I intend to learn my lesson from past experience and let my heart/gut lead me. No more inflexible goals derived from my mind. I'll just take it as it comes and see where the spirit leads.
Usually my name, but recently I started a playthrough of Ocarina of Time with my boys and named him “I farted” to much fanfare. Made the cutscenes something special.
As a Series X/Switch owner I was thrilled that it was coming to ONE of the systems I own. But honestly, I think it only hasn't been revealed for Switch yet because there will be a direct soon. Nintendo tries to maximize the hype train, after all.
I have Gamer's Club Unlocked (20% off all games) which stacks with deals like this so essentially I can get Bravely Default and Kirby for $32... that is insane.
I need extra controllers too, so now may be the time to go on a ill-advised spending spree.
@Emblem: Ooo let me know how Age of Wonders is - sounds like we have similar taste in games.
I finally picked up Skyrim on PC - used to play it on 360 but sold the 360 - so I'll be playing that in between solving puzzles in Layton 6 and getting my butt handed to me in DKC: Tropical Freeze.
OMG I don't usually buy this kind of stuff, or physical games at all, but given that statue is the BLUE SHELL and my profile pic...I hope this comes to NA!
I keep thinking, since I recently finished Spirit Tracks, been tinkering around in Link's Awakening, and bought Wind Waker HD that I'd be Zelda'd out. But who am I kidding, really? This looks too good to pass up.
Oof. Would love to get Rune Factory if it wasn't sandwiched in the busiest release year ever. Still trying to finish SMTIV and Dream Team before I get Pokemon and A Link Between Worlds. Trying not to buy another game until I finish those two! Surely, I will fail...
Iwata: "We are happy to announce that the only way you can access Pokemon X/Y is by purchasing the Wii U Deluxe bundle that comes with a copy of the game." WUT
WAIT WAIT WAIT. The Wonderful 101 and Wind Waker HD release digitally within 5 days of each other. And NOW A Link Between Worlds and Super Mario 3D World release the same day? I'm torn between rampant joy and dread for my money/free time...
I love how anti-digital peeps love to forget about the disadvantages of physical when trying to justify their decision with "good luck when your system breaks" and "have fun talking to customer service to get your games back." Like I can say "good luck when your disc is scratched and you can't play" or "good luck when you lose your game," etc. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, so let's not pretend. For me, I prefer digital because the pros outweigh the cons and the chances of my Wii U spontaneously combusting are far less than my kids losing or scratching one of our $60 games. And, even if your Wii U breaks, you can get your games back - even if it is currently a broken and annoying system. It'll get better, especially if we support it.
Great article and points. That is what struck me yesterday, the "wow, this is the exact same Mario-Mario Kart 1-2 punch that 3DS got 2 years ago!" As a father with three kids and someone who sold games during the Wii years, I can tell you that the Sonic and Donkey Kong games sold like hotcakes to families. So did Wii Party/Fit. Perhaps even more so than Mario and Mario Kart. This is the perfect lineup to get mainstream families buying Wii Us. I literally watched Nintendo's E3 trailers with my kids last night for like an hour ... it was all stuff that we could all enjoy.
On a lighter note, I was pleasantly surprised with what they showed of Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 ... and after 7 I really wasn't interested in the next Mario Kart. And Wind Waker HD practically stopped my heart. And SMASH BROTHERS. God I loved it all.
People's reactions never cease to baffle me. There were little to no surprises because they have been giving us Nintendo Directs every month. Derp. Just imagine if everything they showed today was the first time they ever mentioned any of it, and they could have thrown in that Earthbound was coming for the first time, etc - people would be losing their minds with excitement.
They practically laid out what they were going to show us ahead of time and they delivered. It seems like people's minds cannot rationalize that and demand an avalanche of new information and reveals to actually be able to process reality. Sad.
Here I was thinking I might pick up a PS3 this year, but it looks like I won't even have the time or money for the Wii U lineup! If these dates come true, I don't think Nintendo's ever released so many must-buy games for me in such a short timeframe (WWHD, Pikmin 3, Mario 3D, Mario Kart). I'm even interested in a few of the third party games, which is quite the feat.
Game & Wario, Mario & Sonic looked surprisingly perfect for my little family. Pikmin 3 just looks more and more amazing every time I see it. Wonderful 101 looks like a must buy as well (though not from today's Direct). Wind Waker HD, Mario Kart, Mario... What lack of games? My wallet is ailing. In Wii's first year, I bought TWO games total. This year I will likely buy at least seven.
I must say I love Nintendo's approach to DLC so far. Their DLC content so far is just extra juicy bits for players who cannot get enough of the main product. Both NSMB2 and Fire Emblem: Awakening have DLC that is both (1) substantial enough to justify extra money and (2) completely optional. Unfortunately, I just don't care enough about the third party games that support DLC, but I want the Wii U to be successful so I hope they bring the goods!
@ExHaseo "You may still use the code you received to download the game for free to play on Wii or Wii U." But it doesn't matter, I wasn't complaining at any rate.
@manu0 @PinkSpider Whoa, I think I accidentally became a troll. Believe it or not, I'm not one of those people who think that game companies owe me anything. I am thrilled to have the game for 30 cents, I just found the situation ironic and mildly amusing,
Ironically, this punishes the biggest of fans, who withheld from spending coins on Super Metroid because they knew that it was coming soon for 30 cents (like me)... but I'm still glad they did it.
Never played a single game in the series, but I have a new found love for puzzlers and, at $10, this is tempting. But first, I MUST complete Spirit Tracks, Crimson Shroud, and Liberation Maiden (and probably Trine 2)!!
100% digital. I lost my lust for clutter long ago. The less I have clogging up the veins of my house, the better.
Also, I have 3 kids under the age of 5. Discs break all the time, no matter what precautions are in place.
I would consider physical for games that aren't up my alley or I'm not sure I'll like for reselling - but I've been far too busy to waste time and money on chances.
I do sometimes miss using gasoline to go to a store, get annoyed by the clerks, refuse their special offers, for the honor of holding plastic. But it's more nostalgic than practical for me at this juncture.
Also, download times for large retail games are a non issue. Start at midnight, go to bed. Lord...
I will either get the Wii U version, the 3DS version, both, or perhaps neither. It's a crowded few months for my gaming budget and time so we'll have to see how things shake out. I may end up getting on Wii U just because I won't have any console games to play come March and I have eShop credit burning a hole in my wallet. Heart of the Swarm, Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion, and this in the span of a month - this is just cruel.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
There needs to be a "Both physical and digital option" on the second poll. I'm getting digital for me and physical for the kids to share.
Re: Talking Point: What Do You Name Link When You're Playing A Zelda Game?
Usually my name, but recently I started a playthrough of Ocarina of Time with my boys and named him “I farted” to much fanfare. Made the cutscenes something special.

Re: Review: Diablo III: Eternal Collection - More Loot Than You Can Shake A Magical Pointy Stick At
Pro tip: single player hardcore is the secret best mode. Seasonal if you can, but I was never consistent enough to reap seasonal rewards.
Adds a whole other dimension to the game and you don’t have to rush around to keep up with your more energetic buddies.
Re: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Update 1.0.2 Adds a Host of Extra Stages for 8-Player Smash
Great news! I have a big family, so 8-player smash is pretty popular around here.

I'm guessing they give us a Fall 2014 timeline and then it comes out in November/December.

I need this game(s) in my life. Right now.
Re: Nintendo Download: 27th February (North America)
Come on, guys, Professor Layton's the best. Miracle Mask is my 3rd most played 3DS game, behind only Fire Emblem: Awakening and Animal Crossing.
Your indifference to this amazing franchise...now THERE'S puzzle worth solving.
Re: Nintendo Download: 21st November (North America)
It's D-Day.
Torn between 3D World, A Link Between Worlds (most likely the former), or waiting until I finish Wind Waker HD and Pokemon X before getting either.
3D Mario games may be my favorite type of game, period, so I'm not sure how long I can hold out.

Re: Feature: Ten Wii U and 3DS Games To Play This Halloween
Will probably pop into Animal Crossing to pass out candy at some point, when I'm not reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
This also tempts me to put down Pokemon X long enough to play a bit of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon...

$50 for the game and a earlier release date for the digital version! Two snippets of good news for me right there.

This kind of game on the 3DS...is what I want. Give me moar!
Re: Nintendo Download: 8th August (North America)
Waiting on DuckTales and iffy on Dream Team after reading Jeremy Parish's review of the game. Too many games this fall, have to be picky.
Honestly, I'm most likely to get Spin the Bottle because it looks like good old fashioned family fun madness.
Re: Talking Point: Wii U and Third-Party Inconsistencies Pose Questions for Console Owners
I don't hold handhelds in a separate category, so....3DS and Wii U for me this gen with the occasional PC game.

Great news! This means I'll have more money to purchase other games!
Re: Kirby's Dream Land 2 Listed For North American 3DS eShop Release on 1st August
