Looking forward to this one. Was confident of its release, as it was given a quick mention in the most recent European 3DS Nintendo direct. Going to be an expensive time with the Wii U starting to get some games and Fire Emblem and Luigi's Mansion on 3DS as well.
Not going to get too excited about this, although i would get either of these games on 3DS VC. Didn't shining force (GG) and Master of Darkness also get OFLC rated, and then we are still waiting for those? Last GG game we got in Europe was Sonic Labyrinth, which was so long ago i was beginning to think Sega have abandonned 3DS VC support outside of Japan.
I'll probably get this when it comes to Europe. I'm sure i've read somewhere Runner 2 is expected in April in Europe.
I have Bit Trip complete on Wii and liked the Runner game on there so this should be good. I really enjoyed most of the games on BTC and really welcomed the easy difficulty level, although i still found Core to be, for me at least, unplayable even on easy. Void, Runner and the two similar Beat games are great so will put some more time into those until Runner 2 arrives.
EDIT:
Downloaded it yesterday, a fantastic, fun game. Played up to first boss, and unlocked first key vault and will be putting more time into this at the weekend.
Will wait for the review of Legend of the River King. Already have the Wii U version of Nano Assault so will play some more of that before i think about picking up the 3DS version. Already have the Metal Slug Anthology on Wii. Yet to play the Castlevania demo (have d/l'd); would go for retail>digital whenever that is an option.
Excellent review, very detailed and certainly got me interested in the game. I will definitely get this when it comes to Europe, whether this is a physical release or e-shop only. One of the features that really got my interest is the map-making; reading that part of the review takes me back to playing games like Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System, i sat for hours mapping the dungeons on graph paper, and would agree about the comment about the sense of accomplishment seeing the finished map.
I enjoyed the Lego Starwars collection on Wii, put around 35- 40hours into that one. i LOL'd at the movie references in the trailers for LC:U (Drity Harry, Shawshank Redmeption, etc.)
Had about 3 hours on this over the weekend and really enjoyed it. Not gotten very far, only finished the Knight and Queen leagues on beginner and done some practice runs. I haven't used save states... yet. Looks great on my TV. I think there are a few (occassional) graphical glitches on the gamepad, but hardly worth mentioning. Awesome sound track, which sounds brilliant when you plug headphones in the pad. I enjoyed this one a lot more than Maximum Velocity and i was always useless at X on N64, which i still have on cart.
Quite interested by Retro City Ramgape and Splash or Crash.
Pacman is a great game, but i already have the GB version on 3DS VC, and then Pacman & Galaga Dimensions (3DS), so I really don't need the NES version as well.
I think PS4 is going to be very expensive so it will be a risky veuture for Sony, but there are always people who want the best and most powerful console on the market. Personally i'd be surprised if it was much cheaper than the PS3 was at it's launch. The lack of backwards compatibility means on top of buying the console, new games will be a necessity. It will probably struggle early on with the exact same issues that Wii U is having now, i.e. low attachment rates for games sales and a lack of momentum a few moths down the line, once all the early adopters have already got their hands on it. The economy is still not showing any strong signs of recovery, which won't help matters either. Personally i expect the PS4 will succeed although a lot may depend on Microsoft's plans, both Sony & MS seem to offer very similar machines and go for the exact same part of the games market. Just as the Wii was a success for Nintendo, in the last generation up against PS3 and Xbox 360, i expect the Wii U to succeed alongside the powerhouse Sony or Microsoft machines, due to the unique library of games, Nintendo first party titles and innovation in design.
@Tsuchiya, Burning Spear: I also looked at some of the communities and was surprised by the low number of posts from people who actually owned the game. Although, when the Owner filter is applied, it looks like it also limits the search to posts that are no more than 2 weeks old, so there are more owners of the game who posted earlier, but probably not many in some cases.
I'll be trying out the challenge mode when it arrives and if the game gets good reviews, when it eventually shows up, i'll certinaly consider getting it. I think short of releasing the game, it's as good as anyone can expect. I can understand people's frustration with Ubisoft over the delay of an apparently finished game, but i don't think boycotting their games is very helpful, if it turns out to be a great game and bombs on Wii U then it'll reduce chances of getting future games from them, and this in turn might put off other 3rd parties from publishing on Wii U. Going back to Ubisoft, i know they put out a lot of shovelware [Imagine titles where the name usually ends in Z] but they also have some good properties and publish for some really talented developers. I would like to see a new Zombi U game, or further Assassins Creed installments and Watchdogs on Wii U and if these new titles can attract more Wii U owners then that's good in my book.
(Another) great week for Wii-U and 3DS owners. I already have both of the discounted WiiU games from previous sales, but good news for anyone who hasn't picked them up yet, both excellent games.
I really enjoyed what i played of the first one; as there's no news on a European release, i've still got plenty of time to try to make more progress. I'm a lefty and had no problems with the controls, although i found it helped to use the stand supplied with KI: Uprising.
Definitely want this. I loved Mario Golf 64, and then Toadstool Tour, many happy hours spent playing those. Wasn't so keen on Wii Love Golf, also by Camelot, which felt like a dumbed down version of TT. Hope World Tour is a return to form.
I was planning to get this and was initially dissapointed about the game not being avialable on WIi-u at same time as other formats. After looking at some of the reviews for Xbox/PS3 versions, which are nearly all very negative, then i'm no longer worried. I enjoy the films so it's a shame the game doesn't appear to do justice to the original property, a wasted opportunity.
Have downloaded it and paid for the story mode and My Kong mode. I'm pretty pleased with it, a very simple game, but it's good fun and i feel it will be well worth the money (just under £10). Played the first seven missions in story mode, then you start having to repeat levels as the 8th mission needs 15 medals to play. Not much depth or variety but controls are good, and i like the design of the enemies, even if the environments aren't that detailed.
Good week (for 3DS and Wii U owners). I'll d/l Casltevania first - save states will be very welcome. Will also try TTT; if i like it i'll look out for the retail version (unless the discounted dlc gives a complete verison of the game, which is cheaper). Already got Trine 2 and Chasing Aurora from previous sales. And then the 2F4G demo. I already tried the Wiiware demo and thought it was OK, but the runner game on BitTrip Complete was much better. Unfortuantely, i didn't enjoy the Shifting World demo so i will give that a miss, I found it totally confusing even with the arrows telling you where to go, I just couldn't get my head round it.
@Jogurt, i would expect this is 60Hz as all other 3DS VC NES games (i've played the ambassador games and a couple of the other releases e.g. Blaster Master) have been 60Hz so far, i've not tried MM2 yet though. Generally i like the look of NES games on the 3DS screen (i only have a standard 3DS), the only game i thought looked bad on 3DS was NES open Golf (the shot-meter was too small). I hope the 50Hz issue on Wii U VC is sorted, although I can remember playing games like that back in the day, i can see a massive difference between playing balloon fight on 3DS VC and Wii U VC. After practicing on 3DS (getting scores around 100k - 150k), i smashed my personal best on Wii U (around 260k). Sorry to go off topic. Good review, although a ten is always going to cause a bit of debate. Long time since i played MM2 (on an NES), i remember it being good so i'm looking forward to playing it again, especailly with save states to help me see more of the game this time.
I got my Game Boy within weeks of it being released in the UK with Tetris (pack-in) and Super Mario Land. Both great games, link-up Tetris is one of my greatest gaming memories. My GB eventually broke (D-pad) but i still have the original cartridges, which i sometimes play on Super Gameboy. Loving the VC service on 3DS too - was Molemania the last GB game realeased in Europe, that was in October if i remember right? Hoping more GB games get released soon on VC.
I think most of the criticisms in the review are fair. I like the concept of the game but I found it frustrating because of the dodgy collision detection and the jumping controls are so stiff and unwieldy.
The set-up for d/l'ing tables could be smoother, but it's just a one-off issue. Personally i read a few Miiverse entries before purchase and it was easy to see what to do. I have ZP on 3DS as well and I think it's well worth the extra cost on Wii U (I don't have PS3/360/i-pad) to play the tables on the big screen, i never got comfortable with playing ZP on 3DS.
I played through the GB version (using a fair few save states on the last level) on 3DS, which is a pretty poor game, but it gave me some closure as i'd played it back in the day on the Konami Collection on GBC and was never able to get very far into the last level. So i'm looking forward to playing this one on 3DS too. Nice tie-in with the new game as well, i'm looking forward to seeing the review for that too.
In terms of content and value for money, Super Mario Picross (SNES) (900 points on Wii's VC) and Picross DS (it's widely available fairly cheaply) are better options. This is still a good game, but could perhaps be considered Picross Lite, given the maximum puzzle size is (like Picross-E) limited to 15*15, and the content can be fully completed in well under 20 hours. The Micross is a good mode for beginners, as the review points out they are very easy.
Haven't had too long on the game yet but loving every minute of what i played. So far i've finished the Gift Shop (intro), Prospector (minecarts), Adventurer, and The Twins' (Mwah ha ha!) sections. Monk, and whatever final level(s) still to do for my first playthrough... OK, so the game is not perfect and some of the flaws pointed out in the review are valid, but im enjoying the game so much they haven't bothered me. Expecting to replay to get all painitings and play all characters sections. Then hoping for more games from Double Fine in the future.
Nice to see more classic Sega stuff on 3DS. Talking of which, its been ages since there has been any new Game Gear games added to VC (i'm in Europe). Hoping more come soon and Sega haven't abandonned their support of the 3DS VC (outside of Japan).
Well worth 30p, thanks Nintendo! Balloon Fight is really good fun for short play sessions. For upcoming VC releases I think the user interface, being able to play on the gamepad, ability to re-map buttons, save states, and Mii-verse integration all add value to each game. It's seems a no-brainer to get all of 7 these 30p releases, even though i have most of them already - several times in some cases.
A bit on the fence about this game. I thought Warioware Inc (GBA) was brilliant, it was well structured, the controls were perfect and the microgames were a lot of fun. Rather dissapointed with Smooth Moves (Wii), i found the motion controls incosistent, some of the microgames were a bit dull and the structure of the game was generally awkward, when playing outside of the main (very short) story mode. So i'll be waiting for reviews of this.
I would be interested to see how the Flashback update turns out. I never got round to trying out Flashback when it was originally out, mainly because I didn't like Another World. I had AW on Amiga - it was a very nice looking game but i found it boring and frustrating to play. I did like other games from Delphine - Cruise for a Corpse and Operation Stealth were both fantastic, albeit very different styles of game to Flashback and Another World.
Looking forward to trying this one out. Played through the first two Monkey Island Games and a number of other Lucasfilm adventures on the Commodore Amiga so i don't mind if some of the gameplay mechanics sound a bit old-school. I'm sure Miivese will be helpful to avoid some of the frustration if i get stuck - I assume Miiverse wasn't an option for the reviewers given how quickly reviews have been posted on some sites, including this one.
Picross E-2. Love these sort of games, got through the first Picross-E game fairly quickly (just over 15 hours). I also recently finished Super Mario's Picross (SNES) on Wii's VC, which was a bargain for 900 Wii points as it had very nearly 300 levels including a large number of bigger puzzles (up to 25*20) available.
Will try the Vampire Crystals demo and might get the game if it turns out good, thought it looked good from the video and NL's review. Will wait for reviews of the two 3DS games.
Sounds like a similar set-up to the Marvel Pinball demo on 3DS, but with added options to pay for full tables individually. In the demo each of the (two) tables is fully represented as they would be in the paid for version, but after about two minutes, that's it, game over Whilst I appreciate the excellent table designs in Zen Pinball, I just didn't feel comfortable playing it on the 3DS' screen, so i would probably consider paying again for the tables in the first 3DS ZP just to play them on the big screen especially Eldorado and Earth Defence. Also really looking forward to Pinball Arcade, loved the Williams and Gottlieb Collections on Wii.
From the list, the one thing i'm really excited for is Pikmin 3 Also looking forward to Aliens: Colonial Marines; and then I'm hoping Pinball Arcade arrives in the e-shop sometime soon.
Will d/l the Lego LOTR demo. Not getting Lost Levels again, even though i only have the SNES (cart and Wii disc) update and not the original NES version. Final Ambassador updates delayed till when? Although, imo, the games in most need of an update were done ages ago.
Looks like some more good 3DSware is going to be added to the service, it's been getting some excellent games recently, Fallblox/Crashmo, Crimson Shroud, etc I thought the last remaining ambassador games were supposed to be updated by the end of the year, so unless they arrive next week then they'll be delayed. Not that I'm complaining, personally i was really only wanting the updates to Zelda II and Metroid.
Dissapointing. By the time i get a Wii U, this might already be in the bargain bins, so i might still pick it up if i can get it cheap, because i'm a big bond-film fan.
I already have the first Capcom Classics collection on PS2 so would be quite choosy about which games i get, if they were released individually, would be more tempted by a compilation. One of the less familiar games i enjoyed was Pirate Ship Higamaru. I was pretty familiar with most of the other games from playing old console/computer conversions.
@Guitaranthony, yeah i think there is room for more Sega games as digital downloads or another compilation. I like their games from the era you mention, I think they stand the test of time a little better than the 3D games from the later 80s. Games like Bank Panic, Teddy Boy Blues, Flicky etc. A port of the arcade version of Tac/Scan is a bonus on the European version of Sega Megadrive Collection on PS2 (not sure if it's also on the PS3 version, i know they changed some of the games on that), as well as Zektor, Zaxxon, Future Spy and Altered Beast.
Excellent review, will defnitely pick this one up. The game length sounds fine for the price and quality on offer; being able to play thorugh the game again with your items in tact sounds like a good compromise.
Could turn out to be a good week, expecting good things of both of the 3DSware games, but will wait for reviews first. Also i like match 3 style games and TD style games, so i'll look out for the Wizard Defenders review. I'm not sure what to expect for 200 points tho - some of the recent DSI ware has been pretty poor.

Pikmin 3 was the main reason i wanted a Wii U. Will be purchasing the game day one, whenever that is.

Re: Nintendo Download: 24th January 2013 (Europe)
Picross E-2. Love these sort of games, got through the first Picross-E game fairly quickly (just over 15 hours). I also recently finished Super Mario's Picross (SNES) on Wii's VC, which was a bargain for 900 Wii points as it had very nearly 300 levels including a large number of bigger puzzles (up to 25*20) available.
Re: Nintendo Download: 17th January 2013 (Europe)
Will try the Vampire Crystals demo and might get the game if it turns out good, thought it looked good from the video and NL's review.
Will wait for reviews of the two 3DS games.
Re: Zen Pinball 2 Dev Working With Nintendo To Ensure Smooth Launch
Sounds like a similar set-up to the Marvel Pinball demo on 3DS, but with added options to pay for full tables individually. In the demo each of the (two) tables is fully represented as they would be in the paid for version, but after about two minutes, that's it, game over
Whilst I appreciate the excellent table designs in Zen Pinball, I just didn't feel comfortable playing it on the 3DS' screen, so i would probably consider paying again for the tables in the first 3DS ZP just to play them on the big screen especially Eldorado and Earth Defence.
Also really looking forward to Pinball Arcade, loved the Williams and Gottlieb Collections on Wii.
Re: Feature: The Biggest Wii U Games of 2013
From the list, the one thing i'm really excited for is Pikmin 3
Also looking forward to Aliens: Colonial Marines; and then I'm hoping Pinball Arcade arrives in the e-shop sometime soon.
Re: Nintendo Download: 27th December 2012 (Europe)
Will d/l the Lego LOTR demo.
Not getting Lost Levels again, even though i only have the SNES (cart and Wii disc) update and not the original NES version.
Final Ambassador updates delayed till when? Although, imo, the games in most need of an update were done ages ago.
Re: Nintendo Download: 20th December 2012 (Europe)
Looks like some more good 3DSware is going to be added to the service, it's been getting some excellent games recently, Fallblox/Crashmo, Crimson Shroud, etc
I thought the last remaining ambassador games were supposed to be updated by the end of the year, so unless they arrive next week then they'll be delayed. Not that I'm complaining, personally i was really only wanting the updates to Zelda II and Metroid.
Re: Review: James Bond: 007 Legends (Wii U)
Dissapointing. By the time i get a Wii U, this might already be in the bargain bins, so i might still pick it up if i can get it cheap, because i'm a big bond-film fan.
Re: Review: Murder on the Titanic (3DS eShop)
Makes me want to play Cruise for a Corpse again, a geat game back in the day.
Re: Rumour: Capcom Is Bringing Its Arcade Classics To 3DS And Wii U eShop
Re: Rayman Legends Demo Finally Arrives In The Wii U eShop
Wow, those screenshots are incredible.
Re: Japanese 3DS Lifetime Sales Overtake PlayStation 3
About 32.8 million lifetime sales of NDS' thats about 1DS for every 4 people in Japan, that's pretty amazing.
Re: Review: BurgerTime (Wii Virtual Console / NES)
Would definitely d/l this if it comes over to Europe. Really enjoyed the GB update on the 3DS' VC.
Re: Review: Crimson Shroud (3DS eShop)
Excellent review, will defnitely pick this one up. The game length sounds fine for the price and quality on offer; being able to play thorugh the game again with your items in tact sounds like a good compromise.
Re: Nintendo Download: 13th December 2012 (Europe)
Could turn out to be a good week, expecting good things of both of the 3DSware games, but will wait for reviews first.
Also i like match 3 style games and TD style games, so i'll look out for the Wizard Defenders review. I'm not sure what to expect for 200 points tho - some of the recent DSI ware has been pretty poor.
