No comments! I'll admit that I've got a major soft spot for this game. Certainly, "the gameplay is just what you’d expect from this kind of game", but it's done pretty well if you ask me. I wouldn't recommend that you download it before SoR or Final Fight...but worth a go nevertheless. I would say that though: I'm a sucker for the patented Neo Geo MASSIVE CHUNKY MEGA SPRITES.
When I mentioned it was 'dismayingly repetitive', it wasn't to say how tedious the game might be, but rather how unambitous it is. It appears that the developers were far too happy to repeat the same four ideas over and over - I'm sure you'll agree that besides making floats, bridges, stairs and umbrellas, there isn't that much you need to doodle. It just should have been so much more than it is, even if memory is tight on WiiWare. Wouldn't really agree that it's unique either, as Drawn To Life largely did this same sort of thing a few years back.
It might seem a bit mean-spirited of me to put the boot in - especially considering how polished it is by the standards of WiiWare - but to me it isn't all that exciting.
Max & the Magic Marker isn't really up to that much. Don't get me wrong; it's definitely playable, but at the same time it's dismayingly repetitive and not nearly as revolutionary or intelligent as it thinks it is. I just expected a bit more after reading the previews. Still, there are worse prospects on WiiWare.
Despite it's techincal ingenuity and admirable presentation, a 5/10 would have been fairer if you ask me.
Downloaded it last night, and after about two hours of play, I can say that I'm not massively impressed. The platforming isn't all that exciting, and the scenarios in which they let you use the marker pen are quite samey. I can't help but think this is a game that's a couple of years late. Maybe I've been spoiled by Scribblenauts - and even Drawn To Life - on DS, but even without having played those I'd have said Magic Marker is a bit short on new ideas...
Tomena Sanner on the 1st, Shadow Dancer on the 8th, Pheonix Wright on the 15th and now this on the 22nd. All in all, a great month for Wii Shopping Channel!
What's with the argument about block size? Doesn't everyone who's interested in WiiWare have the SD Card Channel by now? It might have been a big deal in 2007 - but not today.
Also, no one has ever thought these games are educational. No one is ever going to think these games are educational. Pheonix Wright will never become the preeminent case study of the judicial system works, and as everyone almost certainly knows that, why did you waste time typing about the educational merit of the game?
I left a comment here years ago illustrating how much I like this game. Clearly, that's been deleted - cheeky! - but I still feel the same way about Neo Turf Masters. Simply put, it's great. A worthy download for 900 points. Just to add: you've got to love SNK's MASSIVE SPRITES...the character models wouldn't look out of place in a WWE game.
I wanted to like this game so much, but it is very hard to ignore the imprecise controls and frustrating camera that you're lumped with throughout the game. Yes, LKS is imaginative, and it's exciting...but moreso than anything else, it's deeply annoying.
I was letdown by this as a youngster. I might not be a fan of this game becuase I played it on PlayStation at around the same time as cutting-edge stuff like Ridge Racer Revolution and Tekken, but nonetheless it didn't dazzle like the 1994 original.
Eh? It's nothing like saying that - from what I've heard about it, SIGE is an expansion far beyond the game reviewed here.
I wouldn't bother with this either, as its been emulated on numerous websites over the years under different guises. You're bound to find it somewhere for free.
I hadn't a clue that this was on Virtual Console! I've always had a soft spot for Dig Dug. The review isn't wrong when it emphasies the lack of variety, but nonetheless what is on offer for 500 points is good enough.
Not at all, Bass X0. This is by-the-numbers 2D platforming; the second entry into a series that has continously failed to set the gaming world alight. Graphics are good, but the abilities are unimaginative and make the game too easy to be much fun. It makes for passble enjoyment, but Kirby's Adventure (and the rest of the post-Dream Land games, for that matter) is Nintendo's autopilot platformer. Time to rub that emotional residue off of those rose-tinted glasses.
I was playing this in the pub last night! It wasn't too bad actually, but I wouldn't be up for paying £3.50 for a download when 30p proved to suffice in seeing everything on offer here.

Re: More Super Mario Galaxy 2 Footage
Top drawer!
Re: Last Ninja 3 Pulled From European Virtual Console
Nice one!
Re: Review: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney (WiiWare)
Completed it last night. 5/10 is absolute mince.
Re: Review: Super Monkey Ball Step & Roll (Wii)
If only you'd posted this before I paid £35 for it!
The review is right, natch - the difficulty curve is a killer.

Re: ChuChu Rocket!
Agree with the above posts. Hell, I could port this to WiiWare in my lunch hour!
Re: XBLA Perfect Dark Getting GoldenEye Maps and Weapons
Fine by me! I'd rather see some current-gen gamers enjoy (aspects of) Goldeneye than none at all...
Re: Big Nintendo News Incoming
I'm predicting Wii Music Plus.
Re: OpaOpa and ChuChu's Rocket into Sega and Sonic All-Stars Racing
All I wanted was Ristar...
Re: Review: Bloons (WiiWare)
Released on the same day as Tomena Sanner? Pfft - they must be joking!
Re: First Impressions: Moyasu Puzzle Flametail
MaBoShi was quality, but I say Square was the worst of the three games.
FYI, you can't beat a bit of Bar!
Re: Review: Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars (SMS)
I quite liked this, but can see where the reviewer was coming from. Not so sure about the 3/10 though...
Re: Review: Last Ninja 3 (Virtual Console / Commodore 64)
I was so, so close to buying this last night, but decided to read Nintendo Life's review.
Cheers for the heads up - points saved!
Re: Red Steel 2 Shoots and Slashes in March
Anything for a bit of MotionPlus: I'll be all over this come March 26th.

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd January 2010 (Europe)
Download Max just there. But can't see it stopping my Ace Attorney game...seriously, 5/10? Cobblers!

Re: Review: Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi (Virtual Console / Sega Mega Drive)
Well done Darren - can't argue with that at all.
Re: Nintendo Download: 8 January 2010 (Europe)
Shadow Dancer!
Re: Review: Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu (Virtual Console / Sega Mega Drive)
Got for 500 points. The only thing distictive about it is the language barrier. Still, if you don't have Puyo Puyo...
Re: Review: Tomena Sanner (WiiWare)
Agree fully. I've played this loads today - very reasonable for 500 points
Re: Nintendo Download: Tomena Sanner, Happy Hammerin', Dragon's Lair, Miami Nights and Texas Hold'em (EU)
I've been playing Tomena Sanner for the last half an hour and expect it to recieve a solid review. 500 points is a generous cost if you ask me...

Re: Christmas UK Sales Charts - Surprisingly Unsurprising Edition
If by quality was how these charts were measured, then Pandora's Box would be at #1!
Re: Review: Earthworm Jim 2 (Virtual Console / Sega Mega Drive)

Re: Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber
The actual premise of this game doesn't appeal to me whatsoever, but I just can't say no to an N64 game that I've never played.
Re: Review: Axelay (SNES)
Well, they need to go back. It must be on the agenda - Axelay will come out in Europe at some point, surely.
Re: Review: Axelay (SNES)
It's quite clear: Nintendo hate us Europeans. Ah well.
Re: USA VC Update: Super Punch-Out!!
"Strangely enough, there are no new C64 or Arcade games today. Get on the ball, Nintendo!"
No! More SNES games, please! I don't want any of Namco's foosty old rubbish!
Re: Review: Mappy (Arcade)
7/10. That'll be shining bright...
Re: Bomberman '94
Mega Bomberman! Good stuff.

Re: World Games
This is on the cover of my copy of Issue 200 of EDGE. Absolutely gutted, I am.
Re: EU VC Update: Super Punch-Out!!
Nice.
Re: Review: Bubble Bobble (NES)
Another game I didn't know was on VC 'til now.
"...certainly one of the better games from the NES console." Can't disagree with that.
Re: Review: California Games (C64)
Always a favourite when I was wee - though why it clocks in at a massive 62 blocks is a mystery to me. That's the size of F-Zero and Punch-Out!
Despite that point, it's fun for a nostalgic burst, but like Golden Axe: not as good as you remember.

Good review.
Re: Review: Kirby's Adventure (NES)
@Digiki: Because I feel Sonic The Hedgehog (from the Meag Drive series) is a better game? Not to overcomplicate things here, but...
Re: Review: Kirby's Adventure (NES)
...don't get me started on Mega Man!
Anyway, I wouldn't recommend Kirby's Adventure. That's all I've got to say about that.
Re: Review: Kirby's Adventure (NES)

Re: Review: Kirby's Adventure (NES)
Surely inspiration for the word 'average'. Pales in comparison to the likes of Super Mario Bros. and Sonic The Hedgehog.
Re: Review: Donkey Kong 3 (NES)

Re: Review: ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron (MD)
For all of it's style and charm, what we have here is a rather plain 2D platformer at heart. I downloaded it, and haven't enjoyed it.
Re: Review: F-Zero (SNES)
Love that soundtrack! This is absolutely brilliant - though F-Zero X is superior. Still, both are certainly worth downloading.
Re: USA VC Update: Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars
A 2D platformer I've not played! I'll be downloading this when it's out over here.
