I think the Wii U is coming out at a bad time. Many Nintendo fans will have only just bought the 3DS plus the price of the PS3 and 360 will continue to drop.
Then when Sony and Microsoft release their next gen consoles Nintendo will be a step behind again unless the Wii U is a lot more powerful than the small glimpses we've seen thus far indicates.
@MasterGraveheart True but at the same time the system needs to have the power to run the games. Otherwise developers won't bother. This is a lesson Nintendo hopefully learned with the Wii.
I don't think the lack of Gamecube compatibility it too bad of a thing. How big are most GC games, about 1 gig? It wouldn't shock me to see the pick of the GC litter on the Wii U equivalent of the virtual console.
It's an interesting idea but there are still too many potential customers who don't have a reliable/fast enough internet connection to make the switch to download-only yet.
Perhaps High Voltage employees should be spending their time working on games rather than childish antics. If they weren't happy with a review then take the high road and ignore it, don't bring more attention to it.
£99 makes sense at this point if they hope for the Wii to compete in anyway with the PS3 and XBOX 360 whilst people await the arrival of the next Nintendo console.
Nintendo might finally be embracing third party developers but will it be reciprocal? That'll all depend on how well the new Nintendo console sells at launch. If it does poorly Nintendo may be left stuck in a similar situation to the one they are in now.
This is an expected PR move. They're not going to come out and say that the Wii is a dead system or else console sales would drop even more than they already have.
The thing that worries me about Nintendo's next console is that it could be coming out too soon. I feel like it's only in the last year or two that people have really latched onto this generation of console and they may not be looking to fork out another $300 or $400 in 2012 when they already have multiple consoles in their house.
In this current economy it's something of a risky move. I know personally it'll take some convincing for me to buy the system after the lack of quality games on the Wii.
It looks like the Wii is trying to "finish" with a flurry of RPGs...it's a shame they didn't come earlier though because there's been a real black hole of good RPGs on the Wii.
If the Wii 2 is to have seriously more powerful graphics than the PS3 and XBOX 360 then it will need to use blu-ray technology to be able to store the required gaming code. A DVD won't cut the mustard at that point. An alternative could be to dispense with discs altogether and make games download only but I think that's a little too risky at this point.

Re: This is the Wii U Controller in All Its Glory
It's hard to judge without using one but it looks too big to get a good grip on to me. No innuendo intended.
Re: Even Mercenaries Need a Fresh Change of Clothes
Barry Burton looks like he should be a runner in The Running Man.

Re: Check Out The First Hour of Pandora's Tower
I skimmed through the video and the game looks very interesting. I'll probably pick it up when it comes out.

Re: UK Pre-Orders Bag a Gold Sleeve and Poster for Ocarina 3D
I'm not a fan of swag to be honest, especially this kind. Give me a bonus mission or something, not a poster I'll just leave in the box,.
Re: Pandora's Tower Trailer is Very Japanese in A Good Way
I really hope that this and The Last Story get released over here. They're two games out of three that I've really been hyped for on the Wii.

Re: Nintendo Expected Higher 3DS Sales
Most people still haven't accepted 3D technology in general yet. It may be that the 3DS is just a little ahead of its time.

Re: The Ignition Factor Lights Up Virtual Console on Friday
This reminds me of a more adult version of a Fireman Sam game I used to play on the C64. Ahhh memories.
