Pelda Pro Switch Case Aims To Make Your Dock Redundant

Is nobody making a simple stand that dont cost so much? I want another so I can move my switch from place to place, but I WILL NOT PAY the stupid amount of 80 pounds for a piece of plastic with less circuits than my old gba.

A bit pricey but the pro case is definitely interesting. Hope this is successful and gets a full release.

I know they're just mockup images and such, but it is just a little concerning that some of their graphics seems to show a lack of understanding as to how the Switch works (namely, they show the handheld screen being turned on while the system is connected to a TV).

I also have to wonder how exactly that HDMI-out works. My understanding is that the Switch will only enter "docked" mode if it recognizes sufficient power input from the dock: does this mean that the HDMI output from this case will only work while the battery pack has a charge (or while the system is plugged in), so the Switch is detecting power input?

I'll wait until the product is released and reviewed. Battery doesn't really interest me as have yet to have issues with the Switch's battery life.

Ditto on @AlbertXi 's comment, I just want a small portable dock.

All these Kickstarters to solve issues that aren't even issues.

One of the very first things Nintendo will redesign on the new Switch is the kickstand.

That goal seems unreasonable (too low) to get an electronics product into mass production

So, a portable solution to replace that expensive dock that is even more expensive than the original one?

On a serious note, I've seen a lot of these solutions, claiming they can replace the dock and make connecting it to the TV more portable/streamlined, but none of them account for cooling/airflow, so I expect a lot of them to either damage the Switch or the surface it's resting on, since it's probably going to overheat like crazy.

Same goes for this solution here, so I don't see it as a viable option at all.

@AlbertXi What do you mean by stand? Because this is a cover/case. If you want something to keep your switch safe inside of something I would go with the Game Traveler Deluxe Travel Case. If you want something that covers your switch while you play it on the go, go with the hybrid cover. If you want a stand go for the hori compact playstand.

I don't trust a company to make a good product if they can't even install their screen protector properly.

@AlbertXi This one is a dock AND a huge battery that can more than double your playtime. This actually seems like a fairly reasonable price.

@AlbertXi have you looked at the cost of a usb - c to hdmi converter? they aren't 'cheap' . It may have less circuits than a gba but it doesn't mean it doesn't do more complex things.

The real issue is that USB C is still fairy new and there wasn't a lot of already built solutions. So yeah the docks aren't cheap, but honestly looking at comparable generic parts it's not horrible. Alot of USB C chargers with the protection built in to Nintendo's charge cost ~$30 us, and the converters can cost around $30-$40. Add in the Nintendo surcharge er branding and yeah I can see why a new dock costs so much. I would hope that as the technology gets more widely adopted they can come down on pricing.

@tebunker So you are telling me that a Pro Controller with HD rumble NFC reader, giroscope and so on is cheaper to produce than the dock? Come on man, is't a rip OFF

Way too expensive. I wouldn't pay more than 10-20€ for the pro version

@AlbertXi There's already a small dock out there for months which only costs ~20 or even less, depending on your currency.
I posted a thread about it in the forums a while ago and I'm still using it.

LOL near the end it's like "no wat don't use our stupid case just get our 3rd party dock". they show a product that defeats the purpose of what they are selling. XD

@shani THe only 20 pound dock I have seen is one where you are suppose to take out the internals of your dock and put them in there I have not seen any other for that price

I think I'll wait for the Pelda Pro 2 case to go up, along with the secret Adventure of Pink color option.

@AlbertXi Yeah that's the one I mean. It's way better than the original dock housing and it's really easy to do.

The basic one seems like a good idea but the pro version seems pointless. I'll have to mess about with cables to plug it in and connect it to the TV, where as now i just slide it in

I don't think you understand how manufacturering works or costs. Newer tech will always cost more. Thats why a dock using USB C to HDMI and a USB C charger with power protection can cost as much as a Controller that is relying on a lot of older more mature tech with tweaks.

Seriously go look up Power Protected USB C wall chargers on Amazon. Find me a well rated dependable wall charger for less that $25-$30. Then look up good USB-C to HDMI converters. The tech is new and not cheap because of that. Nintendo puts a $30 charger with a $35 convert and marks it up for their name brand. If you wanna argue the dock is about $20 too expensive we can talk, but you are ignorant of the costs to mfg and the costs of the tech.

I would love an additional dock, so traveling with my Switch and using it on multiple TVs would be easier. The replacements all seem a bit sketchy or overpriced, however. The Nyko dock seems like the best bet, since it comes from an actual company and has (from what I recall, anyway) an actual AC adapter included (which would add another $20+ to most other docking solutions).

On the plus side, this one IS on Kickstarter, so I assume they have some actual hardware, unlike the SwitchCharge. I hope both turn out well for those backing these projects, but I won't be surprised if they don't.

This is sad and shows lack of design from Nintendo's part.

Just waiting on my SFANS dock to be sent this month. Much smaller and efficient than this thing and probably cheaper aswell. It's pretty cool that they were able to put the cartridge slot on the side if that's actually possible.

I always take my dock with me when I travel.
It's not like it takes much space.

Someone needs to make a practical version of the dock at a cheaper pricepoint, these KS hardware projects look alright but seem to have clunky/heavy design along with a pricepoint only $10 cheaper than an official NS dock.

Nice fake video of Mario Kart. They claim it acts just like the official dock but the video clearly shows Mario Kart on the Switch and the TV at the same time.
Might want to do some research before copy pasting a KS next time.

Usb C to HDMI can be found for as little as 20 pounds and that is considering the manufacturer is already making a profit plus the profit the store is making plus the 20% VAT included.

So Don't try to justify the price of the Nintendo Dock, because there is no way to justify 80 pounds for it.

I am not going to start telling you what I do for a living because anyone can write here whatever they want and I have no way to prove it, but I know more about tech that you have known in your lifetime, I am quite sure you were not even born by the time I was already programming in basic.

So to have that kind of behaviour denotes clearly a person who is young and thinks he knows better.

The right price for the dock will be around the 49£ mark, by the way, if you think Switch is not mass production then tell me what it is, so the price is FAR for what you even suggest.

@shani The Problem is I want a second Dock not a better one, since I have a projector on a movie room set in my house and to play with friends there is perfect is a 120" so playing Mario Kart basically we all get a 60" screen hehehe but having to move dock and everything is a pain in the ass.

Also don't put words in my mouth. You said that the switch dock shouldn't cost as much because it didn't have as much circuitry as a gba, as if that had any implications on actual costs. I merely pointed out reasons why it could be so expensive and even agreed that it was. You also support my claims when you convert pounds to USD, £45 is about $60, hmmm I recall typing that the Switch dock is about $20-$25 usd overpriced because you pay for Nintendo's name brand bs.

Please, I repeat what I said, you can get a good converter for about 20 pounds including the manufacturer earn and vendors earn and vat 80 pound is not 20-25 dollars overpriced, 80 pound is 102 Dollars, the dock cost 90 in the US.
