Topic: With the Wii U's failure, should Iwata resign?

Many have been saying Iwata should be fired after the Wii U's failure. Now I don't hate Iwata, even with the recent failings of the Wii U, it's easy to forget that he's done a lot of good for the company. The Wii and DS were only last generation, and they single handedly made Nintendo mainstream again. However such has not been the case with the Wii U and 3DS. While the 3DS has been a modest success, the Wii U continues to struggle, and it feels like Nintendo is ready to jump ship on it. Not only that, Wii U's failure costed Nintendo Billions of of dollars. If the NX doesn't get the company back up, I think it may be time for him to go.

Iwata will never resign. He will continue to work for Nintendo till the Super Mario franchise is milked dry.

I think at this point, Nintendo needs a huge redesign.

Now this extra part is just for fun because all the doomsday talk has got me thinking. If Nintendo ever did go down the drain, I think I would want Sony to handle their IPs. I don't why I think Sony would do a much better job at handling them, and they match Sony better than MS in my opinion.

@Aromaiden: Sony? Better of with Sqaure Enix or Atlus. At least they'll don't make constant remasters like Sony.

@Aromaiden: bizarre. what makes you think sony can do anything good with games? what original content has sony ever created? can you name one AAA title sony created out of nothing? thought not.

I don't think Iwata should resign over the Wii U. But if the NX tanks? Yeah, a change in management would definitely be a good idea.

you kids that are under the false assumption that sony are like super duper rich and 100x bigger than nintendo - where do you get this from? is it just the western media brainwashing you? are you even aware that sony are struggling as a company in general? you know playstation is all they got now, right? they're clinging to the shit like nothing else because they're failing in all other markets. don't fall for the hype. i just don't get why so many kids have this massive doomsday attitude.

@martinskrtel37: I'm not saying it would happen, rather just a fun thought. Although in their own right, Sony is a great Gaming Company and has created amazing IPs over the years. They've had amazing games, including some of my personal favorites such as Shadow of the Colossus or even the Sly Cooper franchise.

Plus if Sony were to buy Nintendo's IPs, they'd only have the resources to work on a few of them. Which means we'd probably see only a handful of Nintendo games, probably Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, maybe Metroid. Everything else would be dead.

sony are poopitypoop. they aren't a gaming company. ICO is a good shout but that dude isn't sony, he was bought out by sony, he worked with sega before that. sony just bought into the gaming industry. they're nothing to support. they don't care about you or what's good for gamers.

Since I'm quite sure it was not his fault alone for the Wii U's design and management I'm going to say NO.

@martinskrtel37: In reality though, companies really don't specifically care about their fans or audience. They will serve and provide for them, but only because they expect to be paid back (it's basically like they're working for you, as in the consumer). I will say, Nintendo does place a greater deal of significance of what they view as gaming than most other companies, which is probably due to their attitude and history. Although I find that outlook on gaming to be one of the reasons Nintendo struggles in our current time.

@Bolt_Strike: Yeah. I thought something like that would happen, considering how many IPs Nintendo has.

Two questions: who would replace him, and how are we sure they would be any better?
Not defending Iwata, but these are the questions no one really thinks of when asking people to step down.

@ZeroZX-Dev: Reggie would be a excellent replacement for Iwata. Or Tetsuya Nomura.
