@Not_Soos Pokemon didn't get female avatars until Crystal, the name Game Boy was not meant to mean it was only marketed toward boys (it refers to the fact it was a sidekick device, as in "Batman and Boy Wonder"), and Game Boy wasn't dropped for political correctness.
@ZapNCrap But it's not like it was in the trailer yet or anything. Plus, some people like to avoid even watching trailers to prevent things being spoiled.
@Crono1973 No, what gave you that impression?
Even if Nintendo was still selling the SNES a clone console would be okay. That's how the entire computer industry works.
The idea is to fairly compensate effort and work put in. Nintendo didn't build the Retron5 so they don't get paid for it.
You can't pirate a Mario game but you can make a game with the same mechanics.
@Ocaz Actually I have no life. Sometimes I like to like emulate video games I pay for though. I can spend more time with you guys if you really like me that much though.
@Crono1973 Actually justice is not a matter of opinion. You should learn a little more about what justice really is before arguing about it.
While laws are indeed written for the benefit of corporations, they're meant to be written against objective standards of justice. That's why countries have constitutions.
Also, you never asked me about the Retron5, but no I don't see an issue with that.
@Crono1973 Whether or not an idea "works" doesn't matter. What matters is what's fair and just. If Nintendo wants to tank their business with bad strategy then they have the right to do that too.
@Crono1973 Like I said, it's not all about making money. It's about justice. Plus limited availability it a legitimate market strategy. That the whole idea behind the "Disney Vault". The fact that these games aren't generally available increases their market value which in turn increases Nintendo's overall value as well.
@victordamazio It's not about sales though. It's about justice and fair compensation.
The problem isn't about Nintendo not getting money, it's about you getting something you didn't deserve.
@victordamazio It doesn't matter if the media is lost though. If Nintendo wants it to be lost that's their right. We don't have a right to the availability of Nintendo's creations. (Also there are achieves that do preserve software without making them publicly available. When the copyrights expire they will be made available).
@Crono1973 Yeah people are going to pirate no matter what. But just because a game isn't available doesn't mean we shouldn't have to compensate the publisher to play them. If Nintendo only wants to sell it's creations for a limited time that's their right.
@DoubleDate I don't think you quite understand what emulation actually is. Most emulators are for old consoles. It's not code for piracy. A lot of people dump/rip games themselves. Most emulators are not intended to be used for piracy.
Plus the people who pirate Switch games normally just play them on hacked Switch systems, they don't use emulation for that.
@MythTgr I for one, would have never known if NLife hadn't put it in the headline. Furthermore the anime has been one of the biggest drivers of the series since the beginning. I doubt it's going away.
@victordamazio I always feel that claim is exaggerated. I can only think of one dirty joke from the first game, and a few from the second. I wouldn't say they're "full of them".
@sikthvash To be fair, they did try that with Wii U, which carried over your Wii library. It's a hard system to implement because hardware always changes. Although I have heard from inside sources this concern will be a thing of the past thanks to standardised development environments, meaning your current Nintendo account purchases and NSO will still be available on future hardware. But for everything older theres still your Wii U.
Wow this article REALLY missed the point Miyamoto was making.
His main point was that any future Nintendo system would be compatible with current (ie switch) games because it will built from the same technical basis. And even if it's not technically compatible, porting modern games to new platforms is much easier than it used to be.
He brings up VC as a past example. Those games had to be "modified" to run on Wii hardware, but those VC versions were still compatible with Wii U because Wii and Wii U share the same technology.
The whole point of the conversation was to reassure people that the newer systems will of course be backwards compatible thanks to modern standardization. He's not talking about NSO or retro gaming at all, and wasn't trying to rule it out in the future.
For all those who think this is bad news, remember that this kind of thing is nothing new for Nintendo. The Pokemon Company is basically this same idea, just focused on Pokemon. TPC didn't ruin Nintendo games or even mainline Pokemon ones, so I doubt this new joint venture is going to have a tremendous impact on the kinds of games Nintendo makes.
@Haruki_NLI Wow I wasn't aware of that stuff. I do know Iwata gave feedback on Pokemon Go, but I'm not sure in what capacity. I also would imagine Pokemon toys have very specific licensing that could be an issue for amiibo.
Ultimately though there's nothing surprising here. Considering Creatures' last games was for 3DS, "next generation" could just mean the Switch. There's also the possibility that they just want to update tehe models of old Pokemon that haven't been on Switch yet. But it is about time for a new console, so who knows?

I like the third one. Three rows of teeth and 15 figures.

@sixrings No.

Isn't that subtitle a little bit of a spoiler?
Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@Azuris Sure, but that's not capitalism's fault.

@Crono1973 Yes of course.

Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@Crono1973 No, because there's nothing that Nintendo needs to be compensated for. This is why there's a difference between copyrights and patents.
All I'm telling you is that piracy is by definition stealing. If you want to steal then you need to settle that in your own concious.

Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@Ocaz Yeah, but pirating games you don't own is explicitly illegal in most countries.
Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@Ocaz I've seen better.
Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@Crono1973 You can disagree all you want, but it won't change what's just and fair.
And even if old games were available people would still pirate them.

Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@Azuris Capitalism and copyright existed in the 90s. Are you sure you know what those things actually are?
Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@Crono1973 So you feel you have the right to steal things simply because the internet exits? Really?
Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@victordamazio It doesn't matter if the media is lost though. If Nintendo wants it to be lost that's their right. We don't have a right to the availability of Nintendo's creations. (Also there are achieves that do preserve software without making them publicly available. When the copyrights expire they will be made available).
Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@Crono1973 No, that's why you shouldn't pirate old games. You simply don't get to play Mother 3.

@Crono1973 Yeah people are going to pirate no matter what. But just because a game isn't available doesn't mean we shouldn't have to compensate the publisher to play them. If Nintendo only wants to sell it's creations for a limited time that's their right.
Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@sanderev How is simply owning a device Nintendo didn't make stealing?
Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@Crono1973 No, that doesn't mean they waive their right to fair compensation.
Also the point of copyright is literally about the right to make copies. That includes the right to not produce any as well.
Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@Dr_Lugae Valve isn't involved with this.
Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@victordamazio Yes, piracy is stealing. It robs the copyright holder of fair compensation. That's theft.
Re: Nintendo Isn't Happy About Switch Game Images On Steam
@Azuris The internet has always been that way. It was invented by a capitalist county with strong copyright laws.
