In the Nintendo history books that have already been written, and in more that will follow, Tetris inevitably get a prominent mention - its bundling with the Game Boy was an integral part of the success for both game and hardware. Its origins are from long before then, of course, and the game has had an interesting history in IP ownership and licensing.
It's still going strong, of course, with Ubisoft developing the most recent entries - Tetris Ultimate. The history of how this evolved from conceptual research in Russia to global video game smash hit is certainly intriguing.
Over the past weekend Did You Know Gaming? has given it the treatment, looking at its history, and you can check it out below.

Wonder if Nintendo will try and get Tetris DS on the Wii U VC for a limited time like Tetris GB on the 3DS VC?
Sure it sold nowhere near the GB version or make as big of an impact, but Tetris DS was still a really good Tetris game that even today still stands out from recent Tetris games,...
Absolutely love Tetris. I've had a ton of games throughout the series:
Tetris (GB)
Tetris (NES)
Tetris 2 (SNES)
Tetris Attack (SNES)
Disney's Magical Tetris (N64)
Tetris Plus (Sega Saturn)
Tetris Worlds (GameCube)
Tetris DS (Nintendo DS)
Tetris (PS3)
Tetris: Evolution (Xbox 360)
Tetris Party Deluxe (Wii)
Tetris (GB, 3DS VC)
Tetris: Axis (3DS)
Yeah, I'm a fan. I say I won't buy anymore versions, but then I do.
Loved tetris ds. Didn't like the game as a kid but the ds entry got me.
@ericwithcheese2 One of my favourites is The New Tetris on Nintendo 64. The 4x4 blocks features is really interesting and add a new layer to the game.
