Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo Have A Refund Problem?

ObsidianEleven

@SwitchForce I reference you to my previous comment, where I said I'm done wasting my time with you. You are arguing points with me that I never made, as I also previously explained in my other replies. You can't take the hint, so I'm simply going to ignore you. Bye.

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo Have A Refund Problem?

ObsidianEleven

@SwitchForce
You, once again, clearly didn't read what I had written. Nothing I have said included anything about how people shouldn't take responsibility for their actions.

You call me naive, but your justification for that is that you're under some misbegotten belief that I have stated, anywhere in anything I have written, that I control content. Wtf?

You make absolutely no sense, and I'm done wasting my time on someone who lacks any kind of reading comprehension, or someone who clearly fabricates versions of statements that never happened.

Have a good one.

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo Have A Refund Problem?

ObsidianEleven

@Yorumi

"well for 1 it can actually be fairly time consuming to create a demo. It can be difficult to cut out a piece of a program. That said steam's 2 hour policy actually solves this problem."

Steam's policy does solve the problem, and personally I'd be happy to see something like that implemented. The counter argument is always how some people will abuse the system when playing shorter games.

The counter-counter argument, is some games really should have more content added to them in the first place, though.

Perhaps what Dragon Quest XI did with it's demo would actually be the ideal solution. Give people the introduction to the game as the demo, then if they want the rest of it, that's when they purchase the full game.

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo Have A Refund Problem?

ObsidianEleven

@SwitchForce

"1. making demo requires time/labor$$$ to create from the game itself-this is not so simple as talked about..."

It does cost money, and I never stated it was 'simple'. Yet somehow, some companies manage it. The reality is, demos (or free product samples, in other fields as a for instance, that also cost a company money to produce and distribute) can help convert sales. I've done this many times with products I believe in. It works.

"2. Pure Rubbish here. There is no such so long as the game hasn't been opened to play for Digital games. They are ready to go when bought."

You clearly didn't read what I wrote. "Ready to go" doesn't mean 'opened and played'. I mentioned using a digital authentication the first time a game is launched. This would have to be done through Nintendo's servers, for instance. They would then have, on their records, if a game had been digitally 'authenticated/opened', to play, or not, after it had been downloaded.

This would resolve instances where people had bought the wrong thing incorrectly. This is what I specifically mentioned.

Sure, it may be a consumer's own fault for not always paying 100% attention when this happens, but sometimes people make mistakes. If you help a customer when they make a mistake, you retain more business and good-will.

"a. Physical will still be sealed and can be returned if unopened for the purchased value-opened can only be exchanged."

You mean, almost like introducing a system that would digitally authenticate if a game had been 'opened' or not?

You also say "opened can only be exchanged", as if you believe it is somehow okay to do this at retail, but then not digitally also? Advocate store credit for digital games that have been opened and played then.

"3. Calls into question Buyers ReMorse is what this is."

That's a completely naive perspective. You're basically stating that 'buyer's remorse' covers every single instance where someone might seek any kind of reimbursement for something they had purchased. There are always outlier cases, exceptions to any given rule.

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo Have A Refund Problem?

ObsidianEleven

It's a pretty simple thing to solve really, and only requires two things to make it work fairly.

1. Make providing a demo of a game a mandatory requirement. giving people the opportunity to see if a game feels right for them. I've certainly bought games in the past after playing a demo, that otherwise I would probably have not bought. If the game is good, this would only increase potential sales.

2. Make a full refund entirely possible, so long as the game hasn't been opened to play. Make it so that the first time a digital game is played, it has to be opened with online validation, which shouldn't be an issue as you have to have an internet connection to download in the first place. There can be no arguments as to whether a game had been opened or not then, and protects people who might accidentally buy the incorrect version of a game for instance.

Re: FIFA 21 Costs £45 On Switch, Despite Being Another 'Legacy' Reskin

ObsidianEleven

I honestly don't have a problem with EA releasing a re-skin and charging for it, the price they're asking for is too much though, as an only option.

By all means, sell FIFA 21 at £45, for those people that don't have FIFA 20, for example.

For all the people that have the previous season's version, sell an update as optional DLC to upgrade to the 21 version, at around, say, £20.

Re: Wonderful 101 Kickstarter Backers Hit With Customs Charges And Handling Fees

ObsidianEleven

The import tax was always going to be a thing, I'm good with that.

Not sure what Royal Mail actually do for the £8.00 handling fee though, other than force people to pay it if they want their package.

The worst part, their site is the biggest POS I've ever used. It took me over an hour to load a few ****ing pages in order to pay and get the game delivered on Tuesday. I thought we were supposed to be living in 2020, not 1998.

As soon as I've got the game, I feel like emailing them and charging them a handling fee for my time wasted. Probably about £8.01.

Re: The Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection Doesn't Include A Switch Game Card

ObsidianEleven

@Ventilator MK11 killed it last year (pun intended, I'll see myself out) and already surpassed SFV's total sale numbers. Saying that though, SFV has still sold over 4M units, so it's not a huge slouch.

I'd expect MK11 to overtake Tekken 7's 5M+ untis within a month or two, now Aftermath has released.

I've actually had more fun with MK11 and have more time in it than any other fighting game for a long while (though I play it exclusively on PS4 now).

Re: The Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection Doesn't Include A Switch Game Card

ObsidianEleven

@HalBailman
The Starlink download increased to something like 9.4GB with the last patch. I can't remember exactly how much now after removing it from my SD card.

I actually removed any data from games on my SD card that had mandatory installs to be able to play them, in some form, a while ago. MK11 on Switch was another of them. Which I'm not too bothered about, because the hair on the Switch version was horrendous to look at anyway.

Re: The Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection Doesn't Include A Switch Game Card

ObsidianEleven

@Ventilator
1. When the servers go down, you still have access to play a version of that game, albeit without the patches. Unless you back the patch information up. Which is easily done and doesn't take up much storage space at all.

2. As above. Patches take up reasonably less storage space than full game downloads.. and I'd rather spend my money on games, not on SD cards.

3. Resale and the ability to lend games to people.

4. A nice looking box, without a huge big border screaming out saying "DOWNLOAD CODE IN BOX ONLY".

There's still a market for physical games, where the game is stored fully on the media (in at least some version of the game). If there wasn't a market for it, no one would be having the discussion right now.

Re: The Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection Doesn't Include A Switch Game Card

ObsidianEleven

@HalBailman including a small exclusive art booklet or something like that actually isn't a terrible idea, marketed as a 'digital collector's edition' or something.

I think people would be much more on board with that as a practice, so long as publishers were properly upfront with what it actually was.

I just feel what they're doing right now, if anything, comes across as underhanded.

Re: The Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection Doesn't Include A Switch Game Card

ObsidianEleven

@Indielink I get that they need to make money, they're a business. I never have a problem with that.

I'm the type of person who, if I'm treated right, will always pay more for something I want. If they wanted to charge more because they used a larger cartridgr size, and it was reasonable, I'd do it every single time and not complain about it.

The reality is, what they think they are saving by putting the game on smaller sized cartridges, for instance, they're losing from a section of the market that won't buy because of the smaller cards used.

And yeah, full price retail games without a cartridge included are ******* ridiculous.

Re: The Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath Kollection Doesn't Include A Switch Game Card

ObsidianEleven

Absolutely ******* pointless.

I'm in the UK, so this release doesn't really apply to me anyway... but I think I'm actually done supporting any game on Switch now that doesn't include the full game on a cartridge. And on principle alone for them cheaping out on retail releases, not buy those games digitally either. It's not like there aren't enough other games to play.

If anyone is going to get my digital purchase money, I'd rather give it to the Indies.

Re: Switch Joy-Con Drift Claim Must Be Arbitrated, Says Illinois Federal Court

ObsidianEleven

@zitpig "I'm suffering drift problems on the (typically) left stick. Has anyone used WD-40 to fix this issue? Is there a better contact cleaner available (in the UK)?"

I didn't set anyone respond yet. I've recently used WD40 Contact Cleaner on mine, as my left joycon had started to drift slightly.

Seems to have solved it, though it's still early days and I couldn't tell you yet how long it'll last for. Early thoughts are positive though.

Re: Nintendo President Says More Switch Games Are Scheduled For Current Period

ObsidianEleven

There's no new games coming out?

The Switch arguably already has the best game library since the SNES era, and are quite likely to exceed that too.

They only have to worry about games for a single console now, so no dilution between two different platforms.

They also have third parties interested in realising games for their system again, be it ports of classics (which if done right, why not? They're arguably more suited to the Switch than anything 'current gen') or otherwise.

There's also a wealth of indie games available and still coming out on Switch.

The games will come. They always do.

Re: Switch Players Will Have To Wait A Little Longer For Bloodstained's Next Update

ObsidianEleven

I bought the game after the 1.03 patch and gave it a shot.. I wasn't impressed by the port and then held out hope for the 1.04 patch.. I still wasn't impressed and traded the game in.

I may pick it up on PS4 at some point, as I really wanted to like the game and thought it could be perfect on Switch.. but the visuals were a total let down for me, especially considering I could have a better experience in that department elsewhere.

I hope anyone that has this on Switch and enjoyed it, continues to do so though. It just wasn't for me.

Re: The Retail Release Of The Wonderful 101: Remastered Has Been Delayed

ObsidianEleven

@TimboSlice It's a game. There are thousands of people dying during a global pandemic, and you're annoyed you don't get to play your game?

It's not an insult. It's just poorly thought out. They didn't do it to insult you. They didn't actually have to do anything, other than apologise.

I agree that really people should receive a code for the system they purchased it for, if a code is what they're offering. In the grand scheme of things though, it's not the most important thing to be upset about in the world.

Re: The Retail Release Of The Wonderful 101: Remastered Has Been Delayed

ObsidianEleven

@thesilverbrick "But the physical backers could be sent download codes for the platform they actually chose the game for. Doesn’t that make sense?"

Agreed. It had already crossed my mind that it was weird they're only doing Steam codes. I'll probably sell mine tbh. If it had been a Switch code, I'd probably have used it while waiting for my physical copy.

Re: The Retail Release Of The Wonderful 101: Remastered Has Been Delayed

ObsidianEleven

@thesilverbrick We should still be getting our physical backer copy before the actual physical retail release. The retail release has also been delayed. The only release not affected, is the digital release.

On the bright side, we're all getting Steam codes that you can either choose to use, or just sell if you wanted. Which then makes your Switch version much cheaper.

I don't see where the kick in the teeth is here? It is what it is, it's not like they've gone out of their way to do this on purpose.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 4th)

ObsidianEleven

On Switch, I've just picked up Velocity 2X.. I hadn't played it for years (on PS4 and Vita) and it seems at home on a small screen.. for £3 something, it's a complete bargain and cannot recommend it enough!

Also playing FIFA. Yes, I prefer FIFA on Switch to PS4. Shock.

On PS4, probably Dirt 2.0 (anyone with PS Plus should totally pick this up when it's available), and Monster Hunter World.

Re: PlatinumGames Admits Wonderful 101 Kickstarter Had Nothing To Do With Raising Funds

ObsidianEleven

@Snakesglowcaps

The Switch goal was $50,000, which they were always going to hit. We knew it, they knew it. They clearly already had it ready, or about ready, to go. The game coming out (at least on Switch) was never really in doubt.

Also, as far as I recall, they said from the start that it was expected around end of April.

Kickstarter was clearly targeted for two reasons; to create hype, and to gauge interest in the IP on other platforms. Quite a few people called it from the start.

As for price, I guess that depends where you are in the world. I backed at about £35 for the physical copy inc. shipping. You seem to be in Canada, so about $60 CAD according to XE. I don't think that's too unreasonable really.

Re: PlatinumGames Admits Wonderful 101 Kickstarter Had Nothing To Do With Raising Funds

ObsidianEleven

@Snakesglowcaps to be fair, it was pretty much a certainty that the Switch release goal was going to be hit, after they set the goal for it ridiculously low.

To me, it always seemed like it was about gauging interest, specifically interest about launching the game on other platforms.

I'd also much rather back a Kickstarter like this, when you know that you're not going to be waiting forever for the game to finally release, and the quality of the game is already a known quantity. Especially when they've priced the game itself reasonably.

Re: A Valentine's Event Is Now Live In Switch's Most Romantic Game, Mortal Kombat 11

ObsidianEleven

The story is easy to follow! People die. They come back in the most convoluted way possible. They die again. Along with everyone else. Time displacement shenanigans. They die again. They come back in the most convoluted way possible. People with green magic energy. More time displacement shenanigans. Merging with yourself turns you into a God. More time displacement shenanigans.
