Re: Pokémon Art Director Would Like to Simplify the Next Generation of the Franchise

Sneaker13

I have to agree on multiple levels. I've got three big gripes about the serie.

First the design of the Pokémon. The first generation was awesome and there were hardly any Pokémon I didn't like (they were there, but most of them were great). But with each gen they got worse. Like they were running out of ideas. I mean, we have Ice cream Pokémon, garbage back pokemon, candle Pokemon, key pokemon. Really? Not to mention how the have nice Pokémon en screw them up by making them evolve in terrible Pokémon that hardly look like the original ones.

Second the evolutions. This was pretty simple in the first few games, but got extremely complicated. Some evolve at day, some at night, some need to be in a certain location, some need happiness, some need to hold an item when breeded etc. etc. It is just so overly complicated.

Then the moves. In the later games I have no idea what a move does. Even with a description. And especially in the last game. Some moves looks very impressive but don't appear to do much. I would however add two moves to each Pokémon. I think four is too little, I would rather have six. I find it really hard to believe that all Pokémon simply forget moves. Really? I also hate using moves outside of battle. I don't want to give up a move slot just for things like cutting down trees, breaking rocks, surfing on the water etc. etc. Just give Pokémon these abilities by default. Do I really need to learn a bird Pokémon how to fly, a water Pokémon how to swim/surf and a big, strong Pokémon how to break rocks. I don't think so.

I laughed out loud when I read Stephen Kelly's piece. I have exactly the same thing. I was like "Ugh, I just want to catch and train Pokémon, not make a stupid video." Three hours later I had an awesome video.

I also like the reference to DBZ with the 9000 quote and the reference to that rhythm game they made.

O and I was so excited that I got Bulbasaur, it hasn't left my party and I just love playing with him in Pokémon Anime.

Re: Nintendo Wants To Close Down This Open-Source Web Version Of Super Mario Bros.

I have to give the student credit. This is an amazing thing to do in a web browser. But why in the world didn't he come up with some new characters, environments, new level layout, new enemies and just make it a new game. Why do they always have to use Mario to show what they have achieved. Of course Nintendo should take this down. Come on, it is Super Mario Bros, but then in a browser.

O my, I was impressed with Chespin, but what the hell did they do to him in his second evolution. I bet the third one will be a ball of an egg. Jeez.

Never like Froakie and don't like his evolution at all. Fennekin's evolution looks kinda alright though.

I will never let Bulbasaur evolve. So unless the third evolution brings some surprises, I will either end up with two Grass Pokemon I don't want to evolve or with Bulbasaur and the firefox.

The only one I'm interested in is StreetPass Mansion. It's unfortunate that in the Netherlands I hardly get any hits, apart from my sister. Last week I went from Rotterdam to Amsterdam (two of the biggest cities in my country) and back by train. Only got one hit.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Should Aim to Produce Mature, Genre-Defining Storytelling Experiences

The Last of Us was my E3 game of last year. I was really bummed it was an PS3 exclusive. That's why I was thrilled that the Wii U is getting Watch_Dogs. My second favorite of last years E3. I'm a big adventure fan, in which the story is probably the most important thing. So I would love more story in Nintendo games. I once played around with an Epic Mario idea until I saw how Epic Mickey turned out. The artwork was awesome, the game good, but not as interesting as the artwork was.

Re: Nintendo Won't Be Holding A Large-Scale Press Conference At E3 This Year

Although I love the Nintendo Directs. There is a time an a place for everything. E3 is the time and the place to wow the audiences, to make sure that the gaming public knows what's happening on the Nintendo front. Not doing a big show is a dumb decision. You can expect Microsoft and Sony showing their new hardware, so Nintendo should show a lot of great games.

Re: Feature: Luigi's Diary - Extracts

I always loved Luigi. I think Zero Punctuation nailed it by saying in one of his reviews that Mario is basically a non-character. Don't get me wrong, I love all the games, but story wise, I have always find him uninteresting. Luigi on the other hand is awesome. I just finished Bowser's Inside Story and he is brilliant in that game. I love Luigi's Mansion 1 and 2 as well. It's such a shame that he probably always will be in the shadow of his big brother. I hope he will get more solo games or at least you can choose him in games like NSMBU. Go Luigi.

It's awesome that they've got the original voice actor of Scrooge back in the studio's. Can't wait for that. Don't mind the lack of a VC version of NES classic. I still have the original NES cartridge and both GB cartridges. Still looking for Duck Tales 2 for the NES for a reasonable price.
