Ridiculous gore-fest Mortal Kombat 11 has welcomed some extra characters into its ranks of late, including the iconic Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 from the Terminator franchise.
Putting aside the rampant silliness of this particular series, the trailer showing a digitised representation of the one and only Arnold Schwarzenegger did grab our interest. While he didn't turn up to record the lines (he apparently hand-picked someone to imitate his voice, which must have saved him so much time and effort), the character appears to be pretty authentic, which is all we really need.
Now we've had chance to sample what the T-800 is like in Mortal Kombat 11 on Switch, we can't help but feel a little cheesed off. Sure, we know that the Switch isn't as powerful as the PS4 and Xbox One, and the footage taken from the gameplay trailer is intended to show the very, very best version of the game – but there's no escaping the fact that the version of The Governor we're getting as Nintendo fans doesn't look quite right. In fact, as one of our staffers commented, he looks like an NPC from the Call of Juarez series (which, incidentally, is finally coming to Switch).
Here's what the character model looks like close-up, taken from the aforementioned gameplay trailer:
And here's what he looks like on Switch:
Of course, when not viewed in extreme close-up, things are a lot easier to stomach and we've already established that simply getting the full Mortal Kombat 11 experience onto a portable system like the Switch is quite an achievement.
But man, that face. We can't un-see it.

what a non article..
“Consider this a divorce of consoles.”
For me is better on switch... on the first screen there's to much blur and face seems to be made by plastic
One of them looks like The Terminator and one of them looks like shattered Austrian-American politician Arnold Schwarzenegger.

@Rika_Yoshitake What a non-comment
The most violent governor in US history.
Can't imagine he has a desk job for 8 years.
well that's with all games on lower resolution. on core it's actually the same. Maybe in future when they release Switch 2 with Switch 1 backward compatibility able to use higher settings for games as this
That change is awful.
Another problem is, it's not even voiced by him, and the person they got is crap
Neither version looks like Arnie to me. The other consoles’ version looks more like Bruce Willis to me.
Kenny Rogers yo
They tried really hard to make this game run on switch but i gotta say, the more i play I'm wishing i just got the PS4 version. It just wasn't meant to be. The switch is no slouch and can hold it's own pretty well but some games are just beyond it's capabilities.
I mean just look at the krypt on switch. Somebody wanna tell me why it looks like a freakin PS2 game when i know damn well the switch can do better? Either the developers got lazy or the game is too demanding on Nintendo's system.
Neither one look much like Arnie..
When you say hand-picked someone to imitate his voice, I imagine he pointed vaguely in the direction of a bunch of people and the guy who has only ever seen one Schwarzenegger movie, Jingle All The Way, stepped up for the challenge.
The Derpinator
before you take a dump on the voice actor, remember that arnold himself picked him. dont go dissing now
I thought the voice sounded good at some points and not so good at others. Like when he says "Get over here" that totally sounds like Legit Arnie! The intro fight dialog like when he says "you will be terminated" sounds like a bad parody of him.
I'm guessing they went with a voice actor because it was much cheaper than paying Arnold to record his own lines.
Either that or he was busy making Dark fate. You know cause he's got other things going on besides voicing videogames.
I can already see a meme here
@Rika_Yoshitake that’s what NintendoLife is all about these days.
Kinda looks like garbage in both screens? I definitely don’t see one as being significantly less crap than the other, but whatever kicks up the dust on the internet, I guess.
Looks more like "The Most Interesting Man In The World".
Who says you can't go back to the 80s.
I think they both don't even look like Arnold. when i first watched the trailer i thought good design but they could of made him look a bit more like Arnold.
The only thing that makes the switch version look a bit worse are shadows if you look at the regular one then you look and the switch one it needs shadows other than that it doesn't look bad.
@locky-mavo
We knew this, how is this still news?
"Switch MK11 looks worse. More at the release of Joker."
Are we reading this same article again for every DLC? You want portable MK? You get a trade off, that's how the market works.
@Shiryu
I play MK11 regularly on Xbox, and I'm actually impressed with how the Switch port looks in that embedded video, looks great to me, I think much better than at launch. I'd double dip if the game had cross-platform saves just to be able to continue playing portably.
@Zeldafan79 To make the Krypt run better on Switch, they'd probably have to modify the code and assets in a way that would make it a completely different branch, meaning a lot more work needed to continue supporting it. If the Switch is now getting delayed patches already (which I think is the biggest issue in the Switch port, not the graphics), it would probably be worse then.
Looks like crap in every version.
The problem with how he looks in the Switch version comes down to whatever is going on with the hair.
The Switch version has NEVER been able to get character hair to look normal; Kabal, Liu Kang, Jacqui Briggs, Kano... it doesn't matter which character it is, the hair just has this awful effect to it, like it is made of mesh leggings or something. On top of that, the hair in the Switch version works rather poorly with the lighting, and ends up looking more washed out than it should. Liu Kang, for example, appears to have almost grey hair.
It looks like a cross between Gandalf and Quake Guy. That's awful.
Yes neither look like Arnie and the voice acting is a tad weak.
But hey this type of game will be £10 soon and then we'd all say for the money it's good enough.
@Rika_Yoshitake welcome to literally every "Random:" article on Nintendo Life
Looks pretty rough for both pics to be honest
Why does the second one have a mole under his left (our right) eye, when the first one doesn't? Is it a whole different person? Did they add it in for the Switch version for some reason?
lol, why does he look 10 years older on Switch, does the additional wrinkles help performance? In that case, they should make Geralt 60 yo in Witcher 3.
Why the white hair!?
