Nintendo has announced upcoming Splatfests for Splatoon 2 players in Europe and North America, with two very different conundrums in place for each region.
North American players will be fighting it out over their favourite sports, with inklings being made to choose between baseball and soccer.
In Europe, though, players will instead be picking between their favourite popcorn style. Do you like your popcorn salty, or - as Marina puts it - do you prefer a "sweet cinema classic"?
The North American Splatfest will kick off at 9pm PT on Friday 6th April, with the European event to follow shortly after at 3pm BST on Saturday 7th April, lasting for exactly one day.
Which event will you be taking part in? And, more importantly, which side will you be fighting for? Make sure to let us know in the comments below.

The baseball vs soccer Splatfest should've been in Japan where both are really popular. I feel that close to no one likes soccer in the US (same with baseball in Europe, for that matter).
No contest Baseball is gonna win in the USA lol
Football/Soccer is easily going to win in Europe lol
In Japan... who knows, that would actually be a close one.
Popcorn should definitely be salty.
As for the US one, they should have made it baseball vs American football or basketball.
Anyway, looks like Pearl has both in the bag this time around.
Baseball !
Stupid selections this time. Only in America do they eat popcorn covered in butter or sugar, as if they weren't getting enough of that already. In Europe popcorn and chips comes salty. A clear winner as football would have been. How about just a Splatfest that is Europe vs America? That would have been fun.
+1 for Baseball
@Aneira Well it's sweet or salty in the UK at least. Not sure about other European countries.
I'm calling it, Salty Popcorn and Baseball will win
Easy choice for me. I’ve always loved baseball! Soccer has seemed to gain a lot of popularity though recently.
I prefer sweet and salted popcorn together. This doesn't work for me!
@Aneira Strange. Everyone i know does not like salty pop corn. Everyone eats it sweet. And we are all Europeans.
Finding salty pop corn in a store is very rare.
Baseball is going to have a tough time. So many kids playing soccer these days and think baseball is boring. But I’m rooting for the home team...baseball FTW!!
baseball no doubt
The last time I looked in the supermarket, sweet popcorn is the most widely available and there's not much on offer for salty popcorn so I'm guessing sweet will win.
Either way I love a good Splatfest.
NA here, and Team Soccer all the way. I'm not much of a sports fan, but baseball is the world's most boring sport. We will, of course, get annihilated in the popular vote, but that's only one third of the score.
It figures that the theme is different in Europe. It can't be fun to have 99% of people choose one side.
#teamsoc... I mean, #teamfootball
As for people predicting baseball to dominate in the Americas... Just keep in mind all of Latin America is part of that region. Sure, the US is bound to have a majority of active players, but still it isn't gonna be nowhere near as lopsided as you think.
SOCCER!!! I love most sports but when I have to choose, I choose soccer. I've been playing the sport for most of my life and I don't understand what people in my country don't understand???? Soccer is dynamic! The game doesn't stop so your team can figure something out or so you can "set up a play". It rewards creativity, skill and intelligence over pure athletic ability.
I love Baseball too, though! When I go to a baseball game, it's to enjoy a completely different experience. I like to go to the ballpark and "chill". I like to have conversations while I watch. I like the strategy.
@Aneira Well I'm American and I don't put sugar and butter on my popcorn, and our chips also come salty typically.
America has the lamest, most uninspired Splatfest themes. I want a refund.
Baseball has always been the most boring sport to me, all you do is watch guys grab at themselves for awhile. Watching golf on TV has more action than watching baseball on TV. Live baseball is still boring, to me it is more about what kind of experience the ballpark can give you than how the game is going.
Watching men's soccer/football is really hard too. They just flop so much it is sad to watch. Women's soccer is so much more fun in my opinion. Can't wait for the world cup. They look like they put so much more effort in the sport instead of acting (like the men).
And yes, my views are very blinded and extreme. I love sports, I took part. I'm just way over critical about them.
I chose soccer.
@ricklongo Ah well, that basically makes it USA vs the rest of Americas
@Sinister Caramel popcorn was available here (Poland) for a while, but I don't see it anymore. Though maybe I'm not looking for it. I tried it once, it was disgusting 🤢
Straight salt or buttered for me.
In my opinion soccer games are too low scoring which makes them boring to watch. I feel like if there was no goalies it would be a lot more entertaining, same goes for hockey.
popcorn-salty.
Baseball vs. soccer/football would've been so perfect for a cross-regional Splatfest. I'm honestly kind of disappointed.
I'm on Team Soccer! I'm not a sports kind of guy, but I actually see the appeal in soccer.
Edit: It's worth mentioning that I despise baseball. And also, team Soccer is going to lose big time. Oh well. 😂
@BensonUii- I agree that football/soccer is boring
@Aneira
not true
@JasmineDragon I agree completely!
@Royalblues
So true!!!!!
Basebaaaaaaaaall
SALT, this is the first time I wont pick Marina :/
Don’t have much interest in either sport.
I know its only a small sample of the NA Splatoon community, but my lobby is always full of inklings in their soccer splatfest shirt. I was surprised that so many people had chosen soccer actually.
Baseball all the way!
I'm getting a switch by friday so I'll participate. Like others have said, I think they should have gone with baseball vs American footbal or basketball. I would have gone with basketball
Scene from the Splatoon team in Japan:
1: "So, what's a good idea for our next North American Splatfest?"
2: "How about baseball vs football? Two American pastimes."
1: "Sound great, let's do it. Have your team set it up."
2: "Okay." (sends it off to team)
Worker on team: "Baseball vs football in North America. Hey, don't they call it soccer over there? I'd better make that change..."
I'm happy that Europe has popcorn, because I couldn't care less about sports
Hey, I know a couple of NL commenters who would be perfect for Team Salty! 😂
@LegendOfPokemon we are on a website literally called Nintendo life. I don’t think many people here have much interest in sports.
@SmaggTheSmug Then American Football would be the most picked and the teams wouldn't be balanced. Going for sports that aren't our countries favorite help balance things out, but I think it should have been baseball vs. basketball because of soccer(football) not being very popular in the US.
Dag nabbit, Ninty, I wanna side with Marina more often. The popcorn one is obviously Pearl's (though I most enjoy cheesy), and in Murrika I'd more readily follow along with baseballing (though I agree basketball would be better than either, and NOA missed out for dunking on Pearl's height!).
I probably have no logical involvement here seeing as I'm not much of a sports guy or a competitive player, but after playing Smash Bros, I think anyone that has the strength of a baseball bat can do more than some soccer ball on fire or whatever. That's just me, though.
...and I just realized how contradictory I sounded when I said I'm not much of a competitive player, but I still play Smash Bros. I should be hitting the sack anyway.
