I already have a low opinion of UbiSoft, and this announcement doesn't exactly surprise me or alter my opinion of the way they operate. It is however, unclear who's responsible for this outcome. Nintendo or UbiSoft??
I think Nintendo have dropped the ball big time on their software launch, and i'm almost inclined to think that the E3 presentation highlighting the likes of Pikmin 3 and Rayman Legends were merely empty promises, because they didn't have much else to show off at the time (apart from Wonderful 101, which they bizarely left out of the main program). It was Pikmin 3, Rayman Legends, and Wonderful 101 that interested me in the Wii U. Exclusives that gave you a good reason to get a Wii U. They were supposed to be 'launch' titles. Then they were supposed to be 'launch window' titles, then Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 were pushed back to Q2, now this game (a formerly exclusive title) has been pushed back to September 2013 to launch alongside PS3 & XBox360. It does say to me, that UbiSoft aren't particularly bothered about upsetting Wii U owners, much like they're not bothered about upsetting PC gamers.
I haven't bought a WiiU, but i'd be pretty upset if i'd bought one based on the titles promised for launch. Because as far as i'm concerned, there's not much of a reason for owning a Wii U at this stage, and the system's been out for almost 3 months.
Anytime I hear the words 'procedural generated' my interest sparks *1000. "Isometric, action/exploration roguelike with voodoo powers" just sounds awesome!! Hopefully it's good..
I can see the point you're trying to make, but....
The question i'm asking, is how on earth does a 13 year old kid have 'access' to all those weapons?! Living in Australia, I wouldn't even know where to begin in an attempt to acquire guns here. Then you go and have a look Walmart's website and see the range of scoped rifles, assault rifles, shotguns and handguns and all the different ammo on offer for walk-in & buy customers, and it sinks in.
My father was in the US for work a number of years ago, and he came back with a catalogue that resembled a Target or Toys 'r' Us catalogue, but it was full of guns and all sorts of weapons paraphanaelia. It blew my mind. As an Australian, it seems absurd that you could just walk into your local target and pick up an assault rifle, hunting knives and a whole bunch of ammo with relatively little trouble.
The kid might be pointing to the CoD inspiration, but in a culture as gun obsessed, and where guns are as freely available as the US, I bet there have been innumerable occasions where he has been advertised to through the media, television, internet,, and various catalogues (such as the one I mentioned), not to mention the fact that many times he's gone shopping with his parents or whatever, he's likely to have come into contact with weapons displays at retail outlets and such.
Without addressing the free availability of guns. in the US..I mean the fact a 13 year old kid can acquire such weaponry is telling in itself, then you cannot hope to reduce the amount of gun violence. We've had tough restrictions on gun ownership since 1996 when Martin Bryant murdered over 30 people in the Port Arthur massacre. We haven't had a 'single' mass shooting in 17 years since the restrictions came into law. So make of that what you will..
I didn't read the whole thing, but I got the basic angle. I dunno, but Joe Biden being commissioned to lead a task force 'exploring the issue' of the causes of gun violence, brings to mind Bob Arctor from 'A Scanner Darkly', sitting down in front of video surveillance monitors trying to crack a drug operation.... for some reason I can't explain.
Look, video games don't 'cause' people to commit mass murder. There's a much simpler answer, and it's 'mental illness' combined with a culture that permits virtually free access to military grade weapons. Not all people who suffer from mental illness will go on a shooting rampage, but I think we can agree that 'mental illness' is generally the common link if we're to sit down and look at the facts. That isn't an excuse. It's just taking a more plausible position than wildly throwing accusations at convenient scapegoats like videogames, or movies, or the President with his 'kill list', or whatever...Games don't 'cause' people to become mentally ill. I challenge anyone to argue otherwise..
The fact those guns are 'licensed' in games seems to be a fairly neglible thing to me. I mean, some of these killers come from relatively affluent backgrounds, some don't. Instead of all the scapegoating and finger pointing that's going on, America needs to have a serious public debate regarding 'mental health', and how to improve access to & 'increase' mental health services, and also in trying to better understand how to identify people at 'risk', rehabilitate people and integrate them back into society before they get to the stage where they pose such a threat. I think it's a deep systemic issue that's not going to go away without some serious self-reflection.
The societies we live in are often very stressful, we are driven to prioritize competition against one another rather than forming closer knit social bonds. There is a lot of alienation in western societies. I was surprised to read that 'serial killers' were virtually entirely a Western phenomenon. Non-western cultures tend to have very tight-knit, communal based societies, not to say there isn't violence perpetrated in these places, but that the 'lone outsider' serial killer archetype for instance, hasn't really existed in a lot of non-western places. Which begs the question, what is it perculiar to our societies that leads to such phenomenon?? We need to be looking more closely at the ways we organize socially & the way we organize our institutions and our relationships to one another to find meaningful answers.
Also, just because something was written on a piece of paper hundreds of years ago doesn't mean it's relevant today. Just ask both the Bush and Obama administrations for confirmation on that point. 2nd amendment rights do not really have an awful lot of relevance in a post-revolutionary period America for mine. Constitutional rights were designed to protect individual rights, but you can only have individual rights if 'everyone' does. What about the 'collective right' to be able to walk the streets without the fear of being shot at?? These are designed to protect 'all' US citizens. We're at the point now, where a certain constitutional right that no longer has an appropriate context, is actually placing the overall safety of the nation's citizens in peril, and the Constitution was certainly not designed to do that. So long as the government keeps the gun debate' tied into 2nd amendment rights, there is unlikely to be meaningful control measures implemented, which are necessary in addition to combating mental illness in general.
Well, it's good to hear i guess...but we all knew those games were coming anyway (there was always a high likelihood one of the Zelda games would get the HD treatment to pass the time..)
To me and a lot of others i guess, i'd like to see some 'new' entries from older overlooked games from the NES/SNES era, or perhaps a new franchise or two before getting overly exited. While there were good games for the Wii, it seems as though there are less and less games being released with every new console. Aside from the announcement of Bayonetta 2 exclusivity, there's nothing announced so far that's really make me sit up and take serious notice.
I dunno, I just wish they had teams dedicated to making 'smaller scale' downloadable titles that don't take 3 or 4 years to make, so there could be more titles on offer... I would think that with pretty fierce competition in the console and mobile gaming space...not to mention the relative affordability of PC gaming (as compared to the past), this system will suceed or fail purely based on the quality of 1st/3rd party 'exclusives', and having a steady/diverse flow of them. The novelty of the screen gamepad isn't enough to carry it this time, as the motion controls carried the wii.
I never played any of the Epic Mickey games, but I think Spector's talents would go to better use developing/over-seeing first person 'immersive' games like Deus Ex. Hopefully, this is what he goes back to doing when the dust is settled, because the strong sales of both Dishonored & Deus Ex:HR and Bioshock (i guess) in recent years show that there is an audience out there that is hungry for 'deeper' first person action games than say, CoD & Crysis, etc..
I've never played the game, and i don't really intend to...but, you need 8 of these figurines to see everything in the game.. a meagre 10 hr. 'full-priced' game right?? The Portal of Power is a con that only a game company as cynical and money hungry as Activision could dream up. The figures seem to go for roughly $15 dollars each on ozgameshop. So $60 plus another $120 if you want to see the stuff they're hiding from you..
"Sigh".. Oh well, at least their shareholders will be happy.
To be honest I haven't actually played it, but i've watched a fair amount of footage and read a number of reviews. I don't think the issue is that it's 'too' punishing on the player, it's more that in the singleplayer, the spaces you have to navigate through are far too confined for a game like this. Sure, having claustrophobic & dark areas filled with zombies when you have limited resources makes for a fair amount of tension...at first...but the problem is i think, that it feels unfair when the action is 'forced' on you due to the linearity of the design. You're relatively weak, and there is little way of flanking or sneaking by a small room with 4 or 5 zombies in it...Or perhaps taking another vantage point and getting the drop on them.
A game like Day-Z is a good contrast. That is an open world sandbox...perhaps it's a bit too unfocused.... but the point is, it has big areas and buildings that can be navigated and approached in multiple ways. You have lots of options...but here, you're kind of constantly being funneled forward down a relatively narrow path, and it makes for less compelling gameplay imo..
The multiplayer looks quite good tho. I'd really like to try playing as a zombie master..that actually looks quite fun.
Not at all. Goldeneye N64 is my favourite game of all time, and i've watched a playthrough of this game on youtube and it is garbage. They've done a good thing for Bond fans in Australia by not releasing it. It's not just that it's a poor game, it isn't actually a 'finished' game either (and i'm not talking about the Skyfall dlc either).
The thing that puts me off with this game is how claustrophobic the environments are. Progression seems to be very linear, and zombies don't spawn randomly each playthrough, which doesn't do much for replay value.
I don't like games that force particular actions. So if I have no way of approaching the zombies other than head-on because i'm always in a confined space, then I'm going to get bored pretty quickly.
A game like this needs large, open environments as well as some tight, claustrophobic ones. Bigger, non-linear environments give you more options for approaching a situation, but this just seems to force the action upon you, which sort of contradicts the permadeath/roguelike inspiration..
A steep decline in demand for console games??? Seems like a cop out to me.
Having a team of 200 does seem pretty unsustainable, particularly for a developer that doesn't put out AAA titles. I think the worst mistake Eurocom made was to develop for Activision. I didn't think Goldeneye wii was a great game, but at least it was competently put together, and had its moments. But Activision forced 007 Legends 'half-baked' out the door, because it wanted to cash in on the Skyfall release. Now having watched a fair bit of gameplay from 007 Legends, i'm convinced it hadn't even been in development for a year. There is so much wrong with that game its embarrassing. Yet Activision have released it at full price, which constitutes a scam in my eyes.
Compare to Goldeneye N64, and Rare were given the freedom by Nintendo to develop the game till it was done properly. They could've cashed in on some rubbish game that people bought purely for the Bond name. But Rare created a landmark game in the console FPS genre, and it released almost 2 years after Goldeneye made its premier at the cinemas. It sold pretty well though didn't it??
It's one thing I have to give Valve. I'm not thrilled about Steam, but in terms of their game development...you know you're getting a high quality product and value for money. You know you're getting a 'finished' product when it eventually releases. They're always fine tuning and adding free content as well, and seem to actually care that they make good games for their customers to play. All Activision care about is squeezing as much money out of gamers as possible and they don't give a damn about the quality of their games.
I think the message is pretty clear. If you're a developer out there being courted by Activision, run in the opposite direction as fast as you can. If you're a gamer, don't buy anything they release (excepting Starcraft perhaps).
Ha. Ask this question on a PC forum and you'd get the opposite response. As far as PC gaming goes, Ubi are about as popular as EA and Activision with players.
U-Play is primarily a form of DRM on the PC. I've purposely avoided buying Ubi games because it's bad enough having to rely on a Steam account to 'rent' your games, let alone having an additional layer of DRM added into the mix. I think Steam's a really good service, but at the same time, there are some troubling aspects to it that a lot of people overlook.
Back in July, every person trying to play a Ubi game requiring U-Play couldn't, because the server was down for maintenance. You couldn't log into play your game.. There was no forewarning or anything. They just did it. I can't remember how long it lasted, but it was for more than a day I believe, which is utterly ridiculous. Of course, they have the usual 'down for server maintenance' rubbish periodically that all of these services do.
I guess i feel that none of the stuff they offer enhances my gaming experience. Achievements??? They're ok..i don't get the big deal. It's the sort of thing that should be 'optional' not 'required'. Having to rely on an external server to play a primarily 'offline' game is a joke. It constitutes an infringement of consumer rights as far as i'm concerned...but hey, if people out there like it, and the service it provides, who am I to argue??
Well, I admire his attiude. Lord knows there are enough publishers who are happy to release the same game every year or two, and simply slap a higher digit on at the end of the title.
Still, looking at a game like Pikmin 3, how is that evolving from Pikmin 2?? It looks a similar game to me with HD graphics. NSMB isn't exactly breaking new territory either. So, it's sort of a strange comment to make in the context of what Nintendo are actually releasing.
Good lord, I hope Herman Cain isn't reading this article. Don't give the man ideas. Because he actually WILL invoke Bowser as inspiration for the formulation of domestc policy if he has another tilt at the presidency..
What's even worse than this ad, is the realization that some of these kids are going to be flooding the airwaves and music TV with their godawful pre-fabricated pop music in the coming years. They are the stars of tomorrow..
Responsible parents would simply bar their children from watching the Disney channel if they harbour any hopes of them growing up to be interesting, reflective and intelligent adults..
This ad makes me feel almost embarrassed to even want a Wii U.
It's a PC MMO and an old and decaying one at that. I refuse to play subscription based MMO's, and I know there are a lot of others that feel the same way. Plus i'm done with Blizzard after the whole Diablo 3 BS anyway.
I guess MMO's are going to become more viable on the WiiU, I just don't think porting PC MMO's is the way to go. The gamepad is a unique and interesting device, and I think the MMO's and games of all genres that will be the best on the system, are the one's that utilize the tech from the ground up. Too difficult to do this, and not much point really considering it's pretty much on its last legs.
He could have a point... Kids who played games on a wii that were say, 6, 7 or 8 years old when it was released are now teenagers, who might be getting into more 'mature' (don't like the term) titles, and into gaming in general. They may not have had an Xbox or a Playstation...
It's a cheap alternative to the Wii U, and the Wii U doesn't have the games library the XBox 360 has because its a new system. Its also in HD, and not too inferior to the Wii U in terms of specs. All the big 3rd party titles will come to the system over the next 12 months on the XBox 360, whereas that won't be the case for Wii U. Plus it has some great downloadable titles like Bastion, Mark of the Ninja, Fez, Spelunky and the upcoming Monaco.
I think the Wii U is going to be really good and I definately want one, but there is a demographic I think where the XBox 360 with its cheap price, and pretty extensive back catalogue of quality games and solid online infrastructure, is going to have a fair amount of appeal.
yeah i guess... I assume they'll have an ad or two soon that's actually targeted at gamers. It's just a worry after what happened last time that this is how they choose to kick off their advertising campaign in the US. The ad isn't going to sway any Xbox-ers or PS owners who may be on the fence.
Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. It's unabashedly pitched at families, young kids and casuals. If Wii U is supposed to be a system for 'everyone'... where were the people playing games like Darksiders 2, Pikmin, Zombi... they could've shown a short snippet of Bayonetta 2 perhaps etc..
It's things like this that make me wonder what Nintendo's long term strategy with this console is, and whether or not gamers are actually a part of that strategy..
Red Steel 2 was decent, if somewhat flawed..had a nice art style i guess. Probably could've been there in place of a couple of those Wii Sports titles..
It isn't obsession. Kids who are being emotionally and physically abused struggle at school because they are depressed, it's got nothing to do with work ethic or aptitude. I think you're misinterpreting how child abuse works. At what stage was anything resembling a normal functioning 'family' displayed in that video??
She's a young kid, and these sort of scenes have been played out endlessly throughout human existence. The parents are 100% responsible for her disinterest in school. If you can't handle the financial and emotional challenge that is associated with raising children....then... shock horror......don't have kids. Use contraception. It's pretty simple.
Children are never given the option of whether or not they want to be brought into the world. They should not have to be brought into such dysfunction through no fault of their own.
Great film.. I think its something many kids can relate to. You don't expect that sort of psychological abuse to continue happening to you as an adult, but often it seems as though it does. There's basically a lot of horrible people in this world it seems unfortunately..
There is no way this system is a stop gap. I think he missed the whole point that Nintendo pulled out of the graphical/processing power race 6 years ago.
It's next-gen because it is a new Nintendo console, and it does things no console before it has in terms of the controller device. Could you imagine the backlash from Wii U buyers if they pulled the plug after 3 years to release a new system?? People would just abandon Nintendo in droves. But obviously, they'd never do that. If you look at the history of their console releases, it's fairly consistent with what they've done, and i'd expect this system to last through to 2018. I think the online shop, and a focus on providing a viable platform for innovative indie titles is going to give the Wii U staying power that the Wii lacked. There will also be mid-tier developers who will find the Wii U a more attractive proposition considering that they'll have access to a large installed base, and will not have the same cost-risk associated with development, as they would if they were targeting XBox720, PS4, & PC..
It's great that you guys are giving coverage to this issue, because it would be relatively easy to sweep it under the rug and just forget about it..
I think one of the problems is, that it's all well and good for an NGO like the FLA to get involved and negotiate with Foxxcon and Apple for better working conditions, but at the end of the day, it's the Chinese Government that facilitates these conditions....and they've shown throughout the course a willingness to turn a blind eye to such abuses.
The Chinese Government provide all sorts of incentives for foreign companies to shift their production to China. They provide free factories, all kinds of tax breaks, including an exemption from a tax on moving capital outside of China. Cheap labour & weak worker rights are also a key part of that incentive for foreign businesses to set up shop in China.
Unless the Chinese government are involved in the process and enforce standards through laws, the FLA are simply relying on the goodwill of Apple and Foxconn to meet those negotiated standards.
I think that both the consumer 'and' the manufacturers involved can share the burden of any price increase. It's a little hard though to accept this notion that the onus falls back on the consumer to make up the difference, considering the astronomical profits of the companies involved.
They are guidelines, which means they do not have the force of the law at their back. So what are the consequences for transgressing? And what constitutes a transgression in a country with weak to non-existent labour laws?? It's not clear. I think you'd find most corporations who've moved their production to China proclaim to practice CSR in one shape or another. What that actually means for the protection of and compliance with human rights norms in practice is anyone's guess.
Well, that puts a dampener on things. Can't say i'm overly surprised to hear it though. But hey, it's the great Chinese economic miracle, right!
I don't think Nintendo, Apple or other businesses that have moved their production to China can feign ignorance about such matters. If I know that the workers are having their rights abused (it's not just Foxxcon) and they're not being paid proper wages, then surely Nintendo does as well. These people are the sacrificial lambs of the global neoliberal economic machine. It's terribly tragic, and it's not going to stop until people stop being obsessed with accumulating enormous wealth.
I don't understand this idea either of companies saying they would have to increase prices for their products if they manufacture them at home. Companies like Nintendo and Apple make mind boggling profits, so I think it's more about not wanting to eat into overbloated executive salaries and lucrative shareholder divedends.
It's an issue I find extremely distasteful, but unfortunately we live in a world that where profits are at stake, morality is simply thrown out the window.
@accc
Dishonored is pretty much the 'exact' opposite of what you said. It's not really an fps either. You wield a gun in one hand and a sword in the other, but you also have a whole bunch of magical powers. You can complete the game without killing a single enemy. It has large open levels, and the world changes depending on your actions. You have multiple ways of completing objectives. It's at the opposite end of the spectrum from a Call of Duty game.
There is no way Nintendo would sell their titles to Android and undermine their own hardware sales.
It's not going to appeal to people who play games on their phones, it's not going to appeal to people who play 3DS. It's a substitute for tablet/handheld gaming. It sort of looks like a Vita, but why would you buy this thing when you could buy a 3DS that actually has quality 1st party titles on it?
@ThomasBW84
That's fair enough, but I think the games being developed from the ground up with Wii U gamepad functionality at the core, are obviously going to be the games that do it best (e.g. The Wonderful 101 looking really good)
I think when you try to shoehorn gamepad functionality into a game not designed for its use, you run the risk of altering the gameplay experience for the worse by interfering with the game design.
On an unrelated note, has anyone seen the indie game 'Spy Party'??? It's an asymmetrical multiplayer game currently in development for PC that might be coming to the Wii U. It looks fantastic and it would be fascinating to see how the developer could utilize the gamepad..
I like your enthusiasm, but Harvey Smith has basically said it isn't going to happen. He said something along the lines that they're not really interested in input devices (i.e. the wii u gamepad), that they spend a lot of time iterating on in-game systems and I don't think they can be bothered committing development time to maximising the gamepad's functionality..
He also said something vague like "We know our audience on the Xbox 360 and PS3"...which gave me the impression that they're not convinced there'd be enough Wii U owners interested in the title.
It's an amazing game, but unless there's a Dark Souls style petition to get the game on Wii U, I can't see it happening. Despite the fact I don't think it would be awfully hard to simply map the UI to the gamepad, so that you could select powers and such on the fly and read notes while keeping the game running on the screen.
Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! OH MY GOD!!! lol at the girl having the panic attack..
Apparently UbiSoft made him punch in authentication codes for every door he had to pass through in the building, and then pass a retinal scan and a lie detector test before doing that promo.
Well, if Wikipedia is to be trusted as a reliable source, you'd have to think that Retro are working on a successor to the Metroid Prime series. I mean if they've hired staff from Vigil and ID Software, Vigil make the Darksiders games which have the sort of big open areas and puzzle solving elements of Metroid, and ID Software are really only known for making first person shooters. So unless Zelda's being transformed into an FPS, you'd have to think that the staff hirings point towards a Metroid Prime type of game. Also, it's apparently "a project everyone wants us to do". So.....
Well, he's obviously got an interest in pumping up the Wii U's tyers considering Ubi have made a pretty heavy software investment in the machine. Still, I think it's kinda cool. I prefer what they're trying to do with this over the Wii.
I find it weird how there's this stigma against having a 'white' console.. Like you're not a 'core' gamer unless you have the black console I don't get it..
It is a bit weird they don't give you the choice, i'm sure they will later on. I would probably choose the black one if I had a choice...but it's not something that really bothers me. Now if it was 'pink', then we have a problem
Yeah, I can actually see where they're coming from. I was looking at the two deals the other day and thinking to myself, do I really want to pay $80 more for Nintendoland, a bunch of in-essential peripherals and slightly more storeage.
Storeage is cheap, and at the end of the day if you're doing a lot of gaming on the machine and downloading games and what not, you're going to want more than 32 GB's anyway.
So the basic version seems a good deal to me, because I can then buy a game I actually want (Darksiders 2 or Assassins Creed 3 or something else....) for the same price as the deluxe bundle.
The only comment i've heard from Rockstar was something along the lines that they weren't targeting the Wii U, because they doubted they'd have an audience on the console.
Good to see i'm not the only gaming dinosaur here. Keystone Kapers on the Atari was one of my earliest gaming experiences! I agree that 'games' are what really matters and what ultimately drives 'sustainable' console sales, and Nintendo obviously have a long history of developing great games. I still think they've dropped the ball somewhat since the 64' in that regard (probably selling off Rare contributed to that)..
I'd like to see Nintendo branching out and coming up with a new franchise or two this generation, whether it be as a publisher or a developer....because it didn't happen on the Wii...
Well, that's Chris Seavor saying that Rare would still more or less exist as it was under Nintendo...Martin Hollis has said similar things.
$375 million is nothing to be sneezed at, but when you have a developer that releases critically acclaimed games like Goldeneye, Banjo-kazooie, Donkey Kong, Blast Corps, Perfect Dark, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Diddy Kong Racing, and Banjo-Tooie in one console cycle....I mean Nintendo chose short term financial benefit over long term superiority over the competion in software development. I mean, those are the sort of titles that also shift console sales..
The Wii suffered in its later years because it was a SD device in an HD era...but also because it neglected the 'software' side of things. I think it was short-sighted of Nintendo to sell off one of the most talented developers going around at the time...and i just wish they'd round them up and get them working on games for the Wii U..

Yeah.. Hearing advice for NES games like Ghosts 'n' Goblins would've been interesting. In fact most of them..
"Hello, yes...Um sir, the game is simply trying its hardest to kill you!! bye!!"

@Blue_Yoshi
I remember playing Toejam & Earl on a friends Genesis back in the day. What a wacky game!! More like it please.

Good spot!!
Anytime I hear the words 'procedural generated' my interest sparks *1000. "Isometric, action/exploration roguelike with voodoo powers" just sounds awesome!! Hopefully it's good..

Re: Don't Worry, There's A Cavalcade Of Fan-Favorite Wii U and 3DS Games Incoming
Re: Warren Spector: "I'm Sad But Excited For The Future"
I never played any of the Epic Mickey games, but I think Spector's talents would go to better use developing/over-seeing first person 'immersive' games like Deus Ex. Hopefully, this is what he goes back to doing when the dust is settled, because the strong sales of both Dishonored & Deus Ex:HR and Bioshock (i guess) in recent years show that there is an audience out there that is hungry for 'deeper' first person action games than say, CoD & Crysis, etc..
Re: Review: Skylanders Giants (Wii U)
I've never played the game, and i don't really intend to...but, you need 8 of these figurines to see everything in the game.. a meagre 10 hr. 'full-priced' game right?? The Portal of Power is a con that only a game company as cynical and money hungry as Activision could dream up. The figures seem to go for roughly $15 dollars each on ozgameshop. So $60 plus another $120 if you want to see the stuff they're hiding from you..
"Sigh".. Oh well, at least their shareholders will be happy.
Re: ZombiU Producer "Disappointed" By Early Reviews
Re: If Nintendo Ever Made A Mature Zelda, This Is What It Would Look Like
ha ha..kinda looks like Todd Howard. Seems as though he got the Savage Strike perk too.
Re: Wii U Version Of 007 Legends Canned In Australia
Re: Review: ZombiU (Wii U)
Also, the combat itself doesn't look much fun.
Re: GoldenEye 007 Wii Dev Suffers Major Job Losses
Re: Ubisoft Uplay App On The Way To Wii U
Re: Miyamoto Puzzled As To Why Anyone Would Want A New F-Zero
Well, I admire his attiude. Lord knows there are enough publishers who are happy to release the same game every year or two, and simply slap a higher digit on at the end of the title.
Still, looking at a game like Pikmin 3, how is that evolving from Pikmin 2?? It looks a similar game to me with HD graphics. NSMB isn't exactly breaking new territory either. So, it's sort of a strange comment to make in the context of what Nintendo are actually releasing.
Re: Feature: Nintendo's Presidential Candidates
Good lord, I hope Herman Cain isn't reading this article. Don't give the man ideas. Because he actually WILL invoke Bowser as inspiration for the formulation of domestc policy if he has another tilt at the presidency..
Re: Nintendo Teams Up With Disney For "Wii U Showdown"
What's even worse than this ad, is the realization that some of these kids are going to be flooding the airwaves and music TV with their godawful pre-fabricated pop music in the coming years. They are the stars of tomorrow..
Responsible parents would simply bar their children from watching the Disney channel if they harbour any hopes of them growing up to be interesting, reflective and intelligent adults..
This ad makes me feel almost embarrassed to even want a Wii U.
Re: Talking Point: Games That Need Wii U - World of Warcraft
Re: Wii Owners: Microsoft Wants You To Buy The Xbox 360 This Holiday Season
Re: Watch: First US Wii U Advert Appears
@ei8htbit
yeah i guess... I assume they'll have an ad or two soon that's actually targeted at gamers. It's just a worry after what happened last time that this is how they choose to kick off their advertising campaign in the US. The ad isn't going to sway any Xbox-ers or PS owners who may be on the fence.
Re: Watch: First US Wii U Advert Appears
Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. It's unabashedly pitched at families, young kids and casuals. If Wii U is supposed to be a system for 'everyone'... where were the people playing games like Darksiders 2, Pikmin, Zombi... they could've shown a short snippet of Bayonetta 2 perhaps etc..
It's things like this that make me wonder what Nintendo's long term strategy with this console is, and whether or not gamers are actually a part of that strategy..
Re: Wii U Set To Embark On Nationwide Tour Of Australia
Hmmm...Is this anything like the Jimi Hendrix Experience? Sounds fun, but Fountain Gate is Kath & Kim territory. No thanks..
Re: Feature: Nintendo Life's Top 20 Wii Games
Red Steel 2 was decent, if somewhat flawed..had a nice art style i guess. Probably could've been there in place of a couple of those Wii Sports titles..
Re: Talking Point: The Message in "I'm Not a Gamer" Commercials
My name is doctor doak, and i'm not a gamer. With my middle of the road gaming PC I 'didn't' build myself, I'm a pretender.
Re: Award Winning Short Film Shows the Power of Zelda and Escapism
@ThreadShadow
Re: Award Winning Short Film Shows the Power of Zelda and Escapism
Great film.. I think its something many kids can relate to. You don't expect that sort of psychological abuse to continue happening to you as an adult, but often it seems as though it does. There's basically a lot of horrible people in this world it seems unfortunately..
Re: MCV: Wii U Is A Stopgap System, Real Successor Is Still To Come
There is no way this system is a stop gap.
Re: Talking Point: Affordable Consoles Come at a Cost
Re: Nintendo Responds To Foxconn's Admission Of Guilt In Child Labour Scandal
Foxconn are only apologizing because its made international headlines. Unfortunately, these kind of transgressions appear to be the norm.
Re: Nintendo Responds To Foxconn's Admission Of Guilt In Child Labour Scandal
They are guidelines, which means they do not have the force of the law at their back. So what are the consequences for transgressing? And what constitutes a transgression in a country with weak to non-existent labour laws?? It's not clear. I think you'd find most corporations who've moved their production to China proclaim to practice CSR in one shape or another. What that actually means for the protection of and compliance with human rights norms in practice is anyone's guess.
Re: Under-Age Workers Allegedly Worked on Wii U Manufacturing
Re: Talking Point: Games That Need Wii U - Dishonored
@accc
Re: Archos Uses Star Fox And Mario To Demo Its Console-Killing Tablet
There is no way Nintendo would sell their titles to Android and undermine their own hardware sales.
It's not going to appeal to people who play games on their phones, it's not going to appeal to people who play 3DS. It's a substitute for tablet/handheld gaming. It sort of looks like a Vita, but why would you buy this thing when you could buy a 3DS that actually has quality 1st party titles on it?
Re: Talking Point: Games That Need Wii U - Dishonored
@ThomasBW84
Re: Retro Studios Gets a Bigger Office
Hopefully this equates to an increase in titles for the Wii U from them..
Re: Rumour: Square Enix Triple-A Title Being Ported to Wii U
Deus ex?? Thi4f???
Re: Talking Point: Games That Need Wii U - Dishonored
Re: Justin Bieber Surprises Just Dance 4 Fans
Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! OH MY GOD!!! lol at the girl having the panic attack..
Apparently UbiSoft made him punch in authentication codes for every door he had to pass through in the building, and then pass a retinal scan and a lie detector test before doing that promo.
Re: Sonic Racing Transformed Frame Rate Issues Have Been Solved
Excellent. Was disappointed to hear how shoddy the early build was. This will satiate my kart racer appetite.
Re: Reggie: Big Guns Focusing on Future Wii U Projects
Well, if Wikipedia is to be trusted as a reliable source, you'd have to think that Retro are working on a successor to the Metroid Prime series. I mean if they've hired staff from Vigil and ID Software, Vigil make the Darksiders games which have the sort of big open areas and puzzle solving elements of Metroid, and ID Software are really only known for making first person shooters. So unless Zelda's being transformed into an FPS, you'd have to think that the staff hirings point towards a Metroid Prime type of game. Also, it's apparently "a project everyone wants us to do". So.....
Re: Ubisoft: Wii U Is The Most Innovative System On Earth
Well, he's obviously got an interest in pumping up the Wii U's tyers considering Ubi have made a pretty heavy software investment in the machine. Still, I think it's kinda cool. I prefer what they're trying to do with this over the Wii.
Re: Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed Lines Up On Wii U Starting Grid
Getting this for the Wii U. Reminds me so much of Diddy Kong Racing N64. Gotta get it!
Re: Nintendo: Wii U Basic Bundle Designed To Attract Core Gamers
I find it weird how there's this stigma against having a 'white' console.. Like you're not a 'core' gamer unless you have the black console I don't get it..
It is a bit weird they don't give you the choice, i'm sure they will later on. I would probably choose the black one if I had a choice...but it's not something that really bothers me. Now if it was 'pink', then we have a problem
Re: Nintendo: Wii U Basic Bundle Designed To Attract Core Gamers
@3dbrains
Assassins Creed 3. Even though it hasn't released yet...
Re: Nintendo: Wii U Basic Bundle Designed To Attract Core Gamers
Re: Rumour: Grand Theft Auto V Coming To Wii U
Yeah, I think its bogus.
The only comment i've heard from Rockstar was something along the lines that they weren't targeting the Wii U, because they doubted they'd have an audience on the console.
Re: Talking Point: Five Reasons to Buy a Wii U
@Voodoo
Re: Ex-Rare Staffer: Exodus Wouldn't Have Happened Under Nintendo
@Gamer83
