Re: Nintendo Wants to Keep Old Titles Fresh with DLC

drumsandperc92

we were expecting DLC with 3ds & Wii U and i'm glad to here. mario kart is the first game that comes to mind. super smash bros also does.
expanding rosters & stages of course being the most obvious use.
thing is, in this article Nintendo's motivation is to keep up sales of a game, even after other new games come out & said game is "old".
With this in mind, a costumer who knows there are, say, 10 downloadable stages in MK7 meanwhile there is another competing game that just came out, perhaps they will choose MK7 over it. Or someone who owns and beat MK7 is thinking about buying a competing game, and then DLC comes out and they don't bother because they want to keep playing MK7. It ups Nintendo's competition.
However, to do this right, they need to release it cheap or free.
Otherwise, Nintendo games will start to suffer the current gen's plague of us getting incomplete games, or games that are purposely MISSING pieces just so we buy them later as DLC. I can think of a few games that have done that on X360.
I hope Nintendo treats it's consumers right.

Re: Talking Point: NFC and the Latest Wii U Wizardry

drumsandperc92

the functionality described here by adding information to a QR card or whatever, sounds like it could be done using an SD card. i suppose this may be quicker since its all wireless. eh, if the tech is cheap and isn't going to make the Wii U cost anymore than why not?

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Considering Alternative Names for Wii U

drumsandperc92

I would definitely like to see another name for the console. I knew that the Wii U was a sperate entity from the Wii from the getgo, but I can understand why some may have been mistaken about it.
But I have no ideas for names..something simple. The NES 6? Nintendo Nexus? (as a play on the words NES and six, it being the 6th nintendo entertainment system essentially)

Re: Wii U to Launch Just in Time for Christmas

drumsandperc92

@RetroEagle i was simply saying that a Zelda game is highly unlikely as a launch title, due to the fact that Skyward Sword will have only been out for one year by the time Wii U launches. And also due to the fact that I too have read the rumors & interviews that say more Zelda is on the way, that also mention it will not be for some time.

Re: Crystal Dynamics Explains Tomb Raider Wii U No-Show

drumsandperc92

Two things. I'm glad they don't want to try to force a game onto the Wii U that wasn't built for the console.
HOWEVER, to be perfectly honestly, although the Tablet features many unique and creative possibilities that don't currently exist in consoles, it also features the same classic button controls you find on t360 & PS3 controllers.
Nintendo didn't do this by accident, they did it on purpose to be a little more friendly to 3rd party developers. I know 3rd parties always had classic controller/gc controller options on the Wii, but of course they felt compelled to use the Wii mote.
Now, the main control scheme has all the new possibilites the tablet provides, but, as the Zelda HD demo showed us, it has the very SIMPLE possibility of taking the HUD off the TV and putting it on the controller & using plain old button controls!
That's why I think this statement is a little troublesome...
The Wii U can absolutely have done a direct port of this game from the 360/PS3, simply putting a map and the pause menu on the Tablet and using plain old controls. No other features of the tablet or Wiimotion+ needed to be used. 3rd party developer's need to understand this - Nintendo is hands out given them everything they could conceviably ask for - 1:1 motion controls if they want to use it, a touch screen on the controller, panaramic views, all the different demos of what the tablet could potentially be used for from E3, next gen graphics & power, internet functionality, and simple, good ol' button controls!
No developer needs to use any of the more creative stuff if they want to simply port, something that was an issue with the Wii (along with the lack of power of course) Do you think if Bethesda ends up porting Skyrim, they are going to do much more than simply but the menu's onto the Tablet? I guarantee they do not. And they should port it because it'll run a whole lot better on the Wii U than on 360/PS3!
My point is, I don't like the attitude of crystal dynamics or the fact that they seemed to be intimidated by the Wii U's control scheme.
But on a positive note it does also sound like they are interested in the Wii U and building a game specifically for it that does utilize the creative possibilites it brings to the table. So we'll see what happens in the future - i just hope that 3rd party games of this gen and the coming gen don't skip porting to the Wii U simply because of it's controller, Nintendo made it that much easier for them to port via the return of button controls, i hope they realize this.

Re: Wii U to Launch Just in Time for Christmas

drumsandperc92

oh yeah, and along with everyone else, if it is around $350 or below I'll try to scrape together the cash, plus one game. $400 is a lot to drop but this will probably be worth it. What will sell me is if I see any MAJOR, HUGE new titles in one of the following Nintendo series:
1. Zelda (unlikely, almost guaranteed no, but hey, one can wish)
2. Super Mario (more likely, and as much as I loved galaxy 1 & 2 i'm hoping for something more along the lines of SM64/sunshine with a nice big Hub world that also had stuff to do, unlike the hub ships in G1 & G2)
3. Metroid PRIME (make a return!!!)

Those three, particularly because they would probably take the most advantage of the new horsepower of the Wii U, as well as the fact that they are typically fairly large games and will last me a while if I only bought one game at launch. I think the only other game Nintendo could concevably launch with to move this console would be Pikmin 3, fans would buy this system just for that game.
They might do that NSMBMii, but to honest it wouldn't showcase the Wii U's power. They could throw us a surprise, new Starfox or F-Zero, anyone? You never know.
Oh, and yes they need a strong 3rd party launch line which looks like it will have. But as I said to sell me at launch I think I need one of those 3 games I mentioned above. I know the Wii had Twilight Princess but I didn't buy the wii at launch due to the fact that TP was on gamecube & i just got that version (at first) and the Wii didn't really have other games that compelled me to get it right away. Come on Wii U, this could be Nintendo's best sales figures ever if they do it right!

Re: Wii U to Launch Just in Time for Christmas

drumsandperc92

Smart. I was hoping for this. I probably won't get one at launch, i'm anticipating this item being $300+ and likely won't have that extra cash lying around. But for Nintendo' sake, this is obviously a smart move. I remember when the Wii first came out around that time of year, you couldn't find one, and stores had lines out the door for them.
I attribute the poor sales of the 3DS in the beginning not necessarily to it's high price alone, but absolutely also due to it's random Spring launch...when are gifts given or extra money randomly found in the middle of Spring? It caught me off guard completely...during the Holidays customers are saved money for gifts, and many people receive money as gifts so right after the holiday's they can go get whatever they want. They should've hyped the 3DS more, waited for SM3DL and MK7 as launch titles, and launched the 3DS during this past holiday season. It already did very well, but I think it would've done just as well at the original $250 price point, raking in loads more cash for Nintendo.
Anyway, here's hoping the Wii U flies off shelves. I actually hope that I can go to any major retailer at the end of the year, and find they are all sold out of Wii U's.

Re: Need for Speed: Shift Dev Creating Project CARS for Wii U

drumsandperc92

looks a bit bland if you ask me, shift 2 had more personality & excitement. However, i could see a lot of potential use with the tablet controller in racing games. most obvious would be for it to act as a steering wheel, but the wii mote already did that anyway. but who knows what we'll see..
one other thing - that trailer is on PC perhaps, but there is no excuse for the Wii U version to not look at least just as good. The thing about tech for new consoles when they come out is, they need to be able to at least match current PC's performances and have the potential to go above and beyond current performances to keep up with the times.
We all know the Wii U is Nintendo catching up to the HD world we live in, but it needs to also skip a generation power wise to catch up with the likes of microsoft & sony's next consoles. If Wii U can't match this trailer if not make it even better (which is a good looking trailer graphically) then I'll be sorely disappointed.
i've got hope though based on the Zelda HD demo. Can't wait for some actual gameplay footage at E3 this year.
#dothingsrightnintendo.

Re: Rumour: Two Zelda Titles in Development

drumsandperc92

2 on the 3DS & one on the Wii U, have all 3 be related to each other in even more interactive ways than the Oracle games were, but in essence the same way...i.e. you don't get the FINAL ending on one unless you have a completed save file from the other two or something to that end.
Have interconnectivity between the 3DS games & the Wii U game.
This would be a smart move for Nintendo..they could get very creative in ways to connect the games and truly make for an epic story.
Also, it would give a very high reason for fans who don't own a 3DS and are very borderline about it, such as myself, to get one. It would also give 3ds owners who are borderline about getting the Wii U a good reason to get one.

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Wii U Will Not Make Wii Games Sharper

drumsandperc92

while im not really dissappointed by this, it would've been a great inclusion. however, i'm not surprised...i think they might be purposely leaving this out to potentially release HD versions of Wii games.
Let me put it in perspective. Xbox 360 is a generation greater than xbox in graphics, and is in HD. But the 360 does not have the ability to upscale xbox games into HD. Given that the Wii's graphics are considered to be gamecube 1.5 (basically just a bit better than the previous generation), let's round down and simply consider it to be part of last gen's graphics. Wii U, let's consider part of the 360 generation graphically (being modest! We all know it'll be much better! i hope!!) asking the wii u to have upscaling for wii games is like asking the 360 to do upscaling for xbox games which it does not do, so i'm not surprised.
furthermore, both sony and microsoft's current systems have released individual games and bundles both via download and on retail discs of last generation's gems in HD. I can foresee nintendo doing this with perhaps some of the hidden gems on the wii that never got the limelight they deserve...i doubt we'll see super mario galaxy 2 rereleased, because we are going to have a brand new ground up truly next gen mario game in full 1080p HD. It'll look way better than the upscaled screenshot of SMG2 included in this article, we can all count on that.
At the very least, i expect the Wii U to be equal to an xbox 540, so to speak. the next gen efforts of sony and microsoft may still beat out wii u in terms of power, but we all can count on the wii u making current systems look like yesterday's news (which it is at this point).
What i do have to say though is i can understand why some people might have expected this of nintendo even when no one else did it this generation when they went HD....it's because nintendo fell a generation behind in power...so when everyone is playing skyrim on their 360s in glorious HD, we're playing skyward sword with jagged edges in a lousy 480i or something. perhaps wii owners feel cheated...like the wii games we all love regardless of graphics shouldve originally been in HD anyway to keep up with the competition, so now nintendo has a chance to not only play catch up with sony and microsoft but also make amends for being a generation behind for those of us who rly are graphics fanatics (cmon, we all love a great game but we are all suckers for gorgeous games! admit it!) and also, if it did include upscaling, i bet you a lot of ppl who wanted a wii but never got one because they only wanted to play a couple games (mario, zelda, etc....i only have a handful of wii games myself they are all first party titles. if my wii wasnt given to me as a gift honestly i might not have ever gotten one) the couldve bought a wii u AND gone to the back catalog of wii games and picked them up which they still can do since its backwards compatible but it wouldve been a big incentive if they upscaled too..then nintendo wouldnt need to do any rereleases in the future, they could keep printing the original wii disc..no extra work on their part. but whatever. ive ranted quite a bit, apologies.

Re: Rumour: Wii U Heading for E3 Face-Off with PS4 and Xbox 720

drumsandperc92

the controller is not enough to save the wii u from being dominated by the next xbox and playstation at e3 if this is true.
the ONLY way the wii u will stand a chance if the next generation consoles all come out around the same time is if the wii u's power under the hood is comprable to the power of the next gen Microsoft and sony systems.
if not, then nintendo will yet again be a generation behind in power, and although they got away with it with the wii because of the motion control, i highly doubt the combination of the wii motion plus and the new tablet are enough to separate it from the competition. simply put, i expect of the next xbox to be way more powerful than the current, built in kinect motion control, voice recognition, massive harddrive and/or cloud storage, strong online system, wireless internet, regular controller support, etc.
the wii u i expect to have wii motion plus, new tablet (which im very much looking forward to and IS different from the competition, but you never know if sony or microsoft will come out with something similar) wireless internet with strong online infrastructure, we know theres no harddrive so perhaps cloud storage or the ability to cheaply expand storage via usb 3.0 or something similar, multimedia functions, perhaps video/voice recognition (can be done using the tablet), etc. Sound's like it can definitely hold it's own to the next xbox, but what it needs is to be as powerful as the next xbox too. my fingers are crossed for nintendo this time around.

Re: Rumour: Wii U and 3DS to Get E-Reader Capabilities

drumsandperc92

interesting. i think the best use for this as gamers is the digital strategy guide. perhaps if in a game such as zelda the controller was used as the inventory or map or something, it would be easy enough to put that function back to a pause button or an on screen mini map or something, and then be able to bring up a strategy guide that can use some sort of smart search type feature to find out where you are in the game and bring you directly to the appropriate page in the guide? that would be cool.
not too excited for any other use of it as an e-reader. especially since the controller is a streaming device and the console is where all the computing happens. means you can't take it with you or anything, you're going to have to be within some sort of close proximity to the console. using nintendo's own example from e3, if you're reading something, say a comic, on the tv screen and someone wants to watch TV, you switch it to the controller. ok...but that person is now watching tv...you probably want a quiet place to read your comic...how far is the controller going to be able to travel? just saying...sounds good in theory, but, how useful is it really? and this doesn't really mean much, it's just going to be a function of the console, not the controller, and simply like everything else we already knew about the wii u, you'll be able to stream it to the controller screen.

Re: SEGA Confirms No WiiWare Outing for Sonic 4: Episode II

drumsandperc92

i understand no wiiware release...the wii is on it's last legs and now that skyward sword's out theres really nothing left for the system. but sega shouldn't forget it's still got an enormous fan base on the wii.
at least, they should put this on the 3DS. but perhaps it has to do with them not wanting to down-scale the HD version from the other systems.
Hopefully we'll see this on the Wii U at least then, with the HD version of Ep 1 also.

Re: Rumour: New App Store in Development for Wii U

drumsandperc92

makes sense. i didn't like the set up of the virtual console, too many bland lists. the apple app store is organized, easy to use, and looks great. it also makes great sense with the tablet controller...developers could easily publish the same apps on the Wii U as the apple/android phones & tablets. i just hope the Wii U doesn't suffer from too much shovelware and casual crap that causes it's reputation to plunder in the hardcore audience, as was the case with the Wii. Remember folks, the Wii U is trying to be a serious contender in the hardcore gaming market.
So long as a lot of the shovelware retail games we saw with the wii move to being apps as opposed to full retail discs, and the full retail discs in the stores are our nintendo favorites alongside 3rd party hardcore games, i think the Wii U will succeed in being a system for both casual and hardcore gamers. So i think this app store and a strong online infrastructure will strengthen both ends of the market.

Re: That Zelda Timeline Makes a Bit More Sense Now

drumsandperc92

ive always loved the games & how they connect, seeing the different places recurring (such as temple of time) and everything.
This timeline makes a lot of sense except for one thing (and bear with me, it's been a while since ive played the first 2 zelda games)...what about the sleeping zelda?
wasn't the legend that the sleeping zelda in Adventure of Link the original Zelda? the very first princess zelda whom all other princesses are named after? and isn't that zelda supposedly then the very same zelda as in skyward sword?
If so, it just looks like those two zelda games are way late in the timeline..obviously it makes sense since they came after the imprisoning war & everything, but it just makes you think, where is that sleeping zelda during all those other games?
Oh yeah, and i didn't beat skyward sword yet, so i don't know how it ends but i read something about POSSIBLE SPOILER!
****zelda sacrificing herself? so is that how she's put to sleep?****
Otherwise this timeline sounds great.
There is plenty of room for a game to come before skyward sword, but if that's the first zelda i imagine then we might need a different princess, or simply feature hylia as the main female instead of zelda.

Re: Wii U Hands-On for Media Only at CES 2012

drumsandperc92

if i were nintendo, i'd release more definite info at E3, but not release the system until 2013.
I know Wii sales are slowing down drastically, and Skyward Sword, the last hoo-rah for the system is already released, but I'd rather see them build up hype for the Wii U and have the tech as up to date as possible for launch along side the true next gen competition.
Meaning a 2013 launch, same year as the suspected next gen xbox launch.
Why? because then it will be obvious that it is a next gen system.
I'm worried that if it releases between generations right now, that some may not consider the Wii U a true next gen system and dismiss it right off the bat.
Also, just a personal feeling, a possible reason the 3DS didn't launch as well as Nintendo wished is that not enough people knew about it, and not enough people realized it was a considerable update from the DS.
For me personally i felt like I heard about the 3DS one day, didn't hear too much more about it, and then all of a sudden a few months later it was released. That's just me, i feel like there wasn't enough time between the announcement of it and the launch for hype to build, and they didn't do enough to make hype build.
If we see system specs, at least two controller support, and some actual game demos from both 3rd parties & 1st party staple franchises (mario, zelda, metroid, one of those) at E3 this year, and then STILL don't see the system for another year - year & a half, hype will build, they can even further update the tech, and really market this system as the next big deal, then release it right on time to compete directly with the next xbox.
I remember one of the biggest hypes for me was twilight princess. we saw a few screens and a trailer for it YEARS before it was released. that entire time, so much hype built up for it, even way more so than for skyward sword. I felt like it was a good 4 years between our first screenshots of TP & when it was finally released, and because of that i had 4 years to get more and more anxious about it and just begging for it to be released. They should do that with Wii U, my general consensus from the video game world is that while we say it's about time nintendo had an HD console, we aren't ready quite yet to invest in another system.
Give it more time nintendo, please.

Re: Vigil Games Talks Darksiders II for Wii U

drumsandperc92

great interview, nice to hear that nintendo is making it easy & its nice to hear the excitement this team has about the controller...they really seemed to love it.
also, i think it can be assumed they didn't want to show any game running on the Wii U itself because the hardware isn't finalized. Darksiders II on Wii U right now, according to this interview, was a direct port and looked exactly the same as the 360 version...they just spent time getting it running. For nintendo it probably wasn't enough - they want games to run better on Wii U i'm sure, because they can because its better hardware or will be better hardware than the ps3/360. They probably didn't want to show anything off unless it was something to truly show off the console's ability to out-perform the competition.
I'm really looking forward to this year's E3 because by then I think they announced that the hardware & release date will be finalized?
If that's the case you know we can all expect to see games running on the system. 3rd party devs will be exciting...i'm interested to see if something like battlefield 3 will look on the Wii U as good as it looks on ultra mode on a top of the line PC. But even better...i expect to see 1st party games running on the hardware, and that will be exciting since it'll be Nintendo's first venture into the HD territory and not only that, but HD 6 years after the 1st HD console was released, so they have to make some leaps to catch up & im sure they will.

Re: Feature: The Best Games on GameCube and Wii

drumsandperc92

This article seems a little dated for the Wii list.
I agree with much of the gamecube list, but believe it or not never played RE4 or Pikmin!
Anyway, I know it isn't out yet but the Wii list should really include Skyward Sword. It's gotten nothing lower than a 9.5 anywhere its been reviewed yet, and it's been said to be one of the best video game accomplishments of the past decade! Thats something to be said about a game that's sub-HD!
And Epic Yarn rather than Return to Dreamland? I know EY is probably more unique, but c'mon...RtD is so much better.
Here's my top 10 for wii
1. Skyward Sword 2. Super Mario galaxy 2 3. Mario Kart Wii 4. Twilight Princess (i guess we are counting this in the Wii era, makes sense) 5. Donkey Kong Country Returns 6. Super Smash bros Brawl 7. Super Mario Galaxy 8. New Super Mario Bros Wii 9. Kirby's Return to Dreamland 10. Sonic Colors

Re: Wii U's First Launch Title Announced Already

drumsandperc92

if PS3 version supports Move, it's safe to say the Wii U version should probably support motion plus.
The one down side i see to all of this, is that the Wii U's big new thing besides it's power under the hood is it's controller.
if one of it's big 3rd party launch titles uses the Motion Plus as opposed to the Wii U tablet it might make some customer's scratch their heads a bit.
For educated customers like most of us here, we know the deal...that the Wii U supports both & that both SHOULD be used because now with Skyward Sword, Motion Plus is finally realizing it's full potential...I definitely want Wii U to continue to support that technology.
The other thing is that it's a multiplatform game...which means there's going to be immediate graphics comparisons.
And since Nintendo wants this to be a next gen console, the Wii U version better blow the PS3 version out the water..it'll probably look similar but on Wii U we should see less framerate issues, quicker load times, higher res textures, less pop in, better lighting, no jagged edges, more realistic shapes, etc. Itll look much the same since they are most likely just porting it, not starting from scratch, but the wii u version should look much more polished overall, otherwise we are going to not stop hearing about how the Wii U doesn't look as good as even the PS3 let alone next gen consoles. So hopefully, this game looks good lol.

Re: Zelda Top Brass Discuss Link To the Past in 3D

drumsandperc92

with all of the talk of another Zelda 3DS remake, and the new Zelda 3DS announced that isn't a remake, on a few forums/stories i actually suggested this!
Everyone seemed to be clamoring for a remake of Majora's Mask next, but I'd much rather see a Fully fledged remake of one of the old top down zelda's...the original, a link to the past, link's awakening, oracles of seasons/ages, any of those games.
But from the same perspective.
I mean, take those games, exactly, without changing the layout of the maps or locations of anything or the way the dungeons are, for the most part anyway, and recreate it in the 3rd person, behind the back perspective of console Zelda games since OoT that we all know and love!!
Think about! They;d have to make the game from scratch, but keep all characters, dialogue, story elements, items, dungeons, map, etc, the exact same as the original...just this time behind the back and with the same control scheme of OoT 3D!
And in fact, you could mix gameplay. At certain points of certain dungeons or what have you, the view would automatically shift to the original, top down perspective. Then when you complete a puzzle that required that perspective and exit the room, the camera shifts again behind the back. I think that would make for an incredible remake, and a true REmake of the game.
Who would love to see that?
I know I would.
Or if they don't do it on the 3DS, imagine if they did it on Wii U? With next gen graphics?
I excite myself even thinking about that. It would be incredible!
And now that i think about it..on both wii u and 3DS we could get both perspectives at the same time!
Imagine if the touch screen on either system is the top down, original perspective (albeit in the new graphics engine of course) and the top screen or the TV is the new, behind the back perspective.
They could rework some of the puzzles and really make it very interesting to have the player use both perspectives at the same time!

Re: Nintendo Working On Two Controller Support for Wii U

drumsandperc92

Thank god. I hope this is true.
Honestly, I was SO stoked when I saw the Wii U at E3, i thought to myself, all Nintendo needs to do is give us a powerful system, with something that 3rd party devs would support & develop on.
As far as power is concerned I'm pretty sure every developer out there has no excuse not to create for Wii U.
As far as controllers go, you have the option of Wii Motion Plus, which is finally what the Wii was supposed to be, and it's attachments (nunchuck, classic controller, etc) AND you have this new Wii U controller.
And when i saw the Wii U controller i was ecstatic...a return to classic control schemes, support for motion, AND a beautiful touch screen that won't strain the eyes thanks to it's size.
But THEN, all HELL broke loose inside myself when i heard that it would only support one controller.
While i knew i'd still get the Wii U being such a fan of Nintendo's games, I was utterly disappointed. How, i mean HOW could any developer, Nintendo or 3rd party, create a game with any kind of multiplayer with any sort of fairness when each player is on a different control scheme? Not to mention said developer would have to go to the trouble of creating other control schemes...that would be a good reason for 3rd parties to not support Wii U.

Granted, this day in age, much multiplayer occurs online therefore you only need your own controller. In fact, i've only used both xbox 360 controllers i own a handful of times. By contrast, with wii i use all 4 remotes regularly.
With nintendo stepping up their online game i'm sure we'll see a lot more online multiplayer, but it being nintendo we are guaranteed to still see local multiplayer, the lack of which i absolutely loathe about the 360/ps3.
Therefore we need at least 2 wii U tablets. Get it done, Nintendo, I know you can!
It would be a train wreck to release Wii U without that support. It would be another 3DS with this whole second circle pad, but x8943598379458579837.

Re: Feature: Ten Years of Golden Sun

drumsandperc92

haha i loved Golden Sun. I had that and the 2003 sequel on my GBA, the last handheld i owned.
I dont remember why picking it up, i think i just liked how it looked.
To this day my stomach churns at statistic based, turn-based RPGs. I absolutely loath it. When i get in a combat situation in a video game i want real time controls to counter, block, evade, attack, etc. But when i played Golden Sun it was the first game like that i ever played, but i was young.
I never realised until i played it again recently that it was a turned based RPG, i never thought about it, just knew that i loved it.
I still love it and to this day its the only turned based RPG i can play, i dont know why! Maybe it's just the magical way it pulls everything off, it doesn't seem as static as others.
Oh, and i guess what might've helped is that the Pokemon gameboy games were technically turned based RPGs. Maybe it was because of that i didn't mind it in Golden Sun.
Either way, if a Golden Sun ever comes to a Nintendo home console, i'd definitely pick it up.
Wii U, anyone?

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Plans to Fight Back

drumsandperc92

I haven't owned a handheld since the original GBA. There were some great titles on DS, but honestly nothing that really struck me as "oh, i need to have a ds to play this!" So i didnt.
That said, 3ds has some pretty incredible stuff coming out, and i think it's not out of the question that i pick one up one day. I'll probably pick one up though once price is even lower since i'm primarily a console guy, and on a tight budget. also, looking to see if they include the second circle pad built in in a redone version of the 3ds. if they do that, lower the price to around 100-150 TOPS, after Super mario 3ds land, mk7, the next zelda 3ds, kid icarus, and the next super smash bros are on the handheld. then, i will definitely make a purchase, but i'm not feeling the need for one now. Nintendo wouldn't have had to learn anything if they released the system this holiday season along with all of these great games coming out, it would've flown off shelves quicker than you could say rudolf.
Far as Wii U, I'm getting it Day 1. Why? because nintendo, unlike MS & Sony, have not had a history of system failures at launch or other major technical issues. I'm confident Wii U will be built incredibly well, and as long as they launch it with a strong lineup of Nintendo favorites AND, HOPEFULLY something new from Nintendo (not slightly better than shelfware type stuff a la wii sports, i'm talking a brand new IP) than i think Wii U will sell like hot cakes.
But when they release the final hardware E3 2012, they better realize that MS & Sony are going to do everything they can to make Wii U look like yester-year's technology, a la wii compared to 360/ps3. That means 720 & ps4 are going to be coming out with the big guns, loaded with top-tier tech of not only 2012 but 2013 and possibly 2014. So that means, even if they have to sell it at a loss, the Wii U better be BRIMMING with some of the hottest technology that 2012 offers. Otherwise, i'm simply afraid it'll lose all 3rd party support after a mere year or maybe two.
The reason the wii has pathetic 3rd party support is because devs don't want to make such drastically scaled back versions of their games just to put it on wii. If 720/ps4 surpass the Wii U tech wise by any substantial margin, it's very possible devs will feel the same way again. Right now, if it was released and compared to 360/ps3 im sure it would blow it out of the water, but keep in mind nintendo is flagging this as a next gen console, they are jumpstarting the next generation, so it is going to be compared not to this gen but to the ps4 & 720. I really want to see Nintendo back on top where they belong.
They are the best innovators, game makers, and all around most honorable company (not just in video games) that i know of.
C'mon Nintendo, show us what you've got!!!!!

Re: Journey to the Desert in New Skyward Sword Videos

man the mining facility is coming straight out of Minish cap...makes sense there are gorons there too, as the minish cap's mining facility eventually becomes part of the death mountain. i'm interested to see how this game shapes hyrule into the hyrule from OoT....maybe that sea of sand will fill with water and become lake hylia? or, more likely, it'll become the gerudo desert. cna't wait to find out!

Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword Origin Trailer Sets the Scene

drumsandperc92

this trailer was on the GT TV special with Reggie Fils-Aime. They said it shows the connection that SS has with OoT & the rest of the Zelda series. The trailer clearly has people, creatures, places, and objects from other Zelda games in it but that's kind of the most obvious thing lol. I didn't really catch what other connections this necessarily had...the GT TV episode was pretty bad since they barely analysed the trailer at all...I guess it's just teasing that this game will bring a lot of "OHH!!!" moments from fans who've played the previous entries in the game, like me! But then again both Wind Waker & twilight princess had a handful of "OH!" moments themselves connecting both games to OoT. But since this is a prequel, it may do a lot more to explain things..can't wait till the 23rd! (thats when my preorder from amazon arrives)

Re: Iwata Unsure if Nintendo Will Sell Wii U At a Loss

drumsandperc92

For a successful launch, these need to occur ON LAUNCH DAY:
1. Console priced between $300 and $400. Nintendo costing more then they ever have means they mean business, and the hardware better be worth the cost.
2. System comes with one Wii U controller, one Wii Motion Plus & nunchuck, and a new variant of the 'wii sports' or some sort of compilation mini game disc. Also, make it compatible with more than one Wii U controller. That's the dumbest thing they can do for this console, is make it for only one controller....that brings me to another point....if they sell anything at a loss, just sell extra controllers at a loss. If they sold a wii u control for $50, $60 bucks, i'd definitely buy a second. Sell em at $70, maybe. $80, $90, $100, forget it. But still make it compatible!
3. Big AA titles from 3rd parties right away. Need for Speed, Battlefield, Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, Elder Scrolls, etc. These games will have been out for a minute, so port em to Wii U & tweak em to take advantage of not only the controls but the increased horse power. This means BF3 on Wii U better look at LEAST as good as it does currently on Ultra settings on a gaming PC.
4. Pull out all the stops with 1st party games. Launch with a Super Mario. Something new, something different. Something big, something that does for Super Mario what Skyward Sword is doing for Zelda. Not "New Super Mario Bros Mii", not another Galaxy game, nope. Something new. And i'd prefer a return of the hub worlds of SM64 & SM Sunshine. Those were awesome to explore themselves! Also, launch with Pikmin 3, or some other cult favorite. In addition, within the first year, promise and deliver on a slew of first party titles. A new Metroid Prime. F-Zero. A new yoshi game, anyone? Etc.
5. Have any DLC stores (Wiiware, eShop, whatever they call it) all up and running with a large library of all games currently available for download on Wii, plus more, plus gamecube games, and they can even add portable games to the library since they are already on the 3DS, i would buy some classic gameboy games to play on a big TV, or even just the Wii U controller!
6. Have the Wii U's internet system all set up and ready to go with User names for accounts, better looking "Miis" with more options, and because of the user names, do away with the need for friend codes. Just have user/account names, let us be able to make friends lists and parties, having chat built in (microphone on Wii U controller) video chat (again wii u controller) etc. Include a browser, netflix, and whatever else they got. The Wii U controller could very easily become a virtual keyboard a la iPad to make for some very easy browsing via Wii U.

Basically what I'm saying is, do what's expected of a console by now, and go above & beyond that. Have more power than 360/ps3, have a lot more power. Launch within a reasonable but serious price range. Launch with some of the best games Nintendo can make, show us what this system can do. Launch with support from 'hardcore' favorites that blow this current generation's counter parts of the same games out of the water. Launch with all the nuts and bolts and kinks worked out of the online infrastructure to make it really comparable and better than XBL and PSN. Then, Nintendo will have a great launch and kick off the next generation, putting some serious heat on Microsoft and Sony to launch another system.

Re: Skyward Sword Nearly Had Button Combat Controls

drumsandperc92

I take two things from this article..the Zelda team didn't know what to expect with Wii Motion+ so they originally didn't use it, until they saw how it was used in the sword minigame when it first came out. Makes perfect sense...they'd rather be safe with such a killer franchise than tack on motion controls that may or may not have worked (now we know they do, very well from what I hear lol)
The other thing I take from this is that not only did they not want to take a risk on M+ yet, but they in fact didn't want any random wrist waggling going on. THANK YOU! The motion controls of TP were pathetic and broken. They annoy me to this day, as much as i love the game. It doesn't make it unbearable it's just rather annoying...i'd rather hit a button to make my sword attack. Only thing about TP that makes it difficult to go back to older zelda's is the motion control with the bow, slingshot, clawshot, etc. That was great in TP.
So perhaps the button controls of skyward sword were still going to use the wiimote, perhaps just asign the sword to "A" or something to make it less gimmicky and tacked-on. I would've enjoyed that, but the premise of skyward sword now with motion+ is awesome. Can't wait.

Re: EA Pledges "Key Franchises" to Wii U

drumsandperc92

I'm hoping for: Need for Speed (almost guaranteed seeing as they put NFS on Wii anyway), Battlefield 3 (we saw that at E3, though the game will be older by then so I'm thinking it will be bundled with any DLC that comes out), Mass Effect 3 (i'm really HOPING for this one but seeing as it took a minute to get ME on PS3, I don't know if it'll happen right away), Madden & other sports games are kind of obvious (again, look at E3). Glad to have such a big publisher pushing & committing to the Wii U. good signs all around!
