Re: Review: Dillon's Dead-Heat Breakers (3DS)

I'm happy to hear that the controls are button based this time. I bought the first game but I could not play it because I'm left-handed and I'm unable to hold the stylus with my right hand, at least not comfortably or as precisely as I'd want to for a video game. I might give this one a try.

The same thing happened for Liberation Maiden. I really liked it but after one level I decided it was too hard to control.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles Looks Set For The North American Wii U Virtual Console

@Jayvir I think the save from the disc version will be used with the downloaded VC version.

I bought Metroid Prime Trilogy when it came out last year and I had the physical version too. If I recall correctly I was able to use my save. I may be wrong, though...

The best thing about this digital version is to finally being able to play off-TV without the need of a Wiimote and Classic Controller. Come on, how hard can it be to support the GamePad as a Classic Controller when in Wii mode? At least this digital version allows it.

Re: Week Three of the eShop Throwback Sale Goes Live in North America

@Haz The problem is that my 9.99$ I earned in local currency from my job in Canada has less value than the 9.99$ in local currency one earns from his job in the United States, yet my salary didn't increase because the exchange rate went up (from a Canadian perspective). Since we are buying the same product, it should make sense that we pay the same price, in local currency, hence the complaints.

I understand that people on the other end (the seller) want to receive more money from the customers so they adjust prices for currencies evaluated below their main currency (usually USD). Still, it's a losing situation for Canadian customers.

This situation prevented me from buying a lot of things online in the recent months. In particular, a PS4, just after the price went up 50$ in early 2014. That and the fact that the PS4 didn't have any interesting games (for me at least) at that time.

That being said, I'll still get the Canadian-price-inflated Metroid Prime Trilogy today!

Re: Feature: Five Reasons To Choose Wii U This Holiday Season

DeQuimet

1. Xenoblade X in 2015 (can't come soon enough)
2. Xenoblade on the GamePad in Wii mode (too bad we can't use the GamePad buttons in place of a Wii Classic Controller)
3. Mario Kart 8 and other local multiplayer games, always fun with friends/family.
4. Hyrule Warriors is way more fun than I expected
5. Did I mention Xenoblade?

Sure, some eShop games are really interesting and add value to the package, but they are unlikely to be the main reason one buys the console. I'm currently not un-enjoying Unepic and SteamWorld Dig, and I've yet to buy Shovel Knight (shame on me! I can't decide whether to buy it on 3DS or WiiU). Toki Tori 2 and Mutant Mudds are great games too. Trine 2 is nice, especially if you can find 2 other players.

Like others said, some areas are lacking, but I prefer to enjoy the things we have now rather than complain on what is missing.

The Team Teamwork link has two errors in it...

Otherwise, great podcast Jon!
I've been following you since you went weekly at year's start and I listened to all the previous podcasts as well. I've discovered quite a bit of good music since then. Thanks a lot. Keep up the good work.

Re: Talking Point: Your 25 Years of Metroid Memories

My first Metroid game was the NES one. My brother borrowed it from a friend and we tried navigating the world without getting lost... What an ordeal!

I haven't really touched Metroid again until the release of Super Metroid. It brought distant memories of the first game while creating strong new ones at the same time. I really got immersed in this world and I still keep replaying Super Metroid once in a while.

After another long hiatus in Metroid playing (save for Mother Brain beating in Super Metroid), I rediscovered the series years after the first two Primes got released, but before the third. I mostly played PC games in the ten years after Super Metroid (I never had a N64, nor a Gamecube, I played Nintendo games at my friends' houses). One dear friend of mine heard of my Super Metroid crave and offered me Metroid Prime for my birthday (or was it Christmas...). I really liked it but the change from 2D to 3D bothered me at first, as I was a SNES-era purist. I slowly got accustomed to it though and I think the change was brilliant.

I almost played all Metroid games to date, except for Return of Samus (3DS VC release for the win) and both DS games. I bought Trilogy even if I had the first two in Gamecube version and Other M just after release and I liked them all.

Metroid is by far my favorite game series. I really hope a new 2D game will release soon, in the same vein of Fusion but with more sequence breaking. This it what keeps me replaying Super Metroid. While I liked the story of Fusion or Other M, the linearity bothered me. I find that it removed a lot of replayability.

Re: Review: Bobby Carrot Forever (WiiWare)

DeQuimet

I downloaded it on day one (or two). Is it quite a good game and the puzzle are sometimes very hard and require multiple restarts to complete. The only complain I have would be the price of the additional worlds. 500 points for one world, when you have 6 bundled with the game (at 800) seems overpriced.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Makes Bold Move with the 3DS

DeQuimet

I saw a price drop for 3DS at Wal-Mart this weekend... for 199$! Too bad I already have a 3DS because I could've paid a lot less for the unit and still register before August 12th to benefit form the Ambassador program.

Check your local shops, some might preempt the official price drop by Nintendo.

Re: Dive: The Medes Islands Secret

I contacted Cosmonaut Games about the bugs preventing to get some small treasures, and they responded by offering me a free game. They also said that, using their own words, "we are not sure if we will be able to release a new update in order to correct this bug". I honestly wonder what could prevent them in doing so, as Nicalis released a patch for Cave Story on WiiWare...

That said, it is unfortunate the only choices I have for my free game are Inkub and 5 Spots Party. Nevertheless, free is free and I won't complain! I will take 5 Spots Party hoping to enjoy it with my 3 years old son.
