@HotGoomba Cool, thanks. So the Oculus Quest 2 (I'm in the US) has non-gaming stuff like workout programs and things like that? I'll have to check it out. Thank you for your feedback.
OK, so I ordered a Black Friday deal for an Oculus Quest 2. I'm not exactly sure what all it comes with, but are there any accessories or anything that I probably need to make sure to get? I know with the Switch I wanted to get an SD card and a screen protector. Anything like that that is important to get, like an extra charger or strap or anything? Thanks.
@Xyphon22
The bundle includes Beat Saber and Resident Evil 4 VR, two great games for VR.
I'd also recommend a head strap, the best ones being from either KIWI Design or BOBOVR. Some controller grips, like these ones, a better facial interface than the one included in the box, like this one from VR Cover or this one from KIWI Design.
I'd also recommend getting some lens protectors, especially if you and/or any of ylur family members wear glasses.
Prescription lenses are also available, but they're quite expensive.
@HotGoomba Thanks for the suggestions. So are those basically to make it more comfortable to wear and use? And does it not come with a head strap, or do you just recommend a different one, because how do you use it without one? That would be difficult. Anyways, I'll look into those. I just wish there would have been different bundles. I can't imagine anyone in our family ever playing RE4, no matter how good of a game it's supposed to be. Oh, well.
@Kermit1Pineapple There's a few different ones to get as the default strap isn't ideal long term.
I have a Kiwi Design one and it works well.
There is the official Elite strap but they break due a Design flaw. I went through three (covered by warranty each time) before just getting the KD strap.
I did not know so many people get motion sick in VR.
And it is so cool that there are MANY ways to combat this in the game options like:
1. At first use the teleport movement instead of the normal motion movement. I see that almost ALL games and apps have this!
2. Games with vehicles can cause severe motion sickness and devs implement not only teleportation for vehicles but things like 3rd person camera, flat screen gameplay when in vehicle!
The accessibility options are more than normal gameplay options and I am grateful for it!
Max Musterd is finally coming to PSVR2 this Oct 3. It's basically an enhanced port of the Quest 3 version, with Higher resolution that's down sampled(or something) into 2K per eye, improved visuals(Lighting, textures etc), deep black levels, richer vibrant colours(Thanks to the OLED display) and it runs at 90fps with zero frame rate dips.
I have it on Q3, and it looks stunning in person. I can't help but imagine how magical a 3rd person Mario platformer would be on a future VR headset/glasses from the big N, down the line once they finally dip their toes in. It's inevitable. I'd love to cruise through Mario Odyssey's beachy' Sea Side Kingdom in 3rd person VR.
I'm also really looking forward to >
Metro Awakening
Alien: Rogue Incursion
Subside - (For those looking for something similar to PSVR1's Ocean Descent 'Shark Cage Encounter')
Mare
Wrath: Aeon of Ruin - (Love letter to Quake-heads.)
Metal Hellsinger VR
Rich's Plank Experience - (Updated version with enhanced visuals etc.)
Zombie Army VR
Resident Evil 9 VR - (Rumoured! Capcom has high interested in VR-ifying their next RE game.)
As far as PSVR2 is concerned, i still think the single greatest title goes to Resident Evil Village VR. Followed up with RE4 VR, Madison, Moss & Compound. Still hanging on to mine simply because i don't have a beefy PC rig to connect my Quest 3 to.
@Zuljaras
VR was never a dumb gimmick, even back in 2016 with PSVR1. For those that played through Astro Bot: Rescue Mission, Resident Evil 7, PSVR World's 'Shark Cage' & Moss, and even titles like Vacation Simulator know exactly what I'm talking about. Incredible experiences that so many unfortunately missed out on.
As for Quest 3, which i also own, be sure to get Resident Evil 4 VR(It's like you're stuck inside the gamecube original, and is awesome. ), Max Mustard and my personal favourite 'Ocean Rift'....Which also has a great mixed reality feature, where you can draw windows on your walls, in your living space, and have ocean marine life, including a great white shark swimming outside your living room!
It's pretty incredible. Quest 3's pancake lenses are fanfrikkintastic. The wide sweet spot, pancake clarity, blur free motion clarity and 2064x2208 per eye give it an edge over PSVR2, with the exception of black levels and colours.
Be sure to check out the VR animation app as well, where artists subbit their VR animations & diorahma's. There's some pretty jaw dropping submissions on there. Nightmara Episode 3 being one of the holy grails!
VR won't sky rocket in popularity until probably 2030, when headsets like Quest 5 transition into thicker glasses. Resolution will be higher, FOV, deeper blacks & Colours, with 2x the power of a Quest 4, along with wireless power console connectivity etc etc. Right now, there's a few friction points like the weight of the headset, headsets still being 'headsets', not enough stand alone power, and the library consisting mostly of indie games.
You should check out the PSVR2, while it's $200+ off....Resident Evil: Village VR(Exclusive) was one of the greatest video game experiences I've had in the last 20 years. RE4 Remake VR's first half(Village Section) was also one hell of a ride.
Here are some Q3 recommendations >
Resident Evil 4
Ocean Rift
Max Mustard
Compound - (First person PS1 styled Wolfenstine 3D-esque Rogue Lite Shooter)
Asgard's Wrath 2
Rich's Plank Experience
Eye of the Temple
Puzzling Places - (Summer Dive DLC specifically)
I highly recommend the official meta elite strap(Or Elite strap + Battery), and silicone user interface. The Meta Charging dock is great too!
@Zuljaras
No prob! Ya, I've heard good things about the RE7 and RE Village PC VR Mods. On one hand, if you have a top tier graphics card(Think RTX4090) you might be able to lock both at 2064x2208 per eye with Quest 3, get them running 90fps(Which eliminates that nasty motion duplication effect in VR from 60fps, aside from making the motion more life-like), then you gain the Q3's wide sweet spot, blur free motion clarity, wonderful pancake lens clarity(Q3 VR games when fully optimized, clarity wise, look like they're one step away from peeking through a window. Ocean Rift being a great example!)...
Wireless connectivity(Although i hear it introduces a bit of image compression and tiny amount of latency), ring-less controllers, Q3's far greater comfort over PSVR2, and whatever else. Although, for RE Village PC, there's very little motion based environmental interactivity, which is a good thing imo. You press buttons to open up cupboards and the like. I'm just curious to see if the VR cutscenes hold up as well as they do from the official PSVR2 VR release.
At this point, I'd rather just roll with Q3 + a PC that has a bit more power than a PS5 Pro, and sell off my PSVR2 and call it a day. Quest 4 won't be releasing probably until Oct 2026, and meta officially cancelled Quest 2 'Pro'. And I highly doubt Sony will create a PSVR2 Revision, which it desperately needs IMO. Nintendo will probably jump on the VR bandwagon in the earlier 2030's, with Sony getting back into the mix.
Mario Kart VR will be a home run. lol Then you've got Pokemon Snap(Imagine being in that beach section in 'New' Pokemon Snap), Metroid Prime VR, a 3rd person/or Top down Zelda VR game, 3rd person Mario VR game, Heck...VR-ify the upcoming House of the Dead 2 remake, Bioshock, Sin & Punishement: Star Successor. The potential is just unreal, and it will all happen at some point.
@NeonMullet my laptop is with 4060 so I have to do some compromises
Still on Half-Life 2 and I just escaped Ravenholm! Also, I am now moving without teleportation movement so bit progress on the motion sickness in just 2 days
Oh, and I am loving Google Earth VR more and more
And if there is a sale on Resident Evil 4 on the Meta store, I am 100% picking that up!
@Zuljaras
Have you tried out Half Life Alex by any chance? Get on that Ocean Rift, Resident Evil 4(OG RE4, not the remake version) and the RE7, & RE: Village VR PC mods stat!
Also Max Mustard is getting a release this Oct 3 for Steam VR. It's no Astro Bot: Rescue Mission(PSVR1) which was mind blowing for it's time, and still kind of is actually, minus the low pixelated PSVR1 resolution, but MM is an absolute blast, and a super polished indie effort, and does an excellent job at filling the Astro Bot VR void. Another solid effort at showcases just how much better 3D platformers are in VR than they are on flat TV screen.
And yikes....I can't do Ocean Rift's Great White Shark Cage. The only thing that truly terrifies mee in VR are giant sharks, be it great white's or Mako's. Those oversized demonic gums and long sharp teeth are the stuff of nightmares.
