Re: First 4 Figures Teases Sonic The Hedgehog Title Screen, Coming Soon

I think we share the same general perspective overall, except that you appeal to consumers' personal responsibility and I consider the company’s marketing strategy to be borderline manipulative. Is the company "appealing to" super-collectors or is it turning people with a lack of purchasing impulse control into super-collectors by normalizing it? Ultimately, all advertising is manipulative and companies want to sell their products. I get that. However, I can't shake off the feeling that the company has deliberately created a group in which a loud minority (just a few people making 90% of the posts) with a “You have to buy all the figures - what else is your money there for?” attitude is supposed to convey the image that such purchasing behavior is completely normal. It reminds me a lot of the shell game scammers in many European cities. There are always actors standing around, willingly handing large bills (20 or 50 €) to the shell game players, sometimes winning, sometimes losing, to take away the inhibition of the observer to also throw in a large bill for a game.
Though, maybe me being so critical is just because I am used to quite rigorous consumer protection standards (Belgium / Germany), that are viewed more loosely in some other countries…

@BlueBCA I have to admit that I did this deep dive a while ago but I have not heard anything that led me to believe that anything has changed since: There is the "First 4 Figures Official Collectors Club" which is a group on Facebook. Since I was interested in their products, I joined that group a while back. What I expected was a group where fans talk about their genuine experiences with the products, be it positive, negative, whatever, trade their figures, etc. "Official" indicated that there is some endorsement by the company. However, it felt more like an artificial echo chamber pushing people to buy super expensive figures rather than a genuine collectors club. I quickly noticed that the group was more or less curated by the company, avoiding any kind of bad press. Also I kept seeing posts by people seeming to invest all their earnings into these figures and trivializing it as guilty pleasure. Nothing wrong per se if some people chose to do it that way, but it really felt extremely systematic. Some more digging revealed, that some group members had gotten some kind of ambassador status where they would get figures cheaper as a reward for promoting them so bluntly. To me, this entire advertisement scheme felt extremely foul, which is why I left the group after a while, and have been avoiding their products ever since.

Re: Random: You Can Now Control Your Switch With A GBA, If You Like

Honestly, no one I know voluntarily uses a GBA as a controller even when playing the Game Boy Player on GameCube, although all you need is the link cable (this also works on Game Boy Interface btw). It's just not as comfortable as a proper controller such as the 8bitdo ones or the SNES NSO controller. This is one of the few cases where I would say "authentic" is NOT better.

I just tried it out. Creating a new icon instantly overwrote the one I had been using before and actually am planning to keep using (I use my mii for an icon as it looks just like me). So I had to create that from scratch (pose, background, etc.). A bit strange and annoying...
