Sorry no. The effect is clearly a filter. Its not native separation. How do I know this? The game confuses where thr foreground is and it causes it to be blurry and unfocused.
If you think this game and Shovel Knight have the same quality of 3D then youre blind.
Too bad the physical is way late. I already paid 30$ or whatever for this digitally. I was a huge fan of the original. I remember as a kid going to Toys R Us on my birthday and my dad pick this up for me.
Game holds a special place in my gaming life. But, honestly, it's going to be 50$ CAD for this in Canada as all Nicalis releases are overpriced.
@Multi The Devs have heard your outcry against pixel art graphics and are now going to be hard at work revamping the entire game to a AAA graphics powerhouse to fit your personal taste!
The fact you dont understand the technical limitations of the NES and state this could be on it is kind of hilarious. Did you even read the review?
"very simplistic pixel art graphics. The titular barbarian has no facial features or discerning attributes to speak of, making him rather like an old Atari hero, but that impression doesn't last long. Once set in motion the game reveals a level of animation and attention to detail that just would not have been possible on those old machines. Simple details like snakes slithering along the ground or how their tails rise and fall as they die, or gorgeous multi-layered backgrounds smack of conveniences that current-day hardware provides to developers. "
Not to mention the audio, mainly the music, wouldnt even be possible on those old systems. Its emulating chiptune but with modern sound processing
Nothing about the art style is ugly or out of place. Makes me wonder if youre looking at screenshots on a very low rez screen or you have poor eyesight.
You keep going on about content. The content that is there is exellent. Its probably 6-8hrs depending on your skill level.
The game is a gem, but only for people who appreciate old school games.
Ignorance at it's finest. You wish original NES games were able to look like Tiny Barbarian. You don't understand any of the modern conveniences going on in this game that were not possible on the NES.
If you think this game's pixel are is bad, then you sir have no taste, or you simply are talking out of your @ss.
Are you talking about the elevator level in Episode 1? Took me about 3-4 attempts to get to the top. The jump across the pit to break the stones at the top though took me a dozen tries or more. Mid air spin attack does 3 dmg and insta breaks the blocks FYI.
This game is a gem. It's really good. Everything about it is great. The pixel art is fanastic, the animations are great, the controls are tight, the chiptune music is some of the best I've heard in a while.
Yeah, the price is a bit high. Welcome to Nicalis physical releases. But, if you loved old classics like Ghoul's & Ghosts, Castlevania (originals) Battletoads (3d tower level) Rastan etc, then this is a must buy for you.
Tiny Barbarian is a fantastic game. The review however docked points for the price even if the entire review was 100% positive. Easy a 9/10 for me.
Do it. It's a fantastic game. It clearly takes inspiration from classics like Ghouls & Ghosts, Battletoads (3d tower level) Mega Man, Castlevania. The chiptune music is fantastic too.
Except if you're in Quebec. The idiot language police have declared this product illegal to sell or ship to Quebec. Why? Because 2 of the games on the Snes had French releases so they must be included on the Snes. Nintendo only included the English versions.
Screw you Nintendo for this blunder and to Quebec for being morons.
The 3D effect is pretty poor. It's a filter and not properly tuned for the 2D graphics. Compare this to Shovel Knight which uses 3D extremely well, Castilla looks like garbage in 3D.
The reason for this is that the filter confuses what should be in foreground and background. You'll often seen the ground under your feet shift to the background and back into the foreground etc. It's all a bit fuzzy. Again, Shovel Knight had very clear separation of planes in it's 3D effect which looked amazing. Castilla butchered the 3D effect and it's clear to me the Devs didn't spend any time doing it correctly.

$79.99 CAD. For Skyrim, which came out in 2011. It's almost 7 years old. LOL.

Its a fact, not an opinion.
I never said I didnt like the game. I said their implimentation of 3D is poor.

Its not similar. Its night and day difference.

Why not just get a tv made in, what... the last 6 years or so that has these apps built in...
My 55'' tv is old by todays standards and has netflix on it..

Ever heard of Plex? Wireless streaming to your tv from your HDD....
Streaming on a game console has zero relevance to me.

I'd hardly call Odyssey "one of the best games of all time". great Switch game, best game of all time, not really.
Re: Video: See How Well DOOM Holds Up on Switch Compared to Xbox One
@tanookisuit
Dont worry I wont. I own this game on PC where i can run it at 120fps.
Those of you saying 30fps doesnt matter havent played games at high refresh rates.
Re: Video: See How Well DOOM Holds Up on Switch Compared to Xbox One
@tanookisuit
Anyone should be easily able to identify the difference between 30fps and 60.
Don't think I could play this at 30fps to be honest.

Except 256gb cards are stupid expensive. You are much better off with a 128gb.
If you fill that, well get another or, you know, delete games you dont play anymore.

What a dumb article. Particularly slow news week or what?
Next, "Charge Your Switch Anywhere Theres A Wall Plug!"
Re: Review: Yono And The Celestial Elephants (Switch eShop)
So this is a rather bland and boring game. Gets a 7. Tiny Barbarian is an excellent game full of polish, charm and amazing music and it gets a 7.
The reviews and scores here seem all over the place.
Re: Review: Tiny Barbarian DX (Switch)

To be honest, this game isn't very similar to Rastan. It's a lot more like Ghouls & Ghosts or the first Castlevania in terms of gameplay.
