There was some momentary excitement earlier this week when Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon said he couldn’t believe NetherRealm had “got” Arnold Schwarzenegger – aka. the time-travelling cyborg assassin from The Terminator movies.
Part of me still can’t believe we got Arnold.
Boon’s tweet sent a sizable portion of the Mortal Kombat 11 community into meltdown – with many fans jumping to the conclusion that the T-800 in the game would be voiced by Arnie himself.
Even though the former California governor will reprise his role as The Terminator in the upcoming movie – Terminator: Dark Fate – unfortunately, he won’t be voicing his character in the DLC Kombat Pack.
According to a “knowledgeable” source in contact with The Hollywood Reporter, a “sound-a-like” voice actor was used to voice Arnie in the popular fighting game. Warner Bros. Interactive also reportedly confirmed Schwarzenegger would not be voicing his character in the game.
Terminator T-800 will be made available in MK11 on 8th October, and his latest movie will launch not long after this.
Were you hoping to hear Arnie had helped out? Will you be checking out his character in the DLC Kombat Pack? Leave a comment down below.

I think that quote from ed boon is about his likeness, not his voice. Remember, using a well known person’s likeness costs money too.
"Hasta la vista, baby!" Yeah this quote will never sound the same if not voiced by the great Schwarzenegger himself. It's the same reason why Scorpion's popular shout "Get over here!" won't sound the same if not voiced by Ed Boon. They gave a sort of badass and charm to the quote which brings the character to life, having anyone else to mimic those will make them sound fake.
@darkswabber of course it's all about the money. He's too expensive I bet.. so they will use an other voice that comes as close as maybe...
For me the DLC is a little disappointing. The last MK had a much stronger dlc. Terminator is cool but needed more similar. For the current price it’s a no
Anyway, they're making me want to buy the game as soon as the complete edition comes out.
I have yet to finish Mortal Kombat 9 and start X! LOL
@Moroboshi876 You can play MK9 without being annoyed? The game is fine, but those cutscenes are such low quality...when you see the cutscene and then the gameplay... in the past cutscenes were the high quality of a game and not the game itself due the hardware limits. But this is just horrible. Couldn't they even use higher resolution and sharper images on those cutscenes during story mode? Mk deadly alliance and Deception are for me the still the better MK games
@Alucard83 Cutscenes doesn't make the game better though, it's all about the gameplay and features. Mortal Kombat 9 is still miles better than Deadly Alliance and Deception combined even if its Story Mode are just text cutscenes. Be glad they even attempt to make movie cutscene out of it, to me that's just the icing on an already good cake.
@Alucard83 It's just I didn't finish that game and I want to before I move onto the next entries.
Isn't he like 70 years old now? He probably doesn't sound the same that he did back in the day.
I bet he has lost a lot of his accent too, since at this point he's lived most of his life in America speaking English.
The thing that confuses me most - is that this is ‘old/current’ Arnold... but he’s playing as the Terminator.. Shouldn’t he look the way he did in T1/2? Or it’s possible I haven’t seen what happens in the latest Terminator movie in which case I would assume there’s a back story... Personally T2 is one of the best movies of all time and I’m happy to stop there.
@Heavyarms55 You clearly don’t watch his (very good) motivational speeches He sounds the same.
WHAT!? They got a digital 3D model of him that looks THAT good and then it’s not going to have his voice!?
Ed Boon!!! You need to fix that, get Arnie paid for a half day in the studio and get him recording some killer lines for his best video game appearance yet. THIS is not the time to cheap out.
They wouldn't even put the game on the cartridge.
What makes anyone think that they would cough up the money to have Arnie do the voice?
In the heat of battle you'd probably not notice if they get a decent actor. I would have thought that there are probably enough quotes from the previous films they could simply have used, unless that's more expensive than I imagine it to be
Call the police! I see cleavage! This is not allowed in 2019 LOL
There are a lot of voice over actors who can do the voice exactly the same.
I really hope the have the "ill be back" or when a fatality "hasta la vista baby"
Erm...to be fair, T-800s don't say much anyway. Imagine if it was Street Fighter vocal spam for special moves?
"I'll be back, I'll be back, I'll be back, hasta la vista, I'll be back."
remember when i was kid we were kinda making fun of Arnie that he can't speak English (well in first Conan he didn't say much). But his austrian robotic accent in Terminator is iconic
So then whats the point of having him if it's not authentic? That's really stupid.
@dimi Krom! I thought his Cimmerian accent in Conan was iconic.
I'll be honest, Arnie or not, the Terminator DLC is almost enticing enough for me to get Mortal Kombat 11. Just like the Negan DLC in Tekken 7 would almost have been enough for me to buy that game.. if it even was on Switch.
Traditional fighting games are just a hard sell for me though and I just can't really justify purchasing them anymore because I barely even play them. Maybe if Soul Calibur released on a Nintendo platform again I might buy that because I played the GameCube version quite a lot, much moreso than most other traditional fighting games anyway.
....anyway, on-topic; don't think it's really that big of a deal that Schwarzenegger isn't voicing the character himself. So long as this sound-alike actually sounds alike, I think that's gonna be good enough.
There are a million people out there who can do Arnold Schwarzenegger impressions, so it shouldn't be a problem.
I wanted to hear Arnie's voice. Rumors say Jared Leto will voice The Joker hahahaa
Looking forward to the Terminator’s inclusion in this moreso than Dark Fate....that movie looks horrible from every angle...
@Mycroft Yeah I hate the auto correct in my phone. Every time I try to text something it kept auto correcting it to a certain similar word as if it thinks it knows what I'm talking about which is super annoying and sometimes makes my comment sound out of place.
This is an obvious tie in promotion of the new Terminator movie. I always thought the non MK DLC guest fighters were lame anyway. I'd rather have Reptile or Quan Chi.
@JayMac83
Not having Reptile is a joke. Old T100 from the lame new movie being the default is also a joke that’s as bad as if they used the Pac-Man from that recent cartoon for Smash but luckily Smash has some integrity when it comes to using what’s iconic meanwhile MK is a flippant mess.
he won't be back....
He was paid by the word in T2. So I get it
Terroriser YouTuber makes the Arnold voice sound good. I finally, got a result I think that YouTuber should be the voice lines
Oh, sorry; I was busy listening to this:

@Heavyarms55 he is an actor, though...
