@Zuljaras I only started drawing less then a year ago and I need to know, is it a easy jump to digital art or is it a little bit diffrent.

@Zuljaras ah! Really cool. It was really interesting to see how you adjusted the proportions and worked on the shading/textures.

That's something I need to work on myself. Which is probably why I mostly draw simple creatures on simpler backgrounds. Humanoids are like, next level.

Signing/dating is probably a good practice too.

@Snatcher Digital is 10000000000% easier than traditional.

Reasons:
1. You can erase everything any time.
2. LAYERS!
3. Smooth shading + smudge tools.
4. Changing colors and lighting anytime in the process.
5. So many brushes, pencils than you can ever imagine.

Also it is very easy but you have to consider some factors like you MUST have a drawing tablet. There is no need to be expensive one with display but there are even cheap ones with displays like XP-Pen tablets. For the non-display one you need to build screen-eye-coordination which I found to be a pain and switched to display tablet.

The process itself is so smooth that you will never go back You just need to figure out the software. For me it is PC = Photoshop, iPad = Procreate.

@Eel Thank you! And I like this Eel better than the last!
Signing/dating is really nice when you go back and see how you did years ago

@Anti-Matter I want to ask you something serious that I noticed from a while now.

Most of the time when I post some artwork you post almost right after me some of yours. I really doubt that is a coincidence since it happened so many times.

Is there a reason for that like you are just reminded that you have some unposted art or something else?

I am really curious.

@Zuljaras Wow when ever I find the time to get a drawing tablet I'm going to draw, sadly for now its pen and paper for me.

@Snatcher a really nice way to start with digital art would be an entry level iPad with a third party pen, there's some brands that make good ones that aren't as expensive as the apple pen.

That combo gives you a relatively affordable all-in-one solution that you can also use as a general-use device for media consumption and some gaming.

The cheapest ipad has only 32GB though, which means you'd need to rely heavily on cloud services and wifi. It's a bit of a restrictive amount of storage.

(Of course this recommendation comes from the one iPad fanboy in this thread so be sure to check your options and plan accordingly!)

@Eel That is true. The 8th Generation of iPad is good for drawing. Also the 32GB would NOT be a problem if they put a type-C port on it but it is stuck with that lightning port or whatever.

Also I was apple hater for many years. Well I still thing their phones are the WORST on the market for the price they are asking. But the iPads are really, really damn good for artists.

Do you have more of them good Pokemon drawings? (insert scratching junkie meme here)

[Edited by Zuljaras]

Eel

@Zuljaras oh that's right, now that you bring that up, there do exist lightning-type usb hubs and adapters. I totally forgot you can just... Use external storage to keep stuff.

Edit: about pokemon drawings, so far just those two! Finished at least.

@Snatcher Just to inform you a little further on the matter as it will be your first time (when it comes).

There are things to consider before any purchase.

1. Standalone or pen display. - One is connected to a PC the other works on its own.

2. Parallax - many people refer to this as disadvantage. Parallax in drawing tablets is described as an air gap between the glass and the actual display of the screen. When you use a pen and you look from an angle you can see that the pen tip is offset to the actual screen.
People make big deal out of it but and say that it is inaccurate in terms of drawing. Trust me it is not and it is negligible. You just turn on the brush cursor and you can always see the brush on the display when drawing.

If you want the nicer screen without parallax you should look for "fully laminated displays". The latest Galaxy Tab S6 Lite, S6, S7 and S7 Plus have fully laminated displays and they are cheaper (the S6 Lite model is really cheap) + you get the pen in the box no additional purchase!

3. Finally the software. On PC you have everything except Procreate (as it is iPad exclusive app). On android you have some free programs and some paid but not expensive at all. And on iPad you have the same as android + procreate which is 10$ for ETERNITY! (and you can import Photoshop brushes!)

Personal advice! Go with drawing tablet with display NOT one that acts like a mouse pad with pressure sensitivity.

@Zuljaras Thanks for the advice i know its dangerous to go alone I will take this.

Some gaming haul.

Still waiting on Final Fantasy X/X2 from play-asia (it has been 2 months now!), and Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars from Amazon.

ThanosReXXX

@Tyranexx Yup, rentals. Big advantage is that it comes with a service pack, so you'll always be safe in the knowledge that there's no chance that you'll ever experience coffee with added bacteria cultures...

@ogo79 Ah, ogo. Answering WAY too late again, so I don't even have any idea anymore what you're even responding to. Don't ever change, man. Stay golden.

@Anti-Matter Nice coloring on that octopus picture again.

@Zuljaras Nice game haul. Sacred and Diablo are two great games for sure. Does Morrowind still hold up graphically, nowadays? I do know that it already wasn't the biggest graphical showcase when it first released, so that must mean that time hasn't been to kind too it, considering how old it is now. Then again, the game is still fun to play, so graphics being less refined according to modern standards might also just be a rather minor issue.

@ThanosReXXX Morrowind is one of those that are made into 4K enhanced for the Xbox One. It looks good. The graphics are dated but that never bothered me with ANY game as the graphics are my bottom priority for a game

I never had Original Xbox and I probably never will. Same with the PS1 and PS2. I do not want to own a console that spins the game discs constantly.

ThanosReXXX

@Zuljaras Good point on Morrowind. Then again: I basically already hinted at that myself. It's kind of like the Dragon Age games on the Xbox 360, which also aren't the best looking games of its generation, but still massively entertaining nonetheless.

As for constantly spinning drives: well, believe it or not, there's actually benefits to that: besides the disadvantage of noise, the huge benefit is that it will be far better on your disc and drive mechanism. The stop and start method of drives that spin down and back up again are actually less advantageous for your console, and contrary to popular belief, the energy expenditure and/or power spikes are also worse on the latter.

On a side note: never had an original Xbox either. Back then, I was still firmly lodged in camp Nintendo, and only with the release of the Xbox 360 did I decide to become a true multi-platform gamer. Well, at least: on console, seeing as I have also always been playing games on PC as well.

I currently own around fifty backwards compatible OG Xbox titles, a lot of which are also backwards compatible on Xbox One and Series X. I'm still hoping they'll add more, though. Xbox 360 titles as well, because one of my all time favorite games from that generation is still not included on BC.
