Re: Review: Petit Computer (DSiWare)

Would be interested in getting this if it came out in Europe.

Should be a lot easier to use than my old Spectrum +, when i first started using that it was difficult to even type in the commands because it relied on keywords (e.g. G- Goto, H - Gosub, J - Load, K- List, etc.) and each key had about four different commands, so you also had to work out the correct combinations of shift and caps-shift to get the keyword you wanted - took me hours to type-in a listing, and it was usually rubbish (if it worked at all!)

Will be downloading Kirby's Pinball Land and probably Candle Route. Candle Route sounded very interesting from the review here on NL and it's a game style i really enjoy.

Will wait for a review for Planet Crashers, or better still a demo. Wasn't that impressed by Mutant Mudds (demo), i found the difficulty in the levels offered in the demo was all over the place. The first two levels were a boring plod, then i couldn't finish either the 3rd or 4th levels, i just couldn't get the timing of those dissapearing platforms right and kept falling to my death. I realise the demo is only offering a sample of the game but i just didn't enjoy it much. Oh well, the demo saved me £8.10.

"...Captain Syrup returns to exact revenge. She steals most of the treasure from Wario's castle as he sleeps..."

Guess i need to put in some more time with Wario Land/SML3 before i start on the next one, all i got at the end of WL/SML3 was a bird house, which made me laugh

As several people have already said, this is an excellent game. It's very accessible for a strategy game as it has a detailed tutorial and gradually introduces new gameplay elements across the first couple of levels. It gets very intense in later levels. Oh and it even shows the time while you play!

@Philip_J_Reed

OK, fair point, Zen Pinball is quite close in price and is availble through the e-shop, so i can understand that people might consider that as a better option. I haven't actually played Kirby's Pinball Land, but have played Zen Pinball, which is a very good game, although i found it a bit dificult adjusting to the screen size.

Still planning to get KPLif it gets a European release - depite the low review score.

Never heard of this game before but interested in it getting it based on the review - again i'm hoping this gets a European release.

Off topic - i really enjoyed Gargoyle's Quest too, it was very tough at first but once you get further into the game, the power-ups make the journey much more manageable.

Still planning to get this if it gets a European release.

I find the comparison to Metroid Pinball and Zen Pinball in this review a little unfair. It's a much older game on less capable tech. I still enjoy some computer pinball games from this era - Dragon's Fury (MD) (aka Devil Crush) and Pinball Fantaises (Amiga) are two of my all time favourite games, so I will get this if/when it becomes available.

Looking forward to this. Love Picross puzzles, played through whole of Picross DS and Mario's Picross (VC/GB). I hope they put in control options for both stylus and button controls like the DS version had - I much prefer the button controls with the zoomed out view over the stylus controls for this game.

Re: Review: NES Open Tournament Golf (Wii Virtual Console / NES)

Good review.

I'm surprised that people are calling this game unplayable/broken, it just takes a bit of practice. I have the original cart of this game, and my ambassador copy. The 3DS does make it tougher to start with because the meter gets seriously small on the 3DS's screen and the pointer moves very quickly even on low powered shots, but after a bit of practice you can control the shots with great accuracy. The other difficulty is the lack of feedback on the greens (although this is because of the original game design), it makes putting very difficult to learn at first.
After some practice the physics/ball movement are great and you can really get a feel for how the wind, terrain/lye, slice/hook, club choice etc. will affect your shot.

I also really like Gameboy Golf, the meter is so much easier to see (and moves slower), obviously because this is originally designed for a handheld. It's a nice change of pace and a bit easier than NES open golf, though still provides a decent challenge to get on to the leaderboard. It plays much more like the original NES golf. Again the physics and ball movement are very good and consistent. Main downside of GB golf, is almost no extra content over the 36 holes, and no multiplayer (yet...) but I think it's a decent cheaper option.

Agree with NimH37, on Little King's Story. Although it doesn't use music, which is newly composed for the game, the arrangements used fit with the game so well and really enhance the story telling and setting of the areas/levels.

I quite enjoyed Castlevania Adventure back in the day, i still have it on the 1st Konami Collection for the Colour Gameboy. I think it gets a bad write up because people compare it to the NES titles; OK it's not as good as those, but still not a bad game. Main problem is it's a pretty short game with only four levels, although the last level ramps up the dificulty compared to the rest of the game.

I'm hoping this will be the first of many Konami GB VC releases, they had some excellent titles accross GB/GBC.

Will d/l the Mutant Mudds demo, seen mixed opinions of this game, so I'm glad i'll be able to try this out...

Happy Birthday Atari!
I think i'll play some Atari Anthology (PS2) over the weekend in recognition of this.
Some great games on there - Gravitar, Centipede, Missile Command, Space Duel, Tempest, Asteroids, Atari Video Cube, Yars Revenge
& not so great... Fun With Numbers, Football, Home Run (in fact most of the sports titles have not aged well at all)

Re: Interview: Farsight Studios - Pinball on Wii U, 3DS and Kickstarter

RetrogamerFan

@Sean
System 3's website (whilst the delays were ongoing) kept talking about improvements being made to the game, which was causing delays.
The camera system used in the Williams Collection is greatly improved and also the response of the nudge function is quite different between the two collections, again I much prefer how it works the Williams Collection, plus some added music. The Wii verison of Gottlieb Collection is a straight port of the PS2 game (with motion controls replacing joypad input). It looks like additional work was done on the Wii WPC game, although I don't know for sure without seeing the American Wii (or PS2) version, which may have accounted for the initial delay between the American and UK releases.

As you have said there were clearly other problems, which would seem to be with System 3 or their distributor, as the game had a series of missed release dates before it finally got released.

Absolutely love the game so was very happy to finally get a copy.

Re: Interview: Farsight Studios - Pinball on Wii U, 3DS and Kickstarter

Lots of interesting points raised in the interview.

Looks like it might be a long wait for the 3DS version, although i'm not sure whether i'd want it on 3DS. I found Zen Pinball quite awakward on the small screen and would be concerned this might have similar issues.
I would be very interested in a Wii U version, assuming i get a Wii U. Loved the Gottlieb (PS2 and Wii) and Williams Collections (Wii), although it was a very long wait for the Williams Collection to be released here in the UK on Wii. Not sure if the delay was down to Farsight or System 3.
