HVS really did a great job with this one. Still having loads of fun, especially when playing splitscreen with friends. Having played it even more now, I keep getting impressed by all the awesome tech they manage to throw around. Perhaps it's because I'm a programmer myself, but I can really see the craftsmanship shine through here and there. It does so much stuff many players will probably not even see unless they look for it. And as I've said before: it's a real run-n-gun with colorful graphics. You don't see them often these days among all the "realistic and gray" shooters that seem so popular. Here's hoping for a third game, be it for Wii, 3DS or Nintendo's next console!
Can't agree with this review. To me, this game is at least 8/10. It might be because of it's style though. I really like the run-n-gun design. To me, the fact that AI charges instead of hides really makes it so much more interesting than the standard tactical "spot/hit the pixel" type FPS. I want big guns and even bigger enemies which doesn't try to flee from me all the time, and that is what I get here!
Also, Invasion mode is great fun and character/loadout customization makes it even more fun to play with friends, be it co-op or vs.
True, it might not be another GoldenEye Wii, but considering how fantastic that game was I wasn't really expecting that. A very solid and complete shooter it is nevertheless, though the style might not be to everyone's taste.
Some nice stuff there! Conduit 2 is already pre-ordered and Zelda, Dead or Alive and Dragon Quest VI will be soon. That Thor game for Wii looks quite nice as well and I'm keeping my hope up for Green Lantern. Also nice to see FAST: Racing League getting a release date. Now for that trailer...
Oh, figures. No Monster Hunter 3D. Not even a new Ace Attorney. The only new game was that drab looking Dragons Dogma. Seriously, Capcom games are usually very well designed, but that game just screams generic and soul-less. Monster Hunter 3DS will probably come eventually though. I'm still hoping.
Very interesting this one! Certainly my type of game. Rygar / God of War + RPG story / mechanics sounds like a nice mix. Let's hope it makes it over here.
I agree with most points in this review, but I would rank it slightly higher. It's still fun doing crazy drifts and stunning jumps, even though Ridge Racer 3D no doubt is a much better game doing the same things. Graphics looks quite nice too and would have been great had it not been for the dropping frame rate.
Nice, this review made me a bit more interested in the game. I was planning to skip it, but now I might actually get it. There's one thing that would make it definite: single-card multiplayer. Does anyone know if the game can be played with multiple players using a single game?
Cool! Interesting idea. I had something similar on my Palm many years ago and made a few programs with it just becuase I could.
Also, nice to hear more people are still using/have used Qbasic! I used it when I learned programming many years ago. Good stuff! For those interested, I can suggest Freebasic : http://www.freebasic.net/ Its a modern basic compiler based on Qbasic. It pretty much has the same syntax.
@3dbrains: Strange, I can still play Excite Truck with a custom mp3 soundtrack even though I have that update. The photo channel won't play any of my music though...
Hope it will support some more formats, like .ogg, which most of my music is in.
Whoa! Only 200 points? Insta-buy for sure! Looks great and it was some time ago I played a good tower defence game. No word about multiplayer support though? Would have been awesome, but perhaps that is something to do for a second game if this is successfull.
Awesome stuff! I really have to start reading these more closely.
@Wolfenstein83: Very interesting question. It doesn't seem impossible. Would be an interesting reveal on this years E3 : The release of a 3D Display for the Wii. They should be a lot less expensive now so it might be possible to sell as an add-on.
Sad for those who were looking forward to it. Not interested myself, but more popular Wiiware games wouldn't hurt to have around. Still can't believe they couldn't fit such a simple game into a Wiiware release, especially considering what other developers have managed...
I'm interested and will probably get it for that prize. Might not be fantastic, but I like the genre and want to see what it looks like. I wonder if they have improved stuff in it since the US release? Might be slightly better now due to tweaking, which has happened with other games.
I haven't played the first, so I cannot comment on it's gameplay. But I think this trailer is very impressive graphics-wise. I know it's not comparable, this being a rail-shooter and all, but some of these scenes look better than COD: Black Ops. At least from a technical perspective. And this is a Wiiware game. If they can improve on the problems the first one seems to have had, this might actually be really cool. I'm having my hopes up for the moment.
Perhaps, if this works well, Teyon might make a "real" FPS next time. With this engine it could be fantastic, especially if they make it a retail release and can really crank upp all those textures and models a bit.
Finally an article about Other M that I completely agree with! The fact that Samus has feelings doesn't make her less awesome and bad, just more believable as a human character. And as for consistency, I decided to play Metroid Fusion just before getting Other M and because of that I found those accusations very strange. The two games are clearly very similar story-wise. And as you said, there were no negative reactions about Fusion...
I haven't read all comments here, too many. But @LittleIrves; you have a very interesting point which I hadn't thought about before. Regardless what people think of the game it has obviously evoked quite a lot of emotions, which is something few games can boost about...
While the screen doesn't look very good, at least a good developer is behind the game. Red Fly Studios (http://redflygames.com/press/we-can-finally-reveal-thor) did a quite good job with Ghostbusters and Force Unleashed II. Both of them were solid games that felt well put-together. The only thing they don't seem to excel on is graphics, completely ignoring all the advanced effects the Wii GPU can do... But I really hope this game will, like Ghostbusters, get a two player splitscreen co-op mode. That would make me buy it unless the reviews are really horrid.
As I posten on the game's page, this looks great! But what I really hope for to set it apart from other tower defence games is a co-op mode. Two (or more) players work together to build a defence, each having his/her own resources. Would be really fun and might work considering how well Pop Island did multiplayer, with single-cart mode and all.
Wow! This sounds and looks fantastic! And I wouldn't say no to another tower defence game if it's well done. One thing though: Multiplayer! Please let this support some sort of co-op or versus play. Perhaps two or more players could help construct the defence together. That would be awesome!
Wow, this was a surprise! A new 2D Castlevania-esque game. I really hope this will be good. Title screen looks awesome, but the rest of the screens look so-so. But it will probably look better as development progresses, not to mention it will be nicer in motion.
I like rail shooters and this looks very nice, so I'm interested. The graphics are indeed very impressive. I wish they would put this engine to use in a non-rail shooter eventually. But with some more variation (perhaps learning a few things from Ghost Squad) this could be fun. I hope they will release the original and/or this in Europe now. Anyone who knows if they are on the way?
This could be fun, I am thinking about buying it. But I wonder, the game overview says it has support for four players. How does the four player mode work?
Oh, and on another note. +1 to Capcom creating a Wii version of Dead Rising 2 with this engine. While I doubt it will happen, it would look and play sweet! And the limited "useless minion" AI most of these soldiers have wouldn't matter, since Zombies really don't have much intelligence to begin with...
I bought Samurai Warriors 3 a while ago and really enjoyed it so I got this as well and so far I really love it. While it might be a bit repetitive it's far more varied than most games in the genre and plays a lot better too. So I don't agree with the complaints. I mean, people play and like games like Diablo, which barely has 1/10th of the variation and gameplay this has. But to each his own I guess. I also found out today that this game gets really challenging on the Hard setting. I lost to the first boss I encountered... but it was an even fight when I used block/dodge well and chose the right attack for the right moments. I'll probably manage it next time, but still nice to see the game put up a challenge.
Also, a fun fact. Someone discussed why Saika Magoichi is a woman in this game while the historic person was a man. But it seems the name Magoichi was used by many different people and some historic records mention a "Lady Saika". So perhaps Capcom's version of the character isn't a complete fabrication.
I really liked this game for some reason. And for 200 points it has lasted long enough and I still have a few levels left. A successor with more options, variation and levels could be really great.
Sounds great! I really like the fact that I get the entire game at once. I much rather prefer a higher price for a single game than a divided experience for slightly less money a piece. Now I'm justing waiting for the EU release.
Awesome! I have been looking at Machinarium for a while but never got around to trying it. And another four-player game is always nice to have if it turns out to be good.
Looks quite interesting and might be good. But why no second player? It should be easy to add another player to the game. As long as it's a real player that can move around and not just another reticle it could be fun.
Cool! I also bought this game for the Dreamcast and I liked it. It's a good game and quite similar to one of my all-time favorite racing games: Micro Machines. If they fix up a few things for this version, like bigger variation between tracks, higher resolution so it will be easier to see where the next turn is and four player support in the Get Ahead-mode it could become a really great game!
Wow! These are really awesome! I remember a competition was held somewhere on the net with the goal of making a game like this. A few similar things were actually in development, but I forgot about it and never checked what came out of it. Perhaps I should try to find it again. These pictures really made me want some classic 2D gaming!
Yeah! I really like what Rising Star Games do. Zangeki no Reginleiv and Arc Rise Fantasia for me, thanks! Xenoblade and Last Story will most likely be brought here by Nintendo and Namco Bandai probably handles Tales of Graces, but Fatal Frame IV would be another interesting suggestion.
Either way is fine with me. I really liked Jett Rocket as a platformer and I would gladly buy a similar game but with new levels and worlds. But something that expands upon that concept could be great too. The comment is "And maybe in a different way then expected. ". It's not a very strong statement, so I doubt it will be a completely different genre. But we'll see.
I'm more interested in the last comment in the interview : "And be assured the best is yet to come from Shin’en." I can't wait!
