Re: Comix Zone

Roo

Overlooked in the day, if you buy this it'll no go underplayed.

Re: US VC Release - March 3rd - Super Turrican

Roo

Marioman64: "you know... Nintendo could just not give us any vc games. we should be thankful, not picky."

Exactly. This a great chance for people to play games that were bypassed by most back in the day - Super Turrican is one of those. Nintendo really don't have to bring anything back at all if one considers it. One game every seven days is plenty; and if you don't like that one game, go buy a Wii game, for there are plenty of those you've probably neglected as well (Eledees, Dewy's Adventure, Geometry Wars: Galaxies et al.)

Re: Psychosis

Roo

Got a bit excited there. I thought this might be a game based on the former WCW Cruiserweight guy, but alas, its another shooter on a overpopulated system, one that is hardly going to instigate a roaring trade in hardware sales. Hmm.

Re: EU VC Releases - 29th February - Super Turrican

Roo

Why is everyone upset that we're not getting Kirby 64? Wouldn't people rather play games that stimulate them, test their reflexes, and ultimately don't bore the arse off of them?!

Super Turican is great. Thoughtful; inventive; classy. Get amongst it!

Re: Harvest Moon

Roo

My biggest waste of Wii Points yet, its worse than the Game Boy Colour version I've had for like a million year, the supporting characters don't give you nearly enough guidance, I don't have the time to integrate myself into washing virtual cows.
Just because it's rare doesn't mean its good.

Re: Paper Mario

Roo

Just completed it today, after a total of 25 hours and 14 minutes playing. That's crackin' value!

Re: Streets of Rage

Roo

Can I just recommend to everyone that playing this with your mates, a few beers and with Eye of the Tiger playing on your CD player is better than just about anything on VC? Quality.

Re: Sonic 3D Blast

Roo

I always felt this game got a bad deal. Though it never amazes, it's a graphical beast on Mega Drive, and platform fans should be more pleased with this than later games like Sonic The Hedgehog (2006) and Sonic and The Secret Rings. So why all the hate?

Re: Golden Axe

Roo

Very dated - it all seems so quaint these days. Get Streets of Rage 2.

Re: Excitebike

Roo

A great game you should add to your collection. That is all I need to say.

Re: Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine

Roo

Certainly not the game I was hoping it was gonna be back in '93. Coulda easily been something more. This is not what you're looking for - Sonic Mega Collection is.

Re: Columns

Roo

Looks pretty (all those colours make me do the old Ren & Stimpy "Happy Happy Joy Joy" dance), but at the end of the day this is a slow and dull attempt to copy the grandaddy of all puzzle games - thats Tetris - on a more intelligent system. Not as good as you remember it to be!

Re: Balloon Fight

Roo

Nice multiplayer game. It's not gonna hold your attention for too long, but you'll return to it every so often. 500 points isnae bad for this. 4 stars!

Re: Ninja JaJaMaru-kun

Roo

Daft stupid Ninja game I cannae pronounce: never heard of it before now, and willnae hear from it again.

Re: Cybernator

Roo

This is mince.

And that's my analysis.

Edit 18/2/2009 - I was a bit hasty with my 2008 analysis. Cybernator is actually quite good, despite the duff generic title. Controls aren't what I'd like them to be, though.

Re: Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Roo

Kirby 64 has plenty of good and bad points, but I'm happy to say that overall the good outweighs the bad.
Fair cop, it's looks ropey even by 2001 standards, has an almost incomprehensible plotline and is perhaps a touch easy for a hardened platform fan's liking.

BUT!

In this instance, the easiest way to judge any VC game is to ask yourself whether or not you'd object to paying the asking price for it. As far as Kirby 64 is concerned, I wouldn't have to hesitate (if I didn't already have it). A hugely playable game thats hard to find here in Scotland for N64 - be happy it's coming out again.

BUT!

It's a toss-up between this and Yoshi's Story for the mantle of 'Wost N64 Game On VC Until Cruisin' USA Comes Out'.

Re: EU VC Releases - 22nd February - Street Gangs

Roo

Two games I've never played before which makes me happy, but I'm not sure how much I want another platformer, or side-scrolling beat 'em up, with games like Streets of Rage 3, Kirby's Adventure and the sort already downloaded onto my Wii...

Re: Ristar

Roo

A visual tour-de-force that showcased the power of the Mega Drive and wowed everybody (who played it) with its stunning looks. Ristar requires the disciplines of skill, concentration and good reflexes - qualities any decent gamer needs! Master it, and you'll be safe in the knowledge that you've spent your 800 points on one of the finest 2D platformer there is on any console. A hugely playable game, far superior than the folks above have portrayed it to be. 5 stars, without question.

Re: Baseball Stars 2

Roo

As a Scotsman, baseball means about as much to me as my ex-girlfriend. But seeing all these positive comments above, I decided to give Baseball Stars 2 a go. The comments above are justified: this is excellent!

However...it's only baseball. Let's not get carried away here, it's not like its ISS 64 or anything!

Re: Punch-Out!!

Roo

I just bought this game last night after reading the review at the top of the page. Good shout - this game is a belter! Certainly worth the 500 points, GO FOR IT!

Re: Super Mario 64

Roo

The game that got the whole ball rolling...there was no point owning Mario without an N64, but it's almost as bad as to have an N64 but no copy of Mario to play on it. Nigh on faultless. The N64's greatest accomplishment, now the VC's crowning jewel.

Re: Dr. Mario & Bacteria Extermination

Roo

"It's easy to be critical of a game you just have no hope in hell of getting in to. Not addictive; not aesthetically-pleasing; not fun. Dr. Mario is perhaps my least favourite game of all time. Admittedly, I've never played this edition, BUT LOOK AT IT. Dreadful."

That's what I sai about Dr. Mario 64 on my N64 tribute Bebo page. I'm applying it here too cause it'll be the exact same game!

Re: Global Inequality on the Virtual Console

Roo

"North American gamers have been enjoying the delights of Eternal Champions..."

Delights? Are you sure?!?!

Other than that, no complaints about the article; nicely done! Personally, I'm not too concerned about the VC inequality situation. I bought a Wii for, y'know, Wii games. Though it would be nice if Nintendo released more VC games we never saw in Europe, like Harvest Moon 64 et al.

Re: WiiWare Focus - Steel Penny Interview

Roo

The guy above couldn't be any more right. We've got it rough here - we probably won't get as many VC games as other continents, and we probably won't get Super Smash Bros. Brawl 'til about 2019...

Re: Are Virtual Console games good value for money?

Roo

"Are Virtual Console games good value for money?"

No. I went down to my local Gamestation one morning to buy a Wii Points card at £14.99.

I returned home with ten N64 games - good ones - for £10. That's good value! Buying two for £15 clearly isn't in comparison!

Re: Star Fox 64

Roo

Back in '97, I wasn't all that sure I was going to like Lylat Wars at all because I wasn't all that taken with the SNES original. I wasn't disappointed with my £60 investment however as the game proved to be pure class from start to finish, It's a well executed, thoroughly enjoyable shoot'em-up with great charaterisation and an engrossing storyline.

The game could have done with a level select upon completion first time round, but for 1,000 Wii Points, this is a must.

Re: The Legend of the Mystical Ninja

Roo

Initially, the Legend of the Mystical Ninja may have you nodding off to sleep, but like some bizarre, surreal dream it'll creep up on you and mess with your head. Mental, weird, inexplicable, eccentric and positively mad! Yet inventive, challenging, exciting and downright fun! Don't miss out!

Sorry to go overboard with the adjectives!
