While the recommended retail price for the Wii U Deluxe model in the U.S. is currently $299.99, that hasn't stopped some less expensive alternatives emerging. Just recently we had a crazily good deal from Newegg of the Wind Waker HD hardware bundle and two games for just $269.99, and now potential Wii U owners in the U.S. have another offer to consider.
Just over a week ago we reported that Nintendo of America was offering refurbished Wii U Deluxe sets for $250 on its official online store. It's now temporarily reduced that price further to $225. There could be "minor cosmetic blemishes", but Nintendo provides a guarantee that the hardware will work as expected, and as they're Deluxe models eShop purchases on them will be eligible for the Nintendo Network Premium promotion. Below is what's included at the price.
- Wii U console (Black/32GB Internal Storage)
- Wii U GamePad (Black)
- Nintendo Land game disc
- Wii U AC Adapter
- Wii U GamePad AC Adapter
- High Speed HDMI Cable
- Sensor Bar
The only real limitation is that the console itself can't be redeemed for coins on Club Nintendo.
It's unclear how long these refurbished units will be available at this new lower price in the U.S. Do you think this is a good deal?
Thanks to Ntabruzzo for the tip.

This is a really good business decision but I have never seen a company from the "Big Three" do this. Maybe I am just young....
Great idea nintendo, just advertise the price so that people know that you're selling this.
More discounted Wiius. Great time to buy if you're on the fence. Also, Nintendo looks to be banking it's profits on selling software.
Nice
I wish we get an ambassador program for Wii U launch owners
@Tsuzura This is for refurbished Wii U's. We don't need compensation.
Like I said before, the deals they are a coming. Not sure how great this is for used when$75 more gets you both Mario and Luigi but if you dont want those games this works.
In Target today they had 4 of the Mario bundles, they were on the bottom shelf under the 3 Wii Mini boxes. Besides the Mini not helping the Wii U any having MKW bundled with it cant help MK8 sales any. Hopefully it will disappear before then.
nice
@Tsuzura We already had the Wii U equivalent, the 30th Anniversary Famicom event.
Should have launched at 200 dollars flat-- that would have really appealed to the cheaper parents out there. That'd make it much cheaper than the other two consoles out there.
But I honestly think the moment they announce a LOZ game for the Wii-u will be its rebirth. I'm not a LOZ fan, but lets be honest, it sure moves product.
Aw, but I really do want the coins XD
guess I'll keep saving for the m/l bundle(if its still available by the time I saved up for it)
And now it matches the price I paid for the Mario and Luigi Deluxe Set, new.
Also, this refurbished set comes with a one year warranty, just like the consoles sold new.
If you live in Canada keep an eye on the weekly sales at Chapters/Indigo. I got my 2nd Wii U Wind Waker Limited Edition for only $201 CDN plus tax. Chapters/ Indigo was selling it for $210 and I went to Best Buy to price matched plus 10% of the difference. You can price match from Canadian Best Buy, FutureShop and ToysRUs plus 10% of the price difference.
@CrazyOtto Yeah but we still had to pay for it. I know it was only 30 cents but the idea of the ambassador program was that the games are free.
buy a new one
@ThomasBW84 Have you thought of doing an article on Nintendo's refurbishment process? I think it would be really interesting to find out. I generally avoid used hardware, but certain companies like Apple replace so much of the product it's really like new.
You can buy second hand wii u's for £100
I disagree with Mr. Iwata about Wii U price, it's price is not right, it is absolutely overpriced for what it offers and price cut would solve many of it's problems. To ask 225 USD for second-hand system is simply crazy. Total Wii U production cost estimate made by hardware expert is approx 228USD (170 euro). But as many times before if Nintendo can't do it, market will do it. I bought new Wii U for 149 one year ago, and I already saw it for 99 in one shop during Xmass and people went crazy to get it for that price! It might be good option for tight budget families but not for current price.
@DJSmith99 And exclusive, for a time.
@DJSmith99
Of course you like "free". But keep in mind, nobody in this world owes us anything. The 3DS ambassador program was unprecedented. They did it because they dropped the price by 30% mere MONTHS after launch. That would be like dropping the Wii U price to $250 brand new from $350 only months after launch. THAT could cause some waves with people who paid full price. But it's long past being a few months old. And the price drop we saw was only a 15% reduction, nearly a year after launch.
@Boxmonkey Where from? Never seeb them that cheap
It's nice to hear those discounts, I wonder when will the shops drop its price from USD$470 to what it really must be here in Mexico.
Still, I'm glad I got it at launch, I've had so much fun. It cost me $520 only.
