@BenAV I'm having a difficult time deciding on whether to buy a Switch 2 The first party games look like a lot of fun with MKW and the new Donkey Kong looks like a blast but I worry that we'd be left with a lot of filler titles as you call them and 3rd party ports that I just don't want. I'd be concerned that the console was just sitting around while we wait for Nintendo's other major 1st party games to be released.

@Dhaladog I built a gaming PC last year which I'll continue using for all my multi-platform games so I am buying a Switch 2 expecting to only really use it for these big first party games but I'm also okay with that. Nintendo make enough of my absolute favourite games that I'm still going to get my money's worth even though I'm not using it as much as I have previous consoles.

@BenAV I also have a gaming PC (although it's a little long in the tooth now) and use it for all my multi-platform stuff, I also use use it for Switch emulation and before anyone denigrates me yes I do own a Switch and all the games I emulate, they just look better and in some cases play better on PC. I think I'll be waiting until we have some more first party games on Switch 2 before I buy one though, although I'm not holding my breath for a new Zelda anytime soon not with spruced up copies of BOTW/TOTK and Wind Waker doing the rounds for now. Have to say though that a new Zelda would have sold the console for me regardless of it's software prices and talking amongst friends I'm not the only one.

@Dhaladog That's fair. I've been kinda dying for a new Mario Kart for ages so that was all I needed to preorder one. I played the crap out of Mario Kart 8 on Wii U but was already basically over it by the time we got 8 Deluxe so the last eight years I've just been waiting for the next new one.

I don’t think this is the base price, as Donkey Kong has proved. Mario Kart World is simply another TOTK situation, where Nintendo felt this was worthy enough of having an $80 price tag. As of right now, it doesn’t seem like that’s the case, but maybe they have more to show.

@StewdaMegaManNerd MKW is a outliers and I don't think alot will go for others games hitting that price unless it is a LE, SE, and or CE edition.

DLC depends on the Publisher and what they deemed as free DLC or paid DLC at that point in time. Take CyberPunk 2077 I think it 70 so they feel they can still survive at the price point. I do think anything Mario will command 80 but I hope not this will kill any Mario type game right off the bat.

Its not good. I hope consumers speak up and Nintendo comes back to being sane.

I think the perception is Nintendo is a tiny indie studio in Kyoto producing cheap side scrollers with small teams. In reality there are building more offices, have offices in Tokyo and employee thousands of people to produce games, marketing, website, etc all on a global scale.

Don't think it doesn't cost money to take massive teams to product Tears of Kingdom and Mario Kart World. And for those massive titles they charge the maximum. For smaller cheaper titles they charge less.

Most publishers absorb the loss of the base release knowing they will milk the customers later with DLC. In general Nintendo doesn't produce DLC and the little they do make is low priced and you know what you're getting. So you might be paying $60 for Assassin's Creed Shadows to get the full experience you need to pay well over $100.

Nintendo has been supporting a season pass for Splatoon 1, 2 and 3 with NO extra cost. Nintendo could EASILY make more items to sell you in Animal Crossing making their own DLC shop, they didn't. And the DLC they did release was free to expansion pass subscribers!

So paying a bit more for games when EVERYTHING is literally more expensive and Nintendo is not being predatory with DLC and deluxe editions carving out content to sell you over the odds.

Breath of the Wild was sent out to be the launch game for Switch 1, aka the reason people would buy one. It only needed to sell 2 million copies to make a profit. It sold more than 30 million copies.

I promise you right now, Mario Kart World at 60 dollars would be profitable if it sold only as much as the Wii U version of Mario Kart 8.

@kkslider5552000 They sell it at a price they think people will pay. It's a profit deal.
Fun fact - in the UK I am paying £35 for my copy of Mario Kart World.

@SwitchplayerJohn I beat ya. I paid £34

Banjo-

@1UP_MARIO @SwitchplayerJohn Do you mean using shop vouchers and stuff like that or where did you find that deal, and why didn't you get the bundle? Was it because it sold out in 5 minutes or because you prefer a physical copy? Sorry, I need to know. 😁

@Banjo- I got the Mariokart bundle which cost 34 pounds more. It’s a digital copy but I’m sure I’ll pick a physical copy when I find it for around 30 pounds.
It’s still available in the uk. Amazon still selling it on and off.
HotStock is a good app to notify you when stock is available.

Banjo-

@1UP_MARIO I understand. I'm glad you got the bundle, which is much better value!

@Banjo- So my currency is UK British pounds which is different to US Dollars. And the Switch 2 is selling for £395.99 just the console. The bundle is selling for £429.99.

Because the bundle is a better value I went for the bundle. I was actually wrong the price is a difference of £34 not £35.

I was able to get a pre-order in (no payment upfront) from the UK My Nintendo Store. I have used them for years and had already ticked all the requirements to get a pre-order invite.

Something NEW in the UK for Switch 2 is digital prices are now cheaper than physical prices by £7. I had already been collecting digital for Switch anyway and find it was better than swapping carts all the time.

@SwitchplayerJohn Yep, I don't have a problem with digital either. Basically, all my Xbox games are digital and I trust Microsoft regarding digital purchases. I own more physical than digital games for Switch because they were a better deal, but things have changed with the pricing of Switch 2 software.

I asked because I thought that you two found that deal for a physical copy, not the bundle.

If there is a cheaper option I will go with the cheaper option, regardless of other factors.

But my real opinion is that video game companies should stop making games that cost so much. Find something to cut that's driving up the price, like graphics or executive salaries.

SilvercatMoonpaw

Banjo-

@SilvercatMoonpaw The problem is that the extra money that Nintendo is charging is not justified, because the development costs are low compared to the other big publishers and because they sell many more copies, as a brand that goes beyond traditional gaming. They are charging extra because they can do it, or they think they can. Time will tell.

@Banjo-
Hopefully it will tell them to knock it off. Unfortunately, that may be on us, the consumers, to tell them via not buying their stuff.
