It is possible we will see no Watch Dogs or Project Cars on Wii U, there was no gameplay footage shown so far on this platform, no proof of it's existence, all videos presented were made on PC, strange when you consider Project Cars was crowd-funded, people raised 3.750.000 € to start this project! Hope dies last... Looks like all third party support for Wii U is gone.
I might be wrong but hackers probably won't make homebrew for Wii U anytime soon because of it's small install base, it's just too much work, and even if they did, do you believe pirates will want to download 25 GB games from the internet? Would you risk softmod for your Wii U when permanent bricking is a real possibility? There are no tools to dump and backup your system memory so far, it's one way road, if anything goes wrong, there is no way to unbrick... It's not such big deal if you brick old Wii bought seconhand for 50 bucks, but would you risk your 300 euro Wii U? Most people won't.
Great, that means that by the end of this year there will be approx. 100 Wii U games on disc and approx. 200 in e-shop, no software drought this time. You should add Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty and Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath to your list.
To claim that majority of Wii owners are upgrading to PS4 is quite cocky. I am sure there must be some people who "upgrade" from PS3 to Wii U too... Also the word "upgrade" is not exactly right. The fact that I bought Wii U or PS4 does not mean I throw my old Wii out of the window, vice versa, I can still use both systems and because one is connected by HDMI and the other by AV-in cable it is easy to use them together on the same TV. Old Wii is "Godsend" if you have children. None of "next gen" consoles can match old Wii-s line-up of games for children so far. It's best to own all consoles but who has money and time to do it. In my opinion it is most economic to buy Wii U for Nintendo exclusives and gaming PC for everything else. There are very few Sony/Microsoft exclusives that you can not play on PC. By the way, it is funny that highest rated PC videogames of all time are mostly 5-15 years old titles which you can play on cheap 400$ PC, you simply don't need expensive cutting edge gaming PC to play gems like Bioshock or Portal. What I am trying to say: don't waste your money on PS4, you can get "decent versatile" PC for that amount of money, you can play Battlefield 3 on AMD A8-6500 APU without a problem.
Zombie_Barioth, interesting numbers, I looked at that report, it might be interesting to compare consoles to gaming PC too. Power usage of 750 watt gaming PC turned on for 24 hours: 10 amps X 110 volts = 1,100 watts x 24 hours = cca 26,400 watts = 26.4 Kwh/24 hours ! Computer doesn't run on 100% all the time of course, but still it is scary number.
It is not that simple, how can you compare 8-core Jaguar HD 7870 APU in PS4/XBO and 3-core Espresso HD 6670 in Wii U? It is like to compare 3-cylinder and 8-cylinder petrol engine. Some consoles are more powerful than others and that is why they need more electricity: PS4 is capable approx. of 1.84 teraflops, XBO 1.1 teraflops, Wii U 360 gigaflops, PS3 218 gigaflops an Xbox360 115 gigaflops... You should calculate computing power/power consumption ratio to be unbiased. Gamepad is another problem, it also needs power from somewhere, it has an extra battery and extra LCD... it is not ecologic to produce those. Like it or not but gaming is not ecologic at all no matter what you play on. Wii U uses less energy to run than it's rivals but for a price (less computing power). By the way did you know that Wii U CPU Espresso is just enhanced (higher clock speed + more cache) Gekko CPU from GameCube x3?
Wow, Mushroom Kingdom lacks cultural diversity because Italian plumber Mario is not black and Peach is not a lesbian. Maybe Nintendo should involve Austria's 'bearded lady' Conchita Wurst to make it politically correct.
There are approx. 110 milion households using wii remote everyday and all these criminals infringe Philips know how every day... I guess Philips should sue them too and send them all to jail. I suggest WE BOYCOTT PHILIPS PRODUCTS from today.
In my opinion people who hate Wii U gamepad never tried it seriously. I can not imagine e.g. Lego City or AC4 Black flag without second screen anymore, it makes some games better and more interesting even if it is used just for inventory or a map. I don't think it should be used by every Wii U game, not every game is suitable for second screen but in that case it can simply stay black as in Donkey Kong to save power. I hope we will see more great games using second screen like Zombie U one day. Off TV is another God send feature, TV is often used by someone else when you have family and children.
It looks like we all agree that Wii U marketing is strange, and Nintendo should do more to make it attractive, it will never be bestseller without "must have games", as you said, and if games won't make it, price cut is last option that could improve sales. Sad but true.
Wii has 100 million install base, it would be crazy to ignore this number, gaming business is as any other business, it's goal is to make money, so why not make Wii version too. My children still like old Wii more than Wii U, they really don't count pixels. Wii has some 1300 games, Wii U has 80 so far.
Where is Yarn Yoshi, Lego Hobbit , Oddworld, Child of light, Qube, Teslagrad, Tengami...
I don't think we will see Watchdogs on Wii U, I know it was confirmed but it doesn't make sense.
Wii U has an absolute third-party drought and very few first party games announced, so this game is more than welcome. If every third party developer had Lorne Lannings attitude, Wii U might be a different story. I will buy this game.
I have to confirm that Wii U freezing is not rare updated or not, especially Sonic All-Stars Racing, Splinter cell and AC4. Other games work fine, so it is probably caused by errors in software.
Just imagine world without Wii U, we have 3 "next gen" consoles on the market, all have 8-core AMD CPU and PC-like architecture, all have "classic controller", all have the same third party games... a bit boring in my opinion. I have 2 small children and OFF TV feature is just perfect for this situation, gamepad is what makes Nintendo console different. I can still play even when children want to watch TV. Would there be PS4 Remote Play on PS Vita if there was no such thing on Wii U? I doubt it. So again Nintendo came with new idea which was just copied by others as before (e.g. motion control). Whether you like Nintendo or not you have to accept that they keep innovating and make gaming better even for gamers on other consoles.

Sean Aaron you are absolutely right, what would people actually pirate on this doomed system, those 75 games of which 50% is shovelware? Virtual Wii part of Wii U is hackable since launch and nobody really cares... Why would people bother to hack Wii U when they can buy games for 5 euro?
Nintendo versions of Mutant Mudds have sold better than those on other systems, and that is why there is no Mutant Mudds Deluxe on european Wii U e-shop, makes sense to me.
"New to Wii U?" Guide:
1. don't expect strong CPU
2. don't expect strong GPU
3. don't expect third party support
4. don't expect more than one first party game per 6 months
5. don't expect any discount or price cut
6. expect a lot of cancellations, delays, apologies and promises...
Nintendo marketing in Europe is one big catastrophy. When you see messy nintendo shelf in an average european brick and mortar shop one has to wonder: who the ... is responsible? Does that company have someone who checks how their shelve look like at all? Mislabeled products, the same product at 5 places with 5 different prices, confusion between Wii, Wii mini and Wii U, misinformed shop assistants telling consumers absolute nonsense... and it is all crowned by broken (or turned off) demonstration of their awsome hardware (Wii U or 3DS) which you can "try for free".
1780 new Wii U units sold in one place in one day!!! Which means just one thing: Wii U is absolutely overpriced and there should have been a price cut looong time ago, especially after all those negative numbers from last weeks. But noooo, Satoru Iwata says company has no plans to reduce price... As I said many times before, if "Nintendon't" can't do it, market can do it (You can't stop market by ignoring it). There are just two things that can save Wii U: correct price and decent games.
I disagree with Mr. Iwata about Wii U price, it's price is not right, it is absolutely overpriced for what it offers and price cut would solve many of it's problems. To ask 225 USD for second-hand system is simply crazy. Total Wii U production cost estimate made by hardware expert is approx 228USD (170 euro). But as many times before if Nintendo can't do it, market will do it. I bought new Wii U for 149 one year ago, and I already saw it for 99 in one shop during Xmass and people went crazy to get it for that price! It might be good option for tight budget families but not for current price.
I purchased 31 Wii U retail games + 9 eshop games last year, dear Nintendo, but I really think this is too little too late. It is too late to offer "Flexible Price Points" for Wii U Games because your Wii U games sell for 9 euro. If Iwata can´t do it, market can do it... By the way I orderd some products from Club Nintendo for my points, when I received nothing I complained at [email protected], no reply, no apology, they didn't bother to restore points back to my account, but they still sent me an email survey about "club nintendo satisfaction"... It took me just two hours to transfer club nintendo codes to PC, so much about rewarding loyal fans.
What saved 3DS? Price cut and games. Only the same can save Wii U, but the question is can they do it? What are real production costs of Wii U? Many Wii U games sell under 10 euro now, some go for 5 !!! (AC3, Tekken Tag, Ninja Gaiden, Zombie U, Darksiders, Batman, Spiderman, Mass Effect, Rayman, NBA 2k13, Nintendo Land, Your Shape Fitness bla bla bla) That means developers don't make any money from their games... You can not keep console alive if it is sold under production costs and games sell for 10 euro!
What saved 3DS? Pricedrop and nice games. The same works for Wii U. All they have to do is decrease price and produce killer applications... Easy to say, hard to do, of course. But they accomplished it before, so there is still som hope left.
I bought Wii U for 149 euro in carrefour one year ago, there are many games for Wii U for 10 euro right now in some big shops (e.g. Zombie U, Nintendo Land, AC 3, Darksiders in Metro) and some for just 5 euro (e.g. Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2013 in Media Markt)
I think David Jaffe is absolutely right. Would we as customers have something new and innovative if Nintendo just play it safe and won't take any risk? Would we like Nintendo console being just powerful copy of PS, PC or tablet without motion control, 3D or second screen? I don't think so. For me both Wii U and 3DS are cool products just because they offer different experience. I don't care that Nintendo hardware is not cutting edge science, it's still fun to play, I already have 30 nice games for WiiU and 40 for 3DS, plus some from eshop. For haters: I never said PS4 or XBOX ONE are bad products, just different.
Who the hell is this "industry analyst"? Is it the same person who predicted 3DS will fail? The same person who predicted in March 2009 that we were in the “last generation of consoles” (before the Wii U, PS4, and Xbox One were announced)? I don't say everything about Nintendo is right but Michael Pachter is not someone who's opinions should be taken seriously. What did this person achieve? In his own words: "I don't think I've gone a week without having an incorrect prediction".
Can someone explain this to me, please. There are two games named Toki Tori in Wii U eshop. First one was for 2 euro. I downloaded that. I purchased the second one 10 minutes later later for e.g. 4 euro (40%discount). But in my Wii U there is just one new game - named Toki Tori 2+ So is it two games or just one game?
Gaming market has changed because society has changed... Nintendo is not in anymore, it is cool to own iphone, drive mini and play GTA on PS4. If you are young person It is important for your social status to own PS4. Wii U is simply victim of this phenomenon. Mature people do understand it is great device for gaming but majority of people won't buy it because it is not fashionable to own one. I like Nintendo exactly because they refuse to change under pressure and because they do things their own way. RESPECT.
How do I activate this Patch, I play Sonic Lost World right now and there is no patch in my Wii U, I thought it should start automatically when you are connected to internet but it doesn't.
Beautiful game, sadly it does not appeal to many people, it's not cool to play "games for little children" anymore, it is cool to kill photorealistically these days. Who knows maybe one day a miracle will happen and people will have enough of blood and violence and they will like nice games again. Anyway thank you Nintendo for this gem.
A long time ago I received a looong survey from Nintendo where they asked a lot of questions about my satisfaction with their new Wii Fit Meter. Dear Nintendo I have Wii Fit U software installed for months and I have never ever seen any Wii Fit Meter in european store. It is crazy to ask customers about something Nintendo is unable to provide. I guess one day Mr. Iwata will tell his investors Wii U failed because customers are stupid and didn't buy... Well, you can only buy things that are in shops, sorry.
I have 2 small children and I have to admit Wii U is very children friendly and they like it a lot. Wii U is more universal compared to PS4, children can have their Lego City or Skylanders while father can have his AC4 or Ghosts, while mom can have her Wii Fit and YouTube... Adult FPS are better on PS4 of course but what would children play on it? So if you don't want to buy 2 consoles Wii U is better option for family. Some Wii U games are dirty cheap, e.g. I bought Darksiders for 9 euro and AC3 for 17 euro. OFF TV is also great feature for family because you can watch your football while your children can still play their games. Game line up is acceptable right now, so the only problem that remains is console price. There should be price cut, 300 is too much for tight family budget. I know it won't cover production cost but maybe people will repay it on games. I paid just 149 euro for Wii U but slowly I bought games for approx. 800 euro (damn those skylanders are expensive...) It doesn't hurt so much psychologically to throw away 40 euro once a month for a good game but it hurts a lot to explain to your wife why you spent 300 euro on new wii u.
Society is sick and games industry is just mirror of society. When games like GTA V are cool and 3D Mario is not something is wrong with this world, sorry. I have 2 children and I can not imagine what on earth would they play if there was no Wii or Wii U. I don´t care whether Nintendo is third on the market or last... my children love it. The fact that majority of gamers want gore and violence is not my problem. I can assure you that our family will play on Nintendo next Christmas.
I was in many shops e.g. Carrefour, Cora, Metro, Media Markt... most people I have seen complain about Wii U price and most families opt for Wii mini... it makes sense, small children don't care about HD and old games for Wii are cheap and plentiful... Nintendo made big mistake by selling Wii, Wii mini and Wii U at the same time. Production of Wii should have been stopped before Wii U came to market. I also noticed one strange thing, most shops do not have new Wii U games, you won't find 3D Mario, Deus Ex or AC4... crazy, on one hand Nintendo wants to sell and on the other hand games are not in shops... I would fire Nintendo marketing manager immediately.
I remember how they published something about Wii U being doomed not a long time ago, where they called Wind Waker game "windwalker" so they are obviously experts... there was also something about saving Wii U by relaunching it without gamepad and other clever ideas. Sadly most people know nothing about Wii U and how it works. My sister bought her 6 and 8 years old children PS3 5 days ago, when she asked about Wii U, shop assistant told her it's a toy for very small children... There is just one way how to change all these misperceptions and that is advertising. Marketing of Wii U is one big disaster here in Europe, sorry.
I hate these wars "who is better bigger stronger"... Let everybody buy what they like... I have 2 children and I can not imagine other console for them but Wii or Wii U. What would they play on PS4? But if you are 18 and love to shoot aliens go on and buy 8-core whatever and enjoy... Each console has it's own market place and I do not see Wii U as failure, it found some customers who feel satisfied. I might be wrong but some people will have enough of GTA one day and Wii U might be their refreshing new discovery.
I can not imagine Wii U without gamepad, my children prefer off TV play for most games, there is just one they play on TV - Lego city. The only thing that could be changed is to allow gamepad control for old Wii games (for those which don't use motion control). I know it is not easy to achieve because wii remote is bluetooth and gamepad is wifi but there has to be some way to do it. Wii U might have been more powerful of course.
I was in shop to get AC 4 today and there was young family deciding what to buy to their children, first they touched 150 euro overpriced old Wii, then looked at 3DS, and finaly they opted for Wii mini because it was cheapest... They didn't even stop at Wii U shelf. By the way, no they did not have AC 4 for Wii U, as they don't have Deus Ex or any other recent Wii U games, shops just stoped ordering Wii U games because they can't get rid of unsold zombies and nintendolands... some Wii U games have pricetag 9 euro and don't move... Mr. President what are you smoking?
I do not understand one thing, on one hand Nintendo wants sales, on the other hand GAMES ARE NOT IN SHOPS!!! Sometimes I feel like I live in another world, I read about new game and how good it is and then I visit shop and it is not there so I can not buy it, it is frustrating to walk through 5 huge shops and not to find what you are looking for. Try to find Deus Ex, Mass Effect or Skylanders SWAP Force for Wii U in capital european city with 1.2 milion inhabitants...
It was supposedly released one month ago in Europe but you just won't find it anywhere, I walked 4 biggest computer shops in Brussels yesterday and it's not available anywhere, I know I can download it from e-shop, but still where is the physical copy?
Happy Birthday. There is a system update to 4.0.2 and there are 9 new demo-versions for download: Sonic Lost World Monster Hunter 3 Wonderful 101 Resident Evil Revelations The Cave Zombie U FIFA 13 Trine 2 Chasing Aurora
I consider myself big nintendo fan, I own 9 nintendo consoles but still I am very pessimistic about Wii U-s future because support for this device is absolutely strange, everytime I read about some new game for Wii U I run to shop to get it and it just isn't there, so I try another shop and it's the same story. I had problems to find physical copies of Pikmin 3, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Mass Effect 3, COD Ghosts or Duck Tales in capital european city which has a population of 1.2 million people!!! When Splinter cell was released they had ONE single copy!!! Nintendo department is just full of unsold Zombies and Nintendo lands for reduced prices. This is not the way how to make a product successful. Customer support is another story, I ordered some stuff from nintendo club, they confirmed my order and withdrew points from my account but it never arrived! So I complained to [email protected] They didn't bother to reply! Are they so dumb or arrogant or just stupid? I don't know but I'm sure I don't like this approach as a customer.

Re: Nintendo Planning to Offer "Flexible Price Points" for Games
Re: Review: Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams (Wii U eShop)
This game has no sound in OFF TV mode, crazy idea...
Re: Mass Market Price And Mario Kart 8 Will Reverse The Wii U's Fortunes, Say UK Retailers
What saved 3DS? Price cut and games. Only the same can save Wii U, but the question is can they do it? What are real production costs of Wii U? Many Wii U games sell under 10 euro now, some go for 5 !!! (AC3, Tekken Tag, Ninja Gaiden, Zombie U, Darksiders, Batman, Spiderman, Mass Effect, Rayman, NBA 2k13, Nintendo Land, Your Shape Fitness bla bla bla)
That means developers don't make any money from their games... You can not keep console alive if it is sold under production costs and games sell for 10 euro!
Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's 'Relevance' Is About Sales, Nintendo's Strategy Has Remained Consistent
What saved 3DS? Pricedrop and nice games. The same works for Wii U. All they have to do is decrease price and produce killer applications... Easy to say, hard to do, of course. But they accomplished it before, so there is still som hope left.
Re: UK Retailer Argos Drops Wii U Premium to £179.99
I bought Wii U for 149 euro in carrefour one year ago, there are many games for Wii U for 10 euro right now in some big shops (e.g. Zombie U, Nintendo Land, AC 3, Darksiders in Metro) and some for just 5 euro (e.g. Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2013 in Media Markt)
Re: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata "Has Earned The Right To Fail", Says David Jaffe
Re: Nintendo Has "Great Games" But Is Facing A "Structural Problem", According To Industry Analysts
Re: News: Nintendo Dominates Japanese Charts At Christmas
But Pachter said... I am just joking... spread the news, those games are great!
Re: Review: Toki Tori (Wii U eShop)
Can someone explain this to me, please. There are two games named Toki Tori in Wii U eshop. First one was for 2 euro. I downloaded that. I purchased the second one 10 minutes later later for e.g. 4 euro (40%discount). But in my Wii U there is just one new game - named Toki Tori 2+ So is it two games or just one game?
Re: Nintendo Reiterates Confidence That the Wii U Can Compete
Gaming market has changed because society has changed... Nintendo is not in anymore, it is cool to own iphone, drive mini and play GTA on PS4. If you are young person It is important for your social status to own PS4. Wii U is simply victim of this phenomenon. Mature people do understand it is great device for gaming but majority of people won't buy it because it is not fashionable to own one. I like Nintendo exactly because they refuse to change under pressure and because they do things their own way. RESPECT.
Re: Sonic Lost World Gets Patched Up On Wii U
How do I activate this Patch, I play Sonic Lost World right now and there is no patch in my Wii U, I thought it should start automatically when you are connected to internet but it doesn't.
Re: Digital Foundry Heaps Praise on Super Mario 3D World
Beautiful game, sadly it does not appeal to many people, it's not cool to play "games for little children" anymore, it is cool to kill photorealistically these days. Who knows maybe one day a miracle will happen and people will have enough of blood and violence and they will like nice games again. Anyway thank you Nintendo for this gem.
Re: Fit Meter Iwata Asks Outlines Panasonic Partnership and Moving Beyond Pedometers
Re: Retail Company Rakuten Highlights the Wii U and iPad as Most Talked About Children's Presents
Re: Former Sony Developer Feels The Wii U "Won't See Another Christmas"
Society is sick and games industry is just mirror of society. When games like GTA V are cool and 3D Mario is not something is wrong with this world, sorry. I have 2 children and I can not imagine what on earth would they play if there was no Wii or Wii U. I don´t care whether Nintendo is third on the market or last... my children love it. The fact that majority of gamers want gore and violence is not my problem. I can assure you that our family will play on Nintendo next Christmas.
Re: Poll: Nintendo and the Wii U Fight For Your Attention in This Busiest of Gaming Months
Re: Ashes Cricket 2013 Officially Cancelled as 505 Games Issues Apology
it is listed here as being out on the market

Re: Investment Site Motley Fool Executes Spectacular U-Turn By Claiming Nintendo Will Win This Christmas
Re: New York Times Critic Identifies Super Mario 3D World and Wii U as Highlights of the Season
Re: Talking Point: The GamePad and its Role Defining the Wii U
I can not imagine Wii U without gamepad, my children prefer off TV play for most games, there is just one they play on TV - Lego city. The only thing that could be changed is to allow gamepad control for old Wii games (for those which don't use motion control). I know it is not easy to achieve because wii remote is bluetooth and gamepad is wifi but there has to be some way to do it. Wii U might have been more powerful of course.
Re: Reggie Talks Up Wii U Blockbusters As Top 10 Sellers Across the Whole Generation
Re: DFC Intelligence Lowers Wii U Lifetime Sales Forecast, But Supports Holiday Releases and Strategy
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut
It was supposedly released one month ago in Europe but you just won't find it anywhere, I walked 4 biggest computer shops in Brussels yesterday and it's not available anywhere, I know I can download it from e-shop, but still where is the physical copy?
Re: Happy Birthday, Wii U - You're One Today
Happy Birthday. There is a system update to 4.0.2 and there are 9 new demo-versions for download:
Sonic Lost World
Monster Hunter 3
Wonderful 101
Resident Evil Revelations
The Cave
Zombie U
FIFA 13
Trine 2
Chasing Aurora
Re: Review: Call of Duty: Ghosts (Wii U)
So it gets the same rating as Turbo: Super Stunt Squad, wow
Re: Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of the 'New Gen' Environment for Wii U?
