@Mycroft Keep in mind I'm not a huge fan of roguelikes in general. They need to do something unique to keep me interested. In the case of RAD, Double Fine has built a creepy, wild, funny, and dark world to play in (which is on par for them). The sheer veriety of mutations and how they interact with each other in different ways depending on your run is interesting, and keeps me going back for more. That being said there is still the "roguelike" thing of having a bad roll, and basically getting a bunch of useless mutations. That sucks. But you'll get that with any roguelike.
As far as graphics and performance goes, at launch there was some major slow down and blur as the dynamic resolution wasn't optimized for Switch. They patched that with a recent update and it plays MUCH smoother now. Load times are still a bit too long. If you're finding yourself just waiting for Zelda to come out on the 20th, you could do worse than RAD. the backstory of the world, the art style, and the impossibly deep combination of mutations are why I recommend it. expect a steep learning curve for the first hour or so.
@Fake-E-Lee My first few hours felt like this too. After I got a couple really awesome mutations it made me much more curious about what was around the corner and much more willing to deal with the slog of starting a fresh run. But I can see that putting off some. I sincerely hope you keep at it a bit longer and experience what I did later on.
I'm glad I bought and played this game before reading this review. RAD is worth far more than the sum of it's parts. The sheer veriety of mutations lead to a multitude of playstyles. Sometimes im a flying death machine that rains fire from above. Sometimes I'm a close quarters ninja with spikes! And vanom! Sometimes I just sit back and let my minions (babies?) Do the work for me. Sometimes it's a combination of all 3!
Some might feel the RNG is a bit agrrssive and unfair, but after a few hours of trial and error, any deaths due to overwhelming hoards or bad mutations simply felt like learning experiences. And everything else was up to me. Knowledge truly is power here.
At the end of the day, I always wanted to go back for one more run. And I can't put my finger on exactly why. Some combination of style, veriety, and that "I wonder what will happen next" question that keeps poking at me.
8.5 if not for some very fixable graphics hickups.
DO NOT BUY SNAKEPASS. It's a misleadingly infuriating game that isn't worth its sale price. It's frustrating and boring and all the artistic charm in the world can't save this disaster of a game. Lack of puzzle verity, lack of features and content. cute protagonist? Maybe. But for the love of God, stay away from this train wreck.
Played it on Switch quite a bit over the last week or so. Never played it on mobile. Just a few thoughts:
The touch screen controls are iffy. but workable. however, using a controller feels pretty good for a mobile game.
even thought having a mobile port that requires time in between play sessions to make any real progress, the boot-up time is pretty quick, compared to my other drop-in game right now, Battle Chasers Nightwar. I find myself dropping in to Fallout Shelter 2-3 times per day.
the only REAL downside I can find gameplay wise, is when you send people into the wasteland, save, quit, and don't boot it up until the next day, my explorer is almost always dead. I wish there was a better way to deal with this other than wasting precious bottle caps.
tl;dr: Star Ghost is totally worth your time and money.
This game will make you re-shink the shmup genre. it's a much more strategic and methodical take on what is typically a twitchy style of gamplay. Not to mention totally addicting once you get the hang of the strange controls.
Support Rhys! Get this game. You'll thank me later!
After 2 hours in with the Wii version, I love it. Definitely gives me the same kind of rush as the action sequences of Sonic Adventure. The camera could use some tweaking, but that was more of a minor annoyance than a game-breaking issue.
I really wish more people were able to play the Wii version. It's a fast, action game, and the gamepad controls are just, meh. It would have been better to play the game using the touchscreen and tap on targets then have to move a radical with an analog stick.
My recommendation? Pick up the retail copy and give the Wii version a spin. I have a feeling this is going to end up a very expensive game given some time.

@Mystique Preach.
I grew up with the NES and I find most of those game unplayable these days. Save for Dragon Warrior, Mario, and a couple beat-em-ups.
