Re: EU - 6th June - No Virtual Console Games!

Quimby

@ Cooldeud - You are right, I am Nintendo dependant. I prefer to own one console and buy all the games I want for it. I buy all the games I am interested in Full price on release day and thats why I am so pissed at the moment. Last gen the gamecube had slow and questionable releases and so I bought an Xbox. in about 6 months I bought between 40 and 50 new release titles for it and still play a few of them (Conker, Destroy all humans 2, Mercenaries), but the Wii, which I have had since release day and I only own like 20 to 30 games for it, and on top of that, guess which game is in the slot? Ultimate Spiderman. (GCN title)
I guess I'm just a bit pissed about the way it appears that Ninty hates PAL regions.
If Brawl sucks and there are no immediate improvements in the outlook soon afterwards, I'll go Xbox 360. I have wanted to play Viva Pinata, GTA4, and Mercenaries 2 anyway.

Re: EU - 6th June - No Virtual Console Games!

Quimby

Oh, and to all of you saying "well, you got actionloop, so deal with it"
Since when should Wiiware and VC be interconnected. I know you all must be sick to death of the old "not enough VC releases" rant, but... we WERE promised 4/week, and how often has that happened?

Re: EU - 6th June - No Virtual Console Games!

Quimby

@manicfatty - Yeah, my DC has been getting a fair amount of use recently too.(got Lack of Love and Street Fighter A3 a while back) I hadn't seen you post 4 a while, now I know why.
@cooldeud - Im Australian, there HAS been 2 weeks with no VC. & I realise that me boycotting won't bring down their corporationn, but it will save my disappointment. If you expect and want nothing, you wont be as disappointed when you get it.
Im just sick of going into a games store with a bundle of cash after a LONG week of work (which may be why I'm cranky), stand there staring at a wall full of games and deciding to leave emptyhanded due to crappy games. I have bought every Nintendo console to date (not GBA though) and the one that I had the most faith in, the Revolution, has let me down the most overall. Nintendo has turned me from an avid gamer preordering games way before they even have their final names, into a casual Wii Sports gamer. I havent played a new Wii game for months except for Wii Fit, but that doesn't count as it eats testes. Sorry for the long rant. Ninty has till December.
@ Cypher- Thats a good point re: translation issues and you are right, I don't care. With the amount of money Nintendo makes out of VC they should have a crack team of people working on VC releases including translators. Four games a week my left nut, at least if there was 4 a week, they would be close to having an excuse for the absence of Pop. Also VC games dont get translated, only the manual. (Yeah I know there is at least 1 exception but I dont care)

Re: EU - 6th June - No Virtual Console Games!

Quimby

This is outright bull. I am so sick of Nintendo. First no brawl until everyone else in the world is sick of it so no online play, then no VC for us aussies last week, because we dont deserve C64 games, now this. Nintendo has to get over thier superiority complex and satisfy some of the desires of the gamers for a change.
If they dont sort their out by december, I'm going to 360 and boycotting future Nintendo releases. (I'm not selling my wii because my VC games arent worth when selling the console)

Re: Protöthea

Quimby

@Thewiirocks - Ever play Mars Matrix on the Dreamcast? It is far and away the best SMUP I have played. Bitchingly hard though.
I love my DC.

Re: 100 WiiWare Games Currently In Development

Quimby

Yeah that would be sweet JK, but do you honestly see Nintendo allowing that to happen? It would be blue light time for us... but the update would be disguised as an upgrade to something pissy like a new image for the Disc channel or something.
Although that would be hilariously ironic - having to waste HD space for a download to block the storage device.
I kinda hope someone is stupid enough to make it though because it would either be ignored by Nintendo (yay for us) or they would finally see that they could make some more money quite easily by releasing a cheap to manufacture yet overpriced, stylish little HD with a cute name and an "only for Wii" sticker on the box. (OK for us)

Re: 100 WiiWare Games Currently In Development

Quimby

"All I have to say is some of us take Nintendo too seriously and invest too much faith in them. I'm sorry if I may have shattered your holy impression of the almighty Big N with my previous post. Who knows, if they don't address the problems at E3 '08 there is always '09 right?"
@Tim - You hit the nail right on the head, we do expect Nintendo to answer all our prayers in a timely manner which may be a bit hard on Nintendo. It just becomes a bit frustrating when we are disappointed so often, especially when the things we want are so obvious and easy to fix.
I think if we were the head of Nintendo, each of us would have fixed these problems ages ago, but maybe there are other issues complicating things they we don't know about. Granted I cant think of any but.... you know

Re: Protöthea

Quimby

Well, it was only a matter of time before a "move with the nunchuck, shoot with the pointer" top down shooter appeared and at first glance, although pretty, this seems a bit empty.
I may be wrong, but it will take a bit of convincing to get me excited...
Lost Winds has become a benchmark for wiiware titles for me, and unless a game looks like it could match the creativity or pure unbridled fun of LW, I will pass it on by. I have already paid for 2 VC games I dont want, and with no way of selling them on, Im just left with a distinct feeling of regret.
I want Raiden...

Re: 100 WiiWare Games Currently In Development

Quimby

Oh, so we can just delete the crappier files and redownload them at no extra cost to us??? or we can just shoot them across to our superfast SD cards and zip them back over when we want to play them???
Awesome, I really don't see the need to make use of those little usb slots at the back of my Wii for an easy mass storage soloution when I could be re-experiencing the joy of watching my mate Mario run endlessly across my screen, scaring the crap out of me at random when he hits those damn blocks.

Re: Pokemon Puzzle League

Quimby

I downloaded this game simply because I remember seeing someone playing it on a display cabinet in EB games, and thinking it looked cool.
I'm not totally sold on this game as I have SOOOO much trouble getting even a single chain happening during stadium matches, but I just cant stop playing...
I love the university and am amazed at how hard some of these puzzles are. (which kinda explains why I'm so crap at the main game.)
The 3D mode is a bit lame, but a nice change. (my best tactic for it is to just scroll around pressing the button like mad.)
If your wondering if you should download this game and you ever enjoyed playing columns or Bejewled, go for it. You'll find a suprising amount to do here.

Re: WiiWare Publishers Lament Release Date Shambles

Quimby

Ah, memories.
I mean would it really be Nintendo without the secrecy and eccentric third party interaction?
I intend on sending a pleasent little email to our friends at the big N, stating the following gripes.

  • Lack of storage
  • Lack of release dates for online services
  • Not being able to chat whilst enjoying online games (although I wouldn't expect this to ever happen, because of the verbal abuse issues - I mean it is Nintendo, the guys who wouldn't let us kill nazis in Wolfenstien, or see blood whilst ripping a man's head off during Kombat)
  • The need for a progress indictator during downloads instead of counting those freaking coins (they could even just have the "coins" counter from super mario) - him hitting the blocks always scares the crap out of me, as I wear headphones while I play.
  • The need for an update to the internet channels flash player.

Re: EU VC Releases - 30th May - Samurai Shodown

Quimby

Just downloaded Puzzle league and although I was hesitant to buy it, it rocks!
I didn't think it would be my kind of puzzler but you guys were right, it is a solid game.
Only drama is that its a bit stressful, I cant seem to get the hang of nailing chains on the fly... the puzzle uni is great though. I didn't think they could make the puzzles that friggin' hard

Re: Nintendo Channel Finally Comes to Europe

Quimby

Freakin' Sweet. I have been hanging out for this sucker since the Jap launch.
I'm gonna try out all the demos, even the ones I own, then I'm gonna watch all the Shigeru interviews, then the Satora ones, then all the game previews, and then... ummm ..?
Well I guess thats it, but SWEET!!!!

Re: Review: Defend Your Castle

Quimby

@ Jona - how old are you? Reading you're comments makes my head hurt. I had to read this one several times as my brain refused to process it.
MayB it tym 2 4mat ur cumputa homes.

Re: Review: LostWinds

Quimby

OK, just finished Lost Winds 3:19 with 24/24 treasures.
I had planned to give out my email address so people who didn't want the surprise ruined for them wouldn't have to accidently read it here, but screw it.
Wondering what it unlocked?...
Me too. I was kinda expecting something to pop up on screen to celebrate my obvious greatness, but no.
So I looked around to see if any secret areas had opened up and I couldn't find anything out of the ordinary.
So lastly I descided to beat the boss again to see if that helped, you know maybe some extra story panels or something... Nope.
So for those of you out there wondering if you should be bothered tracking them all down, I enjoyed searching for them (the map is freaking huge for such a short game) but I probably wouldn't have bothered if I knew nothing happens.
The way to play this game is to savour it and take your time. It is the perfect de-stressing game.

Re: TV Show King

Quimby

I can see this being a mild "Chef's Love Shack" minus the only things I ended up playing that game for... Ass-teroids

@Bobjenkins116 - That is the busiest Avatar I have ever seen. What is it?

Re: World of Goo WiiWare: Exclusive Online Co-Op

Quimby

I procrastinate way too much before I buy a game so I have had several thousand points doing nothing for ages.
Of the games i own (Yoshis Island, F-Zero X, SFT2, SSF2, Pokemon Snap, King's Knight, Punch Out, Picross, and Lost Winds) I only deleted Yoshis Island. If I get desperate I'll ditch F Zero X, so the space issue hasn't bothered me too much.

If it is online and supports chatting, it will be a great way for sexual predators to locate sexy children while enjoying the finer points of interior decorating. ACE!

Re: Beer Pong - College Drunkeness Is WiiWare Bound

Quimby

Yeah, thats a bit suspicious... but if you and you're friends love it, it must be cool!
I haven't actually played or know anything about this game, but I can say without a doubt, that it will be one of the best wiiware titles we're likely to see and it will definately destroy the boundaries of our imagination, blur genre lines, and warp minds. A must buy!!!
GOOD JOB! AND EXCELLENT IDEA!
If you enjoy alcoholism and substance abuse, this is the game for you.
Giraffe.

Re: Review: LostWinds

Quimby

@KnucklesSonic - It is a beautiful game and the gameplay is so good that you will probably beat it in a day or two, ignore it for a week and then start all over again.
The map is deceptively large and encourages exploring really well.
You end up trying to get to a out of reach ledge, just to see whats up there, not because you feel obligated to find something in particular.
I haven't had time to look for my 5 remaining treasures, I'll try tonight.

Re: Review: Critter Round-Up

Quimby

@SonicKnuckles - No, not Wave Race, it was some third party "Tony Hawk" style 'extreme' hoverboarding game. It sucked but grew on me.
Also, I wasn't attacking the game, (because as you said I haven't played it) I was only saying that 4/10 isn't as bad a score as everyone seems to think.
To me the score Corbie gave it says "Have a very good look into this game and make sure it's your kind of thing before downloading" instead of "This game is dog crap and the developers should be rounded up and shot".

Re: US VC Releases - 26th May - Metal Slug

Quimby

In reference to all the chatter about Killer Instinct, The rating would not be a major problem, the problem is the fact that it is a RARE game.
Microsoft bought them out a couple of years ago which sucks for us now, but gave me the most played game on my (original) XBOX...
CONKER RELOADED (awesome game if you havent played it,you must buy an XBOX and a copy NOW!... Go go go)

Re: Major League Eating - New Screenshots And Video

Quimby

This game could very easily be the best thing to happen to Wiiware.
If this, Blackjack, critter round up and all the other games of their breed flop as badly as they rightfully should it might make publishers think before they pump this crap out.
I just pray that would be enough to prevent Wiiware from going the way of mobile phone games, especially given the sick pleasure our beloved big N gets out of only letting new games dribble out onto the VC.
(The way they are to handle Wiiware is to be seen, but having no VC games released along side Wiiware launch seems to say they will be intermittently connected )

Re: Family Table Tennis

Quimby

I think there is a good chance of me getting this, depending on the review.
I really liked the wii play ping pong, but nobody else seems to be able to play it properly (or boxing strangely enough. I LOVE wii sports boxing) and the single player is dog poor (same with the billiards - awesome 2 player, terrible single player)

Re: Review: Critter Round-Up

Quimby

@Corbie - Hey don't feel bad about having a strange attraction to a game you don't actually like- it happens all the time to me. I forget the name of it but I once bought this horrendous hoverboarding game for the 64 second hand, tried to give it a chance but to no avail, so I sold it. Then about 2 weeks later, I ended up having to track it down again and paid $25 AU for it. I then played it for 2 - 3 months solid before selling it for $5. lol (I got over it for good)
Also you brought up a good point re: your rating for the game.
People are acting like 4/10 is a terrible score, where it really just lived up to less than half of it's potential. If anything, I feel some of the other reviewers have been a little bit generous

Re: Review: V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack

Quimby

@Pegasus - nice job on the review, especially given the topic...
It would have been easy for you to just slam it and be done with it, but you did a great job of staying impartial for the sake of those few who would enjoy it.
I laughed when you started to explain how to play, you know a game is a bit lacking when the reviewer starts to delve into the finer points of the rules.
I will honestly be looking forward to your next review and once again, good job.

Re: Review: V.I.P. Casino: Blackjack

Quimby

What the hell were high voltage thinking? Blackjack?
And why waste precious space on the 3d presentation? I mean its pretty, but redundant. Why not use that space to include poker or something usefull?
I don't really understand gambling sims in general, but blackjack has got to be one of the least exciting choices... Strange.

Re: Review: LostWinds

Quimby

@ Everyone complaining about the length of this game - I take a different view.
It was the perfect length for me, as I very rarely finish games that are too long and so I enjoyed seeing the end for once.
Even though I loved every second of this beautifully crafted game, I fear I may have grown bored of it after a few hundred repetitive screens as there is only so many different puzzles frontier can make.
This game is a MUST BUY for anyone even slightly interested, a magical introduction to Wiiware. Good work Frontier.
2.58 with 19/24 treasure items. (I will be looking for the rest to see if it opens anything interesting up. I doubt it but will post what happens)

Re: EU VC Releases - 16th May - Third Hanabi Festival Week

Quimby

I'm with you captain banana.
I like the idea of obscure jap games, but when they come out they all seem to be crappy SMUPS.
They may be good SMUPs, but how many do we need?
Cho aniki, star parodier, parodius... to me all exactly the same game.
I got sick of SMUPs early Mega Drive days. (with the exception of Mars Matrix )

Re: Square-Enix Changes Its Mind About The Virtual Console?

Quimby

Screw Square Enix.
Super Mario RPG works on DreamSnes...
For being this greedy I will never buy one of thier games again (no big loss- not a fan of thier FF or mana type series').
Yes Jogurt, I agree it is a business, but gaming (especially retro gaming) is quite a nostelgic niche' and if SE cant pander to peoples wants even though it requires almost no real effort (free money) because they think they can make more with a remake.
I did quite enjoy king's knight, but I will buy no more.

Re: Square-Enix Changes Its Mind About The Virtual Console?

Quimby

How stingy ARE square-enix?
"Oh, we are considering maybe releasing a remake of this game"
So, who cares? Give us the original and then, maybe, if you put some effort and creativity into the remake, people will buy both.
What is the point of remaking a game if all you change is the graphics? Add some of the more recent changes in gameplay to the classics and you get a familiar, yet fresh experience.
Money grubbing wanks...

Edit - I agree with most of what has already been posted on this page (as I said essentially the same thing), I just didn't bother to read the other posts untill afterwards

Re: North American WiiWare launch games

Quimby

Wow, that sucks.
Oh well, I only really want My Nintendo Channel anyway (DS Downloads). I'm not too hopefull for the future of Wiiware, I'd rather a Sega Saturn VC to be honest.
I had hoped that Wiiware would become a forum for retro remakes and psedo-sequels of old classics (motion sensitive Space Channel 5? Wiimote pointer oriented Virtua Cop/ HOTD 1? A version of MK64 with course editor?).
I know those examples are a bit far fetched, but you get my point.
Instead, I fear Wiiware will simply be crammed full of cheap promotional games (eating contest?) and dodgy old flash games you wouldn't play for free on the net (that fish eat fish game (shudder)).
Shame.

Re: Wii SNES Controller Hits Japan

Quimby

Sorry Kelvin- I agree with Damo. The PS controller was a horrible little lump of cheap plastic. I don't know why, but I could never get immersed in a PS game because of it. Except maybe Hogs of War (only reason I would ever consider a PS)
Best Controllers - 1. Saturn (3D pad even better) 2.N64 3. DC
Worst controllers - 1. Original Xbox 2. GameCube 3. Atari 2600 (It was much better to plug a MegaDrive 3button pad in and use the B button rather than using its awful clicky stick)
