Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Dev NetherRealm Confirms It's Shifting Focus To "Next Project"

@90sRetroGaming It’s literally a dream come true for MK fans like us! I’ve probably watched the trailer about 10 times already haha.

Fingers krossed they include Trilogy (and hopefully Gold), as well as the likes of Mythologies and Shaolin Monks. But MKT alone (N64 and PS1 versions hopefully- perhaps exclusive to Switch/PS respectively?) would be the cherry on this already awesome cake for sure!

SO looking forward to perfect emulation, tons of content and all the ‘making of’ videos/archives. DAY ONE! 👍🏻

FINALLY, finally it’s happening! I’ve wanted this for absolute years. Arcade versions, plus the console versions, plus the awesome documentary/archive content. All handled with total TLC by the best studio imaginable for this kind of work. And I love that more games will be revealed over time. Surely that includes MK Trilogy, Mythologies and Shaolin Monks… Honestly so freakin’ happy this has been announced!

@90sRetroGaming I absolutely agree 100%. What you’ve described is EXACTLY what I’ve been hoping for too. Arcade and console versions of all the klassics, beautifully presented with real TLC in one neat package with flawless emulation. Much like the awesome TMNT release as you say.

Of all these great collections we’ve had over recent years that have graced the Switch, MK has always been sorely missed. If only they could see sense and announce it already!

KILL KNIGHT. An absolutely insane twin-stick shooter. Perfectly judged mechanics, score multipliers, cool aesthetic, flawless controls and a rocking soundtrack. Bit like a top-down, full throttle Doom where movement is key, but in shapeshifting horde arenas. Very decent performance on Switch. Deliciously addictive, devilishly difficult. It’s great!

Re: Balatro Removed From European Nintendo eShops Due To Ratings Switch

RaptorRed

Yeah, thought so. Must be super frustrating for the devs given that the game was cleared before release. I can understand some indecision maybe from the ratings board during their initial review, yet allegedly they themselves confirmed their concerns were “unwarranted”.

Now POST-RELEASE they seem to have changed their minds again? Are boards like PEGI allowed to do this after certification? I mean it looks like they can, but AFAIK this is pretty unprecedented.
Will PEGI be compensating the devs for potential loss of sales as a result?

I’m inclined to side with the devs here given their detailed statement and wish them well. I’ll be buying this game as soon as it returns to the eShop!

Re: Review: Balatro (Switch) - Devilishly Compelling Cardplay, And A Clear GOTY Contender

@Picola-Wicola Same here, I’ve just searched the UK eShop this evening and get no results?

However! It appears in my Switch news feed, and by following that link to the eShop you are indeed taken to the game page, yet it says:

“Not Available for Purchase”
🤔

I sincerely hope this game isn’t clashing with some BS gambling laws at the last second (for absolutely no reason)? Because clueless officials can do this sort of thing…

Anyway, whatever it is I really hope the devs solve it quickly! My wallet is ready!

Re: Soapbox: As A 'Slay The Spire' Addict, I Can't Believe I Almost Missed This 2023 Gem

Thank you Kate for championing this fantastic little game! I remember you highlighted it in a previous article some weeks back (a ‘What We’re Playing’ or similar) but it’s criminal how little coverage this gem has received in the mainstream gaming press.

In fairness I hadn’t heard about it myself before reading EG’s 5/5 review leading up to Christmas. As a huge fan of StS it was a very easy (full price) purchase for me on Switch and I instantly fell in love with it. The design, the pixel art, the audio/music, the mechanics: perfect. Obviously takes a lot of inspiration from StS (spent my first few runs just spotting all the similarities!) but in a very good way. The movement system (first ‘single axis deckbuilder’) is great and really sets it apart; nothing like a perfect dodge then nailing the enemy ship with a critical counter!

And as you say, the characters themselves are brilliant, the little exchanges they have amongst themselves (and enemies!) are so cute and endearing, not to mention very cleverly in context too as you pointed out. Perhaps they took a small leaf out of Hades’ book for this and the evolving storyline the further you play, but it totally works. It’s certainly holding my interest still many runs and unlocks down the line!

Also if any of the devs are reading this, can I just say I really appreciate the option to slow down the background scrolling. It’s a nice touch for longer sessions in handheld mode.

TLDR: I love this game and it’s earned its spot in my daily rotations amongst the very best indies. It really deserves to do well!! Everyone needs to tell their friends about it

(Literally created an account to comment in this. That’s how much I like this game!)
