This game is actually really fun. I wrote a review of it on the blog I contribute to. Admittedly, I was one of the people who wasn't into the Mario Kart elements, but I still like this game. When the demo comes out, give it a try.
I'm glad that they're being more consistent with VC releases. I just wish they'd put out something I'd want to buy. I already have Magical Drop III on the Data East Arcade Classics and Fighter's History just plain sucks. C'mon, Nintendo, where the hell is Contra?
While I'm not a Mario Party fan, I'm glad to see the VC back in business. It's been so long since the classic games had any love.
I am a huge Dragon's Lair fan, though. I have the 20th Anniversary Special Edition DVD, so I don't need a DSiWare version, but I recommend the games to anyone who's interested in the nostalgia of the old arcades.
Ah, I have... memories of this game. I used to hear the soundtrack of this game booming in my head while I had nightmares (probably because my younger brother played it while I slept). I can never look at this game without regressing back to that frightened little boy with fevered dreams of being stranded on that hostile alien world.
Forget survival horror games. This is the only game that really scared the crap out of me.
According to Twin Galaxies, Mitchell achieved both high scores with a referee as witness, so he did it live.
One thing that wasn't mentioned here: did you know that Mitchell did not take the Donkey Kong Jr. record from Wiebe? Mark Kiehl actually topped Wiebe's high score a couple of months ago in an arcade in my home state, Missouri. Not that big of a deal, now, though.
I remember the Scribblenauts giveaway that Dragoon mentioned above. When I picked up my pre-ordered copy, the guy at the counter said they only received one Rooster Cap, and the guy claimed it for himself. That's a load of crap. I don't know how good they are at giving you the pre-order bonus online, but, if you're pre-ordering Sonic Colors at a physical Gamestop location, don't expect them to hand over that hat to you.
I'm not opposed to using a long sword and this does look beautiful... but I would have to multiply my hunter rank by 10 to even try this quest out. It sucks that I only have one friend who plays this game and he doesn't even play that much, since he resubscribed to WoW. Why pay to play online when you can have all the online monster hunting action you want for free?
I say this again, no one asked for a control scheme that utilizes your entire body. No, Kinect isn't the successor to the Wii. It's a cheap knock off of the technology in Minority Report.
By the way, when this guy was talking about Kinect at the E3 Microsoft conference, my first question was, "Who let this pedophile on the stage?"
Leave it to Nintendo to make fabric so appealing. This is both so adorable and jaw-dropping impressive at the same time. I would be out of my mind not to buy this.
My question is who exactly asked for Kinect's technology? I mean, making certain motions with a Wiimote is fine, but when you actually have to move and position your entire body for extended periods of time... that just sounds uncomfortable to me.
I think people found this technology fascinating, but it's completely impractical when it comes to gaming. Why the hell would anyone want to use their bodies as a controller? If I'm going to drop any amount of cash for a "controller," I want something I can hold in my hands.
I'm going to be the odd man out when I say I'm not interested in the 3DS. I've been waiting for the DSXL to have colors other than "drab" and "mysterious brown stain." Blue is a good color for me. I'll definitely buy one of these.
I'm not terribly concerned about region locking. It's not that important for me to play with people all over the world and contend with the language barriers inherent in such a venture. I'm content with keeping it in the US.
Even though I'm focusing on single player until I get further and some of my friends pick up the game, this is a great tool for us hunters out there. Now, we can plan our hunts ahead of time.
When I saw the video for this game on the Nintendo Channel, with all those people impotently flailing their hands about, I knew something was terribly wrong.
What I didn't know was that this was made by the guys who made (ruined?) Dragon Master Spell Caster. For some reason, Stickmen Studios seem to take interesting game concepts and turn them into useless shovelware. What they need to rethink is their career path, because video game design is getting them nowhere.
This game kinda fell under the radar for me after I found out about Monster Hunter Tri, but I'm still highly interested in it. It's amazing that this is the first Sakura Wars game to make it outside of Japan. The last game I played with a dating sim worked into it was Thousand Arms for the PS1, which was made by the same studio.
The one thing that put me on the fence between the PS2 and the Wii versions was the quality of the english dubbing. I'm glad to hear that it was done well. The rest of the game looks great. Once I get an opportunity, I'm picking this one up. Great review.
Like half the people here, I got mine with Montser Hunter Tri. This thing is dead sexy and feels a lot better than the old Classic Controller.
I love how the shoulder buttons are not only arranged better, but they also don't have that annoying "squishy" feel when you press down on them. I remember damn near killing my trigger finger from rapidly pushing down the R button on the old CC while playing Heavy Barrel on Data East Arcade Classics.
I loved these games. Sadly, this port won't have the same feel as it did in the arcades. There's nothing like holding a big gun and feeling the heavy recoil as you blasted those robots. Still, I'm looking forward to this.
I'm glad I picked up this game, though I had to travel 45 miles to get it. It's hard to find in my area.
@Machu: Don't worry, there's plenty of the fairer sex to court, even marry. Sadly, all the really hot ones are taken. I so wanted to have an affair with the innkeeper's wife.
Man, I just woke up, so my April Fool's senses weren't in full swing.
It wasn't until you mentioned the Neo Geo Pocket Color that this ruse took on a cruel twist. I mean, I still have my old NGPC, but the thought of playing those games on a backlit screen is sooooooo enticing.
As it stands, you have toyed with my emotions and I now I don't know if I can ever love again (sob).
I agree with Sean. This game made me want to watch the anime.
This is THE best air combat game for the Wii, hands down and is well worth every one of those 30 dollars. The action is great, the story is compelling, the music is wonderful, and the motion controls are top notch. Project Aces were locked on with this one.
@Shiryu - An awesome, unlockable plane, eh? I'm gonna have to go back for that. Thanks for the heads up.
While this game may not rank up there with Bit.Trip Beat or Cave Story, It does look like a fun diversion that you would find in something like WiiPlay. For 80 coins, it's worth trying out. I actually remember taking a survey on Club Nintendo where they asked what I would like to see the club do in the future. I told them that they should do what Japan did and offer exclusive WiiWare games, like this one, for coins. I'm glad they did. Hopefully, we'll see more Club Nintendo WiiWare games in the future.
This is my all time favorite FF game. The ending of FF VI was a buzzkill for me.
If it weren't for the fact that I own this game thrice over (DS, PS1, and my original SNES copy), I'd buy this. Instead, I'll heartily recommend it to any fantasy RPG fans.
@Chunky Droid: Cecil's not a bad name for a fantasy character. At least his name is not Snow...
I'm kind of torn as to whether I want the PS2 version or the Wii version more.
@Oregano: According to Amazon (US) and GameStop, the premium PS2 version is $10 more than the Wii version. The regular PS2 version of the game may be cheaper, but won't have the Japanese language version of the game. It doesn't even look like anyone will be carrying the regular PS2 version, anyway.
I must say, I am impressed with how far Ghostfire went out of their way to insist on a $10 price point.
If this game does turn out to be great, I still would not mind paying $15 for it, if it will support quality game developers. Maybe I'll send them a $5 check in the mail...
The real "deal-breaker" will be paying 1500 points for a crappy game and the jury is still out on that. If the game is awesome, I'll have no problem shelling out the cash.
That said, I will need some assurance that this game is awesome, so I'm definitely waiting until the staff here reviews it.

I didn't even realize that Hank got the record again. Last time I checked, Billy Mitchell reclaimed the title. Interesting.

I like it. The fact that it's absolutely free is just gravy.

Relaxing, my ass! It's Wii updates like this that actually frustrate me more. Another aquarium simulator and a "massage" game? Come on!

Bejeweled? Really?! I'm so sick of that damn game. At least I have Shadow of the Ninja to make this week not suck for the Wii. Yay, VC!

Re: Nintendo Download: 10th May 2010 (North America)
If I had a DSi, I would immediately get Photo Dojo and Earthworm Jim. I already own the PW games, so this is a disappointing week for the Wii.
Does anybody remember the days when you can choose from three new VC games every week? Anybody?
