@Tsusasi Europe wasn't as privileged

European launch: October 14, 1999
Blue Stinger
Dynamite Cop
Expendable
Incoming
Pen Pen TriIcelon
Sega Rally Championship 2
Sega Bass Fishing
Sonic Adventure
Toy Commander
Virtua Fighter

Soul calibur, trick style, rainbow six, mk, hydro thunder and house of the dead and others all absent.

To be fair tho it was a reasonable launch. I picked up sonic adventure, sega rally and power stone.

My original post was from memory, not a quick and dirty google.

I don't smoke, but love the comment, very classy

Nintendo were doomed with the virtual boy, then they were doomed when the n64 was using cartridges.

They were next doomed when the game cube didn't sell as well as the ps2. Then the ds with its wacky 2 screens.

I believe the next major dooming was the 3ds then the wiiu not selling enough and the most recent being the switch, which I'm sure will doom us all, lol

Can anyone think of anything I've missed?

There have been much worse launch line ups over the years, the original ds, Saturn, dreamcast, 3ds, ps2 (had a terrible launch line up for such a good selling system) were all awful.

Wii, game cube, n64, original Xbox all had one or two amazing system sellers but had very few launch games.

In reality the launch line up isn't too bad.

I couldn't agree more, prior to reading your post I was thinking that years ago the nes and snes launched and there was almost a mystery around the games. With no internet and no information on tap you had to rely on magazines, word of mouth, the box or some retail assistant for help. Not saying it was better or worse just very different.

Fast forward some 25 years and it's a very different landscape for the games consumer. It would be nice for more information to be provided re the eshop and as each day goes by I kinda expect an article to be uploaded.

I don't think we need to know the ins and outs to a micro detail but a confirmation of 'day one you'll be able to play these snes, nes and n64 games, they'll have save states like this and you can use these controllers' type info would be nice.

Ultimately I think it's a shame that it now looks like the GC won't be on there at launch, not just because of the retro gems we all are potientially missing out on. The reality is that these games along with nintendos back catalogue are already out there and on many PCs!

I think it's a shame that they aren't available legitimately on Nintendos new hardware from the get go, and not just the GC, but a good representation of their whole back catalogue. It should really be a couple of games from each home system to at launch, with a steady constant flow filling it up with new games for each old system every 2 weeks.

These games can be emulated for free, if we look at their entire retro catalogue from game cube back then these games are 15+ years old! Nintendo should be in control of their own back catalogue through their own VC. It sucks that so close to launch we're still in the dark as to how the switch will handle this.

Personally I'm not into emulation via PC and in 2017 it would be nice to play the retro Nintendo games I want on the switch using the controllers out of the box .

It's a shame and a missed opportunity as the classic nes mini highlights how many people feel about this. It wouldn't take much, Nintendo are missing a real easy win here say nes games £1.50, snes £2, n64 £4 and GC £7 and they would sell like hot cakes.

Nintendo could have not just generated some quick and easy revenue, this model would also have made up for and padded out the launch line up for those who wanted more. They could have also generated a new interest in old forgotten franchises and used online interest and download numbers as market research to gauge if its its worth dusting off old franchises for new games.

Don't get me wrong I'm not being negative regarding the switch as I think it looks awesome and I'm really getting behind it in a positive way, but I want Nintendo to succeed and be the presence they used to be. They are my favourite games company and shouldn't be thought of as always catching up or as being in the shadows of Sony and Microsoft
