

Re: Sid Meier's Pirates! Pillaging Its Way Onto Wii

edofthe209

I bought the original Xbox just for this game, as my pc's video card was too lame to run it. It is a blast! Since I lost my Xbox in a fit of very poor judgment I think I will be getting this. I just hope they don't stupidly make the price unreasonably high. You can get the PC or Xbox versions anywhere for about 10 bucks.

Re: Review: Cursed Mountain (Wii)

edofthe209

Finally got around to playing it tonight after the superbowl (Go Saints) and it is a blast! Really slow start, but I dig the atmosphere and the fairly unique combat. I have to say that I found the story sections that used the still pictures and odd filters to be quite creepy, more so than something that used a regular cinema, actually.

Re: Netflix Might Make It To Wii Yet

edofthe209

As nifty as this would be, I've got VOD with my cable provider and it has a decent selection of pay, free, and subscription (HBO, Starz, Showtime, etc) programming that I wouldn't really have much use for this.

Re: Konami Readying Castlevania Collection For Wii?

edofthe209

I would love this! I've only ever played the xbox 360 demo of SotN and I loved all 15 minutes of it! 8 would have down loaded it then my 360 took a nose dive into the red ring and beyond. This is a really cool idea, in my book. Alas, news this good probably is too good to be true.

Re: Sega to Abandon Mature Wii Audience?

edofthe209

Honestly, this is just another of Sega's myriad poor decisions. In fact, when in the last 10 years has Sega made a truly good decision, (aside from becoming Nintendo's b'@!<h) that has been a success in any real way? They either don't publish good games or they publish a decent game but tell noone they're doing it. They fail. On a positive note, I have enjoyed their vc releases as I never had a Mega Drive.

Re: Talking Point: Are Rereleases Killing the Retro Market?

edofthe209

@paygar, I understand where that article is coming from, but I don't think it's anything negative to Nintendo. They understand how to market to make a good profit. They understand how to get to the masses. I don't think the Big N should be chastized for being smart. Wanting to change gaming into a fully interactive medium that everyone and their grandmother embraces would be a challence to say the least. Honestly, it seems like too many games are trying to be a interactive movie to me, but I like my simple little fun games.

Re: Alien Syndrome

edofthe209

What's odd is, the back of the box says "Four Person Co-Op Multiplayer" hmmm it's now only 10 bucks so what do i have to lose?

Re: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

edofthe209

This game is a blast, but so blasted hard! I love it! It's a killer platformer straight out of the golden age. It takes the best parts of everything from the Mario series (and maybe a little bit from Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers for NES), adds some tweaks and twists, and just makes for one hell of a great time. Still have yet to try it with 4 player maddness, but 2 players is an incredible challenge.

Re: Phalanx Remake Coming to WiiWare

edofthe209

Well, I've been thinking about getting a vc/wiiware shooter. I might have to wait for this to drop so I can compare it to the other shmups and see what is best. Hopefully its better that Protothea and longer that Star Soldier R.

Re: Castlevania: The Adventure ReBirth

edofthe209

So are they going to give us a date anytime soon? I've been playing Dracula's Curse nonstop to prepare for it, but I'm starting to feel like I've been stood up, dagnabit! If I get New Super Mario Bros Wii before this I might never get around to getting it. I kind of have an obsessive mentality until my next flavor of the month arrives.

Re: Renegade

edofthe209

First game on the NES I ever beat. I had a blast fighting giant angry women and kicking guys off of motorcycles. Back in the day I loved this game. Looking at it now though, ugh, those are some nasty graphics, even for the NES. I may have to get RCR, though.

Re: Review: Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (Virtual Console / NES)

edofthe209

After taking a month to beat Simon's Quest, I downloaded this with much excitment. Then I played for an afternoon and thought I beat it after besting the count. To my suprise I had just acuired Alucard and the real fun began! The diffiiculty on this one is incredibly amped up from the previous offering, but as it's a more straightforward action game it's a welcome change. The reveiw is right, for an NES game the graphics are stellar! I couldn't think of a better way to spend my free download.

Re: Alien Syndrome

edofthe209

Honestly, the only thing that has kept me from this game is a lack of multiplayer. I tend to think top down shooter games like this really benefit from having 2 guys on screen at once, a la Smash TV. In other words: I really want Animales De La Muerte to come out!

Re: Review: Kid Icarus (NES)

edofthe209

Playing this game made me realize that I am nowhere near the gamer I thought I was. I still cannot get past the first vertical scrollling level and I've put a good amount of hours in trying.

Re: Review: Super Star Wars (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)

edofthe209

I am a big fan of this game and was stoked about it's release even though I won't be buying it (I have all 3 original carts) but I will admit, age hasn't been overly kind, but it's still a great flipping game. I will say that Jedi has better graphics and all the force powers and characters to play as make it a superior entry, thus I would agree that a 7 is warranted IMO.

Re: Twin Galaxies Crowns First Wii Sports Resort Record Holders

edofthe209

I need to let my coworkers know about this. Our employers thanked all on our tech support team (about 100 folks) by installing a Wii game room with WS resort. Some folks have started bowling and archery challanges and I'm even trying to get top score on that damn frisbee dog game. We've got some real competetive spirits here, so they might be quite interested in this.

Re: LucasArts Bringing Classic Games to Virtual Console

edofthe209

I'm excited and bummed for this. I've got the SNES carts for all 3 already, but a busted SNES. Choices choices... I gotta say, SSW was amazing, and knowing the tricks like the extra life cave off of the second cliff in the dune sea made it all the more of a blast to play. ESB was uber hard! I never made it past the Hoth levels. Return was amazingly fun. I could beat 1 and 3 but ESB was just over the top on being difficult.

Re: Review: OVERTURN (WiiWare)

edofthe209

To MarkyVigoroth
I have to agree that the light trickle of VC games is a bit of a letdown to say the least. There are plenty of goodies, but there could be so much more if they would just harness the power of the DARK SIDE!!!...sorry, just got done playing Force Unleashed...

And yeah, the whole concept of a pure smut game like Sexy Poker being released is quite disheartning.

Re: Review: OVERTURN (WiiWare)

edofthe209

@ longtimegamer and malnin.
Thanks! Good to know. The more I hear about this the more I can't wait to download it!

@markyvigoroth
Why the boycott? So many goodies out there! Just think, you're passing up Sexy Poker!

Re: Review: OVERTURN (WiiWare)

edofthe209

@chunky_droid
I forgot about the balance error thing, what is that all about? Is it interactive?

@Djungelurban
I totally get where you are coming from. Games are games and should be compared as such.I guess it just seemed like the IGN reviewer was being unreasonably harsh AND the comparison to Armored Core, which is a game I despised kind sent me off.

Re: Review: OVERTURN (WiiWare)

edofthe209

I read the IGN review and the guy seemed to be very concerned that you could not upgrade the armor, and somehow that made this such a shallow experiance compared to the all powerful Armored Core. I say "PTHTHIPTHIBBBTHPTB" to that. Some how if a $8 game doesn't compare to a $60 game then it is just not good enough. I say poppycock!

Re: Overturn: Mecha Wars Coming to WiiWare on Monday

edofthe209

Well, the first look at the japaense version seemed like a pretty good review to me. I tried playing demo's of both Virtua ON and Armored Core 4 (on 360) and found them both to be too extreme in opposite ways. VO was just too fast and too obnoxiously bright. AC was just too drab and felt too much like it wanted to be a serious game. It's giant robots fighting for goodness sake! THIS on the otherhand, looks cool, looks like it has a good inbetween the 2 extremes style, and it will give me an excuse to pull out the balance board. I've been wondering when they would impliment that into a shooter as a control option. I like that Wiiware games are willing to take chances that retail games seem not willing to do.

Re: Monster Hunter 3 (Tri~)

edofthe209

This has gotta be the single best looking Wii game, graphically speaking. Show that jerk at TellTale THIS and tray and still say the Wii is underpowered.
