@Sunsy I always find that drinking tea in the afternoon or late at night is good for relaxing, and of course some extra fluid intake, to stay hydrated. I also sleep better when drinking tea before going to bed.

@Tyranexx Yeah, I can understand that recycling either isn't as big or as organized as over here, nor will it be the same in every country, but that doesn't mean that it's a bad or useless thing, in and of itself, like @NEStalgia would like to make us believe...

As for snacks/sausages, besides the ones mentioned earlier, I also always have a small supply of chorizo sausages. They are a great snack to combine with a drink on a Saturday night.

@Zuljaras Well, I never bought the PS1 Mini, because of all the bad reviews surrounding it, so I wouldn't know how easy it is to hack, or how much easier it would be compared to the SNES Mini, but personally, I had no problems whatsoever with adding games to my SNES Mini, and it was done in 10 minutes or so, maybe even less, and as long as you follow the instruction to the letter, I believe that anyone can do it.

Right now, I'm waiting for my Sega Genesis/Megadrive Mini to arrive. I pre-ordered it several weeks ago, and already paid in full, to make sure I could get my hands on one. I wonder how easy it will be to add games to that system, if at all...

@Knuckles-Fajita I'm sure you'll do just fine. A little bit of confidence never hurt anyone.

@NintendoByNature You're very welcome.

@bimmy-lee Ha! Kinda relieved to see that I wasn't the only one who forgot. Makes me feel a little less forgetful, and also doesn't make me have to blame my age for not remembering...

@ThanosReXXX Currently I added SNES and NES games but I still have trouble running Genesis games on it. I did everything but I guess I need some BIOS files as well.
As for the Sega Genesis I am on the fence since I can play all the Genesis games on the SNES Mini. Probably for collection factor later on.

@ThanosReXXX - You know, I think we get better when we age. Even if our stats dip in certain areas like short term memory and the ability to hold things without dropping them; we’re leveling all the other categories and making ourselves OP. I wouldn’t expect anyone to remember anyway. It’s not typically something I bring up, but it was kind of a milestone one, and I discovered it was close to NBN’s and we both got LA as a gift. I’m in on a chorizo sausage snack plate and a rum and Coke!

@Zuljaras Have you checked out his videos on adding RetroArch and the relevant cores? That'll probably work.

But not for me. As mentioned before, I want to keep all my systems pure, so no NES games on the SNES Mini, and no Sega games either. Besides: I already have a NES Mini, so there's no need to, and the same obviously goes for the Sega Mini. The thing for me is also the controllers and the look and feel. Sega games or games from any other console on a SNES replica just feels wrong to me. Guess I'm a bit more of a purist, where retro gaming is concerned. Even though I did also softmod my Wii, and put just about every system under the sun on there.

But strangely enough, I hardly ever use that for these games. Guess it was more the thrill of completing the mod and filling the box and getting everything to work as smoothly as possible, and now that's done, it's just sitting there. I only play Wii and GameCube games on it, like most Wii owners probably would.

@bimmy-lee Well, we gotta make that a reality some day, then!
Agreed on the rest. Personally, I feel like I'm a lot more laid back and much easier able to put things in perspective, and be more patient with things. Although online, I sometimes feel a lot like my younger self, and the opposites of those traits will arise every now and then, and depending on my mood, it's sometimes pretty hard to keep them in check.

So I see where Anti was banned again? Sad but understandable. The dude isn't a bad guy and has a lot of joy and creativity to bring here, but the extreme views when it comes to certain games does need worked on.

@NintendoByNature No prob! Totally get the "I need to sleep but also want to play games" feeling. I dealt with it last night; I finally had some game time but was so exhausted from my day that I had to call it quits after about half an hour. A telltale sign is when my head is starting to nod and reading becomes a chore. XD

@bimmy-lee That. Sounds. AWESOME! I'm not normally a jumper, but I likely would have at that lol. A lot of your reactions sound like what I typically do in a haunted house; I just smile and laugh and enjoy the show! (It does help if one or more people in your group are chickens, however. )

And the wife apparently doesn't mind using you as a classic meat shield.

@ThanosReXXX I definitely don't believe it's a bad or useless thing. There are some pros/cons to it like about everything else, but the pros outweigh the cons in my book.

I don't believe I've had chorizo sausage outside of Denny's, but the stuff I've had I've liked. I don't dislike sausage, it's just something I don't eat very often.

@JaxonH Hey man, sorry to drag you in here, but I'm kinda hoping to get your opinion/view/advice on the whole Wii U softmod thing. It's not for me, I've already got the Wii softmodded, but an acquaintance of mine asked me if I wanted to give it a try on his Wii U, so he dropped it off here. It's a pre-owned one, so I'll probably have to factory-reset it to get rid of the existing profile that's still on there first.

Now, I've looked into the most mentioned and used guide (Wii U Hacks Guide), so I've come to understand that there's two ways to do it, apparently, one where the end result is having to run some exploit every time you boot up the system, and the other a more permanent mod, which involves first buying a Nintendo DS Virtual Console title, and then using that as an exploit.

I'm going to guess you probably opted for the second option, but I'm not about to buy a game for someone else, because the only way to do that, would be with my profile on it, which would also be useless for him in the end, so I should probably first get my acquaintance to make a Nintendo account (he never owned any Nintendo system before), and then go from there.

Oh, and another thing: how did you go about having both Wii/GameCube and Wii U games on there? Or did you never bother with Wii U and/or Loadiine (and/or a large SD card to dump games to or install them from)? All I've read so far, is that it's impossible to make a two partition disk, where one part is readable for the Wii U, and the other in vWii mode.

I do already have the portable hard drive, so I'm good for vWii, and I downloaded this tool called Ustealth_R8, to make the drive invisible to the Wii U, so that it's only recognized in Wii mode and doesn't nag about a drive needing to be formatted every time when booting up to the main Wii U menu, but any other useful bit of advice that you could give me, would be more than welcome.

Thanks in advance for your time and trouble.

@Tyranexx I don't really indulge in it that often either. Usually only on Saturday's, when I make a small plate for myself, with some cheese, chorizo, cucumber slices and cherry tomatoes (to balance out the fats in the cheese and the sausage, and they all go pretty well together) to have as an accompanying snack to my Bacardi & Coke.

I had to cancel some afternoon plans due to a friend being ill, so the rest of my day has freed up. Nothing crazy, she's just slightly under the weather. We're already planning on going to see the new Joker movie on a later date. XD

I have GOT to try this delightfully-sounding food and drink combo at some point. That said, I'm quite satisfied food-wise for today. For my belated bday lunch, my family took me to my favorite pizza place about forty minutes away. While I mostly behaved (they run a brunch + full buffet on Sundays) and didn't indulge TOO much, their pizza is quite filling.

So... second option is best. That way you don’t depend on the Internet each time because you never know what’s going to happen with the Internet. Permanent is best. And the game is cheap. Like $5-10 iirc. Well worth the price of admission.

I never bothered with modding the actual Wii U portion. Just the Wii OS. It would’ve been neat but it also would have required a lot more work and research (actually performing the mods is never that hard, It’s the research needed to get it right and obtaining the correct files and all that jazz that’s a pain), not to mention that requires an Internet address hack, or hosting your own server, and personally I just don’t want to deal with any of that. Plus I already own all the Wii U games worth owning. The only thing that could really be gained from it is controlling the gamepad in the Wii OS, Which admittedly is a pretty cool feature but, frankly I just don’t use the system anymore. Or the 3DS (which I never did upgrade to Bootstrap from A9LH).

However, I think I have a solution for you. I never used a hard drive for all my GC/Wii Games. I used a 256gb SD which was just the right size to fit them all (plus SNES, GBA, Genesis, etc). It takes a little work to get it set up so that it reads off the SD, but it can be done. When you’re doing the mod you’ll reach a point where you have two choices- one allows both USB drives to be used in back, while the other, I believe, only allows 1 USB but, allows playing from SD as well. And that’s the option I went for. I still have a hard drive plugged in the back with all my Wii U games that I purchased.

So that’s the route I’d go. I think it requires installing certain cIOS a certain way as well, and it bears mentioning I got usbloadergx working where it recognized both GC and Wii from the SD, but I do recall it being a little bit of a hassle since it wasn’t the route most people chose and thus it wasn’t the route described in the main guide, at least at the time I did it. I recall using two guides in tandem, where are the second guide mentioned all this stuff about playing from SD instead of USB, etc etc.

@JaxonH First of all, thanks for the quick reply. Figured as much, concerning which mod to choose, but had to be sure, especially since it's not for myself, so I do need to have the best/simplest option. Other than that, the guide I mentioned was pretty straightforward, except for how to use drives and/or SD's, so good to have that info from someone who actually did the mod.

As for not modding the Wii U portion: from what I've understood from the guide, that can't be escaped, seeing as at the very least, you'd need to add the exploit and/or homebrew app/launcher to the Wii U menu to be able to hack the vWii part of the console. So, I figured that if that has to done anyway, might as well put at least one Wii U game on there. Or maybe two, because more probably won't fit, seeing as it is a white model.

The program I mentioned (Loadiine) seems to be pretty easy to use, and there are dozens of "Loadiine-ready" dumps to be found on the web, but I can understand it wouldn't be interesting for you, if you've pretty much collected everything you want already.

EDIT:
I'm also suspecting that you're thinking of Cemu, instead of Loadiine. The latter is just an app that allows you to dump discs to SD and then install them to internal memory, as if you've digitally downloaded them, so no server or whatever required.

As for the bigger SD card: I won't be the one paying for that, so I'll have to pass that on to my acquaintance, and see what he wants to do with it. GameCube and so on probably won't be for them, though, so I would probably only need an SD card for the initial softmod and backup of the system memory/NAND of both the Wii U and Wii, so anything from 8 to 16 to 32 GB will probably suffice.

@ThanosReXXX
I was referring to Loadline. As long as you don’t turn the system off you’re fine but the minute you power it off and back on you have to launch an Internet browser that routes through a certain address you set it up with. You also have to block Nintendo and all this other stuff if you want to play it safe. I’m sure it’s very straightforward to use but I only deal with permanent hacks that don’t require Internet, don’t require blocking Nintendo, don’t require hosting your own server on your PC to launch the hack with, etc. now maybe they’ve made progress with that since I was looking into it a few years ago, but the only permanent hack that was around at that time was a little risky and required quite a bit of extra steps. And if the game in question ever got deleted, I think it could brick your system or something like that. But ya, maybe they finally figured out a way around the browser hacks each time you power off.

In any case, you don’t have to do anything to the Wii U to mod the vWii. Well, there’s the DS game but it’s not providing access to anything in the Wii U OS, just the vWii mode. Once everything is done you’ll never have to touch it, just tuck it away somewhere and forget about it. As I said, my Wii U is not modded, yet my vWii OS is hacked 7 ways to Sunday. If the guide is telling you that you have to do Wii U first then I would find another guide that focuses only on vWii. Unless you actually want to hack the Wii U. Then by all means. But it’s not required. I just launch the vWii mode, then launch HBC or usbloadergx

@JaxonH Ah, yes. There's that: having to prevent the Wii U from auto-updating games by manually changing the DNS addresses, but far as I've understood, that's only a one-time thing, but I'll double-check to make sure before I ever get into that part of the mod.

As for the site: would you mind checking it, to see if we're talking about the same site you used, or at least one of the sites that you used? It's literally just called "Wii U Hacks Guide", and if you remove the space between the u, and add dots in between wiiu and hacks and guide, then you've got the address of the site.

Or if you Google it, that should be the first result that comes up. I came by that site, because it's the one recommended on GBAtemp, so apparently it's now seen as THE guide to follow for Wii U/vWii softmods.

Why did anti- Matter get band

Yes.

And the other is the Definitive vWii hacking guide, which I’d recommend reading through simultaneously. Best to get it from two different sources to help fully understand what you’re supposed to do and make sure you get all the information

@JaxonH Will do, thanks for the tip.

@RedderRugfish Yeah, I already figured it would be. Otherwise, the people from GBAtemp wouldn't be recommending it as the guide to follow, but it never hurts to double-check, right?

@StableInvadeel For a second there, I thought you were actually serious about why Anti got banned...

Sunsy

Saw my brother this evening, before he left he told me "I will beat you next time in Mario Kart." Nice to know he's been practicing.

@Zuljaras Cool, Star Fox was the first game I played on the Mini, just to play Star Fox 2. From my Childhood, Home Alone and Super Mario Kart. I got a SNES for Christmas, so my mom rented them to see which I would like. Sometime after that she surprised me with Super Mario Kart, though I did like both games.

@NintendoByNature You're welcome. Sounds like a great time too.

@bimmy-lee You're welcome, glad it was fun. Aww, thanks for that complement.

@ThanosReXXX Indeed, me too. Tea does help me sleep better too.
