Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam

@Crono1973 No, what gave you that impression?
Even if Nintendo was still selling the SNES a clone console would be okay. That's how the entire computer industry works.

The idea is to fairly compensate effort and work put in. Nintendo didn't build the Retron5 so they don't get paid for it.

You can't pirate a Mario game but you can make a game with the same mechanics.

Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam

ThePizzaCheese

@Crono1973 No, because there's nothing that Nintendo needs to be compensated for. This is why there's a difference between copyrights and patents.

All I'm telling you is that piracy is by definition stealing. If you want to steal then you need to settle that in your own concious.

@Crono1973 Actually justice is not a matter of opinion. You should learn a little more about what justice really is before arguing about it.

While laws are indeed written for the benefit of corporations, they're meant to be written against objective standards of justice. That's why countries have constitutions.

Also, you never asked me about the Retron5, but no I don't see an issue with that.

Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam

@Crono1973 Like I said, it's not all about making money. It's about justice. Plus limited availability it a legitimate market strategy. That the whole idea behind the "Disney Vault". The fact that these games aren't generally available increases their market value which in turn increases Nintendo's overall value as well.

Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam

@victordamazio It doesn't matter if the media is lost though. If Nintendo wants it to be lost that's their right. We don't have a right to the availability of Nintendo's creations. (Also there are achieves that do preserve software without making them publicly available. When the copyrights expire they will be made available).

Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam

@DoubleDate
I don't think you quite understand what emulation actually is. Most emulators are for old consoles. It's not code for piracy. A lot of people dump/rip games themselves. Most emulators are not intended to be used for piracy.

Plus the people who pirate Switch games normally just play them on hacked Switch systems, they don't use emulation for that.

Re: While Old Games Are Easily Delivered, Nintendo Is Focused On New Experiences, Says Miyamoto

ThePizzaCheese

@sikthvash To be fair, they did try that with Wii U, which carried over your Wii library. It's a hard system to implement because hardware always changes. Although I have heard from inside sources this concern will be a thing of the past thanks to standardised development environments, meaning your current Nintendo account purchases and NSO will still be available on future hardware. But for everything older theres still your Wii U.

Re: While Old Games Are Easily Delivered, Nintendo Is Focused On New Experiences, Says Miyamoto

ThePizzaCheese

Wow this article REALLY missed the point Miyamoto was making.

His main point was that any future Nintendo system would be compatible with current (ie switch) games because it will built from the same technical basis. And even if it's not technically compatible, porting modern games to new platforms is much easier than it used to be.

He brings up VC as a past example. Those games had to be "modified" to run on Wii hardware, but those VC versions were still compatible with Wii U because Wii and Wii U share the same technology.

The whole point of the conversation was to reassure people that the newer systems will of course be backwards compatible thanks to modern standardization. He's not talking about NSO or retro gaming at all, and wasn't trying to rule it out in the future.

Re: Nintendo To Establish Joint Venture Company With Mobile Firm DeNA

ThePizzaCheese

For all those who think this is bad news, remember that this kind of thing is nothing new for Nintendo. The Pokemon Company is basically this same idea, just focused on Pokemon. TPC didn't ruin Nintendo games or even mainline Pokemon ones, so I doubt this new joint venture is going to have a tremendous impact on the kinds of games Nintendo makes.

Re: Pokémon Dev Job Listing References R&D For Next-Generation Hardware

ThePizzaCheese

@Haruki_NLI Wow I wasn't aware of that stuff. I do know Iwata gave feedback on Pokemon Go, but I'm not sure in what capacity. I also would imagine Pokemon toys have very specific licensing that could be an issue for amiibo.

Ultimately though there's nothing surprising here. Considering Creatures' last games was for 3DS, "next generation" could just mean the Switch. There's also the possibility that they just want to update tehe models of old Pokemon that haven't been on Switch yet. But it is about time for a new console, so who knows?
