I think that's a pretty awful list myself. Any true connoisseur of the era would have far more Mega Drive and PCE/TG-16 games. I get having games like Mario World and Link To The Past in there, but Contra 3 so high....yet Contra Hard Corps nowhere to be seen? That's hilarious. It's the same formula, but without the awful overhead levels, more stages, more bosses and more playstyles. Same as having Space Mega Force so high, yet no MUSHA, MUSHA is the same Compile formula, but done better and with way more creativity. This chap may have played all these games, but he he has a very beginner grasp on them and appraising them. This is also a sad individual who has no friends, as the lack of quality multiplayer games in there is shocking.
@Jiggies No you don't. It's boring because there's a complete lack of challenge and it's got an empty, vapid world. Attention span has nothing to do with it, that's just a sad fanboy cope.
The review and comments are garbage. This is a great little fun game, no epic masterpiece but it plays brill and is a good laugh to boot. Easily an 8/10
Damn, that's a lame line-up really. Both Zelda games are boring, and there's a ton of games on there from previous generations. Persona 5 Royal & Persona 4 are the only games which are top tier. And if Hollow Knight and the worst version of the extremely bloated Witcher 3 is in your top 30 you're doing something very wrong.
The bias in this article is laughable. FF16 is shallow trash, but TotK is not only copy-pasted to a large degree from BotW, but monotonous AF and no one in their right mind rates it a 10/10. It's literally a prime example of a "one and done" game
Nah. It's a 7/10 game. Feels too familiar after BotW, and the fact that legendary weapons break just like normal ones sucks. Combat is often just better off avoided, and this whole review reads like typical Nintendo paid-for hype again tbh. Frame-rate issues alone should prevent it from getting a 10 tbh.
"Megadrive hardware just isn’t up to the task"? It handled Afterburner 2 more than fine, fantastic game. I'd suggest that the poor quality of Super Thunderblade was more down to the limited memory of the cart at that time Damien.
@CanisWolfred Honestly, this review is a joke. Everything you say about Star Ocean is spot on, I've no idea how they gave it a 9/10. For me it's a 4/10 game at best. Like you say, dull as dishwater and almost pointless combat.
Hilarious review. "The release of Star Fox and its integration of the Super FX chip successfully distinguished the SNES from the competition, at least until Sega cunningly placed its own nifty processor into the Mega Drive Virtua Racing cart a year later. However, a year is an eternity in gaming".....yet X-Wing absolutely blew Starfox away only a few weeks later from every angle lol.
@twztid13 Yeah that'll explain it dude. It's a weird site now in terms of reviews anyway IMO, as this one shows why. I'd give Live-A-Live the original version 5, maybe 6 out of 10. I'll be amazed if they've upgraded it enough for an extra 2-3 points. I mean 8/10 is the same as Tales of Berseria.... https://www.nintendolife.com/reviews/nintendo-switch/tales_of_vesperia_definitive_edition
The original Live-A-Live isn't in the same league as either. So I don't know how a few nice visuals suddenly make it as good as those. Like you say no consistency.
The sites still good for news, but anyone with a Twitter feed can do that job now. It's reviews are definitely declining though (although still nowhere near as bad as IGNs lol)
@twztid13 @gracetrack There's not a reviewer I trust anymore tbh. I was reading through this site the other day and they rated Gley Lancer for the Megadrive 7/10...
Now I know there are additions in the re-release, but I own(ed) both and now way is there 2 points difference between what is essentially the same game apart from a few gimmicks. There's some serious bias/backhanders/BS going off here. This site has become just as unreliable as the rest and is full of it.
8/10? If it's anything like the original game that's a very generous rating. Square always get overly-hyped or praised by these lot anyway. It's like some weird cult.
@Gracetrack Well said. It's like when people try to credit Chrono Trigger for being the first game to have combo attacks. It clearly wasn't, yet this myth still exists. Rewriting history is just strange. Well spotted.
SEGA version is definitely better than the SNES one. The SNES one is still fun, but how the F has this reviewer gone with Nintendo? This explains it all.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75PX1jFqZm4
Also "with the exception of Gunstar Heroes, this is easily the most action-packed platform shooter available for the console".....how to say you haven't played Contra Hard Corps, without saying you haven't played Contra Hard Corps. Mega Turrican is nothing short of amazing, but Hard Corps is right up there with it.
Damn you guys absolutely SUCK at game reviews. I mean like you must get only around 20% anywhere near right. The game's amazing and gets all it's key elements right.
Possibly the best Beat 'Em Up of all times (2 is a better entry point, but the gameplay and challenge is better in 3)....8/10 lol. Honestly, you guys reviewing these games are so bad at it.
If by "beat" you mean get bored senseless of it, than 30 hours. Actually beating it for posterity took around double that. Disappointing game, and barely a Zelda game either. A direction I do not want to see Nintendo go in again.
Good review but "There aren't many games from 30 years ago that you can truly say have stood the test of time"? Seriously? I'd say there's hundreds. I play more retro than I do modern games. Most modern games are 10 hours worth of gameplay hid behind 100 hours worth of BS to get to it.
Good review, great game. Gives back more the more you play it, with the harder difficulty levels getting really intense and fun. Megadrive version with CRT is the best way to play it though. The game really doesn't need all these additional Switch hand-holding options either and the emulation version isn't gonna touch the OH CRT TV experience.

Re: Review: EarthBound - A Quirky, Cosmic Adventure Bound To Warm Your Heart
Wild score. It's a 7/10. It's practical elements, such as the inventory, really bog it down.
Re: Review: Super Double Dragon (Super Nintendo)
@JamieO Great facts
Re: Review: Cybernator (Wii Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)
@Peppy_Hare Eh? it's a cakewalk.
Re: Review: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (Super Nintendo)
Haha, what?!? This game is awful. Not a patch on Mario World. Hilarious review.
Re: Review: Abathor (Switch) - Retro Fantasy Hack 'N' Slash Is Great Fun With Friends
Complaint about the jump-weight is ridiculous. Yes, it is a bit heavy, but barely noticeable and soon forgotten after a few minutes.

Re: Review: Super Castlevania IV (Wii Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)
"Best traditional Castlevania game"? Ha ha, give over, Bloodlines on SEGA Genesis is significantly faster, tighter paced, and better all round.
Re: 50 Best Nintendo Switch Games To Play Right Now (2024)
@Jiggies No loss to me.

Re: Review: Bramble: The Mountain King - Solid Puzzle Platforming In A Horrid Nordic Mythscape
"6/10, performance issues", yet ToTK gets 10/10 and no mention of performances issues there lol. AAA bias AF
Re: UK Charts: For Goodness Sake, Zelda: TOTK Is Number One Again
The bias in this article is laughable. FF16 is shallow trash, but TotK is not only copy-pasted to a large degree from BotW, but monotonous AF and no one in their right mind rates it a 10/10. It's literally a prime example of a "one and done" game

Nah. It's a 7/10 game. Feels too familiar after BotW, and the fact that legendary weapons break just like normal ones sucks. Re: Review: Vortex (Super Nintendo)
How TF has this bag o' ballacks got such a good score? lol
Re: Zelda: TOTK Is The Sixth Game Ever To Get Perfect Scores From Edge And Famitsu
Thank God I ignore opinions such as those. My library would be full of trash if I bought into them
Re: Review: Terranigma (Super Nintendo)
10/10? lol. As if. Decent enough game, but get real.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Super Mario Bros. Movie, And They're All Over The Place
Sounds more bad than good .
Re: Review: Super Turrican 2 (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)
It's really not that good. Each stage if full of copy-pasted ideas which, whilst fun at first, grow old fast.
Re: Review: Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)
10? Lol. Some serious nostalgia juice being ingested there.
Re: Review: Super Mario All-Stars - All That Glitters Isn't Necessarily Gold
Good review. SMB1 sucks ass on SNES

Re: Review: Star Ocean (SNES)
If this is the best which the SNES has to offer, than the SNES sucks at RPGs. The gameplay here is lame

Re: Review: Prince of Persia (Wii Virtual Console / Super Nintendo)
9/10, really? I mean, it's a good game, but steady on. Flashback and Blackthorne are both better...does that make them 10/10 games?
Re: Review: Splatterhouse 2 (Virtual Console / Sega Mega Drive)
This is a flat-out bad review.
Re: Mini Review: Gleylancer - A Brilliant 16-Bit Shmup Sparkles With Mod Cons
@Funneefox You're having a laugh aren't you? It's one of the easier SHMUPS of the era.
Re: Review: Phantasy Star III (Virtual Console / Sega Mega Drive)
From this review I'd have money on it that said reviewer hasn't played through all PS3's generations.

Re: "Naughty Strip 'Em Up" Waifu Discovered 2: Medieval Fantasy Scores A Physical Switch Release
Nintendo really have no shame now do they? They probably jack off to this with one hand, whilst closing Youtubers down with the other.

If by "beat" you mean get bored senseless of it, than 30 hours. Actually beating it for posterity took around double that. Disappointing game, and barely a Zelda game either. A direction I do not want to see Nintendo go in again.

Complaining about the lack of a password system for a game this short lol.

@Dragonslacker1 No idea on this version, but on the Megadrive it's simply pressing the button A.
