Edit: oh and I didn't see what you said there about Fire Emblem. I reckon you're gonna get A LOT of recommendations here to try out Awakening if you haven't already, and I think I'll be the first to give you one such one. You'll have plenty of time between now and Fates' release to complete it. It's pretty much unanimously agreed to be the best in the series and without doubt IMO the best for newcomers to start playing the series. Have fun

@Aromaiden that's not what he means, at least regarding the latter two points there. I don't really get what this 'new era' is even referring to anyway, arguably all 3 of the current consoles are just higher quality versions of their predecessors, with the Wii U Gampad replacing the Wii's Wiimote in terms of the 'gimmicky Nintendo control system,' and I've yet to see any games from Sony or Microsoft that highlight any change. The Witcher 3 is the only 3rd party game released so far that has could point towards any 'new era', like 90% of the others have been garbage. Opinions, eh? What can you do, Sony can be rehashers, Starfox can be an indie game, Nintendo can be doomed and there can be a 'new era'. What I prefer are facts, and I've yet to see many convincing ones from our good friend arnoldlayne83, and he STILL hasn't addressed my original point on how on Earth Sony's standards are any higher than Nintendo's when they allow a game like The Order 1886 to be $60 day one.

'Courageous enough to step into a new era' yeah, one where their E3 was filled with COD, Battlefront and Destiny deals that they must have paid mucho dinero for, and all the hype was for 3 main games, one that was announced nearly 10 years ago and Sony interfered in it 'cause they know it won't sell (The Last Guardian), a remake of the most rehashed franchise ever (Final Fantasy VII) and one of the most dodgy things I've ever seen with Shemue 3, and the latter aren't even exclusives! Come on can't you give modern Nintendo even a little bit of credit and admit that Sony are just as bad, if not worse, in many aspects? Here I'll have a go, The Last of Us is my second favourite game ever, I've loved all the Sony consoles I've owned and one of my most anticipated games currently is Horizon Zero Dawn. You don't see anything you like in modern Nintendo? Yet you're still here? And you can't see how stupid things like The Order 1886 are? Come on man don't be such a downer, have a go at Splatoon or Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, guaranteed to bring a smile to your face.

@Chaoz fine you know what you've persuaded me, I did go overboard so I will go back and delete my intentionally trollish comments, it's not conducive to a good gaming site like this. But again I will stick to my guns on my main point, you can't just go around calling Nintendo rehashers and calling their great games indie games, then say they are inferior to a company that is relapsing 'remasters' of two IPs they crated on the PS3 that already have 3 games out on the market. The amount of ignorance in that is too much. But all in all going back to the main topic of the article, I'm definitely on the side of 'Day 1 buy' when it comes to SFZ. Can't wait. @OptometristLime I try my best when I want to get my point across. I just can't stand these people who go around Nintendo sites like these and say "Stafox would be an indie game on PS4", "Nintendo are dooooomed without the power of PS4", "Xenoblade Chronicles X looks like rubbish compared to PS4 games", "amiibo are the worst kind of DLC". Seriously all the time it's why Nintendo are inferior and always bringing the other two into it, most notably Sony. Just go to a Playstation site please? It's great reading the Nintendo Life team's thoughts on the game and then the thoughts of all these great Nintendo fans here who, like myself, have been anticipating this for years. But then there's that PS4 Master Race comment. It's just too good an opportunity to miss, know what I'm saying?

Starfox Zero looks great IMO, all I need now are motion controls in Zelda U with a similar artsyle to Skyward Sword and I'll be happy. But you're probably part of the group who wants Nintendo games on PS4, imagine, Zelda corridor sim GOTY 2020 IGN 10/10 too much gritty. As for Fire Emblem and Mario, Galaxy and Galaxy 2 are considered to be 2 of the best games ever so you're clearly hating there, and who isn't excited for FE Fates? Nintendo4life.

I'm sure Sony could use your money, they're releasing a DLC themed console soon for one of the most hated games ever since they have no games coming out. Oh no wait they do, that Uncharted Collection which is 3 games I could buy for $10 total and they're expecting you to pay $60 of it. Lol, just lol. Don't try and act high and mighty bud, each company has their faults. PS I've owned, and still currently own, every PS apart from the 'legacy platform' Vita.

@MoonKnight7 I'm sure in the initial comment Quothoron said that "it's laughable that Nintendo consider the Wii successful" or something, so yes this was about the Wii as a whole, which is an undoubted success. Regarding motion controls, aye yes that's the best way you could describe as a 'fad' on the Wii, as many bought the system for the novelty, but considering that BOTH Microsoft and Sony launched less successful attempts at motion control (Kinect and PS Move) after the Wiimote, and that they both still have, admittedly limited, functions this gen (the PS4 controller and Kinect, especially at first when it was required with the Xbox One and of course many Wii U games using it, and using it well might I add Splatoon as the main one) So it's even a stretch to call motion controls as a 'fad', considering all three used it last gen, and still attempted it over the last few years this gen. And the only one who made it a success was Nintendo. So there ya go.

@Quorthon right can you please this time back up your argument? This is probably the 1000000th time you have called the Wii a 'fad' without backing that up with any evidence. The fact is the Wii was successful, fastest selling home console ever (20 mill in 13 months I believe), popularised motion controls, great games (Prime 3, Twilight Princess, Galaxy 1 and 2, Xenoblade Chronicles), and near unprecedented software sales. Wii Sports is the highest selling game as it was bundled with the Wii, but that would fall into your fad argument. By my definition, a fad would be something that did not have longevity, but that doesn't apply to the Wii either. It had the standard life-span for a home console (5-6 years) and as for games, Mario Kart Wii came out nearly 2 years after the Wii's launch and is one of the best selling non-bundled games ever, NSMBW came out nearly 3 years later and sold 10 million in North America alone, Wii Sports Resort was over 20 million as a 2009 launch and even Skyward Sword, the last great Wii game became the fastest selling Zelda game ever, and I'm not sure but I think Twilight Princess on Wii sold more than any single platform Zelda. There are at least another few dozen games that broke the 1 million mark, and a lot of them didn't launch in the first year or two.

Are you really going to say that a console with that much success is a fad after reading the facts? At least you're no longer tarring the DS with the same brush, because that claim was just so unfounded and wrong it was laughable.

@k8sMum I re-read what I wrote and I will give you this one, I probably did deserve to be put in my place but I'll stand by what I said. The facts I pointed out were mainly related to Nintendo never fooling, lying or mis-leading people in the past like they would be if Zelda launched on NX. Facts (I'm sounding like Rafa Benitez lol) every home console has had a unique Zelda, Nintendo have stated every time they've been asked since the delay that it is still a Wii U game, both Reggie and Miyamoto have said that they will be showing footage of the game soon, with the latter implying it could be as soon as this year, so way before the NX is even announced, the TP is BS because the GameCube had Wind Waker, and Nintendo have never lied to this degree. Again I'll try to say it with as less snark as possible but I am very, very confident looking at that that I will be proved right, so I feel entitled to be a bit pompous, especially considering how many times I've seen people shot down who share the same opinion as I, I just hate these unfounded comparisons that don't add up, mainly just because they don't have a Wii U. Only one way to end this I suppose:

@jord well thank you for that, I must say I am genuinely surprised to find someone who disagrees with Nintendo's current decisions who actually likes Skyward Sword, that's usually synonymous with people's hatred of modern Nintendo. Who knows, maybe there will come a time when people judge this game on its merits, and not comparing it to Skyrim or The Witcher.

As for your other points, it's late and whilst you do bring up a lot of good points I will just finish by saying a disagree with what you're saying. The day Nintendl stops changing and innovating, I think will be the day I lose interst myself. You say they are behind the times, and there are lots of factors in your favour, but with Splatoon for example, I'm having too much fun to worry about Voice Chat, or Ranking systems or any of the modern trends in other online shooters. That's why I'll mainly play Nintendo games, look at Mario Galaxy for example, putting Mario into space? Interconnected planets? That amazing soundtrack? I honestly consider that to be one of the greatest videogame innovations ever, literally no one but Nintendo could've throught of it, and they executed it brilliantly, deserving it's accolades..

Also they own Monolith Soft and if you haven't played Xenoblade I'd fully recommend it. Modern Nintendo classic, can't wait for X..

Just finishing off on Zelda you consider its design incoherent? I'm not sure what you mean by that, both SS and TP were very, very good IMO and stuck to the roots of a Zelda game (puzzles, dungeons, sword-based combat, wacky items, hidden collectibles, the traditional story etc). We'll just have to wait and see how they handle open world with the new one, I am very optimistic they will nail it, it's not a new concept and every company has had a fair crack at it with some stellar success, why not Nintendo with Zelda?

God the least I'd expect after making an account today is for my opinion on matters to be taken seriously, I do know what I'm talking about, though you're obviously right I don't have inside info like anyone does here, but my comment was no more self-assuming or pretentious than any of the ones I've seen that have said that Zelda U is most definitely Zelda NX as well. I presented quite a few facts as well, perhaps you read them over and respond a bit more maturely? What is your opinion on the matter as you haven't even said that.

@jord so in the end it's just your opinion then? Lol OK then. Can't believe I gave you the time of day (though it's night where I am TBF). Thing is, my favourite Zelda game is Skyward Sword, a game I would be amazed to find you consider the anti-Christ of gaming /s. I liked, in fact liked a lot, Phantom Hour Glass and Spirit Tracks. Link's Awakening? Eh. See that's the great thing with opinions, we all have unique ones, but what they definitely are not are indisputable facts that eradicate any and all other opinions or facts. Some of my favourite games were on DS, Chrono Trigger remake, Ghost Trick, Ace Attorney (started on GBA but I played on DS) and I much preferred the Pokemon games on it too. But what I don't then do is call the Gameboy a fad, fluke or s*** because I know a lot of people loved it! and I respect their opinions. The Gameboy and the Gameboy Advance really only have one game that I love between them- Mother 3. The DS/3DS? Oh boy I don't even want to begin to imagine, we'll be here all day. But to sum up, I think you should accept that your opinion isn't fact or right, because we all know, Skyward Sword is truly the best game ever made/s

Anyone got a Link (heh) to where Nintendo have stated Zelda is for NX? Anyone? No? Oh and pleeeeeeeease can people explain to me why they are bringing Twilight Princess up? Do people really think they will throw out the last great Wii U game on NX too? Then why wasn't Skyward Sword a Wii U game? Funny how that's never brought up. It would've been a snap, but no Skyward Sword started development well into the Wii's life, was announced as a Wii exclusive and then, believe it or not, IT WAS A FREAKIN' WII GAME!!!!! No cover ups, no lies, no smoke and mirrors- nothing. Same thing will happen with Zelda U, just simply add a U after the Wiis to my description of SS's development cycle.

They are going to show the game later this year, as they have already said unlike these people bringing up NX. What do you think will happen honestly? In the Zelda U Direct in 4 months time they just casually say "oh and it's now an NX game". Or they say it's a Wii U game, which it is, then sometime next year just say "oh shoot forgot to mention this in that reveal Direct last year but this will be releasing in a few months on the NX as well". Nintendo can be stupid, may I say even out of touch, but they're not liars, they're not Warner Bros. They say it's a Wii U game so it's a Wii U game.

Oh and to go back to Twilight Princess- The. GameCube. Had. Wind. Waker. Years before TP and the Wii, Nintendo know they can skip Metroid (done it before on N64) and a couple of other series, but they know each console needs its own Zelda game, they won't then stab all us Wii U owners in the back, especially after they have said time, after time, after time that it is a Wii U game only. All you Wii U-less people begging for this to happen and throwing your eggs in the NX basket should stop, you're well off the mark with this one and nothing I've read has convinced me that this new Zelda will be playable on NX, at the very least not at launch.

@jord he/she was definitely arrogant. Not just in one comment or thread, they have been for a while. Brandishing all Nintendo fans as 'fanboys' who buy anything Zelda related and 3 3DSs, never giving Nintendo credit and diminishing any and all arguments to the contrary of his/her own. I don't care about the facts, as well as your own as I've read it all before and I admit it, it's mostly all on the right points, but there's a way to present it, especially as he/she regulates it over and over and over, as if anything is new or not known. I also don't care about your opinion of Zelda lol what was that about? I just wants to express my opinion at the way this individual expresses their own, you don't have to doom and gloom EVERY article.
About the two points you referenced, Nintendo may go 3rd party, OK I'll give you that, but then again the NX may sell 20 million in a year, that's the problem with these haters, never looking on the positives at all (but let me re-iterate they won't go 3rd party). It's apparently all set in stone according to Mr Nintendo hater, NX launch in 2016, failure, Nintendo 3rd party, and he/she attacks anyone who disagrees. That's why I can't stand them and had to make this account.
Oh and Wii and DS a fluke bit, cute how you say it's undeniable in bold but then give us no evidence to back it up. You saying it's easy to sell 100 million consoles? It was inevitable? What about Wii Fit (from your beloved Shigeru) a fluke too? Just like Frozen, IPads and the PS4? All flukes? Oh obs not, they're not Nintendo. Oh and PLEASE tell me how Nintendo managing to DESTROY the freakinb Gamboy was a fluke. I'd also argue the 3DS is almost as impressive, considering Smartphones and Tablets, but the DS was a stroke of genius, and the only reason you're denying it is bias, I'm afraid.

You may think that you're the omniscient God of videogames, but in reality you just come across as an insufferable know-it-all. This isn't the first article where your bias and arrogance have shown, I'm sure you're aware. In all honesty, you bring up some good points and you hit the nail on the head with a few, but just re-read what you post in future. Across IGN, Gamespot, Nintendo Life and others, Nintendo haters for me have almost 100% of the time shared these two main points of view:
1. That the Wii or DS were 'flukes'. Honestly I've read that so many times it's untrue, to call either one is bold but BOTH!? Give credit where its due, to not do so you just come across as a troll and a hater, negating your pervious good insight.
2. You would love Nintendo to go 3rd party. This is my favourite, the Nintendo haters who haven't played their amazing games I just pity but I always love finding a good one like you who knows how good Nintendo really are, and would love a future where Zelda is on the PS5 or Metroid on the Xbox or Xenoblade on PC. Face it bud. It. Will. Never. Happen.
Like I say your arrogance really shows so try to contain it, it will look even more embarrassing if the 'NX' sells well, but then again it's Nintendo so it's a fluke, eh?
