Re: Rumour: Yoshi 3DS, Super Mario 3D Land Demo and More

JakobG

I totally predicted a Yoshi's Island 3D when I replayed the game after E3 10.
That game just yells 3D all over the place: Multiple background and foreground layers, platforms rotating on their Y-Axis and the enemy onslaught would fit to a third dimension extremely well.

Re: Analogue Stick Add-On for 3DS Revealed

DAMMIT.
Seriously Nintendo, over 25 years of game manufacturing and you still screw up.
Let this be a lesson to you: Do not overestimate your products, no matter how much people loved the demo at E3. The 3DS is critically rushed.
Weak battery life, high price, flawed design with the gyroscope, meagre launch titles, lacking second analog stick, belated and limited Webbrowser and eShop as well as serious delay on the prepaid cards for your eShop.
And now you're trying to fix those issues by slapping stuff like discounts and THIS ABOMINATION onto your original product because you're sitting on a pile of them and you can't risk any losses.
It's been OVER 25 years now, Nintendo.
I once thought that you are superior over your competitors do to your experience and quality control over your products, but if you keep doing THIS, then I can only predict doom for your company.

Re: First Impressions: Rhythm Heaven (Wii)

JakobG

@14: Alright, I've never played Rhythm Tengoku, but personally, I think Rhythm Tengoku Gold is better. The controls are more unique and they aren't inaccurate, if you have issues with them, it's your own fault. I never have any problems with them. Additionally, I find the games better, as they are based less around language. With exception for Fan Club, all Rhythm clues are based around sound, as opposed to Tengoku, in which a lot games use lyrics as cues.
But then again, maybe everyone thinks Tengoku is better because it's japan only and uses buttons.

Re: First Impressions: Kirby Wii

I can't wait to find out how they tweaked the abilities this time!
I love comparing them between games, they're getting more and more different with every game.

Also, I hope it'll have tons of collectibles, like Squeak Squad.
The color palettes and the ability scrolls really enhanced the game.

Re: Masuda: Playing Pokémon is All About Being Heroic and Fair

JakobG

In all seriousness, I don't think there's anything wrong with the battle system, as it's not the most important part. However, I have nothing against improvements, so I welcome new elements like 2 on 2- and rotational battles (3 on 3 really didn't add anything and just overpowered attacks like Surfer, though). The EV and IV system already added great depth for competitive battles, so there isn't really any need for changing the system.

Re: Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition

JakobG

I absolutely adore this game.
The controls, while obviously inferior to the classic Arcade Stick, are much better than I had expected; the amount of complexity you can put into your moves is enormous, and not even for a handheld device. The online mode is mostly smooth and free of any lag (some people say it surpasses the online mode of it's console counterparts), though crowded with inexperienced fighters who would abuse the light mode (it sadly overpowers every charge character badly) who will ragequit after a lost battle.
The offline content is nigh identical to the one of the home console port, as it provides all 35 characters, along with almost every alternate costume. The graphics are very good and come very close to the original in motion; in the heat of battle, one would not mind the immobile and poorly detailed backgrounds. The 3D, while subtle, really adds to the visuals, however, if you prefer a more classic and solid approach, you can disable the 3D effect completely, resulting in constant 60 frames per second. While I did not have the pleasure of making use of the new figurine mode, I can say a few things. Firstly, I would like to address it's surprising complexity. It actually offers heavy customization of the team and the single figurines, and offers excellent balance; as a matter of fact, it is impossible to win the game if the team is not balanced enough. The game holds multiple hundreds of different figurines that can all be collected with great effort; this feature definitely is not a cheap add-on.

Overall, I recommend this game to anyone who does not despise fighters. Not only is it extremely addicting and entertaining, it also is easily the most accessible entry in the Street Fighter franchise.

Re: Get a Gold Blanka Figurine Via SpotPass Now

JakobG

@13: I don't understand what you are referring to.
It's not like there is only but one chance to catch the SpotPass-update, and the reason for the lack of SpotPass usages is, well, the lack of content; there aren't really a lot of games available at the moment; let alone games that use SpotPass.
However, the first usages have been made; the japanese version of Samurai Warriors recently got DLC in form of an additional battle via SpotPass.
I am sure the 3DS will offer many uses of this feature in the near future.

Re: Talking Point: The 3DS Friends List is Severely Lacking

JakobG

I completely agree, the friend list can be expanded by a lot, and we are basically assured it will; just look at the GUI, the space is just waiting to be filled with buttons that lead to all sorts of cool stuff.
Online Pictochat, videochat and shared activity log can and should be added (though I am pretty sure the first two will happen, seeing how Nintendo implied PictoChat and videochat was in Black & White).
At the moment, the interaction is just sad.
