I'm not expecting free VC games for the Switch. In fact what I am expecting is what they did between the Wii and Wii U and just offer a steep discount. What I do want to know is if my Nintendo account will function the same my account for Apple, Steam, Google, Microsoft and PlayStation or every other company in 2017. If it doesn't that sucks but honestly I'm still going to be buying a Switch come Christmas because I'm a diehard Mario fan.
It's because of things like this why I refused to pre order a Switch. We're 3 weeks away from launch and Nintendo won't just lay the cards on the table with regards to the account setup and online functionality.
I think when the dust settles we will see a very good online infrastructure when compared to the WiiU. But if we compare it to Xbox Live for example I think we'll be seeing a lot of things lacking. I think this is just how Nintendo are, they're like an overprotective parent who refuse to give their almost grown children any freedom. In saying this I know that as soon as Super Mario Odyssey launches I'm getting a Switch.
I would bet it's $60 for a year. Keep in mind for that you get the privilege to play last generation ports or maybe SF2. I mean I loved that game 20 years ago. Or maybe I get a free trial of a NES game I've already paid for twice in the last 10 years. But I think what will really make it worth it is a 10% discount on digital games so I can spend $50 on a SD card to store them. I can handle a subscription I just have to feel like it's value for my money and sadly I don't have faith in Nintendo to deliver.
If it's anything other than what they did with the Wii U I'll be shocked. Needless to say I'm not buying Punch Out or Super MARIO Bros 3 for the third time in 4 years. Even if it's only $1-$2.
This is probably wishful thinking but it would be nice to get a free Virtual Console game every month with the subscription. That would put them on similar terms as Sony and Microsoft.
As someone who has played both Skylanders and Infinity with my daughter I'm surprised they lasted this long. Both franchises were incredibly exploitive of there target audience. If they had of adopted a every second year strategy and not locked away 50% of a the content on a full priced game behind a paywall they might have lasted. Which is why I think Amiibo will last they just add little extras to a game.
Awesome list. I'm glad to see Lego City getting some love, I still go back to it every month or so. Also NintendoLand is in my opinion a much better pack in than Wii Sports. I really wish the Wii U had sold better because then we would have gotten more games with asynchronous multiplayer. Every time I hear someone sing the praises of multiplayer experiences on PS VR I think to myself NintendoLand did something very similar 4 years ago.
It pains me that nobody is talking about Lego City Undercover. That was an awesome game, it had a good use of the gamepad and some of the funniest writing in a game I've ever played. Plus watching my daughter drive a garbage truck through the city was priceless.
I'm not holding my breath on ports. But does anyone really want a repeat of the Wii U. We got ports of 1-3 year old games with missing content. I mean Mass Effect 3 didn't get the DLC on Wii U even though it was almost a year old when it released.
If it's going to be using microSD that's fine as long as it ships with around 200gb internal. I think that should be more than enough because if the games are on cartridges they won't have to install to a hard drive and take up space like PS4 or Xbox One. All internal storage will be used for is patches and saves.
I honestly haven't been this excited by a Nintendo product since the early screen shots of Super Mario 64. I still want to find out price, launch lineup and battery life before I fork over my money, but I'm very optimistic that it's a return to form for Nintendo.
I think you are giving Nintendo too much credit. I say this as someone who has owned every console they have put out, I can see the NX launching with region locks and accounts tied to hardware. I have zero faith in their ability to build any sort of online infrastructure.
I remember thinking the VB was so cool when I first saw pictures of it in Nintendo Power. But I was a kid and couldn't afford it, then it vanished before I ever got to play one. Motion sickness be damned it's the only Nintendo console or portable I haven't tried.
I would love another NintendoLand type game. My family and I still play the Animal Crossing, Mario Chase and Luigi's Mansion games quite regularly. I honestly think if more games had used the gamepad as well as it the Wii U might have caught on better.
Please, please, please Nintendo don't release your new flagship system with a 2 year old chipset. Unless you want to get second rate ports of PS4 and Xbone games. I'm starting to sense the Wii all over again. My NX will sit and collect dust until the next big first party game comes out, because I any big AAA games I can get for PS4 and they won't have features or DLC missing.
I could be wrong but I don't think they have ever released a Zelda and main Mario game within 6 months of each other. I would love another Wave Race. I played that game to the literal death of my N64 controller.
This game and Chrono Trigger are my 1A and 1B favourite games of all time. I remember taking 3 days off from school and driving around with my older brother just trying to find a store with a N64 in stock.
I'm probably the only one who thinks this but for me it's Metal Gear. I loved the old NES ones. I just don't have the patience for 45 min cut scenes and convoluted storylines.
I can't say I'm that upset or surprised. I felt the first one gave decent value with toy box and 3 play sets included. It just got steadily worse after. 2 shipped with one play set which took about 45 min to beat; and 3 was basically an eshop game. Anything beyond toy box wasn't included. I mean we didn't even get the complete toy box there were add ons for that. It just struck me as Disney trying to milk every last cent out of the concept before it went the way of plastic guitars.
If they give me an account that isn't hardware locked I'll be happy. That is the main reason I haven't bothered with a New 3DS, I can only have one system per account. Also I'm not worried that it's not on par with games with gold or PS plus because generally I don't have an interest in 3 indies or 3 year old games every month.

Re: Nintendo Outlines Pricing Range for Switch Online Service
Great news. Except in Canada I assume $30 US = $50-$60 CAD. Oh well, at least my health care is covered.

Come on Nintendo! I know you're moving into mobile but please don't treat your new console as a free to play iOS game, complete with in app purchases.

It's sad when I look at these lists and realize how few of the games I've played.
Re: Poll: How Important is the Virtual Console, and GameCube, for the Nintendo Switch?
Seeing as the GameCube is the only Nintendo home console I never owned I really want it supported in the eShop.
