Hi all, I apologize if this has been asked and answered already, I tried a search and couldn't find anything.

I've been getting some info about the new Wii Fit U and it looks pretty cool. Here's my question. . . I currently don't own any type of Wii or accessories whatsoever. Nada, zilch. So what all would I need to purchase for Wii Fit U? I'm confused about all the different pieces. Wii U console, balance board, fit meter, remotes, game pad, Wii Fit U pack (?) ?

I understand that Wii U is higher in price than regular Wii. Would I be better off trying out the regular Wii Fit or is the U that much cooler?

You'd have to buy a Wii U, a Wii Balance board, and the game (I think it comes with a pedometer). It'll be a pretty expensive investment.

So you'll need this: http://www.amazon.com/Wii-Balance-Board-accessory-Meter-U/dp/...

And a Wii U console of your choosing (either the Zelda bundle, Skylanders bundle, Mario Bundle, etc. Just pick the one that fits your tastes).

It'll cost around $400.

I'm going to level with you: if you want to get in shape in the comfort of your home, do P90X or Insanity. Wii Fit just doesn't work that well as a fitness tool. It's somewhat fun, but it lacks the kind of intensity that you would need to get a really good workout, and thus loose the weight. It also helps that those options are way cheaper too.

If you're just looking to maintain weight, you could do worse. I personally don't like Wii Fit that much, but I know those who do, and they definitely maintain weight with this. But if you want to loose the weight while keeping up your current diet, this won't do much.

I should also mention that I'm currently doing Insanity: The Asylum right now, so I'm kind of one of those "self-torture" enthusiasts. Make of that what you will.

Thanks, that's the exact info I wanted! Yeah, pretty big investment. I think something "fun" will get me going, but when I get more in shape I want something I'll be able to ramp up. Totally not at Insanity level at this point, even watching the infomercials make me want to cry Thanks for the info!

Just out of curiosity, how out of shape are we talking about? Because I was tremendously overweight when I started Insanity (240 pounds at 5 ft. 8 in.) and now I'm at 165 pounds. I hated it for the two months it lasted, but by then I actually just integrated it into my daily schedule because I grew to like what it did for me. A year later, and now I'm doing The Asylum. Granted, I'm 18, so my body could handle the intensity, even as out of shape as I was.

You'd be surprised at how tenacious your body can be if you force it. Just some encouragement.

Wow, good job! Those are amazing results. I've got about 70 pounds to lose and some years on you, I'm in my 30's. I'm kicking butt on the nutrition front but just hate, hate, hate to exercise. Excuses, I know. I love the feeling afterward but it's such a chore to get myself to do it. I'm just trying to think of something that will be kind of fun so I can "trick" myself into just moving. Not willing to spend $400 though, that's for sure!

Have to disagree with the idea that Wii Fit U isn't going to help you get in shape. It really comes down to how much time and effort you're willing to put into it. No, it's not going to produce the same results in the same span of time as a bunch of exercise machines or swimming laps, but there are some new aerobic routines that can be quite taxing and yoga and muscle exercises do provide workout for muscles. For people who wouldn't otherwise do anything I think it's a great combination of real exercises and energetic games.

Yeah I agree its a very fun exercise and there are plenty of reports of people losing tremendous amount of weight with Wii Fit. I suggest you buy the Wii U console and then purchase the Wii Fit U bundle thats coming out and includes the board, game and meter. Wii U is superior to Wii and so is the game.

If you decide to get Wi Fit U Best Buy has the board, game, Fit meter bundle for $65 this week rather than $90. There are some dance xercises that might rquire a Wiimote also - I really can't recall i fyu need Wimote Plus. A rock wall climb rquires 2 Wimotes at once.
