Re: Review: Pro Evolution Soccer 2008

DDE, get a map, look at the Southern Hemisphere, and tell me what sport is played religiously there, by a fair bit more than a handful full of people (no prize for a correct answer).

The only football game I will play is Mario Strikers- I just can't enjoy the professional game. I'd love to see Konami take some of their development skills and make a Rugby game using the Wii controls.

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Thats what I mean about rolling though- you don't need to run, so there is no risk of tripping. Try it, it works in Brawls.

Personally, I think the SSE is decent both with and without a friend to play with. I reckon what the problem is, is that people are in such a damn rush to do it so fast. I enjoyed both playthroughs I've done. But I could go on in an endless loop contesting this point, so I'll just drop it now.

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Nanaki

I think a lot of people are placing too much emphasis on the value-added features that are stuffed into this game. In essence, SSBB is a multiplayer fighter that you and your mates duke it out on. Things such as the SSE, trophies, events, are basically an extension of the game.

The angle you have to see it from is that nothing has actually been taken away from the series- things have merely been added to it in great volume. At the end of the day, I'd be more than happy with this game even without all the added stuff. Heck, the first Smash Bros was an amazing title and that was literally the bare bones of what SSBB is.

In countenance, I know you can say that by adding these things in, its expected that they should fall under the same impeccable quality of the series, but I really do beg to differ, even on that point. If you don't like the SSE, ignore it- Play classic mode, or All Star mode instead. Even with the SSE taken away, there is a phenomenally huge and well thought-out game there- something that will never be superseded by another title in the genre. Seriously, name me any fighter (and, yes, I do class this as a fighter) that has provided more that is on offer than SSBB... even with the SSE taken out of the equation.

Grab four mates round, put on SSBB, and you are having a blast.

As for the tripping thing: learn to use the shield roll

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Yes, I agree nothing can be perfect- but a perfect 10 implies that is the maximum score you can give something. A flawless game is impossible- unless it is something like 'Watch the non-changing line on the screen game' (TM). But, nethertheless, it is still possible to give a title a 10/10- because we all know there are going to be some limitations.

Even if the collecting doesn't interest you, there are still 41 stages to brawl on- even more once you get used to crating stages (which I have, quite sadly, done by looking at the stages that have not appeared from the past games.

Wi-Fi on Nintendo is poor anyways- and it'll be expectionally busy for these next few months.

As for tripping- thats what shield roll is for.

I personally liked the SSE- it gives a good opportunity to get used to each character. I certainly feel that the combat has improved, even if it is slightly slower than Melee (I'd point people towards the first SSB if people really want to see what slow is)

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Nanaki

For me, this deserves a perfect 10. I'm a massive fan of the SSB series- both the N64 and GCN games were my favorite titles on their respective platforms. I really thought that there would be nothing else to improve on, but they seem to have defied all odds and made the game even better than Melee. If I had to sum it up in one word, I'd say 'sharper': The battles, modes, and AI all seem to have gone through an extensive upgrade.

I can't find a fault in Brawl- I really can't. There is so much packed into the disc, that I have the distinct feeling I won't have even completed it by the end of the year.

It took me 18 hours to get used to the game and unlock all the characters and stages. Now I have the events, stadium, all star, classic, and co-op to do. The disc is packed to the brim with AAA content.

So I'm afraid I have to disagree with you Icy, SSB is a perfect 10.

Re: Review: EA Playground

Looks like a nice idea for the younger generation. But I think it wouldn't hold my interest for long.

Nice to see some games aimed at the younger generation too.

Re: The Year of Wii

Nanaki

The PS3 has a long way to go before it takes over the 360.

Microsoft have a huge head start and the best online community. Atm I am only slightly tempted to get a PS3. I'll get one eventually, but there are still no decent games for me to fork my money out on.

Re: Manhunting Manhunt 2

Nanaki

I think the argument is that you watch a film with no involvement- you actively kill people in games.

But thats not to say I agree. Personally, I think its a load of tosh blaming games for something that is the country's fault.

Re: Nintendo Criticise Developers

Nanaki

To be honest, I don't mind ports. After all; if I don't like them, I won't play them- A marvelously simple concept that one.

I never would criticise a console, that has so many good games, on the fact there are ports and low quality titles. The PSX and PS2 both had some atrocious titles- that didn't stop them being the best machines of their generation (I'm basing that on sales, no opinion). Your right about a port being better than no game at all Sammy.

Heck, I classify Zelda as a port- That demonstrates the point perfectly.

Re: Nintendo Criticise Developers

Nanaki

Haha, poor Rampage- its been made the villain of the article.

From the sounds of things though, its not as bad a Ninjabread Man.

Unfortunately Nintendo will probably have to live with this. They are the market leader now, and it means they will have a flurry of low-quality titles invade their system. Plus, the Wii is the easiest console (of this generation) to develop games for.

Thank heavens for sites like us; Willing to take on one bad game at a time

Re: LEGO Batman

Nanaki

Basic, easy and fun. Its something you play for the novelty. But nothing too mind blowing. Great one for Star Wars fanatics though...

Re: Review: Super Mario Galaxy

Nanaki

For Ant to give something a 10/10 is reason enough for me to want to buy it, twice!

I will be popping down my local store and getting this one on Sat- cant wait!

Re: Review: The Simpsons: The Game

Nanaki

Ah, great to hear that mate!

Do let me know if you think my review was right. Just remember, the first few chapters aren't all that- but the game soon comes into its own with some great writing.

Re: Review: The Simpsons: The Game

Nanaki

Yeah, the controls really did let the game down a bit. But the fantastic writing countered that.

If controls were spot on, its an easy 8. I think it would need to be more than your usual collect-em-all adventure to get anything higher though.

If you ever run out of AAA titles to play, this is a good option.

Re: Mario Galaxy Hit By Pirates

Nanaki

It's a shame this. Mario is the work of a total and utter genius- the man who many agree is the Daddy of videogaming- Shigsy.

It's sad to see people steal these games, rather than pay the highly decent price the game is available at. I do hope that this doesn't effect the sales of the game, because Nintendo would have undoubtedly worked hard on this game.

When are people going to learn that without sales, gaming can not progress. Stealing games, is in essence stealing from your own future enjoyment.

Re: More Word Controversy

Nanaki

... yeah, because I bet their kids never tried to spell rude words in scrabble. Lets face it, words like lesbo only really have effect in a malicious context- otherwise it is just a word.

Probably some idiot who wants to jump on the anti-game bandwagon and get some compensation money for the deep trauma.

Re: Wii Get Worms

Nanaki

Worms in 3D would be better suited to Wii controls. In 2D they wouldn't really be getting much out of the controls.

I just hope this new game is decent; Worms used to be such an awesome franchise.

Re: Review: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Nanaki

Oh, I have them. Just I never got round to playing them properly.

I think I will get this and then play 1 & 2.

I just hope that i don't get too accustomed to Wii controls and find it hard adapting to the GC versions...

Re: Review: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Nanaki

I really REALLY want to get this. But I have one concern; I am a sucker for stories and I want to know if it is worthwhile playing this if I never have completed Metroid 1&2 on GC. I know you mentioned we should not be put off by it, but does the game provide enough knowlage about the past two installments?

Re: Get Tidy, Get Wedock!

Nanaki

... I am one of those people who like the shiney Apple user stuff.

If this had a charge unit built into it, I would get it.

Re: Hardware Lookback: The Virtual Boy

Nanaki

You know, I never actually knew much on the Virtual Boy until now. I am surprised that Nintendo let something like that pass into manufacture... especially against a machine like the PSX!

I would still love to try one out at some point in time, regardless of how bad it is.

Re: Prime 3 To Launch In August

Nanaki

I do agree that there is a bit of a games shortage atm.

But we have to look at the competition. 360 had an initial dry spell, and PS3 still lacks any killer title (well, in my opinion at least).

I reckon 2008 will be the year the WII truly gets the AAA titles out.
