These really don't feel like an FPS. It's more of a FPA (first person adventure). And they are hard, but not hard in the sense that you get killed easily, but in the sense of exploring and solving puzzles.
"clicking on an object will automatically make Guybrush do the correct thing to it....don’t let that fool you into thinking the game is any easier than the previous instalments in the series though"
Sorry, I am going to let this "fool" me into thinking that this game is easier than the previous installments. It sounds more like an interactive movie than a videogame. I loved the list of verbs you could choose from in the old games.
"This is a whole lot less fiddly than the 'SCUMM' interface used in the first two Monkey Island games, where you had 9 different options (Such as “look at,” “close,” “open” and “pick up”) and you just had to try various things on various objects."
This way of playing was not "fiddly". The actions that worked were the ones that made sense.
I agree with you. I am not saying that reviews should conform to anything. There is nothing wrong with a reviewer giving a game a high or low score if that is what he really feels the game deserves.
My point is that for someone considering buying a game that they haven't played before, they will be best served by looking at the average reviews of that game. That's the whole point of Metacritic. The highest reviews and the lowest reviews are probably written by fanboys and overly critical people, respectively. By looking at the average of what everybody thinks, you have a better idea about how good a game really is.
Of course I don't think Metacritic should influence people reviewing a game. All I am saying is that since this review falls at the extreme low end of all reviews for this game, it should, perhaps, not be as trusted as reviews that fall in the middle of the spectrum.
I didn't say that it would be bad, I just implied that I would be disappointed if this was the case since I generally don't like games that young children like.
I don't think that Link looks any older in this picture than he does in Ocarina or Twilight. The art style's a little different and he looks angry, but I wouldn't say older or more mature.
Remember there was an article on here a few weeks ago that quoted some other website as saying that we would get SMK in early to mid June? Perhaps they were right. I bet we will all get it in June. Majora's Mask came out in all regions except NA at the same time, and the only reason NA didn't get it was so they could wait for the 300th game. Now that we have 300, there's no reason to delay this one.
I think you're only partially correct. While people no doubt get better at games with practice, the Zelda games have definitely gotten easier. Just look at the hearts (life meter). In recent games when you get hit by certain enemies you only lose A QUARTER OF A HEART. In earlier games you would lose more life. Also, I think the dungeons and the puzzles in them are generally easier than they were in the past.
I think a "wider age group" means that it will appeal to 3-8 year-olds instead of just 3-5 year-olds.
EDIT: When I first read this I interpreted "wider age group" to mean that the game would try to cater to an older audience since Phantom Hourglass so clearly catered to young people already. However, after more consideration, I realize that "wider age group" means an even younger audience. Crap. It is being dumbed down. I only hope that Nintendo will not do the same thing with the new Wii version, but I'm pretty sure that they will.
You're right, OoT does have some dark moments, but Majora's Mask is pretty much always dark. You can look up and see the moon getting bigger, pixel by pixel. Also a lot of the people you talk to have some kind of problem. Finally, in the final hours before the moon hits, people are desperate and taking shelter in the face of an apocalypse.
Nintendo has said that the Zelda team has been working on a new Wii Zelda. Plus, Twilight Princess came out a year before Galaxy, so I think it's Zelda's turn to have a sequel.
It is pretty surprising that we didn't get Super Smash Bros. today. I only hope that Nintendo doesn't decide to give us that instead of Majora's Mask for the 300th game.
Just like stories in books, stories in games are sometimes good, sometimes bad. If a game tells a good story and tells it well, it should definitely be regarded as highly as literature.
If Nintendo is really going to wait until the 300th game to release Majora's Mask, they could at least give us more than one game per week so that we don't have to wait five more weeks. It wouldn't be that hard, just give us four C64 games and Majora's Mask next week, for example.
10/10 indeed. Not only is this my favorite Zelda game, but my favorite game of all time (I've had this avatar since the site first allowed them). I'll be very surprised (and disappointed) if North America doesn't get this on Monday.
I just downloaded The Last Ninja and the screen flickers constantly. This is the first VC game that I've had this problem with. Is anyone else experiencing this?
For Christmas 2006 we got Super Mario Bros. For Christmas 2007 we got Donkey Kong Country 3. Christmas 2008 = Majora's Mask. And I don't care that Japan hasn't gotten it yet, it could still happen. We got DKC3 before they did.
This may cause Nintendo to release more/better VC games before the SD card update takes effect. Since reading directly off SD cards will encourage more people to share their games with their friends, I think that there will be at least a slight drop in the number of unique VC game buyers after this update. So, Nintendo will want to make sure they can get as many unique buyers before the update and may choose to release some heavy-hitting games. Does anyone agree?
Does anyone know how many WiiWare games have been downloaded compared to VC games? I'd be willing to bet that VC downloads are handily beating WiiWare, and not just because WiiWare hasn't been around as long. It seems that Nintendo is (foolishly, in my opinion) putting VC on the back-burner and trying to push WiiWare. Perhaps if I am right about the numbers, Nintendo will, in time, realize that people want more VC games and will reverse the policy of slowing VC releases which they've had since the beginning of 2008.

Just preordered on Amazon for $46.99. Looking forward to it!

Wii Motion Plus drumming. You won't even need the drum kit. Just hit where the imaginary drum would be.

Alas, another great franchise has been kid-ified.
Re: Review: Bit.Trip Core (WiiWare)
This game is awesome. I've gotten to the boss of level 2 twice but couldn't beat it yet.

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)
Out of the 73 reviews for this game on Metacritic, only 2 of them were 80 or below. 8? Are you kidding me? This is easily a 10.
Re: Box Art: Metroid Prime Trilogy
Any thoughts on how much this will cost? I'd guess $60.

Someone please tell me that the blue bar over your player can be turned off. It looks really annoying and disruptive. Do you get used to it?

The tone of that quote is not as brash as you, Nintendo Life, make it out to be. I bought Wii at launch and PS3 a year ago and I like both.

Wow, this is really sweet news. Time to sell Corruption on eBay.

Wow, just finished playing this, it's as good as I remember. OoT may have more dungeons, but the dungeons in MM are simply BRILLIANT!

Re: USA VC Update: Mega Man 3

I can. One game per week is a joke when they have thousands (yes thousands) of games available to put on the VC.

Still no Super Mario Kart. Nintendo only has two weeks left if they want to do any sort of tie-in with the release of the Wii version.
