The Famitsu charts for 20th - 26th May came out earlier this week and show Super Smash Bros. Ultimate back in pole position.
It seems that last week's number one, PS4 game Ys: Memories of Celceta - Kai, has slipped from the list entirely. Along with the usual suspects, Resident Evil Origins Collection jumps in at number 8 just behind PS4 exclusive Days Gone which slides two places. Perhaps unsurprisingly considering the port's poor performance on Switch, the PS4 version of Assassin's Creed III Remastered appears at number 10 above the Switch version, which could only manage number 15 in its debut week.
The rest of the top ten pans out like this (first number is sales for this period, second number is total lifetime sales):
1) [NSW] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Nintendo) {2018.12.07) - 8,662 / 3,094,161
2) [NSW] Minecraft (Microsoft Game Studios) {2018.06.21} - 7,451 / 790,783
3) [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo) {2017.04.28} - 7,193 / 2,310,186
4) [NSW] Splatoon 2 (Nintendo) {2017.07.21} - 5,360 / 3,073,071
5) [NSW] New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (Nintendo) {2019.01.11} - 4,658 / 621,135
6) [NSW] Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! / Let's Go, Eevee! (Pokémon Co.) {2018.11.16} - 4,647 / 1,535,394
7) [PS4] Days Gone (Sony Interactive Entertainment) {2019.04.26} - 4,549 / 171,008
8) [NSW] Biohazard Origins Collection (Capcom) {2019.05.23} 4,081 / NEW
9) [NSW] The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo) {2017.03.03} - 4,076 / 1,320,354
10) [PS4] Assassin's Creed III Remastered (Ubisoft) {2019.05.23} - 3,767 / NEW
Here's how things are looking on the hardware front (this week/total lifetime):
Nintendo Switch: 25,936 / 8,184,119
PlayStation 4: 5562 / 6,929,207
PlayStation 4 Pro: 4080 / 1,167,752
Xbox One X: 53 / 15,390
Xbox One S: 39 / 90,293
New Nintendo 2DS LL (including Nintendo 2DS): 2081 / 1,623,670
New Nintendo 3DS LL: 514 / 5,878,532
PlayStation Vita: 314 / 5,862,272
A strong showing for Switch, then. Things are sure to heat up and get a little more interesting in June, too.
Surprised to see Resident Evil Origins Collection pop in there? Let us know below.

Surprised only 25k Switches sold.
Apparently this os the worst week for sales for 20 years...
Nintendo life having another pop at AC3 even though people who have actually played it are being positive about it.
Can't help think if Resident Evil was released whole heartedly at retail, it would have performed better.
Not sure that topping the charts with only 8,000-odd sales counts as dominance. Doesn't look like anyone really dominated this week. Talk about pre-E3 doldrums...
@Stocksy Yup. The Switch version of AC3 also beat the PS4 version of Sonic Racing. Hm, too bad I’m busy finding feathers and almanac pages to care 😆
Absolutely terrible sales. Using dominating is really wrong... the sales are embarrassing low.
@koekiemonster Not embarrassing if it's following an annual trend this time of year.
Why are the sales so weak this week?
The switch is already almost 200 thousands units ahead of the PS4 in Japan, just wow
Nintendo hardware and software on top?
Inb4 "Japanese sales don't matter".
Terrible hardware and software sales.
Yokai Watch 4 and Mario Maker 2 cant come soon enough.
It amazes me how well Minecraft does. Don’t get me wrong I love it myself but surely everyone has it?
I guess with the heatwave people didn’t want to go outdoors.
Huh?! What are these figures? PS4 6 million lifetime sales? Switch 8 million? What?!
They sold WAY more than that, care to explain what "hardware lifetime" this is?...
@ricardosteve Japan's
@ricardosteve The Switch took Japan from the PS4 awhile ago. Japan generally likes Nintendo's handhelds more than other consoles, so it's not a huge surprise.
@thesilverbrick In case you were wondering, yes I did see where Splatoon 2 was at #4 this week.
@Regpuppy @dazzleshell
Oh I didn't mean to make it PS4 vs Switch. I read "lifetime" and immediately assumed it was the total worldwide sales for the consoles, hence my surprise. Yeah, Switch surpassed PS4 a little while ago in Japan
@ricardosteve Neither was I, text just doesn't convey tone well. Lol
Where is sonic?
All those numbers are awful. The top 10 are all single digits
"Perhaps unsurprisingly considering the port's poor performance on Switch"
Both AC3 failed (PS4 is just "less awful") - so did FfX and SAO on Switch. And Zodiac Age sold a fraction PS4 did. All will join Ys:MOC in the bargain bin soon enough. Most can care less (just like in the UK)
3rd party Publishers will just spend less on the ports to keep trying to squeeze a profit out of the low sales.
@Stocksy normally nintendolife is considered soft giving almost everything an 8. So perhaps if they gave a bad review it is because guess what.. the game is bad.
Wait, so Japan gets an origins collection on Switch where as we get each game separately?
This is why I'm never buying a full price Capcom game ever again.
@ROBLOGNICK north america also have the origin collection, but 0 is physical & 1 is digital
@Tantani
Actually, it's 87,160 more more Switch sales than PS4/Pro. Still, your point stands, they are outselling PS4 pretty handily in Japan.
@SlayerG somehow I thought they are on 8 and not 8.1
@Lord Sonic is generally much more popular in the U.S and the U.K than Japan
Wow no game broke 10k this week. This is a terrible week for gaming in japan
Those abysmal XBox numbers. I know MS don't focus on the Japanese market anymore but when you consider how much money they've invested in previous years it's still an atrocious result.
@ekwcll @ROBLOGNICK : It's like that in both regions. RE0 physical and RE1 download. Likewise with the Revelations "collection". The only difference being is that Capcom issued a standalone version of Revelations 1 without the download code for Revelations 2 as well.
@GrailUK: Of course it would have. I would have paid full price for all three games if Capcom had bothered to give them honest physical releases. For now, I won't be buying any of them. I only might consider importing the Origins "collection" if it is under AU$40 and I'll just sell the code (I don't want to have to create a separate account for a single game). If I'm going to be stuck with digital-only versions of these games, I may as well just buy them on Steam (and at least on Steam, I can back them up to discs).
Wow. Quiet week.
Unsurprising with RE, with the way Capcom handled it. Poor handling = poor sales.
@sixrings
No, that's only the case for their "darling indies" and 1st party releases. For big 3rd party games, they under score consistently.
Every indie remove a point, every big 3rd party game add a point. Rules to live by.
Notice 2yrs going after its release March 2017 it is still on the charts.
BOTW
Poor PSVita actually did well in Japan during its lifetime and is still selling in spite of being discontinued.
