Re: First Impressions: New Super Mario Bros. Wii

Mach-X

@revolverlink you didn't like NSMB DS? wow. I just beat it recently and I'm going through collecting all the coins I missed, I now only have the three in the final castle to collect, if NSMB Wii is at least as good as the DS version, it'll be the most stellar Mario game since SMW, and possibly wrestle with Galaxy as finest Super Mario ever. And that's a very good thing for us Mario fans, not to mention Galaxy 2 is on the horizon......

@charlie Not bitter at all. I, like other Wii fans come here each and every monday morning to check out the latest available downloads for our region (and other regions). But it gets hard to read the objective posts that actually have to deal with what has been made available when you have to continually sift through the same complaints week after week about people boo hooing that a particular game wasn't released that week, or that 'Microsoft does this' or 'Sony does that'. This site isn't about either of those platforms, so telling us what they do that Nintendon't (hee hee) isn't relevent. Has it not occurred to those who are deathly afeared that X game won't come out within the wii's lifecycle that the Virtual Console service will probably continue on into the next Nintendo console? But here's the kicker, how easy or hard will it be to migrate your downloaded software over to the next console.

Re: Nintendo Download: Pinballs, Fights and Gravity (US)

@stuffgamer 1 - if the PS3 is so great with its ps1 releases, why are you here? Go get a ps3, and lather up in that sony love butter. Whether Nintendo is 'holding back' releases is their business. They are not required to release a damned thing if they don't want to, no matter how much cry babies want them to. It's their business model, their intellectual property, and, ultimately their decision. Deal with it or go over to sony land.

Re: Sony: We Take More Risks Than Nintendo

Mach-X

Why do you guys have to be SO bi-polar? Calling the PS3 a 'giant useless paperweight'? For crying out loud it's a technical marvel, just because you are a Nintendo fanboi doesn't make the PS3 a 'paperweight'. Same with calling the 360 and Halo 'garbage'. Uh, have you checked Halo 1,2,3 sales totals? It's a fantastic series of games that receive rave reviews all over the board from day one on the Xbox. Just because YOU don't like something, doesn't make it 'garbage', especially on the type of scale Halo represents. By the way, I don't own a 360 or PS3. The 360 because I'm waiting for Microsoft to stabilize the hardware, PS3 simply because it doesn't have the exclusives I enjoy. But I would never call either platform 'garbage' or 'paperweight'. Sheesh get some valium.

Re: Review: Sonic the Hedgehog (Virtual Console / Master System)

I have to tow the SMS flag with this game. I'm tired of the bad rap the SMS gets. Look up at the jungle level pic. It easily rivals anything youd see in Super Mario World. And that is an SNES game. Compared to the dead single pixel eye Mario has in SMB3, Sonic is quite detailed and surprisingly well animated for an 8 bit game. Granted, check the release dates, and this version of Sonic appeared 3 years after SMB3. Unfortunately, by 1991, 16 bit was all the rage, and nobody noticed how powerful the SMS was compared to the NES. But this game (and the two sequals that followed) really showed off the SMS graphic prowess, which could easily reach TG16 depths and beyond. The one thing that holds this game back is the SMS 4 channel tinny sound. Also, the simultaneous release of the Genesis version sort of overshadowed the SMS versions. But looked at on their own, the SMS Sonic games have surprisingly detailed graphics that the NES could never touch, it's just too bad it was too little too late for the SMS. From 1986 to 1990 the SMS was riddled with lacklustre atari looking games (Phantasy Star the exception). It wasn't until 1991 that the SMS had the games that truly made it an NES killer, but that was too little too late.

Re: Nintendo Download: Fantasies, Wars and Words (US)

What do you guys smoke before you come up with some of this stuff? How can you define 'difficulty' in a turn based game? Either A is more powerful than B or it isn't. There isn't 'more challenge', there is just more annoying grinding. You can have it. I also have to believe that some of you are tone deaf with rose coloured glasses on your face. The GBA remake has anything BUT scratchy sound. I just did a side by side on my home audio system, and let me tell you I will take the beautiful stringed arrangements and stereo psx quality audio over the thin mono NES sounds any day. And the GBA/PSX remakes brought the original two 8 bit games up to the look and feel of the playstation sequels. There are definately cases where sometimes the original is better, but this ain't one of them. Sometimes food is better with salt and pepper, coffee with cream, and Final Fantasy with enhanced graphics and stereo music.

Re: Fight in the Street on Virtual Console Later This Month

Mach-X

Ok. Time out. Because normally I would never do this. You guys know I hate the 'boohoo where's X game' thing. But where is Rondo. Seriously. I had given up on TGCD support till now. Now you pull the proverbial carrot from your ass. Now I demand to know where Rondo is.

Re: Nintendo Download: Jedis, Drills and Bubbles (US)

Mach-X

Could the admins add a filter that removes 'Nothing for me this week'? I can't think of a more useless thing to post, and if I see that post one more time I think I'll pull my hair out. WHY is there nothing, what are your thoughts about this weeks releases, etc, etc. And cut out the SSB whining. When they release it, you'll play it for an hour then it'll go back in the bin of dustiness like most other VC releases. You people act like getting SSB64 will be the absolute holy grail PINNACLE of your gaming life. GET a life, please. Same with FF1 NES. It's TERRIBLE, and has aged badly compared to the fantastic GBA/PSX remakes. Get one of those already. You'll get beautiful graphics and a sweet remixed stereo soundtrack. Think first post second!

Re: If the PS3 is an F1 Car, the Wii is a Go-Kart

Mach-X

Yea the Wii is a very well designed piece of hardware and it does a lot on a little. It's like how the first gameboy could run 30 hours on two AA batteries while the lynx or game gear would get like 3 hours on 6 batteries. The efficiency of the Wii is really impressive, and a real display of how tightly designed the hardware is.

Re: If the PS3 is an F1 Car, the Wii is a Go-Kart

Mach-X

Here's an interesting comparison. How about instead of focusing on screen resolution, how about a simple comparison of how WELL the consoles are designed. Did you guys know that the wii only consumes 16 watts of power at full tilt? That's less than most CFL light bulbs. Less than 1 amp of current at any time. 750 milliamps to be exact. The wii is SO well designed and ULTRA efficient it uses less power than the first Xbox, and is close to PS2 in terms of power consumption. By comparison the HD twins consume over a whopping 150 watts of power while running full tilt. Over ten times what the wii uses. The PS3 is the record holder, consuming 200 watts, or about 3 incandescent 60 watt bulbs worth. That is near 17 amps of current running through the board, enough to provide one hell of a jolt if you were to touch it, even at 12 volts. In fact, the Wii beats the Energy Star Idle rating by a WIDE margin even at full tilt. Even at idle, the HD twins consume enough power to cost you hundreds of dollars a year so don't leave your ps3 on if you aren't playing anything! Simply having your 360 PLUGGED IN and turned off it still consumes double the Wii in a similar state (wiiconnect24 off). You want a proper comparison? The PS3 is a Cadillac Escalade, 360 a Lincoln Navigator, the Wii is a Toyota Prius. It could run on a couple of 9v batteries, while the HD twins would need diesel powered generators. Don't believe me? Here are the links.

Re: Review: Super Star Wars (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)

Mach-X

I'm ecstatic over this release, and I probably won't even play it. I'm just not a star wars fan. But many others are so in one release we got a major license, a very much wanted game, a sign virtual console ISNT dead, and those reasons alone are enough to celebrate. I guess Chicken Little (THE SKY IS FALLING VC IS DEAD) can go home now.....

Re: Nintendo Download: Monkeys, Musketeers, Cards and Sudoku (US)

Mach-X

Good lord, why are people pining so badly for FF1....it really wasn't all that great in NES form.....the remakes on the GBA/PSX were way better with enhanced graphics and great stereo music....get a grip, I would much rather see the Mega Man series or some of the great arcade classics, Final Fantasy 1 is the least of my concerns

Re: Feature: Tending and Feeding Your Japanese Wii

Mach-X

@Chicken THANK YOU for putting that in such a concise manner. I've tried to explain those concepts to people before, and failed miserably. I'm sick of people blaming sony/microsoft/nintendo when it's differing laws between countries/regions. And as far as a 'planetary clearing house' or 'more simplified ip laws' you are forgetting that every country has differing cultures, and they have the RIGHT to their own culture. For one game to be cleared for every region, it would have to be so vanilla that people would be screaming about that. "WHERES THE BLOOD? WHERES THE PROFANITY? THEY WRECKED THE GAME WAAAAAAAAAAA"

@Shiryu this is precisely WHY Nintendo has region locks. It's the only way to keep certified/rated content in its appropriate region. If they just 'uncorked' it they would face loads of fines/lawsuits from different regions. Heh, it's funny too cause even here in Canada, we use the same region consoles/dvd players as the US, but because our rating system is more lax than that of the US (believe it or not) we have movies that normally are rated 'R' in the US, and they get released up here with a little 'A' sticker placed over top of the 'R' XD. you can peel them off and see the 'R' underneath.

Re: Miyamoto Unconcerned By Rival Motion Control Systems

Mach-X

I get so tired of the 'if the wii were HD' arguments. It's already been proven time and again that screen definition doesn't sell consoles. For the 10% of people who actually know, and are distressed by the 'mere' ED screen of the wii, don't buy one. And quit calling the PS2 the greatest console ever because the first Xbox is HD, yet few games utilized it and fewer still HD packs were sold. For the general populace, HD is not a selling point.

Re: Nintendo Download: Soccer, Pirates and Galaxies (US)

Mach-X

@141 brooks83 you make the most sense I've seen from here yet. People are going to complain no matter what, and I bet most of them don't have half the 299 releases on the VC system. I know I don't have Baseball yet XD. ok funnies aside, I agree I like the weekly spotlight myself, and I do enjoy debating on this forum, but with not one, but TWO new formats (C64 and VCA), you would think there would be some bulk of fresh releases. The lack of VCA releases astounds me. Where the hell is Donkey Kong? or Pacman? Space Invaders? geez those basics should at least have been made available right from the start. BTW, I am typing this on a keyboard instead of my wiimote for the first time. (dunno why I'd never tried just pluggin in my MS wireless keyboard before....doh)

Re: Nintendo Download: Soccer, Pirates and Galaxies (US)

Mach-X

Ok, I had mistakenly thought Phantasy Star was already out, (I have it on my SMS tototek card so I guess I'm used to having it around XD), Comparing how many releases Japan gets is silly because when those systems were new, japan got three times as many games. And my previous comment was quickly typed in using my wiimote, so I did miss a few popular titles. Point is, as far as all the major franchises go, we got them all in the first couple years, more is out than is not.

@bendover - a lot in your list requite multiple licenses that likely won't make it. Hudson (adventure island, rondo of blood) is iffy with its VC support, Rare (dk64, KI, others) is also a problem. Squeenix doesn't want VC releases because it prefers to re-release its games for more money (FF, Dragon Warrior) so your list gets quite a bit shorter. Lost Vikings would require a Blizzard license and I don't know how they feel about VC. And who the hell really wants 7up?
@longtimegamer no I didn't mean that at all. just that looking at what is already out, we've got super mario, sonic, zelda, ninja gaiden, castlevania, and many many others.....all the major bases have already been covered. there just isn't enough star games to ever see a fantastic 10 game week or even a 5 game week.

Re: Nintendo Download: Soccer, Pirates and Galaxies (US)

Mach-X

I dont care about imports, you're not likely to see many of those anyway. What I meant is there aren't many major games left. Majora, Mario Kart, Yoshi's Island, Drac X (import), what else is there? Sure, they could dump 5 VC games a week but they'd be utter junk. Do you really need Tengen Tetris? Wrath of the Black Manta?

Re: Nintendo Download: Soccer, Pirates and Galaxies (US)

Mach-X

I dont know what you guys scream about every week. I just went through the VC catalog and realized almost all the great classics are already on there! There are what, 5 more I want to see? What "multiple releases" are you whining to see? Bible Adventures and Xmen? With 30 download weeks left this year thats one GOOD game every six weeks. Aside from C64 and VCA, there isnt much left in the tank.
