I played the first level of this (which was the one I played at PAX) and the Village hub so far, and man! It's really, really good! Like, every bit of it screams quality, and though I only played it for 30 minutes so far, it had me laughing multiple times. (Though mainly because they have an NPC who speaks only in puns).
My first impressions are all positive, can't wait to play more.

Edit: Downloaded... Why is B confirm and A back? I hate when games do this on Wii U. This isn't even on Xbox or Playstation so why aren't the controls mapped to make sense for Wii U? (Not sure if the 3DS has the same problems)

How do you change the menu controls? I like the jumping and attacking controls, just the menu controls drive me crazy
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I found that if you change the jump/attack buttons, they change the menu ones as a result too. Oh right, just for info, my version is a 3DS one and to change it explore the options menu
I've mostly thought that the current "retro" trend was mainly an approach to save development costs in the HD world, but the info in that blog clearly shows that the developers of Shovel Knight took no shortcuts to reach their design goal.
I'm a bit confused about the IGN review, btw. It' says that it's reviewd for PC, 3DS and Wii U. Yet, only PC currently has the review on MetaCritic, and no mentioning of the consol-specific features, such as StreetPass and Miiverse, in the review.
@DefHalan Perhaps it was that way on the NES days?
WHERE ARE THE REVIEWS?? I need to make an informed decision here and no one is helping me lol. I assume all the reviews will hit in the next 4 hours here in NA. I heard some say there won't be specific features released till this morning so some reviews are holding out for those.

Nope, they use Y for cancel or back which wouldn't work in the NES days as the NES didn't have a Y Button. Most games in the NES days used Start and Select as Confirm and Cancel. Using B as Confirm and Y as Cancel doesn't make any sense. It drives me crazy when using in game menus as well, to buy things and such. I really hope they patch that as it is a really bad design choice in my opinion

Wow, this game is actually pretty good. I was expecting an over hype... also, some reviewer complained about bad controls. They were wrong.
