Um, plenty of entertainment options are targeted towards kids and still appeal to adults. After all, a lot of us (myself included) were between 6 and 12 when the original 2D Sonic games came out, and we still find them fun today. Also, the more recent 3D games have been focusing more on speed, whereas the original games combined speed with areas of slower precision platforming, so this may actually be good news.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

OK, not really. But the game apparently isn't targeted at core gamers. In a recent interview with Takashi Iizuka of SEGA:
GAME: One of the main criticisms of Sonic is often that it's so fast, sometimes people don't fully feel in control. How do you address that, given that Sonic is a series based around speed?

TI: We know there are sometimes opinions about control from core gamers, but we're intending Sonic Colours to be played by children of probably between six and twelve years-old.

So, with Sonic Colours we have aimed more to make a game that everyone can control and have fun in. So, it's not really a game for the core gamers. If you take the rail grind, it's something that's fast, not difficult but is fun to do and looks great. It's about making a game that's right for the core audience of the game.

More, including a statement about Sonic 4 being for the core instead, and a hint about a special surprise in 2011:

I believe the point is that the game, regardless of its difficulty, must be credible enough to help Sonic back on his feet. Is the game really good and done right? Sonic has gained such a bad reputation for getting into sucky games over the years that it just isn't funny anymore.

If it's aimed at 6-12 year olds, that's perfect. Just like the old days. None of that emo Shadow-with-a-pistol garbage.

Let's just hope they don't think 6-12 year olds are stupid.

So not only will it suck, but it's going to be dumbed down crap. Superb.

Just because it's intended for younger players doesn't mean it's going to suck or be "dumbed down crap"

I should probably explain the second half of my previous comment better. The recent 3D games focus a little too much on speed. If this means Colors is going to slow down a little and have some more platforming like with the old games, this is good news.

The easier difficulty does concern me a little, as the 3D Sonic games are already kind of easy to complete (although getting bonuses like emblems are hard) compared to a lot of other franchises. I actually really like the Sonic games at that level of difficulty (as I have below average gaming skill), but making Colors even easier than that could disappoint even me. After all, Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 are still two of the hardest Sonic games to beat (without cheating), and the kids didn't/don't complain about the difficulty of those games, do they?

The problem isn't that the game is for kids, it's that they specifically said it's not for core gamers. That's dumb, very dumb.

I don't know whether it's because he looks down on Nintendo platforms(and is making a snide comment) or whether he's just trying to boost Sonic 4 sales but he shouldn't be telling people not to buy his game.

Is a game for Babies bad?? No it isn't, just look games with really kildish graphics like the legendary starfy and litle kings story, both are really awesome games, I got both, I love both, NL give a 9 to both games and IGN give also a really high score in their reviews, as they said that the game will be for kids from 6-12 years old, maybe they refer that the difficulty will be easy.

You might see some cool aspects of the game too:

  • it have really beatyfull graphics
  • as it have a easy difficulty, player of all ages and all grades of gaming experience
  • it is a new sonic, and maybe these well be the sequel all sonic fan are waiting for

This. ^^^

Why can't we have a core Sonic anyways? Increase the speed, and make it more harder, especially since most people will be around 12-14 who will probably want to buy it anyways... ah well, I know not to go near this rubbish (not that I ever did )... poor Sonic is getting ruined by his maker...

I can't help but laugh at people complaining about it being "aimed" at 6-12 year olds.
Remember the last two times they specifically tried to aim at older age groups, or the "core" fans?

Shocker: Almost all the sonic games are aimed at younger kids. That doesn't mean older people can't play and enjoy them.
