Re: Random: Is Masahiro Sakurai Throwing Shade At Pokémon's Trees?

ThePizzaCheese

@TheAbsol How is saying xenoblade 2 is bad an argument for Pokemon having bad graphics?

No, Game Freak didn't lie about remaking the models and animations. They've said in multiple interviews that they needed to remake everything (it was never said in a trailer). That also included needing to make gigantimax forms for every Pokemon. What makes you think they lied about it? A Twitter rumor? Regardless, how is that even an argument that SwSh has bad graphics? You're arguments don't make a whole lot of sense.

Yes, graphics and visuals are, for a video game, exactly the same thing. Saying "bad can still be good" is not a logical statement. Xenoblade's graphics are either bad or good, they can't be both. And again, talking about a game that had 10 years of development time and way more staff then Pokemon, is not going to convince some one Pokemon has bad graphics. If you want to talk about Pokemon, then talk about Pokemon.

I never said Pokemon had the best graphics out there, but they're far from terrible. Sure it may not stack up to 1st party games that have way more developers and development time, but it's a lot better then a lot of 3rd party games that people rave about. Singling out Pokemon to dump on just because you happen to feel xenoblade is better doesn't make any sense.

Re: Random: Is Masahiro Sakurai Throwing Shade At Pokémon's Trees?

@ceemster No, Game Freak doesn't have a parent company. It's a (relatively small) independent company and can develop Pokemon as it pleases. Obviously they develop in a way to make the most profit, are do cooperate with Nintendo, Creatures, and The Pokemon company, but they have the most say in the development of the franchise and are not "forced" to produce games. If they didn't want to make a game, The Pokemon Company could just contract out to another studio, which that did for the gen 4 remakes and Pokemon Go.

The finished result of their development is mostly based on what they thought fans would enjoy (yes really, Game Freak is that kind of company). They spend most of their time working on those things. The didn't prioritize the graphics because nobody had an issue with them before SwSh.

The really isn't anything wrong with the graphics, people just feel like they are entitled to complain so they look for flaws. They just don't want to enjoy the game. There's lots of games with worse graphics that people love, but because it's Pokemon people look for thing to criticize.

Re: Random: Is Masahiro Sakurai Throwing Shade At Pokémon's Trees?

@TheAbsol Obliviously Xenoblade is better optimized then Pokemon then. I don't remember them lying about the SwSh models, I remember them having to import and debug literally hundreds of characters, attacks, and animation, that all have to interact with each other seamlessly.

And were not talking about PLA, you already said you liked that one. You can't complain about the graphics in one game and then make fun of Game Freak when the next one has better graphics. Obviously the better looking game runs worse, what were you expecting?

Seriously though, the SwSh graphics are fine. I really would like to know what you think is visually pleasing. This is just want video games look like.

Plus you can't say graphics aren't important when this entire discussion started because you said there was something wrong with them. Make up your mind.

Re: Random: Is Masahiro Sakurai Throwing Shade At Pokémon's Trees?

ThePizzaCheese

@TheAbsol You don't have to play them if you don't want to. But I fail to see the issue with the "gwafiks"(wut?). Lots of games look like that. What exactly are you hoping for? Pokemon games have always had comparatively poor graphics anyway. Just compare Emerald to Golden Sun and you'll see what I mean.

And it's way better then the N64. Mario 64 had sprites for trees. Zelda trees were essentially card board cut outs.

That aside, I feel like you're being pretty disrespectful to Game Freak considering you named yourself after a Pokemon. If you're upset with the quality of their assets I recommend you donate some you've made to them.

Here's the link to Blender for you: https://www.blender.org/
You can also check out their sapling add-on here: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/addons/add_curve/sapling.html

There's also a few guidlines to remember. You're making asserts for an open feild area filled with lots of Pokemon. The models for these Pokemon were only ever intended to have a few of them in memory at a time, so they're very unoptimised for open gameplay. There really isn't anything that can be done about that since they were provided by Creatures Inc. who standardized the Pokemon models. Unfortunately Game Freak didn't have the time to make new ones since the internet through a fit when it found out not all Pokemon will make it in. You just have to use what you already have to put in as many Pokemon as possible. Oh, and keep the framerate in mind too, because, you know, that's the most important part about an RPG, at least according to the internet.

As a result you're going to need to keep the polygon count of you're assets to a minimum. And, the textures should be simple enough so as to not take up too much memory.

Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Re: Poll: Do You Actually Want Switch Ports Of Wind Waker And Twilight Princess?

ThePizzaCheese

@Ruthven I don't think that better sales of the GameCube and Wii U would have helped WW sales. I'd guess that most of the hard core Zelda fans bought both those systems specifically for Zelda. Plus the Wii supported GameCube games too, so the install base for it was definitely there.

I also don't think it has as wide appeal as BOTW does. It's potential sales figures would probably be similar to the SS remake (3.85 million).

Re: Poll: Do You Actually Want Switch Ports Of Wind Waker And Twilight Princess?

ThePizzaCheese

@LXP8 He talked about it in an interview about the GBA micro a few months ago: https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/reggie-fils-aime-claims-nintendo-of-america-was-forced-to-launch-game-boy-micro/

Admittedly, it does seem like NOA and NOJ had different plans regarding GBA, but he does mention it was in decline.

And that's my point about Pokemon. They use it to ensure strong sales figures. BW were released on DS as a safety net in case the 3DS and Wii U launches failed, which they did. The fact that they were a new gen at the time allowed them to also release sequels on the DS almost two years into the 3DS' life cycle. X and Y only can after they had gained an install base and helped them to regain financial confidence.

Even with the DLC, Nintendo still could have done another gen 8 game if they wanted. Heck, they kinda did with Legends of Arceus. The fact that we are getting another Pokemon gen so soon suggests they are again prepping for finical stability in case of disaster.

There are other signs too, but yeah, time will tell. Nintendo does like to surprise people, so anything could happen.

Re: Poll: Do You Actually Want Switch Ports Of Wind Waker And Twilight Princess?

ThePizzaCheese

@LXP8 Like I said, they'll definitely still support Switch, just along side something new. Plus Reggie recently said they fully intened to phase out GBA with the launch of the DS. The "third pillar" thing was just lip service.

As for Pokemon, Ninfendo always releases them for older systems. Crystal, FRLG, Emerald, BWB2W2, USUM, all were released around when the next system came out. The idea is to ensure strong sales for that year in the event the new system fails. As long as they have Pokemon to fall back on investors are happy. They've done it for every time they've released a new handheld or console since the GBA.

Nintendo even stated that they skipped 'Z' and jumped to gen 7 in order to calm fears the release of Pokemon Go could damage the frachise. The fact that they've now skipped a third gen 8 game and gone straight to 9 indicates that they're trying to create financial confidence so they can do something risky.

You have to admit, now is a great time to take a risk. No matter what they do, no one would be concerd for Nintendo's future.

Re: Poll: Do You Actually Want Switch Ports Of Wind Waker And Twilight Princess?

ThePizzaCheese

@LXP8 Usually when they say stuff like that it really means "we absolutely are releasing something new soon but don't want people to know yet".

Remember when they said the DS was a "third pillar" alongside GameCube and GBA?

I have no doubt they'll continue to sell Switch alongside a new system though. In fact, it's the Switch's huge install base and continued demand that gives Nintendo the freedom to try something new and risky. If it flops, they can just go back to the Switch. Waiting until demand wains is exactly what got them into trouble with Wii U. They waited until Wii demand dried up before releasing the Wii U, so when if flopped they had nothing to fall back on.

Releasing a new system during the height of the old is the less risky option. And when demand does begin to drop Nintendo won't lose any investors if they see they have a new system that is growing.

Ultimately, we know that the chip the Switch is made from will no longer be produced, so they have to make something new. The release of new Pokemon games are also usually used as a financial fall back, which means they're defiantly up to something. Plus the delay of Zelda to Spring suggests they're trying to mimic their Switch's success in 2017.

But hey, what do I know?

Re: Poll: Do You Actually Want Switch Ports Of Wind Waker And Twilight Princess?

ThePizzaCheese

@HalBailman I disagree. Nintendo has no choice but to release a new system. All the signs are there. There is no doubt they will announce something by October and release by March.

Zelda ports, on the other hand, are very unlikely. Partly because BOTW2 is so close, but also because Nintendo never gives people what they want. And I mean, come on, WW didn't sell well either time they released it, doing it a third time will not impress investors.

Re: Game Journalist Doubles Down On Zelda News At Upcoming Nintendo Direct

ThePizzaCheese

@KingBowser Yeah you could always try an original Wii model, those have component cables readily available. You can also get HDMI adapters for it pretty cheap too. There's also a GameCube HDMI adapter, but it only works on the DOL-100 model and is kinda expensive. Or you could always get a composite-to-HDMI adapter.

Another thing to remember is that a lot of TVs combine their composite port (three prongs) with their component (fives prongs). So a five prong port MIGHT support the three prong cables. Look for a green port surrounded by yellow, or some variation like that. But you'll have to check the TV's specs to be sure.

But if you're SUPER desperate, and are willing to sacrifice picture quality, you could use the GameCube's RF adapter (the SNES and N64 one will work too). This will plug into the little stub that looks like a screw on the back of your TV. All TV's are required by law to have an RF port. It's normally for antennas/cable TV. Just remember to switch to the right channel. Ah the good ol' days...

Re: Rumour: It's Not Even September And Nintendo Direct Rumours Have Already Started

ThePizzaCheese

The is NO WAY they are going to release TWO Zelda games just SIX MONTHS before Breath of the Wild 2. That would be absolutely ridiculous.

Most likely we are going to see a new system announcement for launch in March along side BOTW2.

Metroid Prime 4 will probably release at the end of next year, with a Trilogy remaster sometime around June.

Although I think the only guarantee we really have is that whatever happens, it's going to be disappointing.

Re: Random: Zelda: Majora's Mask Debug Feature Reveals Ages Of Link's Forms

ThePizzaCheese

I think this is just a hold over from Ocarina of Time, where Link's age actually changes. 5 and 17 were used in its debug menu too.

"5" isn't a mistake, it was just the idea for young Link's age before the the concept was finalized. (Young Link's canon age bounces around 9 - 12.)

Likewise "17" isn't Oni Link's age, it just come from the fact that he was originally going to still be adult Link.

The ages for the Deku, Goron and Zora Link are probably there just to fit the debug menu. Those numbers could have been chosen for any number of reasons, such as for data organization. They could be their original intended ages, but i don't think there is enough evidence to say that for sure.

Re: Nintendo Is Apparently Not Involved In The New Switch DRM Initiative

ThePizzaCheese

@AnnoyingFrenzy I think you're sort of missing the point of the conversations then. Both sides know that both are against piracy. The discussions on here at least tend to focus on whether or not emulation is in fact used for legal purposes or if people just use that as an excuse. The discussion is about the generalization, not about piracy.
